They are very professional, and friendly. The clinic is always clean, the rooms are clean too. We had to put our doggie down and they were so understanding. They understood that Shadow was a member of our family and made sure we had time to process the whole procedure and say goodbye at our time. It's still so hard to deal with him not being here but Palmdale Vet helped us get through it. I recently moved to the Antelope Valley and was looking for a veterinarian closer to home. After reading Yelp reviews, Palmdale Veterinary Hospital seemed like the best choice based on its high ratings and positive feedback. Over the past two months, I've been here approximately 6-7 times with our three dogs for exams, vaccines, and an unexpected surgery for my mom's dog, whom I also recommended to this hospital. The surgery itself went well, and the cost was actually very reasonable considering the procedure. Unfortunately, my experience with the customer service has been consistently disappointing. The wait times have been long at nearly every visit. I understand that emergencies happen, but what concerns me more is how clients are treated by the front office staff and office manager. They often come across as dismissive, lacking compassion, and sometimes even condescending. Instead of simply relaying information, they sometimes seem to offer medical explanations that should really come directly from the veterinarian. When I asked to speak with the veterinarian to clarify questions about my dog's care, I was repeatedly routed through several staff members before getting any answers. That process was frustrating and unnecessary. After my mom's dog's surgery, I expected a little more compassion and guidance. Instead, it felt like we were rushed out the door. We received only limited explanations about medications, dosing schedules, and post-operative care. The focus seemed to be on scheduling the next appointment rather than making sure we understood how to care for our pet at home. When we asked why another appointment was necessary, the only explanation given was, "The doctor said so." During one visit, while waiting for my pet, there were three employees at the front desk, yet no one acknowledged me for about 20 minutes. Even after finally checking in, I continued waiting without any updates. Because this has happened repeatedly over multiple visits--not just once--I don't believe these are isolated incidents. The veterinarians appear knowledgeable, and the pricing has been fair. However, the front office is often the first and last interaction clients have, and unfortunately, it leaves a negative impression. I genuinely hope management addresses the customer service experience because I would like to continue bringing my pets here. As it stands, though, I am considering taking my business elsewhere unless I see meaningful improvement. read more

Front desk will treat you with disdain from beginning to end. Doctor will avoid looking you in the eye. Assistant will give you an estimate for a procedure, but the final price is an increase of 50%. They all know what they are doing. I won't go back, ever. read more

I feel they forget that there are other providers in th AV. If you like having staff treat you like your money isn't good enough for their professionalism, this is the place for you. This is my 2025 update of Palmdale Veterinary Hospital after originally writing my first review in 2018. Although I will be forever grateful to Dr. McEwan for prolonging the life of the bird pictured following a medical emergency, my surviving budgie, of the same age, nearly died prior to Christmas the same week our entire household got sick. (Not sure what we had but it was not COVID or flu; the tests came back negative. Still it seems rather too coincidental that even our bird came down sick the same week.) Without really knowing what we were treating my bird ended up on an antibiotics that made him agitated and nauseous (Baytril). After reporting the situation I was advised by a vet tech here to keep my bird on it, having not been given the option of an anti-nausea medication. When it became clear he was actually going downhill faster than the treatment I began to keep him alive over the weekend before they could take him in for a visit (Doxycycline), I made the judgment call to switch him back. That once again had some stabilizing effect but not completely. However, by then it was the Christmas break and my bird was still not better so my bird ended up at another avian vet out of the area on an emergency basis at the suggestion of a family member who is a small animal vet. However, there my bird was not diagnosed either. (To the credit of Palmdale Animal Hospital they did not try to suggest I do X-rays, lab work and several other tests I can't recall at the moment all in the same visit. Even the trauma of having that much testing can put a sick bird over the edge.) Both doctors seemed to be of the same mindset about my bird's prognosis. Dr. McEwan pointed out that budgies are prone to cancer. And the other avian vet suggested it was "geriatric bird syndrome". My gut told me it was neither. I have owned mostly small birds for over 40 years and knew something was wrong with the crop or digestive system. At first I thought it was a physical obstruction -- eating bits of sticks out of millet or perhaps the millet itself was bad -- but the more I watched antibiotic treatment get him to the point where he was somewhat better but never completely better, the more I felt that something was missed. In the end I spent a very sizable amount of money between the two offices and yet had to rely on observation of symptoms, a heavy amount of research and ultimately a bird supply for medication to treat Canker (parasitic illness) in January. Only then did my bird bounce back and begin to act like his boisterous, energetic self. I can't help but think if I owned a larger or more expensive bird maybe a diagnosis would have been possible (or the effort to do so). In fairness, small birds can be particularly challenging -- although not impossible. (I had some excellent avian care from Norco and Corona when I lived elsewhere.) I am glad I finally found a solution, I just wished I could have helped him sooner as he very nearly died and was sick to some degree or another for the better part of two months. About a week ago my bird was back here for clipping of the nails but my spouse informed me Dr. McEwan was in and out so fast that it wasn't possible to update him on what finally worked (ronidazole). Maybe he expected the bird to die or maybe he forgot? Having said this, avian vets are so far and few between that I am grateful one exists in the AV area. I hope when Dr. McEwan retires he will have trained his replacement because the AV area without an avian vet would be a horrible outcome for owners of companion birds. read more

