Sundown has had a bad reputation locally in the past, however I really feel that it is time to 'put the record straight'. Linda, the current owner has worked hard to build a good reputation following years of bad management, she is a genune animal lover who has the dogs best interests at heart. I know this because I recently started transporting pound dogs and Sundown is also used by the council for stray and abandoned dogs. (the strays are kept in a separate block to the boarders) The council will only pay for 7 days boarding which only allows a week for the dog to be claimed. Linda works closely with different animal rescues to find rescue spaces for these dogs. To many pounds in the UK it is just 'business' and the dogs are put to sleep regardless of age or breed when their 7 days are up. Some do not even give rescuers chance to get the dog moved. Linda at Sundown will NOT allow the euthanisation of dogs, even if it means boarding them at her own expense. Many of the dogs I have transported from there are 'over their time' but Linda will keep them until a safe rescue space is secured or will try and rehome them herself. The kennels themselves and grounds are spotlessly clean and theres plenty of space for the dogs, a paddock for free runnng etc. I am currently fostering a 'poundie' dog and I have 2 dogs of my own. I am going to start using Sundown for boarding them when needed as I know that they will be looked after by someone who genuinely cares for the dogs welfare. With reasonable boarding fees, one of the most reputable vets in the area on hand, and grooming facilities, it ticks all the boxes for me. Knowing what I now know I would not hesitate to recommend Sundown kennels. Unfortunately mud sticks! So lets get it cleaned off and give Sundown (and its owners!) the 5 stars it deserves! read more
