The workers were very helpful and did a good job. The owner communication was very unprofessional. After texting with him for a while I decided to call him and ask about the job. When he answered I said "Hi this is the client". He had no clue who I was or what company I was referring to, after meeting with me and being on the job site an hour earlier. On the phone he spoke to me like he was in a rush and as if he was talking to a friend of his and not a client. I'm not sure how well he does with other accounts but I can't imagine this is good for business. Wish him the best of luck with that type of attitude. read more

Let's say I was impressed. We recently bought a new place and I wanted to get the entire place painted. I got a quote from two places. Sundeleaf was actually more expensive but I had more of repore with the folks there. I informed them about the other quote and Sundeleaf changed their price (bonus). Things to know about Sundeleaf: They provided an interior decorator to help me choose colors. The amount of colors you chose will be reflected in your final bill (something like 90 bucks/color) They were willing to come back and paint a few things that were over looked. Over all a good experience. I would definitely use them again for a big job. read more

Well like most other reviewers here we also did not get call backs. My husband was hellbent on using this company because he really liked their website so I bit my tongue and let him handle it. After FIVE calls over several weeks and waiting for call backs, today we learned we never got a call back because they don't service Tigard. I can't speak to their painting skills are because I couldn't even get them to our place to bid it! After calling for an initial bid, I was told that they were very busy and it might take a few days for them to return my call. No big deal. However, a week passed and I still hadn't heard anything. I prefer to support neighborhood businesses when I can (I live in Sellwood), so I called back to give them a second chance. They put me through to someone right away this time, and we scheduled a appointment for a bid. Great! Except they never showed up. Don't waste your time. Awful customer service. read more

I have been looking for a painting company that will come give me an estimate for spray painting all of my interior doors. I called Sundeleaf twice and no one has returned my calls. Rude and unprofessional......plain and simple, especially given that Sundeleaf promotes on their website that they have a special spray painting booth. This does not leave a good first impression. How can a customer trust a company to follow through on their work if they can't be bothered to return a call. 10/29/2014 update: After posting this review on Yelp, Sundeleaf called to apologize for dropping the ball. Someone came out the next day to give me an estimate. The estimator told me they wouldn't charge for pick up and delivery of my doors because they had dropped the ball and I was giving them an opportunity to improve their image. Even with the discount, Sundeleaf's estimate was about $400 higher than MD Cole's estimate. I decided to stick with Mark since both his company (MD Cole) and Sundeleaf get an "A" rating on Angie's List. I do appreciate that Sundeleaf followed up after this Yelp review. Hopefully they will continue to improve on their promptness. However, simply following up doesn't rate, for me, a change from my original 1-star rating. read more

Sundeleaf recently completed an interior woodwork restoration project in my living room and entry, and I was very happy with my experience working with the company AND with the finished project. My woodwork is now drop-dead gorgeous and it has been a pleasure getting there. Following are the details: I recently (CAREFULLY, gently, with a plastic tool and washcloths) stripped the woodwork in my living room and entry, and needed someone to complete the finish work--sanding, staining and sealing. Because I was trying to blend newly stripped woodwork to old historic finishes, and because my home is on the National Register, I didn't want to get it wrong. So I made a call to the Bosco-Milligan Foundation's Historic Resource Center and spoke with a volunteer architect there. She told me that clients of hers had recently been very happy with work of this sort done on their historic homes. She promised to look up the company's name for me when she got back to her office. She called me back with the name Sundeleaf. The first person I met was the estimator, Chris Sawyer, and I found him thorough in communication and eager to go the extra mile. He came out twice for line-item estimates (as my ideas evolved), and spent time going over details with me---before he even knew Sundeleaf would get the work. Later, after I had chosen from a large set of customized samples, he insisted on taking down an entire door and having both sides refinished in my stain and finish choices, so that I could get a fuller sense of the effect of those choices before we moved forward. Because the scope of work was still fluctuating, he did this before the company even had a signed contract! Chris Sawyer is the reason that I knew that I would be working with Sundeleaf, even before my other bids came in. The refinished door was a marvel, and my excitement over seeing it for the first time is one of the highlights of my memories of this contract. This brings me to another company employee, Jin. Jin managed the work of my project, and he is a master at what he does. I will give you an example of his standards by noting that I am still--weeks after project completion--finding little things that he did (and never mentioned) to make things right in my old house. For example, a funky little notch missing from a window ledge had been repaired. The weak wood around the hinges on the sample door had been reglued and strengthened. These are the sort of details that let you know you are in good hands. Furthermore, the guy is personable and very interesting on the topic of his work, a pleasure to have around. Sundeleaf gave me the same free color consultation that they give painting customers and Lynn, too, the interior designer who came out, was a joy to work with. She nailed the colors quickly and they have proved beautiful across the light variations of day and evening (not easy). They suit me perfectly. In short, I feel like I live in a different house now. The everyday joy I am experiencing surrounded by this glowing woodwork and these gorgeous colors is a real testement to Sundeleaf, and to the power of doing things right. I was kind of surprised by the number of low ratings here. This has not been my experience in dealing with them. They have done several projects on our house over the last 20 years (and were recommended by the prior owners of our house), including both major interior and exterior painting. The quality of the work was alway top notch, and the employees on site are away helpful, flexible and neat. They are not necessarily the lowest price option, but the quality makes up for it. I don't recall them ever not getting back to me, and they are certainly better than most contractors. read more