EXTREMELY disappointed with the staff working the front desk today Saturday 11/29/2025 around 10:15 am. They were so dismissive with me and never properly checked my dog in (the woman with the black hair) which had me waiting a lot longer than I should. Yes, one bad encounter like this will make you lose customers. Today was the last time I take my dogs here and we have been coming for many many years. And to top it off I was told I was gonna get a discount on the visit and when the lady checked me out I didn't see the vet visit discount. I decided not to bring it up. I have brought many animals to this vet over the years, my family has brought many animals, I have recommended them countless times, including $250 in antibiotics just a week ago for a stray. At that appointment, my vet tech was rude and then when cashing out, I was brushed off by the manager so she could continue a little giggle session with someone off to the side, and I was called after leaving to confirm my meds because they thought they gave me the wrong ones. Typically though, the vets are fantastic, the techs are friendly, the front desk is slow but functional. I called to get 3 of my dogs rabies vaccinations. Confirmed cost, booked appointments, was told $20 each. I have to carry my reactive, anxious Malinois, who is twice my size, into my car, drove 35 minutes, took the day off of work. My father drives with the two other dogs 35 minutes and took the morning off of work, just to get this done. I am asked if I have their vaccination records- no, I wasn't informed I needed them. Then I'm told there's a separate exam fee that's going to run the two youngest $22.50 and my senior dog $44.50 on top of the $20 shots. I wasn't informed of this either. I connected with the vet to book the appointments and to confirm the appointments MULTIPLE TIMES and still was not informed of any fee other than the $20. I ask to speak to the manager, she sits there and listens to my frustrations which I do appreciate because I was very angry. Now what I'm thinking is maybe they'll waive the fees considering I wasn't told and now we're looking at more than 135% increase to what I thought I would pay. What I do not appreciate is, as a manager, you assume full responsibility for your staff. You do not get to blame "the new girl" for your negligence in training and find no resolution. And it surely does not fall on me that she wasn't trained properly. If she doesn't feel she can ask questions, it is because she feels unsafe around the staff. If she doesn't know the answer to things yet, she needs to be babysat until she does. Telling me the reason for this negligence was "I spoke to the new girl" doesn't get me my day of PTO back, doesn't give me my $6.50 a gallon gas back, and it doesn't get my dogs the vaccinations they needed. I ask for a card to contact whoever is above the manager, she says "there's no one, I'm the manager." Hey, okay well who signs your paycheck because I need their number. She refused to give me a higher ups contact info. I'm assuming this is privately owned, I want their phone number. Refused. read more

