The first thing that stood out was the lobby. It was absolutely gorgeous.....beautifully and tastefully decorated, and it honestly felt more like a swanky boutique hotel in Las Vegas than a typical Quality Suites. The hotel has a complimentary happy hour every evening from 5:30-7:30, and it was fantastic. They offered free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, along with very reasonably priced BBQ food like burgers and chicken sandwiches. It created such a welcoming atmosphere, with families and other guests gathering in the central courtyard, chatting and relaxing while soft music played in the background. It really encouraged people to come out of their rooms and enjoy the space together. Our suite was much larger than expected, with a separate living room and bedroom connected by a dividing door. Having that extra space made traveling with kids much more comfortable. The staff also let us check in early at 12:00 p.m., which made a huge difference after our drive and was greatly appreciated. Breakfast was another highlight. It was complimentary, but it felt much better than a standard hotel breakfast. They had hot options cooked to order, including breakfast burritos and griddle plates, and everything we tried was delicious. I also appreciated the little touches throughout the property. There were plenty of pool towels available by the pool, so we never had to hunt one down, and there were clear signs throughout the hotel reminding guests about breakfast and happy hour times, making it easy not to miss these great amenities. This hotel clearly puts thought into the guest experience. Between the friendly staff, spacious rooms, excellent food and drinks, beautiful common areas, and family- and pet-friendly atmosphere, we'll absolutely stay here again the next time we're in San Luis Obispo.

However, the rooms are extremely outdated... they genuinely feel like they haven't been updated since the 1960s. The property is in serious need of a refresh, if not a complete renovation. During my stay, I noticed uneven flooring, scratchy bed linens, an uncomfortable mattress, and even a patio screen that had fallen off. These are the types of details that significantly impact the guest experience. For a room costing around $250 per night, I expected a much higher level of comfort, maintenance, and overall quality, especially considering there is a resort fee on top of the nightly rate. The hotel has some nice amenities, but the condition of the rooms makes it difficult to justify the price.

I was having a day already and this set me over the top. I was not super nice to the front desk staff, it was late, I had driven from San Diego, I was exhausted and starving and I kept showing them my reservation receipt e-mail frustrated. Then I started crying, it was embarrassing guys. The woman at the front desk was SO NICE TO ME. I thought she was going to start crying when I was crying. I was venting to her about a guy and she was so empathetic. It was a wild couple of moments. The other woman who went in the back to speak with the manager came back out and said that although they couldn't find the reservation at that moment she was going to find me a room and upgrade me for my inconvenience and put me in a suite. That was so over the top generous. Then she handed me a bottle of wine for my inconvenience. I don't drink but it was seriously the sweetest gesture. I was not inconvenience these people at the front desk, I cannot say enough nice things about how this situation was handled. The bellhop brought my luggage up to my room for me. When I walked into the room my jaw dropped. The room was unbelievable. Massive entryway, enormous room, most comfortable bed, huge balcony with a massive bed couch outside, bathroom was insane. It was seriously perfect and over the top. They had complimentary snacks and water. They had a stunning bar and restaurant in the lobby with a huge fireplace. The pool was dreamy. The hallways were huge, it was luxurious. It was one of the most luxury stays I've ever had. I cannot recommend this place enough. Walking distance to everything. Thank you for being so great!

Also Room 10's windows is right next to the bus stop, so you hear a lot of conversations and a lot of loud cars drive by. Fortunately the hotel provides earplugs and an eye mask which was really cool. There's also a complimentary breakfast from 8-10 and I appreciated the 2 clearly marked gluten free items on the menu.

We checked in around 6pm on a week day and booked a fire place room (room 8). We had no issues checking in and I love how cozy the hotel is. It had a feel of a small, personal hotel which I loved over these big hotel chains. The price was also very fair per night. The room: extremely large and clean. I loved the fire place although it got pretty hot pretty quickly. This would be perfect for the winter! I liked it just because there's something about having a fire place that just makes the room much more cozy. Amenities: The hotel delivers breakfast every morning around 7am with local black coffee and two pastries. We were also very pleasantly surprised to see they have an EV charger. It's $2 per hour which is fair. Charges about 6kwH (even though the charger says 8kW per hour). The good thing is when the charges cut out occasionally, it didn't charge me for that time. Was able to charge fully on my Tesla Y from 10% to 80% for like $14. They also have local Kombucha which you can ask for at the front desk. You can also keep the bags that come with the breakfast which is an awesome momento! Feedback to the hotel: I didn't take any stars off because it's not really a negative but just something you can improve on. We did have really noisy guests next door some back late at night (likely inebriated) but the walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything even people just walking up the stairs to their rooms. It woke us up and made it hard to fall back asleep. We could also hear the laundry machines or something rumbling in the middle of the night as well. Moreover, the sink stopped draining in the bathroom which we told the front desk at checkout and they were appreciative of the feedback. Overall, my wife and I loved this hotel. the rooms were lovely and cozy. It was so awesome they had EV charges which saved me so much time having to run to a super charger. Service was amazing as well. Would definitely stay here again when visiting SLO.

