Very sad experience and honestly one that felt like racial profiling. I made an appointment a month in advance to bring in a large amount of items for consignment (almost all of them were designer with tags attached). I arrived a few minutes early with my things and stepped away for about 6-8 minutes to use the restroom elsewhere since I was told I couldn't use theirs, which I understood. When I came back, the owner quickly told me she had already looked through everything and didn't want any of it. I was shocked because my things were clearly untouched and I had a suitcase with a number-code lock on it. I asked her twice if she had opened the suitcase, and she said yes, but I was aware that she never actually went through my things at all. I left upset and called the store afterward to confront her. She panicked, kept apologizing, and said she learned a big lesson from this. What is disappointing is that I was judged before I was even given a chance. I couldn't help but feel that my dark hair and brown skin played a role in how I was treated and that assumptions were made about what I may have brought in. No one should walk into a business and feel dismissed or stereotyped like that. I do not recommend consigning or shopping here. read more

Such a lovely place! it's a hidden gem. A lot of the clothes that I looked at averaged from $20-$50 and a lot of the dresses are modest (which is hard to come by nowadays!) the lady that I met was so helpful and gave me some great ideas when I came in and had to leave in a rush. I always find a special piece or 5 .They are selective but curate a nice collection. They have a rack dedicated to fitness clothing which is mostly filled with Lulu. Denim selection is solid as well. The place is small but a gem. read more

Great place. Always find something fun. Shoes, jewelry, jeans, sunglasses, skirt, formal dress, bath suit, workout clothes, purses, jackets, and more. Great brands and the prices are excellent. It takes me more than 40 minutes plus traffic just to drive here. Well worth it. read more

I have been shopping at this place for years, every few months or so. Have bought some items I really liked, so eventually decided to consign some of my own things. Unfortunately, consigned about 15 items and ended up with about $40. When I asked about what clothing had sold, they were unable to tell me and had none of my items! What happened to them??? And how do 15 items equate to $40???? By the way, these were name brand labels, hardly worn, some brand new and all suspiciously "missing" in the store. There's definitely something fishy going on here. I would think long and hard before consigning. I always used to donate all my clothes before this. I plan to donate from now on and you should too. Owner and her employee also mocked a lady who tried to consign some clothes when I was shopping in there. Told her NO and wished her "good luck" in sarcastic tone and laughed after she left. I've shopped consignment for years; I love the model and hate to write a negative review. However, this is the worst I have encountered in three different states. First, but not as importantly, the inventory is lackluster; tried maybe seven times over several years and found one item? But whatever - consignments shops can be hit or miss. No, what makes this shop so off-putting is their customer service. I stopped by last year hugely pregnant, trying to tie up loose ends before the big day. I had only three items to consign, one new with tags. "We sell by appointment only, and we don't have any available for several weeks," smirked the woman, who I believe was the owner. (Mind you, she did not appear to be doing anything, and the one lone customer browsing around was not seeking help.) It was impossible to miss that in "several weeks," I'd be wrangling a newborn. "Really? You can't just take these? You can discard them if you don't want to sell them." Another smirk. "No." (In contrast, at the baby consignment next door, she not only took several items sans appointment, but also took winter items although they were a few days from accepting them - I didn't even ask her to do this, she just offered when she noticed how pregnant I was!) I stopped by Sunflowers over a year later, thinking that surely at 10:30 on a Tuesday they might do a quick buy. I had only TWO ITEMS: both in-season, brand names, new with tags. The store was empty and the employee was sitting there alone. "Sorry, we don't have any appointments until [six weeks out]." Now, while I understand being strict about appointments for large quantities of clothes, I've ***never*** encountered a consignment shop so inflexible that it will not take a small drop off now and then. "Lots of consignment shops are appointment only," she chided smugly, adding, "we've been in business since 1994, so it works for us." Uhhh, maybe that's why you're still a tiny store with a mediocre inventory? And what's with your appointment schedule? Is there only one person who is allowed to do purchases who is also a busy surgeon or something? For the record, there are fantastic consignments shops in the area that don't require appointments and have a better selection! Current Boutique (Bethesda), Reddz (Bethesda), Uptown Cheapskate (Rockville), Clothes Mentor (Columbia), to name a few. I hope this place will reconsider their treatment of customers, because it would be nice to have a more flourishing consignment shop here in Kensington. read more

