I honestly do think this is as good as it gets in SLO - great walk-in deals, super-clean rooms, cable TV + AC + microwave + fridge + coffee pot w/ coffee + FREE WiFi, and walking distance to downtown SLO. Amazing! We love staying here so we can go out at night and not need to designate a driver. We've never heard any noise from side rooms, although you can occasionally hear traffic from the Villa Motel's parking lot if someone is revving their motorcycle at 3 am (unfortunately the case for us one night). The front-desk service is very friendly, and they keep coffee and area maps there if you're looking for something to do. For a motel, we definitely enjoy Sunbeam more than Motel 6. Wake up early, take a walk and grab breakfast at Splash Cafe, or an afternoon beer at Central Coast Brewing (both are 1 block away). Make the most of this great location! If I'm not in a moving truck the next time I visit SLO, trust that I'll be staying at the Sunbeam Motel. :-)

Great motel. Perfect both in a pinch and when you have time to plan. Nice people and good prices.

We checked in around 6pm on a week day and booked a fire place room (room 8). We had no issues checking in and I love how cozy the hotel is. It had a feel of a small, personal hotel which I loved over these big hotel chains. The price was also very fair per night. The room: extremely large and clean. I loved the fire place although it got pretty hot pretty quickly. This would be perfect for the winter! I liked it just because there's something about having a fire place that just makes the room much more cozy. Amenities: The hotel delivers breakfast every morning around 7am with local black coffee and two pastries. We were also very pleasantly surprised to see they have an EV charger. It's $2 per hour which is fair. Charges about 6kwH (even though the charger says 8kW per hour). The good thing is when the charges cut out occasionally, it didn't charge me for that time. Was able to charge fully on my Tesla Y from 10% to 80% for like $14. They also have local Kombucha which you can ask for at the front desk. You can also keep the bags that come with the breakfast which is an awesome momento! Feedback to the hotel: I didn't take any stars off because it's not really a negative but just something you can improve on. We did have really noisy guests next door some back late at night (likely inebriated) but the walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything even people just walking up the stairs to their rooms. It woke us up and made it hard to fall back asleep. We could also hear the laundry machines or something rumbling in the middle of the night as well. Moreover, the sink stopped draining in the bathroom which we told the front desk at checkout and they were appreciative of the feedback. Overall, my wife and I loved this hotel. the rooms were lovely and cozy. It was so awesome they had EV charges which saved me so much time having to run to a super charger. Service was amazing as well. Would definitely stay here again when visiting SLO.

There was evidence of some wear and tear on the room and some dust in the crevices of the intricate light fixtures with birds, but overall it smelled and was clean. The stone/rock shower was delightful. The pool area was busy in the afternoon with families and had a little bit of a frat party feel but in the morning - it was quieter and I could swim and soak in the hot tub. The main building, where the restaurants are is downright whimsical. Couldn't we all use a little more whimsy in our lives right now? Bright pink and lights and floral carpet. As a NYRican who now lives in Los Angeles, it's easy to forget how non-city parts and people are but it was fine - not diverse at all but fine. I especially had a lovely time talking to some of the staff. Forest at the Copper Cafe and I had a convo about his dreams and it was his birthday. Nancy the bartender was as sweet as the champagne cake she serve me with a smile and stories about how karaoke adventures. Ah and the animals! I met a cat, some horses, cows, lizards and birds. Would I come back? Maybe to try a different room but for sure it was worth it for this little trip.

I don't know if my love for the decor can save our experience though... We went to the bar at around 9:30pm and to our delight there was a band playing! However, they played two songs with a significant break in between and that was it for music for the night. Even after they left the stage no music was turned on and it wasn't busy enough for noise to fill the space so it was just kind of quiet and awkward. I feel like throwing a playlist on could very easily improve the vibes. Service was okay, the bartenders seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. Drinks weren't too shabby and fairly priced. The next morning we came back to try the cake since they were closed by the time we got there the evening before. Holy chaos batman. It was very busy! The entrance to copper cafe and the bakery counter are in the same spot so it got crowded very quickly. There's no designated line so you kinda have to fight to get to the counter if it's busy, two parties cut in front of us and speaking up about it did nothing. There needs to be a rope to line up or a clear line or SOMETHING. The cake is $15 a slice. They're big slices but the cake was just okay. Certainly nothing to write home about for me. If you're passing by, stop in for pictures. But that's about all it's good for in my opinion!

I've always enjoyed staying at Embassy Suites, and if the price is right, I'll usually choose them…read moreover other hotel chains. Unfortunately, this stay just wasn't up to the standard I've come to expect. Check-in was quick and easy, and our suite was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. One surprise was being charged to park in an open parking lot. I wish that had been disclosed upfront. We were staying three nights as a family of six, yet the body wash dispenser in our room was less than one-eighth full when we arrived. We figured it would be an easy fix, but after my kids went to the front desk, housekeeping brought a shampoo bottle that was less than half full--and no body wash or conditioner. That meant another trip to the front desk just to get basic amenities. The pool is usually one of my favorite parts of staying at Embassy Suites, but this one was disappointing. There was debris floating in the water and visible junk on the bottom of the pool. It honestly looked like it needed a good cleaning. Breakfast was where things really went downhill. My 12-year-old daughter ordered a spinach omelet and found a green beetle about the size of a dime cooked into it. When my wife brought it to the staff's attention, one cook actually commented that it "didn't look cooked." My wife pointed out that not only was it cooked, it was greasy from the oil used to prepare the omelet. Thankfully, another cook stepped in, apologized sincerely, and handled the situation professionally. It also appeared they may have been short-staffed. Around 5:30 a.m. when I left for work, there were still empty beer bottles and cups sitting around the atrium from the night before. One area where the hotel absolutely deserves praise is housekeeping. They did an outstanding job. Every day I returned from work, the room was spotless and well cared for. They were easily the highlight of our stay. The evening hospitality reception was also a bit underwhelming. It consisted of the same tortilla chips, salsa, snack mix, and cheese cubes each night. I've stayed at other Embassy Suites that offered fresh vegetable trays with ranch and a better variety of snacks. Overall, there were definitely some positives, but unfortunately more negatives than I'm used to experiencing at Embassy Suites. I know this brand can do much better, which made this stay especially disappointing. I'm hoping this was just an off week because this isn't the Embassy Suites experience I've come to expect.
