I was a patient of Dr. Borden for 14 years. 2008 until January 2022. 14 years. I've had at least 13 atypical moles removed during that time and regular visits/ skin checks. In December 2021 I was contacted by office staff that there was a problem with an insurance claim and that I owed a balance of about $120. Shortly after that news, I had a serious medical emergency with one of my kids. Yes, I forgot about this bill, that's on me. The bill went to collections and I paid the bill in full the beginning of February. I just tried scheduling my annual skin check and was informed that I was "dismissed" from the practice as a result of the collections action. 14 years with them. And they booted me over $120 because it was a little late. They clearly don't care about their patients. They care about their $$$$. read more

I've never experienced such bad medical gaslighting than at Sun Valley Skin! Super unaffordable prices for terrible medical treatment. It's so frustrating when a doctor's offices literally do not care about your health and only want to sell you product, or get you in and out as quick as possible. This office has been around for much too long, is outdated and frankly doesn't care about their patients. It's astounding the difference in treatment I received at Meridian medical aesthetics, and Idahormones. Once you experience better service and more caring medical treatment, you will never come back to Sun Valley skin. Meridian Medical Aesthetics and Idahormones gave much more caring service. I've experienced hair loss, weight loss, dry, itchy scalp, back acne, facial acne, and suspicious moles, which was ALL disregarded by Sun Valley Skin Center to be normal or "not that bad" while Idahormones ordered me a blood test to test my vitamin levels, my thyroid, my testosterone and hormones. They promptly eased all my anxiety surrounding my health by presenting a plan to figure out if anything was wrong. If all my results presented as normal, they discussed several options for hair growth to get results in as little as a month. Plus their Botox was much cheaper. read more

I had an incredibly poor experience with Dr. Borton years ago. I had not planned on leaving her a review, thinking she may have been having a bad day. However, after reading reviews from many other patients who had similar experiences I have changed my mind. I was told by Dr. Borton that I could recieve a test injection on a few veins in my leg to see how they react to treatment for a smaller amount of money. She then charged me full price for a full procedure. When nicely questioned about this, she became incredibly nasty, berating me loudly in front of other patients and saying she would refuse to see me again. This woman is very unprofessional and money oriented, and, if questioned, resorts to bullying, as evidenced by many patients who had similar experiences with her. Was really hoping that the negative reviews were isolated situations of bad experiences at Sun Valley Skin Center. I went in to see Dr. Borton for a new, minor skin issue that cropped up a few months ago, along with just a general skin/mole check. Dr. Borton wasn't overly friendly at my initial appt., but I listened to her advice and was receptive to the treatment she outlined. I did end up spending more than I had anticipated on a few products that Dr. Borton recommended, and was prescribed an antibiotic for some redness. I cut out the products Dr. Borton told me to stop using from the rest of my routine, and have been using the antibiotic lotion, which has been (very) slowly been helping with the redness. It's not all the way better, but I've been feeling better about how it looks (being the one that has to look in the mirror everyday, that's probably what's most important). I went in for a follow-up appt. today. Dr. Borton spoke to me for about 3 minutes and was so rude and condescending about something that I thought was improving! She basically told me that it was my fault that my skin still looked so terrible and I obviously wasn't trying hard enough. I left in tears and cancelled my next appointment. I won't ever be going back to a doctor that treats patients with such disdain and such a lack of empathy. read more

My son and I went to see Dr Borton today at Sun Valley Skin and we are thrilled to find her. We drove 2 hours to see her and I'm so happy a friend referred her to us. She took her time with my son and actually looked at his skin and talked with us about options for his acne. I was anxious about some treatments and she was very kind and gentle with all my questions. I think she also has a great sense of humor which is a plus! Her staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. Katie and Alex were both so great with us. We had a great experience there. I went in for an evaluation of my skin, as I have had much sun exposure over my lifetime. Dr. Borton noticed a spot on my ear lobe that looked suspicious. I've had that spot my entire life, had other dermatologists inspect it and say it was nothing and told her so. She insisted that it should be removed and I let her do it. Without my prior consent, she sent the tissue to a lab at the University of San Francisco. The cost for diagnosis of the tissue was over $600. It could have been done cheaper locally. Btw, there was nothing wrong with it just as the prior dermatologists has said! I agree with previous reviewers, this office is out to get your money and is very unprofessional. read more

