The Los Feliz location has become one of my favorites. The owner and team are incredibly friendly and helpful every time I walk in. I've never had to wait long, which makes it super convenient. The beds are always clean, the towels are always fresh, and the space feels well maintained. They have a wide range of bed options, and I was able to get a great tan for my event within a week. 1-Star Review: Extremely Disappointed & Shocked by Their Treatment I brought my sister--an elderly woman visiting from out of state--into Sunworks to use one of my credits. She was all prepared, showered, and had her loofah with her, excited to enjoy the experience before we flew out the next day. To our complete shock, they refused to let me gift her one of my credits. No compassion, no flexibility, no customer service. Just a hard "no," even though the credit was paid for and she was only in town briefly. It was upsetting, embarrassing, and honestly baffling. The owner Jack made me feel very comfortable. Never upselling. Really caring about his customers. His employees show that they are happy to be working for someone who actually cares about their customers. I've read numerous reviews of him making things right, which says a lot about his integrity. Red light therapy has an insane amount of benefits and I had no idea until he told me about just some of them! Also try the hybrid red light tanning, it's done wonders for my mood in general and my color is unreal. The sun is so good for you but we can't always get the real thing. I came last Sunday eager to try their uv/red light combo bed. I am not a usual tanner, but I was craving warmth and wanted to try red light. I told the woman I saw their Sunday special (advertised clearly on their website--buy two get one free), but that I wanted to try the bed before committing to anything. She understood and offered to sell me a $120 bottle of tan cream. I declined. As mentioned in other reviews, the place is bare bones and not that clean, but my experience in the bed (clean and maintained) was fine. I came back today looking forward to purchasing the Sunday deal. The receptionist was confused at what I was talking about, and when I showed her the website ad she grabbed her phone presumably to check with someone (I don't know). She then said "I think those are for new customers only, but if you buy a package of 20 you get one free." I told her I was not interested in 20, I was interested in the buy two get one free and that had I known last week I would have done that. She had no response. The overpriced nature of this place, poor communication, and unwillingness to adhere to their own advertised deals (combined with the fact that the facility is not welcoming or that clean) means that I won't be returning. I bought an introductory package from this location right before summer started and i only used one of the sessions. I was worried the package would expire since its been awhile, even though they had told me it wasn't going to expire when i first purchased it. I called and the owner was so helpful and it felt like he really wanted to help me. Since it's been awhile i forgot the information i used to purchase my package and he was patient to find my account and let me know i was still able to use it. So At first I was going to give this place 1 star but am giving them four due to the great customer service I got from the kind manager jack in the long run and am going to make this as descriptive as possible, I'm kind of new to the world of tanning so am not familiar with average pricing else where but my first spray I ever got elsewhere was the same price as here (45) for and I usually need a tan immediately before a big show or audition. On that note one thing to keep in mind is that their solution takes four hours to show, I never knew that was a thing so got upset when I didn't notice a difference in my before and after photo I took of myself in the room. So just keep in mind if you want immediate results cause the staff doesn't tell you. I had some issues with my spray tan and messaged the manager asking how he could fix my tan because the solution only showed up the next day in one place (on my left butt cheek), and I was livid cause I had two more auditions that day. Even though the manager took a while to respond he called me back and was super accommodating. He apologized for the inconvenience and offered me to come back to get another in the better machine on the house. I would recommend using the more expensive spray tan machine (mystic HD) as well. It's totally worth the $10 difference especially if you want to go really dark. He also included a trial on one of the tanning beds in which I have never tried so was an experience. Personally i prefer the spray tans because I am claustrophobic. Haha The staff is friendly and informative with a dash of millennial rudeness (I don't think it's intentional, it's just that millennials think it's okay to be on their phones texting while answering your questions on the clock with a customer), if it wasn't for that and the first bad trial run with the spray tan issue on my butt, I would have given this place a full five stars. read more

I wanted to wait to give this place a review. I was leaving to Mexico Friday and went into sunworks on Thursday for the mystic spray. Jack was amazing at explaining to me about mystic and versa. I got the spray. Then Jack offered me a discount to try out the lights which I was nervous about because I burn easily but nope. I tried it out and loved it. Jack knew exactly what I wanted and needed. He is so friendly. The place is really clean. Relaxing place actually. I was afraid of being orange but the next morning I woke up and had a beautiful glow and tan. It lasted me two weeks which was worth my money! I'm definitely going back so the summer I can have my glow. And I'm pale white and I loved the outcome! read more

