We went on a Saturday morning specifically for the horse racing. No issues getting in. They will search larger bags, but my friend had no issues with a coffee in a clear cup. Races run every 20 minutes or so, so you do not have to be there exactly at the first post time (you'll just miss the first race). The employees are quite friendly and very willing to explain how to place a bet. It's cash only but they have an ATM on site. I would've appreciated a map a little more to see where things are. They have several options for viewing the races! Inside is an auditorium-like setup with multiple races on TVs, facing the outside race track. You can also go watch the race from the finish line side outside. Lastly there are also personal tables/booths with small personal TVs that can be used. There are American food and drink options at the restaurant in the casino. No free drinks here, maybe in the casino area? I'm a little surprised since most other casinos I've been to have had free drinks while you're gambling. We stayed for a few races and made some small bets and had a great time. We visited last night and had a great time! There were a lot of new machines I was excited to play. I actually had the most fun playing roulette. The bartender Drew was very friendly and made great drinks. We got food to go from the Corralito steak house grill to take back to our hotel room. The burger was good. I really liked the empanadas. My other half got steak and chicken tacos. The only downside was not being able to walk around with our drinks. You have to drink them at the bar. read more

This place is as low rent as it gets. I found a wallet on the ground here. Checked the innards for id or identifier. Didn't remove contents. Was approached rudely by security demanding the wallet i found along with my id. Once they determined everything was intact, they gave me a warning. I never attempted to leave the premises with the wallet but was treated as a criminal. On my way back in, two security guards stared me down. This place is a joke. I got treated like a lowlife here as a paying customer. The temperature in the playing area is sweltering, with portable fans and air conditioners doing little to remedy this. Security here knows no tact and instead chooses to bully and escalate instead of staying professional. Avoid this place. read more

We were on El Paso for a few days and stopped by here. It was on a Tuesday so it wasn't busy. The racetrack is what we can here for. The seating inside has big windows with drapes and they do block the few some. The track has a nice feel to it. There are a few different places to seat and some outside standing close to the track. This rating is only for the racetrack as we did not visit the casino. We visited here twice during our stay in Las Cruces to watch the ponies run. The quality of racing was as expected for a track this size. The seating area was clean, there were plenty of programs and tip sheets for sale, there were numerous self-betting machines, and the parimutuel windows that were staffed had friendly and helpful associates. Concessions were limited, but the wings were pretty good, and everything was reasonably priced for food and beer. You can sit inside or go outside to watch the horses cross the finish line. There is smoking allowed but the smoke smell wasn't overpowering. We had two relaxing, enjoyable days at the track at Sunland. read more

I give Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino a high rating because of their GREAT HIGH LIMITS room and their excellent options between old and new slots. I have been to casinos in Arizona and California and I'm shocked that these much bigger casinos have a terrible high limit room compared to Sunland Park, There are a LOT of options of the $5 machines in the High Limit Room at Sunland and they are SINGLE LINE, most casinos nowadays don't have many of any single line slot machines and if you know slot play, those types of machines have lower volatility, I am very impressed by what they offer. read more