I was looking for exotic vets in the AV to check up on my bearded dragon Draco. I was asking around many places and they didn't know what fecal test is and they charge a lot for basic check (180$) to weight the dragon and listen to his heartbeat. I was referred to Palmdale Vet. I am totally satisfied with my visit. The dr is very knowledgeable and he makes sure that my dragon's setup and diet are correct. Really like this veterinary group. I've brought both my dogs and my parents' dogs here and never had a bad experience. Dr. Wong is a really nice vet. He was treating my old boy, who unfortunately ended up passing away. He was clear to me about the potential outcomes and didn't try to push any expensive treatments and services, knowing it would likely be futile. Once my dog passed, he sent out a card to us, sharing his condolences, which I thought was lovely and really kind. I've only met Dr. Harvey once, but he also seems nice. this was not my first visit to this clinic. I have taken two of my other birds here so I felt comfortable bringing my two new rescue birds. I do regret that now. After leaving the vet, I lost both my birds within a couple of hours. Admittedly one of them did have a respiratory issue which I got antibiotics for, but my other bird was not sick at all. I feel the treatment provided to both caused too much stress and resulted in my babies deaths. This was the first time the avian Vet didn't talk to me about treatment beforehand. I am devastated, saddened and angry. This shouldn't have happened, so I write this review to ask who ever takes their pets there to be vocal if you don't think it's necessary or appropriate. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE! I think Dr. McEwan may have forgotten that we are paying him for a service. I have seen him for my dogs a few times and usually he is great. This last visit he was so unprofessional and basically nasty. I was shocked and even the vet tech stood there looking down at the floor obviously embarrassed by his behavior. I took my dog there several times and saw a different Dr. who was wonderful. She wasn't getting better and the Dr recommended a Rhinoscopy that required her to be put under anesthesia. I trusted Dr. McEwan for his care in the past and made an appointment with him for a second opinion just to be safe before I proceeded with the recommended procedure. BIG MISTAKE! I'm not sure if this is what made him so angry or if he was having a terrible day. Either way it's not ok to ever behave this way with anyone. He told me she did not need the Rhinoscopy the other Dr. recommend. He went on to accuse me of never having her teeth cleaned ( she has had them cleaned ) and said thats what she needed. He went as far as asking me if I had my own teeth cleaned. I have never seen a medical professional behave this way and I have worked in a hospital for 25 years. After finding a different vet guess what, it was not her teeth. She is much better now. Dr McEwan should be given a rabies shot and put in a kennel until he learns to behave professionally. He should not be around people let alone animals. It's really too bad for this business owner as you lost a customer based solely on unprofessionalism. My parents, my sister, and my cousin who I recommended to your veterinarian hospital will also not be returning for care. read more

Just want to say I'm grateful I came here they popped up on Google when I was urgently finding a place to take my dog who was very ill. First I stopped at Mission Animal Hospital. Let's just say don't go there. But here I was grateful they immediately treated my baby girl a black German Shepard and I could tell they were actually concerned and were properly staffed unlike the other hospital and also knowledgeable on my dog and her needs. Unfortunately it was too late for her but they were so kind to refund me the medication as she passed hours after that so they were never used. As well as Dr. Harvey who was so kind and in trying to figure out what was wrong. Which he was right about! He ALSO called me after finding out my dog passed to express condolences which I found to be so amazing and above and beyond !! I've come here since my first pet (a pound rescue) as a child and have continued to come for the past 24 years. Dr. Lynn McEwan has always been kind to me, my parents and all my dogs who have come here. I've always appreciated and respected him as a doctor and have appreciated his empathy and kindness towards his patients, my fur babies. Every time I call I get happy when I get Dawn, she's on point and so educated, kind, she's great and always answers all my questions and I feel comfortable having my fur babies come here.
