Appointment & questions: I sent a yelp-msg to make an appointment & I got an answer immediately. Also the day and time I was looking for was available - so very happy with that. The staff is super nice and helped me out with any question I had. (Never got a professional tan before, so I had a bunch). Thank you! :-) Parking: I recommend taking an Uber or Lyft, because to find a park at Melrose is a little hard. I took a Lyft & that was very comfortable for me. The shop has wifi, so if you are a foreigner like me & stuck without cellular, you are able to get a ride back without searching for a Starbucks. Treatment: I got the tan from Nicole (I hope I remember your name right - I'm so bad with names. :-/ ). She was great! Super nice, asked me what I was looking for, informed me about everything she's gonna do and how I have to treat my tan at home to have the best and long lasting results. Tan: After 8 hours u're allowed to take a shower. I waited 9 to be sure. Because u will still have some spraycolor on your skin it can look a little muddy - this was completely gone after I took a shower. It came out super even & not orange at all! My first...and probably last spray tan. 3 stars because I had a great experience getting the tan and loved the way I looked when I left. I followed all pre and post tan instructions religiously, as I was attending a Bachelorette trip and wanted my tan to last. Unfortunately, by the next day, I had a strange tan band around the middle of my stomach. It looked terrible in the photos from the trip and was embarrassing. I would have paid the same amount or more to NOT have that tan on the trip. As the week went on, it became splotchy and I'm still trying to get rid of weird splotches in my armpits and on my chest area. When I reached out to my technician, I was informed that this can happen from sitting and that we'll put more powder on next time. I did not do any rigorous activity after my tan, but did sit at my desk to work a few hours later, which is what must have caused this. Can't really see how a spray tan would work unless you made sure to stand up straight for 8 hours after getting the tan. read more

I love going to WAX for my hand spray tans. I was pleased to find a place so close to my apartment that offered a decently-priced hand spray and love the little boutique offerings in the actual shop. The technicians are always so pleasant and I'm always able to get any time I request so long as I call at least two days prior. I will continue to go to WAX for my spray tans AND to pick up quick little gifts in their boutique. (Warning: Parking can be a bit tricky. I'm absolutely, positively, ridiculously hooked to Jenni! Born and raised in Los Angeles, I have tried out almost everyone regarding tanning salons and personal spray tanners. I met Jenni through Nikki and Riawna at 901 Salon. Jenni is so convenient, because she based out of the salon (which is great because I can get my hair done, and get a quick tan as well), or she will come to your house. Jenni is all about the details. She gave me a tan in about 10 minutes and it looks wonderful PLUS I don't have to worry about damaging my skin in the sun. The scariest part of spray tanning is having the solution turn you orange. I have sprayed with her over 12 times, and not once have I turned a weird color. I usually will get sprayed before red carpet events, and it looks like I have just returned from vacation. I have never had a line, and the solution is wonderful and doesn't smell too strong, so you can even go out that night and have no one notice. I've been going to SKJ for years, and it's honestly the only place I'm comfortable getting spray tans. They offer a level of quality and consistency with their work that is unmatched among other salons, and which really takes away the anxiety of getting a spray tan before a big event. I did my first spray with Jenni two days before my college graduation, and I was so nervous I'd leave the salon streaky or orange, effectively ruining all the pictures I'd have to take at my ceremony. I'm really type A and a huge perfectionist about style/appearance, so it's always hard for me to find places I can trust to hold themselves to the same standard as I do. Fortunately for me, my spray came out PERFECTLY, and looked fantastic. Jenni was so helpful and sweet, and made me feel so comfortable. The tanning experience itself was quick and easy, and I was in and out in less than half an hour. The day I got my first spray also happened to be one of the only days of the year that it was pouring rain in LA, so of course I managed to smudge several areas on my legs 20 minutes after I left the salon. I texted Jenni panicking, but she assured me the smudges were probably just the bronzing agent, not the actual tan itself, and that I'd probably be fine once I rinsed off in the morning. If not, she said I was welcome to come back to the salon the next day, and she would fix any problem areas or streaks I had, free of charge. This immediately put me at ease, and I was able to save myself from hours of anxiety as I waited for the tan to develop. The next day, the tan was in fact fine, just as Jenni had assured me, and it looked so flawless and natural. I still go back to look at pictures from graduation sometimes, just to reminisce on how good that tan looked :) Now I go to SKJ any time I have a big event, premiere, or party I need to attend, and I'm always able to go in with the confidence that my tan will come out beautifully. All of the girls on the SKJ team are sweet, attentive, and talented, but if you are able to make a request, I'd recommend Jenni or Mackinlee. Mackinlee did my most recent spray, and she made me feel so at ease during the entire experience. She took her time and applied the tan so precisely, and the final product looked amazing. After she was finished, she let me inspect myself in the mirror to make sure I was happy with every part of the tan, and offered to do a few extra coats on my face and hands (since those areas always lighten up quickly for me). She even texted me the next day to make sure my tan was looking great, and said I was welcome to stop by the salon if I needed any touch ups (of course I didn't, but it's so nice of them to