EDIT: So I wrote my original review yesterday after being annoyed with the service I had been receiving, but because I had a membership and was locked in for another 2 months, I figured I might as well keep going for what I paid for. But today is where the stars fell, and if I could they would receive a -Star. Today I went in for my normal red-light, and because my eczema is clearing up (no thanks to them, but rather medicine I've been taking) I decided I'd also do the stand up to get some of the even coloring back. The membership for this is $159 at sign up, and $99 for the second two months (this is also listed RIGHT next to the register). Upon arriving I'm greeted by a guy I'm assuming based on other reviews is "Jack". Right away he notices my account hasn't been charged for the membership and claims that it must've been a bank issue. He starts fumbling around papers, which in my mind makes 0 sense, not because I have more then enough money to cover a membership I signed up for and not because I had no notification of an attempted charge to my account, but the fact that for some reason he would.... Anyways from there he tried to get confirmation of who signed me up. No reason I should know any of these girls names, so doing my best to describe them he continued to look around for what I assume was my membership paperwork, while continuing to blame my bank. At that point I showed him my actual account and that theres no way it was an issue on my end. Keep in mind he's acknowledged that it was a membership I initially paid for, I'm assuming based on what he was viewing on his computer. From that point on he was mentioning that he could just sign me back up. I replied that I'd rather not pay the $159 again due to their mistake, when the second two months were "like 89-100 bucks". He then told me "no the consecutive months are $129". After that he continued to dick around in his cabinets, only to eventually call more employees, all claiming to know who I was and not recalling signing me up for a membership...Even though I paid membership price and the woman who signed me up had a long ass discussion with me about which package would be best for me... Either this "Jack" is a boss not a leader, who puts fear in his employees, or he just hires idiots. Nonetheless, it was during that time his "$129" statement continued to linger in my mind, so I glanced over to where I remember the prices being and sure enough the package I got was listed at "$159 sign up fee, $99 for the consecutive months". I called him out on that and he had the audacity to tell me "those are wrong" and I'd have to pay their new prices. Well changing those prices should be your FIRST act of duty otherwise you honor the prices listed, and that I was sold. And the fact he actually thought I would resign up for a membership at 159 dollars, due to their incompetence, is just a sign of how little respect they have for their clients. Add on the disgusting environment I mentioned in my previous review, the bad parking and all, I don't think his employees being "sweethearts" (moronic ones at that) can save this from being a slimy poorly ran scam of a business. DO NOT waste your time here. Hopefully the time you would've spent there, you spent reading this review and I saved you some or your hard earned money! And I'm sure eventually this will get a reply with some half baked excuse. If so and I can respond, believe I will. Cause theres is nothing "Jack" could say to get out of this poor act of customer service and business management. And I don't mean the 30 min last call that's posted on their door. Their real last call is about an hour early because their "machines have to shut down" or some BS like that, essentially saying "you can't use our machines during business hours cause we don't wanna wait to turn em off later"....These are just the many reasons why a membership here is just a waste of money...If you need to do a week of tanning, then I'm sure it's fine. Worst ever experience. Service was bad. I got my skin burned out and never ever got that in any other places. Trust me I have 20 years of experience in tanning saloons. Girl on the front desk recommended to take "the best tan bed" for ten minutes when I said my skin is super sensitive she recommended me 8 mins. I have been inside for 6 when I felt that am burning and I left the bed. And got the worst pain next two days. After calling manager to see what would be the solution as I also paid for 6 sessions I went trough the hell. Manager trying to convince me that it was my own decision to go for longer that they never offer 10 mins to a new clients. Trust me I wouldn't survive after 10 mins of that tan! Instead of apologizing I had all that people (manager and front desk girl) yelling and trying to convince me that I understood everything wrong. So the fault was mine. This place sucks. First of all, it's way overpriced- I walked in for 1 standup session and a packet of lotion and it was $28. For 6 mins. Then as I'm about to tan I ask the front desk for goggles- they don't provide goggles. You can purchase goggles. So all of this plus they don't bother doing their customers the solid of having hot water in the bathroom for you to wash your hands with. Do not spend your hard earned money here. They clearly don't respect their customers. My regular spot is LA Tanning at La Brea and Sunset (where they have a sweet staff, fair pricing and provide sanitized goggles free of charge) - I should have never cheated on them. read more

I'm writing this review in hopes of seeing some changes next time I'm here. This place is doing the bare minimum to survive. Every employee is a sweetheart, but I rarely come across the same employee twice. My main complaint is how filthy this place is. I usually do the standup bed (room #3), and its gross. Thankful I don't really need to touch much. Once you're inside, the metal flooring has tiny openings to the actual floor, and you can see piles of dirt. Even the machine itself is filthy from the outside. Just a broom and some windex should do the job. The wooden chair inside the room has been there since 1999! The towel rack is broken, never been replaced. I highly doubt it will cost much to fix a few things to get things going. Only reason I continue to come here is convenience to home. I don't know anything about this but I went for the first time today. It seemed clean enough and the people explained the process well enough. It gets really hot! The session is only 15 minutes max though so it's bearable. There is a fan running too. I didn't understand how it works until it was too late! I wanted to tan in preparation of a beach wedding but I waited until 2 days before to start. I guess if you want to do it the right way, you would go a week or two in advance and build up your base. Live and learn. It seems decently priced (though it adds up!) at 25 per session. Or whatever it worked out to... I went to the Pasadena location and it was dead quiet. I was the only client there. Look, we all know that tanning beds give you skin cancer, right? What's not part of the deal is getting other weird skin conditions due to the facility's lack of cleanliness. Every time I