Dr. Borton is a miserable, abrasive person. After seeing her for more than three months for basic stuff, she kept trying to upsell me to laser procedures. After I caved and did 2, I asked to be refunded for the remaining treatments. At the next appointment, she came in and didn't say hello. She didn't even look me in the eye. She scolded me like a small child. She scribbled a prescription and left without a goodbye. When I pass her in the hallway on my way out, I tried again....a simple, "Thanks! Bye." And she blew me off. NEVER GO TO SUN VALLEY SKIN CENTER! I pity the poor folks that have to work for her. In the end, she spinelessly had her assistant call me and tell me that because I had let the assistant know that I thought she was a bit rude that she didn't want me as a patient anymore. She's a freaking monster and although she might know skin and surfaces of the body, she certainly isn't deep and possibly doesn't have a soul. read more

I've been going to Dr. Borton for about two years for my rosacea and acne. I think the staff are absolutely fabulous. Dr. Borton can be very blunt, so if you can't deal with that, it might not be the right place for you. I find her to be great, but she does "call them as she seems them". I think that's why some of the reviews have been harsh. For me, because she is so blunt, you can be very straightforward and honest with her and that really works for me. They definitely promote products for skin care and makeup, but everything they sell has helped me a lot. I finally figured out I can buy the stuff on amazon for cheaper, so that's what I do now. Alex is the office manager and he is very knowledgable and I think he's great. read more

I got an email this morning reminding me that I'm due for a follow up, which is laughable because this place is an absolute joke. How is this woman still a medical doctor? I don't care where you went to school, you don't deserve the designation. The key to good skincare according to this office is to spend lots of money on whatever product they offer at their office. I asked for a prescription, which was an option. They said they would send it to the pharmacy, they never did. I called them to follow up, they still never called my prescription in. Funny that I received an invitation today from the practice to review them on Yelp. They kicked me out of their practice last year after 1 visit because I called and emailed to report some customer service issues that I thought they should be aware of. Instead of being interested in my poor experience with the practice, the doctor sent me a letter notifying me that she was terminating me as a patient. Firstly, I thought I was treated like I was on a conveyor belt and given a standard "we do this for everybody" sequence of products. The doctor herself was professional and her exam was straightforward and informative and I had no problem with her. AFter she left, and left the nurse to explain the new regimen and products, I tried to tell the nurse I have very sensitive skin and I had trouble with Retin A products in the past and I was concerned that she was recommending a strong Retin A product with just a few days at a lower dose to get used to it. No, the answer was, "this is what everyone does. It will be fine." Okay, you are the professional, and I came in with my problem so I will try what you say. Next, the esthetician put some foundation makeup on my face and I thought the color was too orange. I spoke up, but was told, "no, almost everybody uses this color. It is the most popular color and works for almost everyone. The doctor herself uses this color. You'll love it." Well, after I got in my car and drove 3 blocks, I turned around to have them take it off and try something else. It was far too orange for my fair skin and once I was in the sunshine, the line on my jaw was even more apparent. The esthetician did not seem competent. AFter 1 or 2 days of using the skin care products, my perioral dermatitis flared up. I had reported on my paperwork and mentioned to the nurse that I have perioral dermatitis but it was not active at the moment. It takes months to resolve and only calms down after several months of antibiotics. I called to report this result, and was told by the office manager that some people have very sensitive skin and cannot use the stronger Retin A product and perhaps can't even use the low-dose product more than every other day. I was also told to go off everything immediately, then introduct each new item one at a time, giving myself at least 2 weeks before adding a new item. Apparently, I have very sensitive skin. Well, I told them this. Why wasn't I given this information initially and given a slow introduction to the new products? When I wrote an email to the doctor complaining that the staff did not listen to my legitimate concerns, nor take my particular skin into account when giving me skin care products, and I was very unhappy to be dealing with the perioral dermatitis as a result of an expensive visit to a dermatologist, I was terminated from the practice. I thought that was shameful. Obviously I am someone who is in need of the services of a skilled dermatologist. All I was looking for was for the practice to make note of my complaint, apologize, and use it as information to improve their service. I used to own a small business; I thought the doctor might appreciate knowing my experience, especially since their practice was new to Boise at the time. Despite being kicked out of the practice, I did follow the recommended slow introduction and use the products that they started me on. It has been a year and it took 9 months before I could use entire regimen, including the Retin A product at the low dose without irritation. I do like the products they use but I buy them online so this office doesn't get any profit from my purchases. read more

