And, you can't stop there without buying at LEAST three kinds of their signature fruit pies. My "go to's" are (of course) apple, blueberry and strawberry-rhubarb. Sinfully delicious; every one of them. During the Holidays, the pumpkin pies literally fly off the massive counters, so get 'em when you can. Their pillowy-soft loaves of fresh-baked bread are also a mandatory thing. Sourdough or cinnamon-raisin are my favorites. We also picked up a couple of their great deli sandwiches; made with ingredients from their gardens and bakery. I chose the Country Club, which is a grilled turkey, bacon and Swiss cheese on potato bread. Outstanding! The bread is thick-cut and buttery, crispy. They don't shirk on the ingredients. Plenty of meat-and-cheese-to-bread going on. However, make sure and clear up some mad cash because prices are a bit premium. But the quality and abundance of what they offer is completely worth it - especially when you're only passing by once a year. ....and a long year in between it is....

Sometimes you find gems in the oddest places…read more Lillooet is (almost) in the middle of nowhere, but I wanted to drive the back highway from Vancouver to Kamloops, and by the time we got to Lillooet, it was time for a break. I love exploring eateries, and bakeries most especially. So I see this bakery and it's a no-brainer to visit, but honestly, my expectations were not high at all. Imagine my surprise then when I see quite a selection of items, and a great deal of diversity in the items. (You know how some bakeries seem to offer a bunch of similar items? Like one bakery does a lot of cakes, one does a lot of buttercream topped bars/rolls, etc. Well this one had a nice variety to choose from.) Also surprising were the good prices. Not just because I was in a small, out-of-the-way town, but just really good value. It's been a while since I was there, so I can't remember exactly what I ordered, but I at least got an eccles cake and some sort of chocolate swirl bun plus two other things. I do remember that they were all very good. I'd day that if I found this place in Vancouver, it might be a 4/4.5, but in smaller towns, it's harder to find good stuff, and that's what puts this bakery at 5 stars: good value, good variety, and amazing for out-of-city bakery. I can't find anything half as good in Kamloops.

It wasn't their fault they have no kettle chips, unsweetened ice tea or vanilla creame donuts. In their defense, they don't ship those items out to them. I felt that the coffee was terrific and the maple creame disappeared too fast, indicating an above average quality pastry. There was no line to speak of, the older woman at the windows was very friendly and apologized for the shortcomings. You need to realize when you come here that they are very limited. Don't expect anywhere near the options you could get in the more populated areas. Had I known they have a small restaurant area, I would've went in and given a fuller accounting of the place. My grandmother constantly said that beggars can't be choosers. For most of my childhood I had no idea what she meant. Simply put, people without options, take what you can get. I usually add to that, enjoy what you have. Want more? Go seek it out. 07/22