We needed a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of our entry and kitchen doors and also some exterior refinishing work done on some French doors....results were better than the look of the original new doors. After years of western exposure, the French doors' natural finish were all but gone. The lower quadrant of the doors were blackened and water stained. We called Sundeleaf Painting. Their response was not the quickest but their work more than made up for it...excellent work...well above average. The refinishing job brought the natural finish of the doors back to their original, if not better, luster and looks. The paint job on all our other doors were beautifully done. Great job. read more

We hired Sundaleaf after they did an amazing job on my parents house. We could not be happier with the result at our home. They were flexible and fast. They sent out a color designer to help us choose colors and she helped us find the best colors to achieve the look we wanted. There are almost too many options these days! Although I had previously been happy with their service I am now spitting mad, and Yelp gives us the option to level the playing field when a vendor dumps on us. I manage a commercial building and I've used Sundeleaf multiple times to paint various parts of it. I e-mailed Chris Sawyer on 8-15-2014 requesting that they repaint a part of the building that was hit by graffiti. No response. I called in early September, left a message. No return call. I called again twice more in later September as my tenant began complaining loudly because we had not dealt with the graffiti. To date I have not received a single response, no return calls, and now I will move on. I can understand someone being busy, but after a certain limit it becomes the kind of crappy service and insulting behavior that needs to be outed on Yelp. read more

Gary and team did a fantastic job on our living area paint job. He arrived promptly every day with a big smile. When there was a problem with the paint (not their mistake), they repainted all the walls without any expense to us, bringing in extra staff to finish on time. We are picky, and in spite of a difficult job (lots of woodwork, high ceilings, etc), they did a terrific, high quality job. I highly recommend them and will use them again!!! read more

We have been re-modeling but didn't want to buy all new kitchen cabinets. We brought all of our cabinet doors, as well as three interior doors to the shop to be painted. The doors look like new. They were reasonably priced and were done ahead of schedule. read more

Nothing but trouble with 5 (!) painting companies, except Sundeleaf, that did a fantastic job. All painters were referred by either a paint store, or two different remodelers. I have a very nice two story house on a steep slope. In addition to scaffolding, there was some shallow dry rot that required scraping and filling, then the whole house required four different coats (primer, texture, and two conventional outer coats). The first painter bid $4000. I knew nothing about house painting, but I knew that wouldn't do it. I went to the paint store and found out exactly what was needed. When I told the painter, he stopped returning calls. --The next painter told me "no problem, I've done much harder." He stalled me for 3 months promising and re-promising me a bid. Never came thru.--One painter didn't show up for the bid. He apologized. Didn't show up the next day either.--I told another painter about these problems. Told me he wouldn't do that. Guess what? When I told the roofing contractor that worked with him and referred him, he said he'd never refer that guy again. --Same story with the 5th. All referred. All flakes. What are the odds of 5 out of 5? Sundeleaf did show up as promised. The bidder arrived in a sparkling clean, nicely painted van. He was dressed in a professional looking shirt with company logo. Company pride. In addition to the house's exterior, a bathroom required repainting. There was also some water damage in the living room area from a leaking roof I had to replace. Scott was the lead painter on it all. Scott was fastidious, along with his co-painters. The exterior is beautiful, and there wasn't one mistake anywhere. Not even stray paint drops. When I personally painted the wrought iron railings 20 years ago, I used a wire brush and Rustoleum. Scott and the crew treated it like they were repainting the Mona Lisa (I was afraid Scott might get in trouble), and used a special paint. In 2000 I had the interior paint custom mixed. Scott had to patch over the water stains. He brought with him a close "cousin" base color. He also had about a dozen tint colors. He spent well over an hour mixing and remixing the tints. He finally hit it dead on. Amazing. And nothing less would have satisfied him. Was it expensive? I have no other bids to compare to. But not in my book. I'm so pleased with the work. I'm proud of the way my house looks. And there's no doubt in my mind it will all last 40 to 50 years.(Maybe, just maybe, a refreshing overcoat in 25 years). Complaints: To the right of this page I'm typing on, I see Yelp complaints about lack of returned calls, and other office inefficiencies. .