offer the option). The tan lasted for longer than a week before it started lightening up, and even when it did, it faded naturally and subtly. No splotchiness, no looking like I have some sort of weird skin disease - it was perfect. Can't recommend her enough. I normally get my bronze on via the old-fashioned way - the good old sun. However, I was going ti a wedding in NY and needed a little boost so I decided to try SKJ. I had never gotten a spray tan before so I was very hesitant but I couldn't have picked a better professional to go to to pop my cherry. Jenni was thorough and made me feel comfortable. Zoe saved the day!!! I'm a triathlete. During competition season I get an intense racer-back tan. For the most part I wear these tan lines with pride; a reflection of all the hours I've spent training. This past year however, I was Maid of Honor in a friend's wedding who chose backless dresses for her bridal party. The dress was lovely, and after all those hours at the gym, it looked amazing on me... Except it looked like I was wearing a pale sports bra because my tan lines were so strong. I write reviews for one or two reasons. One if the business leaves me in awe, or two I had a vary vary bad experience. Unfortunately this one is bad. After reading all the reviews on yelp, I decided to give this place a try before my birthday vacation in Maui since she had so many 5 star wonderful reviews (which I'm now a little confused about how and why they're all 5 stars.) Although I haven't had many professional spray tan experiences in the past I've self tanned myself enough to know enough about how the process works. So here goes my experience: 1. The parking situation.. just horrible. Imagine being on melrose and only 4 parking spots on the side of the street in front of the store and nowhere else close by to park. Since it took me a good 20 minutes to drive four times around the block to find parking, I went in there at 7:10pm for my 7:00pm appointment. Correct me if I'm wrong but when you're 10 minutes late to anywhere in LA it shouldn't affect the duration of the appointment. When I showed up at the door, the door was locked and the girl inside looked at me and came and opened the door for me. She rushed me inside and told me that they were supposed to be closed and said we needed to hurry up cause supposedly she was going to have another customer waiting... the girl who greeted me and sprayed me was not Jenni, which left me confused for a second because I thought Jenni would be the one spraying since that's who I called in for.. but I didn't care too much and was happy with whoever as long as they can spray tan me well. 2. When I called in to make the appointment I specifically wanted 1) a spray tan and 2) a "contour" that they offered. When I asked about the contour she told me "oh you have book that separately since it takes an extra 10 minutes." When I told her that I had booked both when I called in she just simply told me "ya no we didn't get that" ugh so frustrating. 3. Since I'm outdoors a lot I'm left with a few bad tan lines from clothing, the reason for my spray tan was so that I could have it evened out. I told the girl that I did not want to be too too dark but just to have my tan evened out, but it seems like she sprayed my whole body including the places that were already tanned several times. 2. The whole spraying process felt so incredibly rushed and once we were finished up she rushed out to the register and when I walked out I realized that she in fact did NOT have anyone else waiting after me so I really do not understand why we needed to rush? Maybe she had somewhere to be but still I didn't even sign the consent form (it was never presented to me) that was left on the chair. 3. For someone who is very careful after spray tanning just to avoid blotchy tans, I was left with some pretty bad blotches and dark dark colors in areas that shouldn't be dark (armpit, crotch.) The color I was left with after I rinsed off was way darker than I had expected and blotchy all around. Final thought: Maybe I just had a bad experience but the color I was left with will not be bringing me back again (my boyfriend says I look like a complete different race) The experience with their service was very subpar as well. I would honestly recommend my friends to use their own self tanners instead of paying 60 somewhat bucks for this:/ I don't like leaving bad reviews but I feel like I had to vent somehow... since now I am left with a bad spray tan for my birthday vacation. Ugh so frustrating!! read more

Since tanning beds are so five years ago, I switched to sprays. 9 times out of 10, I would never suggest getting a spray tan. Leaving you orange, sticky, and blotchy... but after getting a spray tan by Zoe, she has changed my life! Most of the time I would only get a spray tan if I were competing on stage. Now that I have found a spray that looks natural and doesn't leave me spotted after two days, I enjoy getting one even if I am not competing! I definitely am a fan! This tanning salon DOES NOT leave you orange. Simple as that. I have been to SunKissed by Jenni twice now and am very satisfied with the results. I've had several spray tans before with different companies and always had those irritating blotched areas. When going to SunKissed I have had 0! Some areas take more spray, for example my hands and face, so I let them know ahead of time so they can spray more in those areas. There is SO much apathy with customer service these days, so I am thrilled when I finally get good service! I started with another spot across town, and got a snobby, disinterested, Gen Z-er on the phone (after leaving messages no one ever returned), who couldn't be bothered. First impressions are EVERYTHING to me. Ended up at SKJ with Sidney, who was very responsive and patient in answering my questions (=establishing a new client-see how that works?). She did a PERFECT job of making my spray tan even and natural looking. Not a small feat for someone who is naturally day-glo white. I would say it lasted about only four days, but I find this to be standard for me, and it carried me well enough through a week in Mexico. She is very professional and does a great job getting the color that you want.