I must say this new office blew me away. It is clean lines, amazing colors and is so classy. And yes I am talking about a visit to my dermatologist. Familiar faces greeted me and the new waiting room was so inviting although one thing about this office they do not keep you waiting (another reason that keeps me coming back) Great new rooms too. I had several visits that were unsatisfactory. I had a facial scheduled and then they would not proceed since I had used a product prior that they said would affect the outcome. I was never educated on this prior to my appointment but they said they sent a email. It was a confirmation of my appt. but not education about what to do or not to do prior to my appt. Another time,I had difficulty with them calling in a prescription to the drug store and the gentleman who works there was rude regarding this matter. He said he did not know what to say?????? Dr. Borton then would not see me after she said I could start some antibiotics if the situation got worse, since I was not pleased about taking antibiotics and had taken them prior for the same situation.She stated later that she said I was to take them immediately. She was unprofessional and acted rather abruptly. I ended up having to go to another dermatologist to finally have the matter resolved. I wrote a negative review about my last appointment and went in today for a follow up with Dr. Borton. She ripped me apart. She told me she read my review and doesn't need me as a patient. She told me she is transferring my records and not going to see me anymore. She is ridiculous. Most doctors would try to fix the problem and she just say, see ya! We chose this "dr" for my teenage daughter who was suffering from cystic acne...what a mistake! Seriously the most unprofessional medical environment I've ever been exposed to (& I work at a hospital). The entire staff didn't know what they were talking about, especially in regards to Accutane. The "dr" kept deferring questions to her "nurse" who had us so confused and frustrated I didn't know what to think. All the while my poor teenager is suffering. During my last frustrated phone call the nurse announced that they didn't want us as clients anymore, a point which was moot by that time since I would have never taken my daughter back into those horrible people's care. In the end we went to another Dr. across town who indicated they had many old clients of dr Borton's and knew of her troubled history. The new Dr & staff knew exactly what they were doing, and were horrified to hear some of the lies/mis-statements that dr Borton's office had told us. Fast forward, my daughter got the treatment she needed, was treated like a valued patient/customer. It is clear to me that this office is geared toward making money off the cosmetic procedures they push so heavily. I sincerely hope none of these so-called "health professionals" ever try to find employment elsewhere because no legitimate Dr's office would allow their staff to so unprofessional and ignorant as Borton's staff. Please believe the other negative reviews for the Sun Valley Skin Center!! They are all true!!! The office is incredibly rude and unprofessional and the office policies are not at all fair or in the favor of the consumer. If you decide to go to this office even after reading the horrible reviews, I urge you to do just one thing......GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING AND MAKE SURE IT IS VERY CLEAR WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR!! Long story short, I had made an appointment to have a Levulan with IPL procedure to help to with my recurring Acitinic Keratosis (pre-cancer areas). This procedure requires you to remain in very low light situations for a couple of days after the procedure. Because of this requirement, my husband managed to take a couple of days off of work and we both went through great pains to rearrange our schedules while making special arrangements to get our children to their different after school activities. At 7pm the evening prior to my appointment, the Sun Valley Skin Care office called me to tell me that the Levulan (chemical) company was having a shortage and they didn't have the product to carry out my procedure the next morning. I asked if they could possibly get it from another office in town or make other arrangements to get the chemical. They insisted that nobody in town had it because "the Levulan company was having a shortage". This was a huge inconvenience and really didn't seem to add up. Wouldn't they have known this sooner? It was 7pm the night before my early morning appointment the next day! I felt compelled to call the Levulan company and did so the next day. I was right to be suspicious, there was no shortage of the chemical at all!! The company then informed me that the reason the Sun Valley Skin Care Center didn't have the Levulan was because their account was delinquent!!!! Sun Valley Skin Center completely LIED TO ME!!! Having found this curious news, I called back the Sun Valley Skin Care Center and shared my findings with them. There was NO apology and NO offer to rectify the situation. I then told them that I would finish out my 3 IPL sessions (without Levulan) that I had already paid for and then would NOT return to their office for further business because I was not able to trust the doctor. I got a call back moments later and they had terminated me as a patient!!! You are probably wondering if there are two sides to this story, no! There isn't! I simply caught them in a lie and they terminated me!! I asked for a refund of the money I had already paid for the IPL sessions I had not received and they would only give me a refund for 2 of the 3 sessions I had paid for. I had originally bought a package of 5 IPL's and already used 2. This left me with 3 to be refunded. But here is what they did, they refunded me for 2 and pulled a fast one saying that the deal was if you pay for 4 you get one free. I had all my paperwork and receipts which stated I had paid for 5 IPLs, no mention of any "buy 4 get one free" deal. I should have taken them to court at the time, but decided to take it as a loss and move on. To make matters worse, when I asked for a copy of my records they were INCREDIBLY RUDE and told me I would need to wait for at least 2 weeks until they had time. It seems that if you question this office or catch them in a lie they will aggresively terminate you as a patient with no apology and no interest in rectifying the situation. When I reread this it doesn't sound nearly as bad as my experience really was! It is a miracle that this office is still in business. Mine was not a pleasant exerience, though I wanted it to be. I like the location and services they offer. Unfortunately the atmoshere was unwelcoming and cold from the start, I felt like I wasn't supposed to be there. The staff didn't say hello or give any recognition, they talked over me as if I wasn't sitting 2 feet from them. In the treatment room I asked why it was required to have my blood pressure checked for a microderm abrasion (they require another person to come take your blood pressure after treatments), and they got downright rude and unfriendly. To top it off, the tech asked me twice if I had a history of cold sores. Uhhh, no, definately never. We'd already reviewed that question together on the questionaire... that made 3 times I was asked about cold sores, the last time was when I was getting ready to leave, long after the procedure. How weird! Very uncomfortable. I was anxious to get on my way and will not go back. read more

