We called them to hold a frame for us to buy and spoke to Zuliekha. We were told that they would hold the frame. We contacted them on the day and the day before and were told they had the frame. They then mysteriously sold the frame which we know is an inside job. This is unprofessional and goes on to show how evil the office manager is who would blatantly lie like that. These people are crooks because they discounted the frame and when we showed interest and being out of State had someone try to come pidck them up, an employee probably the officer manager decided to buy fo herself and tarnish the company's reputation. Great experience here. I generally hate getting my eyes examined because my insurance sucks and I generally need to go to places (that shall remain nameless) that treat you like you are wasting their time. The doctor here was very thorough and patient. She was able to discuss my options and also listened to my feedback and concerns. The people at the front are very nice and helpful. There was good communication as to follow up steps, etc. They were able to explain my insurance set up and options and I didn't feel like I was being given a sales pitch or overcharged, like I have at other places. They do a lot of things via email like emailing prescriptions, receipts. I actually love this because it's one less paper for me to manage. There was also easy online scheduling for my first appointment. Their hours aren't the best for working people (no weekend hours) so it might be difficult for some people to get appointments here. read more

The doctor here is excellent- really worked with me to find a prescription that worked well for me and I'm appreciative of that. I purchased a year of contacts in order to get a rebate. I paid in full for the contacts. I got the contacts (one box was damaged), I went ahead and called them about this and they said they would order me a new one. A week later I call in about the box- they said its here. Then one of the workers said I owed money. The day I purchased my contacts I sat with them for 30 minutes while they figured out my insurance coverage and what I was owed. Even if a mistake was made, I shouldn't have to call for my new box and be told this. As the business, it is your responsibility to call me and say you misquoted the cost. This left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be going back. read more

I see several positive reviews here- which made me think I would have the same. It started out that way- but when the progressives did not work for me after about 6 weeks of trying to adjust my eyes- the experience became very unfortunate. The office manager was professional and thorough-- but I felt pressure to make the progressives work (I have only worn readers for about 2 yrs prior to this). I felt a sense that they didn't seem to believe they weren't working for me. It was VERY hard to use them- I tried for days. The 2nd try through the lab they use for lenses did not work (tried again for a week)- since this was my 1st time wearing glasses- I needed a full refund- (as my insurance - I can only get 1 pair a year- and new frames every 2 years) The manager informed me that there are no refunds- only exchanges, and it was written everywhere in the 'fine print', that is was made very clear- and then pointed to a sign on her desk that stated this fact (that I couldn't see since I didn't have my readers handy). For as thorough as she was on how to use progressives, etc-- she could have verbally made it more clear- especially since I was a 1st timer using my eye insurance- knowing would not get to have another pair for 1 year. I demanded to be refunded- after several tries of hearing 'sorry it was in the fine print' - then she finally agreed to call insurance and they agreed to a refund. I came in to get refunded (when not working the 10a-6p hours are tough)- and because I had a different card (the last one I used was lost/stolen) it was a big problem, (even tho I had emailed two weeks prior to refund of this issue). The manager was a bit frustrated - I was a problem now-- the doctor did not say hello or apologize- she stayed quiet in the back while they discussed how to resolve. Finally they gave me a check. I got home and realized my new card had been charged for the glasses- not refunded (of course in error- but still - another problem). It is still pending with chase bank- of course I had to call about this- and the manager said 'sorry we have no transactions, we didn't charge etc etc'. I even sent the screen shot from my bank- to 'prove' I was charged. She finally agreed to call- but not until I again put up a big fight for it to be corrected. I will admit I got highly frustrated and was not pleasant to deal with-- but only when I got frustrated and complained severely- it was resolved, when i tried to be calm and reasonable- nothing was done. I imagine after awhile I will get the credit for $289 for the refund, but I was so shocked at how unfortunate the experience went after the glasses did not work, and how hard I had to work at getting the situation corrected (with the glasses and now the additional charge to my card). Very very disappointed- warning for those with new prescriptions-- if the glasses don't work-- you may have to wait a year or whatever restrictions your insurance has- for a new pair (which is about $850 in full for their basic frames with progressive lens). read more