I've always came here to listen to the live music, it's always been a great experience. Till yesterday, I believe Myra Herrera was her name was super rude and I felt so discriminated. I took my friend and he took his husband, she said he was too intoxicated to go in, mind you this, we don't drink. I didn't argue with her and just turned around to leave. He did ask her what was the reason she'd assume that and all she said was "because I know". Also she did keep asking us "who's driving". So we went here for our latest OYE! Let me say, great choice by our community leader. This was a blast. Anyone been to Vegas? Anyone been to horse tacks before? Well it's basically an El Paso version of that. Small casino, small track/betting area, small snack stands, but still pretty nice. Decent crowd and decent scenery. There's actually a lake in the middle of the track, very nice touch there Sunland Park. I approve. There were 10 races, 15 minutes apart. Seating was plentiful. Betting (after we figured out how/why/what to bet) was dry easy and convenient. Also cashing in on winning bets was easy and fast. Cash in hand baby... Them Ponys pay off! Overall it was a very fun event and I'll for sure go back to bet again. It's actually free to get in, so if you just want to sit and watch the horses, go ahead. But you can make $2 bets... On 10 races that's only $20. So wen of you lose it all... So what, have a few friends with you and enjoy the company and races and you'll have a good outing and fun day to the tune of $20. Even though I haven't won a jackpot (yet), I always enjoy coming with my family, significant other or by myself. We have a good time playing the slot machines. My favorite slot machines are: the Village People, Dia de los Muertos and Wheel of Fortune (in that order). It's exciting to hit the bonus or get free spins. There are no live table games, only electronic ones. We sometimes watch and bet on horse races from all over the country. I haven't been to the live races yet. If you don't have a babysitter, you can bring the kids to watch the races and/or to eat. They can't go into the casino area. It smells like smoke in there. Another plus is...free sodas and coffee while gambling. The food at the Jackpot Grill is pretty tasty. I recommend the burgers and hot dogs. The French fries also have a good flavor to them. They aren't too salty or stale. The food is made to order. You can get a meal here for under $10. The staff around the casino is pretty friendly overall. I enjoy talking with Charles, the bartender near the Jackpot Grill. He is always friendly and nice to chat with. He's my favorite bartender out of all of them. The people at the front flatter me whenever they ask me for my ID to gamble. They're always polite and tell me and other patrons good luck. Sunland Park usually has free live music on weekends. Went here for a full seven days and lost all seven days losing a couple of thousands and ask the supervisor or manager why are your machines so tight it's not right to have your customers lose all the time. Supervisor or manager got really upset with me and told me to get out or she would call the cops on me and told me I had to leave! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. They forced me to the exit door to the lobby where the supervisor walked out the door and slammed it in my face as I was next to go out! I have her on video committing that assault injuring my arm! I was in total shock after losing all week long and then getting assaulted after being wrongfully attacked! I recorded the entire incident and I'm thinking about pressing charges on that supervisor! read more

DO NOT GO HERE--you will not be given your winnings. Was playing electronic roulette for an hour and a half and FINALLY had a nice hit worth $220. My game screen immediately read "wheel malfunction" as the wheel continued to play the game. The wheel clearly had NOT malfunctioned, but I was rewarded no money for my win. For what it's worth I usually have a fun time whenever I visit Sunland Park Casino and Racetrack, it's definitely not comparable to casinos elsewhere (no table games available but it does reek of cigarette smoke like an authentic Casino), but it's not like we have other options around El Paso. I don't play slot machines, but the blackjack and roulette machines are a pretty fun substitute for the real thing. The casino also has some pretty good promotions with the perks card. The racetrack and OTB get pretty fun during live races and big events like the Kentucky Derby, we had a Yelp event here during the Sunland Park Derby back in the day where we got to see American Pharoah on his way to winning the Triple Crown. read more

In the past few months I've learned quite a lot about horse races and betting thanks to the horse racing guru, Albert K. (I can't be positive about how much his services are, but hire him... you'll leave a master of the horse race betting arts!). Prior to going to the racetrack for a Community Yelp Event I only ever went to Sunland Park for the casino (roulette specifically), but now I feel like horse races might be my thing. Believe it or not, Sunland Park has a Kentucky Derby qualifier race so some of the horses you see here in EP/SP maybe on the big screen for the famous Kentucky Derby. So cool! I really like this racetrack. Sure it could be better, but it's pretty cool for the area. The racetrack is a normal 1-mile track, but I love that the interior is a lake with water features. It's nice to see a good sized body of water being maintained throughout the year. Immediately at the front of the track there's perfectly manicured grass, the big screen that televises the event, and the betting tracker (I'm sure it has a better name then that). All in great condition. You can sit outside or inside and I'm kind of mixed on which is better. It's a pretty awesome experience being so close to the action when you're outside. You can actually go all the way up to the guard rail and watch the horses run their hearts out. But seating outside is limited to a couple of bench seats in the small stands. The seating is about the same as what's available at the El Paso High track. But again, the experience is awesome. Most of the time we actually stayed inside where there's seats that resemble ballpark seating. I like. I think they can actually open up the giant windows that look out onto the track because they appeared (to me anyways) to be more of the giant garage door persuasion than actual windows. The only downside is you're further from the action. But your closer to the betting area. The races ran regularly and I don't think any of them started late so as far as how they run the races, A+. Betting was super easy and was done on computers. I only saw one computer that was down. And I really liked that you could bet on other races happening around the U.S. They even played the other races on TVs inside. Cashing out was a smooth transaction too. I actually liked just about everything about my first experience with the racetrack except the booking a room process and the food. It's f@#king impossible to book out a room for the races unless you physically go in and wait for the people who are in charge of that to come in. They don't have any set hours that they work so you have to continually call in and hope that you get them. Leaving a message leads to nothing. NOTHING. No call back, no response, NOTHING. I even emailed them. Couldn't even get a "The room has already been booked." email back (even though I emailed months in advanced). I wasn't about to wait around at the casino hoping to run into them so I just said 'F@#K IT!' Their loss. The food available at the concessions is God-awful. I'd only recommend the popcorn and a soda because it's popcorn and a soda. The churros tasted like cardboard sprinkled with sugar. Hard pass. All of us agreed the churros were not good. After that I was way to weary to try anything else. Maybe next time I'll give the concessions another go, but I don't have high hopes. I really like Sunland Park Racetrack (and the casino). I'm sure I'll be spending quite a few more days here betting on horses before making my way over to the tables inside. Good place to just have a relaxing and fun weekend. We just returned home from a three night stay. The faculty looks good . However, it is the first Hotel I have ever stayed at that does not offer you any drawers to put your clothing in. There was a large blank wall where you would think a dresser would be located. When I called the front desk and asked I was told they do not offer drawers to put your clothing in? However they could get a couple of valets for us to put our suitcases on. Meaning you really can't unpack for three days you have to live out of your suitcase. Also the closet is not long enough to hang a long dress so I had to hang that on the mirror in the room. What I am most upset by is that my husband and I are on our way home noticed that we both had bites that were very itchy on our arms, hand and backs. This Hotel has bed bugs and now we need to be treated and be certain we haven't contaminated our home. read more