came here, I noticed stray hairs littered on the floor, black stains on the wooden chairs in the tanning rooms and a general griminess of the beds. Can you shine a blacklight on a tanning bed? I thought it was safe to continue coming here because when I would show up and a tanning bed had just been used, the front desk person would go around the corner for 7.5 seconds and I could hear the sound of three quick spritzes from a spray bottle, signifying a deep, thorough cleaning of the bed before I climbed into it. At the beginning of one visit, I thought the bed looked particularly grimy, but chalked it up to scuffs from long-time use. The extreme itching and the rash that developed the next day told a different story. One tube of prescription topical later and hopefully this review will be all that I have to remember this place by. Shout out to the misinformed young lady who works the front desk and told me on my first time there that some of their beds are safe to use without goggles. I'd describe her except I haven't been able to make out facial features since that visit. Two stars instead of one because it's close and that ALWAYS counts for something. read more

Went to Sun Works today for a spray tan before catching a flight for vacation. They have an HD version (sprays then dries you) and regular (just sprays you). I had HD last time and didn't think it was necessary. It also costs $38 instead of $29. So I say, I'll take the regular. Salon attendant describes the process and says, "just push the green button." Okay. I undress, put on the shower cap, get in, and push the green button. Nothing. I get dressed again and go out front. I say it's not working. "Oh, you gotta push the button real hard. Aaaall the way in." Okay, maybe she knows something I don't about buttons. I decide to trust her. I go back in and re-get undressed, put on the shower cap, get in, and push the button "hard." Nothing. I get dressed again and go out. It's not still working. "Oh, let me call my manager." In the meantime, try it again. This time I'm not fooled. I'm not getting re-re undressed for this fool. So I'm sitting there while this vapid dropout talks to her manager and they trouble shoot the machine for 15 minutes. Hey, how bout popping me into the HD machine while you determine if your business is capable of fully performing the very service that is its business...spraying grumpy pale people. No, she makes me wait. At one point she says into the phone, "Okay, do I just mark it bill no charge?" I took this as a good sign that she was going to ring up a HD session for free. Lol. It's been 25 minutes since entering the store, watching this dullard cluelessly screw around with the back of this dirty, broken, hand-me-down machine. Then she tells me, "So the machine is out of service. You can either pay another $9 and get the HD, or you can drive to Glendale and get the regular." Um, no, just give me the HD. I already paid $29. I've been waiting. Just give it to me. "I don't have the authority." Yeah you do you. You press a button on your computer and clear juice sprays out of a nozzle. Everybody with a finger has the authority. "Oh no, I can't." No apology. Give your boss a call. Tell him I want the HD at no extra cost. I've been waiting here for 25 minutes while you futz with your machine. That's your problem, this is simple customer service. She calls, not because of my request, but because she can't figure out how to issue a refund either. "The manager says he doesn't have the authority to give you an HD either (f you). But he says you can drive to Glendale (f you) or pay the difference of the HD (f you). Or (f you), he's coming by in five hours to check the machine (f you), so you can come back then (f you). You see, this machine must be reset once a year (I'm lying to your face and f you), and today happens to be that day (still lying, f you)." This is terrible customer service. You're going to lose a customer over $9?! No, you're going to give me that HD or I'm going to torch you on Yelp. Tell your boss that. Although she's on the phone with him, she refuses to tell him. The staff is extremely friendly, they are really helpful especially when you aren't sure what tanning bed to choose. The tanning beds are kept and updated very well. It's extremely clean and sanitized which is always important since there are all kinds of greasy sweaty people sliding all over the machines and leaving who knows what behind. I use the matrix bed and have never had a problem with the results. It doesn't burn you at all and you finish with a nice tan color, perfect if you need a quick tan because you see results in one session. They have great packages and offer an unlimited for two weeks option. They have an assortment of tanning lotions for purchase that help darken your color too. I would highly recommend this place. Pretty lackluster place. First visit i waited at the front desk for at least 3 min before the girl appeared with her headphones on. Then when I asked about the new client form she said verbatim "don't ask me I didn't write it" Okay. The don't provide anything for you... no goggles. No tissues. No wet wipes. Anything that even a medium level salon would offer their clients who are paying rather overpriced amounts for. I bought 4 sessions and a sample tanning packet and it came to $90 (wtf). I managed a tanning salon in college and I am in sales and I honestly don't understand how this place has any higher than two stars. Prices, customer service and value are all 1-2 stars at best. I'm only writing this review about the staff and strange hours- they close at 8pm on Saturdays, or 10pm other nights- but you cannot come in after 7:30 or 9:30- I just arrived at 7:32 and the two girls were super rude... they literally lock the door and wave you away like you're a nuisance for coming during their posted business hours. I haven't been in a long time and came in today and the owner was there and he was so nice and courteous. Okay, I have to knock Sun Works down a few stars. The main reason is I feel like the beds aren't very strong anymore. Back in the day, I would go 15 minutes max on a regular bed and would have to jump out early because it was so intense and I feared I would burn. Today, I went the full 20 minutes and it felt so weak. And I am PASTY. I can't remember the last time I went tanning or was out in the sun for an extended period of time. And this isn't just the same bed every time. They all feel weaker. I still like it here, but they might need to change out the bulbs. read more