I feel Dr. Borton is a bully who made accusations towards me and made me feel horrible about myself. All I wanted was for someone to call me back regarding treatment options and when no one responded after weeks, I called to get some answers. Apparently, that is not what patients are supposed to do because it makes them unthankful. I was always very thankful for her time and treatments but if she didn't have anymore answers just be honest and stop making it seem like it was a bad thing that I was trying to find them. Communication is so important in running an office and a lack of it is what this practice suffers from. I'm not a big fan of reading or posting negative reviews because I feel like reviews should be edifying and to educate other consumers and most reviews are more negative then educating however, I felt the experience I had was worth sharing as to help others struggling with a skin condition and trying to find a dermatologist. Like I said I'm not a huge fan of reviews and to be honest this is the first one I have ever written but I hope it helps even just one person. I visited Dr Bortons office struggling to find some relief from the Rosacea I had developed postpartum with my second child. It has been an emotional past couple months as it is after having a baby and then top it off with a skin issue and your confidence is blown. I saw the negative reviews online but because I serve Jesus and he gives second chances I thought I could give their office the benefit of the doubt. The office was incredibly beautiful. I was super impressed by the modern and swanky office. Most derm offices feel like a hospital and this looked like a day spa. However I immediately noticed that what may be beautiful on the outside isn't always on the inside. The two admin employees upfront were nice but not welcoming and the technician that assisted Dr. Borton was very distant. I still however over looked this knowing people have bad days and actually hoping I could bring some life into the office. When Dr. Borton entered the office she was very knowledgeable and straight forward but not compassionate. She gave me great advice on a skin care routine and makeup line Colorscience. I ended up purchasing the products she recommended and left excited especially since she told me she had Rosacea I thought if she could use these products maybe I could too! I had been looking for makeup and skin care for 11weeks and was excited to feel beautiful again. The next morning I applied the makeup and went out for the day with my kids excited to get dressed up and happy the makeup didn't burn my face. I had no issues all day but when I removed the makeup that evening I was in for a big surprise. That last 11weeks not only had I been having rosacea on the face but also ocular rosacea with swollen eye lids, eye bumps and eye lash loss. It had taken me 11 weeks to get my eyes on track and when I removed the eye makeup I had several hard bumps on the ehe lids. That following morning more bumps and swollen lids again. I was so bummed. I researched the products and found they contain several fragrant oils and ingredients not safe for sensitive skin! This is what was reccommended for my sensitive rosacea skin? I called the office and told them I had a reaction. The woman's said she had never heard of that and scheduled me to meet with the rep of the line the following week and also said they would honor a refund. She was not rude on the phone but not polite either and seemed confident it was not the makeup. I felt I irritated her. I scheduled the appointment and hung up. I decided after speaking to her why would I keep something I could not wear and decided to return the makeup which I did the next day. The staff wasn't happy about it but they gave me a refund. I let them know I wanted to keep the appointment with the makeup rep and ask some questions. The following Monday I received a call from the office stating that Dr. Borton wants me to get another opinion and felt she spent a lot of time with me and didn't know where else to go with me since I returned the products and they could no longer sell me anything anymore. They canceled my appointment and dismissed me as a patient. I was shocked but happy because I felt the Lord intervened and this is not the place for me. As I need a derm that is compassionate about helping patients and not just selling products. I feel sorry for this office because they focus too much out the world and outward appearance and miss the joy of helping and serving people. How sad for them but the Lord lead me to an amazing dermatologist and office. If you're searching for an incredible office with warm and inviting people that truly care about your health and well being go to Keller Skin Care in Meridian. Awesome awesome derms and office staff. I am happy I get to write a review. I thought I was going to a Dermatologist. She wasn't overly rated to me, but I took advantage of one of the services she advertised and because I found another person for 1/3 the price for the IPL's she recommended and I mentioned to the individual doing my face, I got a letter the next day telling me she no longer wanted me as a patient. She is not a Dermatologist, she is Cosmetics; very pricey cosmetics. She was very snobbish and probably recognized I did not have MONEY. She knew I had cancer on my hand, but it took four months for her to get back to me for a surgical date and by then, I had gone back to my other Dermatologist and had it removed. There is no comfort in her Center; you are just one more cattle going through. But the most important individuals in our life are through the hard knocks of some individual that treated us like we were the low life. I should have know when she practiced in Sun Valley. I have to agree with the several negative ratings. I will never go back to this facility. Mainly because of the staff (front desk more specifically). Just calling to schedule my appointment alone was such a negative experience, I felt as if I was an inconvenience. Once I was arrived for my appointment it was indeed just another random person who appeared to interrupt their day. I was a bit surprised by this because I don't think I have been into an office like this in Boise and had such a poor customer service experience. There are MUCH better options in town, please look for another place. You deserve a better experience for the price you pay read more