I'm so upset right now. I called last week to make a reservation for this weekend just to get a $100 voucher for the stay and play promo. When I check in today the front desk told me that I'm not eligible for a voucher since the promo is not in effect today! so to make the long story short the person that book my reservation screw me up, front desk is telling me they give the wrong information. The place stank of smoke so badly that I could only stand 10 minutes and had to leave, even in the supposed non-smoking areas. No alcohol allowed on the casino floor (state law). I walked over to the race track side, even though nothing was running today, and the racetrack side looked nice. Nice layout and nice view of the track. Didn't try any food or drinks. I came for a class reunion and stayed because it is a nice place. I'll be honest, the entry way stunk with cigarette smoke but was gone after we got inside. The facility is nice and clean and the staff is wonderful. A great group of very helpful people. I don't bet but it was a blast to see all the screens showing everything. I could have sat there all day long. We had drinks one night and they were great. The next night was a buffet and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. All in all it is a very nice place. When it first opened we had a lot of fun and you were able to enjoy a cold beer while playing on the old time Slots. Now you can't drink a cold beer in the Casino area. They are removing all the old time Reel Slot machines. I don't mind the new video games but it's something the old reel games that bring excitement. They are being removed so now I don't go as often. Yes, four stars for Sunland Park Racetrack, but with caveats. First, lets dispense with the notion that this is a casino. It is not. It is a glorified slot-machine parlor. No table games, no dice, just slots. But, thankfully, the slots keep the racetrack alive because without the added dollars from the chain-smokers pumping their social security checks into those stupid machines, horseracing would be dead. At least in New Mexico. Just contrast Sunland Park with Albuquerque which has no slots. See? A day at Sunland Park can entertain almost anybody, regardless of means. You can pay nothing (free parking, free admission) and sit in the grandstand. Or you can pay $7 and sit in the Turf Club. A pretty good deal either way. Also there are private suites for about 10 people that don't cost anything per se, but they do require consumption of $200 in food and bev. Most people I know spill that much. Betting is either with a flesh and blood teller (ok, some of them look bloodless, but you get my drift), tote machines, or if you are in the Turf Club they come and take your bets at your table. Don't have a lot of money? Throw $1 into the tote machine and bet the $0.10 Superfecta. So it's fun, and the beer is cold. They have full bars. You dont have to go far to get a drink if that's important to you. Now to the food. I have eaten in the restaurant and the Turf Club. Be careful, it's extremely salty which is not a bad thing until the veins in your temples start to throb so much you scare the waitress. The burgers in the grandstand are pretty good. I can't vouch for the buffet. Hate buffets. Anyway, if you want to spend a nice afternoon (there are no night races, they tried them but the horses tripped and fell down since they don't have lights either) head over to the track. Sit outside and enjoy the weather, or suck up the smoke in the grandstand, or play like high roller and sit in the Turf Club. Oh, and wear a cowboy hat. read more

I've stayed at the hotel and ate at the Ventanas restaurant inside the casino several times, and I can honestly say I only eat at the restaurant so I can use the $25 voucher that is given to me for my stay at the hotel. The food is not great and the service is terrible, there is always only one waitress and he/she hardly ever comes around to check on us. I don't think it's worth eating for free and I don't think I'll be having breakfast there anymore. read more
