Finishing up installation of our new Pindo Palm
    Genie J.

We recently had a Bottle Tree dry up in the backyard and had to cut it down, which left a very open empty space behind our pool. Sun Valley Nursery is a hop skip from our house, so we stopped by after brunch a couple of Saturdays ago. Very pleasantly surprised at the huge selection of plants, flowers, all kinds of vegetation, large trees, palm trees...pretty much anything you could want in a pot or in the ground. I had a certain kind of palm tree in mind, but learned that it would grow to be too large for this space, which is when we found our Pindo Palm! I had never heard of this palm before, but it was unique and different from the numerous Mediterranean palms we already have. They scheduled installation about 2 weeks out, had it installed VERY fast, and provided excellent watering and care guidance along the way. We're 10 days out from our planting date, and it still looks beautiful! They even offered to receive pictures with any questions I might have to continue providing guidance and help if needed. Great service! Plus, it's just fun to walk through their location and be amongst all the trees and plants, watching the birds and bees do their job.

What started out as Christmas tree shopping…read morewhen our boys were little has now turned into a yearly tradition that we hope one day they will continue with their own families. Not only do we go to them during the holidays but rely on them throughout the year when we need additional plants and trees for our backyard. We first started using Whitfill back in the early 2000's when they were on 40th street south of Roeser. We literally lived across the street from their nursery and when they moved to their current spot on Southern we followed! We have decades of photos with our boys standing next to the tree they choose for Christmas and the tradition continues now with our Sphynx cats! They used to have a peacock walking around but unfortunately he is no longer there. They are pet friendly and we are comfortable taking our cats there in the stroller. Not only are their prices and tree selections the best in town but their customer service and knowledge of anything tree related is vast! They know what they are doing and don't try to upsell or get you to buy unnecessary items. They are the real deal!

I shouldn't need to walk all the way back up front to ask -- and I've been giving the wrong information before anyhow. Its important to know what kind of plant you're buying for multiple reasons. The other Whitfill location (off Guadalupe and Cooper) doesn't have this issue. Overall I think the plants are pretty healthy but after having an issue with lack of labeling (on both the kind of plant and pricing), having been given the wrong plant info on a plant, and after having asked if they had Pink Fairy Duster and being sent off in a direction to wander and never find it on my own, I'm really over this location.

All the managers/employees, especially Manager Jason, are awesome there. Unfortunately they were out of the Midea portable floor AC unit I needed and had to go to the N Hayden location. I had purchased this unit from the Bell Rd Home Depot location on May 29th, 2026, and unfortunately it already died. I filed a claim with Midea, and provided them with all necessary documentation. After several days of review, they sent me a "Return Goods Authorization" (RGA) for a direct exchange at Home Depot. I originally went to the Bell Rd Home Depot, but they were sold out of the unit. They were very nice and called the Hayden location, who had the item in stock, and had them set it aside. I drove 25 minutes to the Hayden location and went to customer service with my form and unit. They had the new unit waiting. The customer service employee had never seen the form. I asked her to call a manager, as a manager should be familiar with this form and process. It took her about 20 minutes to locate the manager via phone. When she finally located the manager, Travis, she explained the situation to him. Travis never came to the Customer Service area in person, and on the phone, he just said that he would not exchange it. I told her he is wrong, I have all the documentation and he should at least come look at it because this is pre-approved through Midea and Home Depot. Travis refused to present himself in person, and they sent me packing, refusing to exchange. I hauled my merchandise back out to the parking lot and into my vehicle, and called the Home Depot customer service line. I explained the situation and the customer service representative was awesome and apologized regarding Travis. She asked for the case # and RGA# on my form and placed me on hold. She came back a short time later, apologized, and said go back in the store, that she spoke with Mr Travis, and they would exchange it like they were supposed to. She said I would probably see Travis back at customer service when I went back in. So I went back in, of course no Travis to be found, and they did exchange the unit like they should have. The employees were not overly friendly, but I understand they were following Travis' direction. Travis is a HORRIBLE representative for Home Depot and he represents the worst in customer service and not what Home Depot is known for. My guess would be this isn't their first issue with him. If you do have to shop this store, just hope you don't have to deal with Travis. Travis, at the minimum, you could've done your job. For me, I'll avoid the Hayden location and continue to shop the Tatum/Bell store as they represent everything great that Home Depot is known for!!!