I wish I had checked yelp before going to Dr. Borton! She is arrogant, confrontational and has terrible patient-doctor service. I am also new to Boise and was looking for a dermatologist to help me with skin irritation (allergies) around my eyes. I appreciated Dr. Borton's straight-forward attitude and no-nonsense approach so much after my first visit that I actually recommended her to a friend of mine (I took back the recommendation!). During my first visit I also expressed concern over general skin care, but she said we would have to wait for my eyes to clear up before addressing other questions. In the meantime she gave me samples of her product to try. My skin cleared up over the next month. I waited an additional month just to be sure the steroids I had been taking for the reaction were completely out of my system, as recommended by Dr. Borton. So, after all was clear, I returned for a second appointment with questions about general skin care and product. Dr. Borton somehow misunderstood my request for a second appointment, thinking I was upset or unhappy with her general recommendations for skin product from the first appointment. She laid into me telling me that 'she was frustrated with me'. I stopped her and said I'm sorry if she misunderstood -- I just had questions about skin care - and that she told me to come back in when my skin allergies cleared up. She snapped back that she gave me recommendations and samples last time. I told her I liked a couple but was curious as to the differences and which was best given that I couldn't afford all of the product (it is very expensive!). She answered the question but with a nasty and irritable tone. I then asked for a sunscreen recommendation because the sunscreen they sell in their office is $80 a bottle (!!). She refused to recommend a cheaper option, saying she could only recommend her product. At that point I decided she was more concerned with selling her expensive product than patient care (she hadn't actually examined me this time -- she just came in, sat down across the room from me and started telling me off). In the end I didn't buy anything from her. A couple days later I received a letter in the mail saying she was no longer able and willing to provide service... as if I'd go back after that! I am not interested in Dr. Borton's product nor her pride. I recommend that you DO NOT go to this doctor. read more