One of the renters Kimberly Walker opened up a small bistro and wine bar in 2009 and called it the Granada as the original sign was still hanging. The following year the property was slated for demolition. Kimberly partnered with three friends to restore the property to its original use and save the bistro. They picked everything out special to compliment the hotel. It is now home to 17 guest rooms, The Bistro restaurant and the speakeasy Nightcap. We had been wanting to come in for brunch and made a reservation for Saturday morning. It was a beautiful day to sit outside on their gorgeous patio to dine. This place is timeless and I love all the history. Sylvia was our server and she was fantastic. She made sure our experience here was top notch. For starters we went with two Mimosas. So refreshing and delicious. From there we enjoyed their deviled eggs. My main entree was the eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was so perfectly made. We loved everything about dining here. Service was great, food was tasty and drinks were delightful. Parking is on the street and can be a challenge. If you can, you may want to walk here from wherever you might be staying.

Pros: Location makes downtown very walkable and the decor was tasteful. Cons: This is actually a 2-3 star hotel; it has the label of a 4-star because it has on-site dining area and reception. It overpriced for the value, $1,000 for two nights. Back parking through the alleyway was not included; it was $20 a night. The room was small, with a 3' x 3' shower that was about a foot away from the toilet. Shower water splashes out from underneath leaving the bathroom wet most of the time. There was no desk, no closet, and little room to fully lay out a suitcase comfortably. The AC would stop working during the middle of the night and went into multiple error modes on the last night. There was complimentary rosé offered but when we came down, no one was available for it. This hotel did not meet expectations and really should be refunding customers at least 30% back for misleading marketing. Tips: Use the parking structure for $8 daily parking since everything is walkable. We didn't lose the room key but if you do, it would be a $250 charge.

For a bunch of girls, the room is far beyond what you'd imagine a Madonna Inn room would be. It was dimly lit , brown and had the overall vibe of an Ivy League library. We had obviously envisioned all things pink. But overall the suite was spacious for the six of us. My big complaint was that the beds were uncomfortable and there is no shelving or hooks for toiletry bags. Also house keeping is only upon request instead of daily or every other day. The exterior however is awe inspiring, the pool area is ador, and the bar/restaurants inside are fun and inviting. We appreciated the live music and that there is free parking. Would come back again purely to try out a different room.

One of my favorite features is the open kitchen, which is thoughtfully stocked with many of the comforts you would enjoy at home while traveling. On weekends, the staff often adds a personal touch by offering complimentary wine and pastries for guests, making the experience even more welcoming. San Luis Obispo is a wonderful place to visit, and The Butler Hotel makes me feel less like a traveler and more like a member of the local community. The front desk talked us into a different room set up as we initially booked two queen beds for our families's party of three stay. She suggested the king room with a couch bed, and she guaranteed us that full linens were already there, and the pullout would be exceptionally comfortable. We arrived to the room and yes, the room was larger and beautiful. We opened the couch bed and it was a sad thin mattress with no linen. We call downstairs and quickly housekeeping was there to save the day. We requested a mattress topper which we were told the hotel doesn't carry so the housekeeper suggested putting a few comforters on the mattress. It didn't solve the issue, but it surely helped. Come evening time there was an outside light that possibly was getting ready to burn out and flashed on and off like a strobe light making nighttime a little bit difficult to sleep through. Then, in the morning, the elevators were broken. The metal beams at the windows were pretty cool architecture wise but were outrageously dusty. A little shocking. We were told to check out the secret garden which they said was a hidden gem yet the realities were it was a sad, overgrown and forgotten place full of weeds, spiders webs, and sad looking fruit that needed some TLC. All in all the hotel was cute just fell a little short. Sort of a bummer as I expected a bit more.