The owner, Shelley, is one of the nastiest people I have encountered in a retail situation ever. I stopped in to get my check after some of my consignments sold. She wasn't there but an assistant was. I asked what items sold as they don't give you a print out when they give you a check. (Nor do they when you bring things in) The assistant told me the prices of what sold and when I calculated 40% the amount didn't seem right. I asked her to check with Shelly who I was told was our of town. Today, on New Years Eve day, I received an angry phone call from Shelly who immediately loudly accused me of going behind the counter and looking at her computer! What? I could barely get a word in to say I did no such thing. She wouldn't accept that saying it was a matter of perception on the part of me and her worker. Perception? I wasn't behind the counter! Then she said her worker was intimidated by getting a question from a customer. Again, what?! Shelly yelled nonstop barely allowing me to speak. I was in disbelief. Then she hung up on me. yes, that's right, hung up on me. I do not recommend consigning here. If you can't ask what and for how much one of your pieces sold then something is wrong. Her behavior is unprofessional. I've been in retail management for decades so I know when someone is out of their depth. However, if you're in the mood for abuse this is your place. read more

I have been shopping here for years and always find something special. It is very organized so it's easy to find my size quickly. I recently wanted some new clothes for workouts and found some cute Lululemon tops. It's a great way to save money while helping to reuse items in very good condition. read more

I love this cozy, friendly, sunny consignment store. It's tucked away in a small strip shopping mall, next to a flower shop. Parking is readily available. I found out about the store by accident and I consider it a treat every time I drop by. The selection is small but items are carefully selected, in good condition and in good taste. I've never walked out of there without purchasing something. A good mix of unusual clothes and ordinary but useful clothes. Smaller selection of large and x-large, which is unfortunate but all too common in most consignment and thrift stores. The owner is super friendly and honest. She has on several occasions told me that what I tried on didn't fit well. When I was wavering about whether to purchase something, she said "if you hesitate don't buy it because you probably won't wear it." I love this store and encourage people to check it out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Found a brand new Banana Republic dress here with the tags on, that had been marked down three times. It fit comfortably and was flattering for my figure and I knew I could wear it to work. There is cute jewelry here and a good selection of dresses, both casual and professional. Each piece is one of a kind and this is a gem in Kensington. read more

Unexpected find. Nice inventory. I've bought two sweaters that looked brand new for good prices that I now wear regularly. It's become one of my favorite consignments. Plus, if you time it right you can go over to Dish and Dram for a nice drink or meal. read more

This shop is always the first on my list when I need to add or replace items in my day to day wardrobe. I've been shopping here for about 6 years and I almost always find something. My favorite finds have been a like new north face coat and a north face backpack. There's a variety of styles and brands. It is a small shop but that means the selection is well curated. My tip would be to check every few weeks as new stuff goes out every week. read more

I tired to bring in 4 Lily Pulitzer dresses and 1Trina Turk dress. The owner was very rude as soon as I walked in. She immediately told me I needed an appointment, handed me a sheet of paper, told me I needed at least 10 things to bring in and that she couldn't see me for 2 weeks! I don't know how these consignment stores do business. They are typically hard to deal with and the amount of money you get is never worth it. Someone needs to bring on some competition so that these people treat others more respectfully. read more

Owner is disorganized and dishonest. claimed she lost some of my items (sterling silver and other nice jewelry) for nearly a year. I wanted the items back (once the price of silver rose) and I kept calling and she kept saying she was looking for them. One day I went back in and she claimed that she found and sold them, when I clearly told her I wanted the unsold items back. She offered me a paltry check for $24.00. A true rip off. *Edited August 2012* After posting my original review in June, the owner of the store contacted me to clarify the consignment policies and my record with them---while I do still wish that I had a better return on my consigned pieces, I think the hallmark of this small business is the customer service. I just had terrible experience in the store - I was not acknowledged OR let alone greeted at any point in which I was in the store. However, I witnessed the owner and her assistant greet everyone else. As if I were invisible...I believe that the assistant attempted to say a quick "have a nice day" as I was 3/4 out the door...It was disconcerting and disappointing given previous experiences. I have relied on the store for fun, key pieces in my wardrobe over the years, but am not likely to return. read more