I first went to Sun Valley Skin Center on a recommendation as I had an acute issue that needed diagnosis. I ended up coming back for a separate issue that was more chronic in nature. Overall, Dr. Borton seems to know her stuff, but she can be very rude and I never felt comfortable seeing her for the repeat treatments I needed. I felt nervous each time about her confrontational nature, like 'what is she going to say to me this time?'. It didn't take long to realize she's in the game to make money from botox and fillers, if you go to the office you'll understand right away that it's geared toward that clientele. If you have real skin issues, go to an office that makes your medical issues a priority, unless you like being humiliated-in which case this place is for you. read more

I Have had skin issues all of my life and wanted a place I could see my doctor and do some cosmetic procedures as well. I did appreciate Dr Bortons, no nonsense attitude, and she did help me. HOWEVER, when I had my first two cosmetic procedures The esthetician was arrogant and rude and I did not enjoy the experience at all. She lost complete interest in me when it was clear I was not going to buy all the products, or the makeup (which I tried but it oxidized over the day and made my face look orange) The second time I went in for the procedure she invited the going to be new esthetician into the room and procedure without asking me if it was okay and spent the entire time talking like I wasn't even there, and I felt like I was in the way of their conversation, and should excuse myself. For $100 bucks a service, which should be enjoyable and relaxing, I don't think so. Dr. Borton is absolutely amazing and I am sad to say I will not longer be able to go to to this practice again due to a policy they have. I purchased a bleaching cream however a month of using it (this cream was $120) I called them to tell them it did not work and the front office said sorry we can only return items up to 2 weeks. I said I was surprised they do not stand behind their product. The office manager told me he would refund my money but if he did I could NEVER buy a product from them again. I asked what if I have a procedure done or want to buy something that has nothing to do with face cream and he said "you can never purchase a product from us again" . If I can't purchase a product then what would be the point of ever going back. It's too bad because I really like Dr Borton and have been a member for years; however since I can't purchase from them what would be the point of getting treated by the doctor? read more