I accompanied my partner to Sunny Eye Shop because there was something wrong with his glasses. We both live in Queens now, but he makes the trip to Sunny Eye Shop because he used to live in Greenpoint and tells me their customer service is always above and beyond. Well, he was right. While I was there - I asked one of their technicians if she could replace the nose pads on my glasses as I haven't replaced them in over a year... well let me tell you... the technician's name is Zuleika Barrios... Zuleika went over above and beyond in replacing my nose pads! She selected these very cushiony and comfortable nose pads, went out of her way to meticulously clean the ENTIRE glasses: lenses, frames, hinges, ear pieces. I sat right in front of her and watched her thoroughly and caring-fully clean and repair my glasses. When she was done, my glasses were like brand new! I asked if I had to pay for her services and she said "no, it's okay. We don't charge for small fixes like this". While I lived in Texas the eye glass shop I used to go to would charge for a service like that. I insisted that I pay or at least tip her for her service, but she refused. Needless to say - I just finally got a full time offer from my job and I will be using my new fully paid for free premium vision insurance at Sunny Eye Shop in October 2019. My partner was right - so worth commuting an hour from Queens just for their services. read more

Do yourself a favor, and never go anywhere else for glasses ever again. In 2018, I was going through my normal ritual of trying to get new glasses at all the wrong places. Sears....lenscrafters....warby. Just don't. Sunny changed the entire experience for me. Their staff is incredible, and the products they sell are high quality and look amazing. I'm not even saying it's just the frames... the difference in quality of the lenses is vastly noticeable. You'll never go back to the other places, and you'll wish you found this one sooner! If we all survive this year of hell, let's rally around this gem of a small business! I think they've started to reopen post 'rona. Oh, and if you have any issues with your eyewear, just walk in. I have been visiting Sunny Eye Shop and Dr. Shoaib for two years now, and I find her to be a professional woman and small business owner, and I'm happy to give her my business. She uses updated technology for the eye exam, and thoroughly explains the health of my eyes to me. She also offers frames in a range of prices, and she and her assistant are helpful when recommending lenses and frames for your face that fit your budget. This is actually super helpful because even though I like a lot of different styles, and know what doesn't work on my face, Dr. Shoaib and her assistant recommended styles based on factors I hadn't thought of (like how glasses should frame the eyes, and how the color can enhance your skin tone and face shape). But perhaps the nicest thing about having Sunny Eye Shop in the neighborhood is that if your glasses start slipping off of your face, you can drop in and have Dr. Shoaib adjust them. This has only happened to me once, and I was glad to have her in the neighborhood! read more

If you're in network they work directly with your insurance (ie no filing claims and you get the benefits automatically applied when you checkout). They have a good selection of glasses & sunglasses and can order you a specific style/color from any brand they carry even if they don't have that exact sample in store. I got my contact eye exam done here & ordered a years supply directly through them (after insurance & rebate, their price was better than ordering online elsewhere). I had a great experience at Sunny Eye Shop across all parts of my appointment. The office was cute and comfortable, and the woman who checked me in and performed the preliminary tests (I didn't catch her name) was super friendly. Dr. Shoaib was calm, detail-oriented and thorough, explaining everything and helping me figure out what lenses were right for me. Lastly, Zuleika was clear and patient about my bill, giving me time to process the math and ask questions during a part of the appointment that I am often apprehensive about being rushed through. There's severe malpractice in this shop's business decisions. I had a very poor experience here compared to three other doctors I've seen over last 8 years. -I was given brand specific prescription which means I can use my prescription for one brand only. Further consultation is needed if I change brand. Prescription for contacts should NOT be specifying brand. This is a bad business practice. - I was required to go in for two visits just for a routine eye exam and prescription. This practice is again a bad business decision. - I was told I must to do additional exams that are not part of the required routine eye. As per my insurance policy, I can choose to opt out of that enhancement exam. This increased my co-pay by $39 read more

I went to Sunny Eye Shop yesterday (07/03/20) to get my prescription updated and my glasses lenses replaced. Zuleika and Dr. Shoaib were extremely professional when it came to COVID regulations, which made me feel at ease! I was the only one in the shop during the exam and each machine was sanitized before being used. Zuleika was so friendly and professional throughout the initial tests and explained my bill with detail. Dr. Shoaib happily answered all my questions and was extremely professional throughout the exam. I will definitely be returning to Sunny Eye Shop when I need to update my contact lens prescription! I really really wanted to love Sunny Eye Shop. I really did. It is disappointing that my experience was not the greatest. The shop itself is very cute, with an amazing selection of glasses. The music was on point also. Dr. Shoaib was super sweet and this was the most enjoyable experience I've ever had at any doctor. However, that's about as positive as it got for me. I was very straight forward about not wanting to spend a ton and that I was only there to use up my insurance for the year. I was talked into doing an extra eye exam (somehow not covered by insurance), as well as buying lenses that were clearly out of my price range. I have almost perfect vision, so I definitely did not need to be up-sold. Currently, I have 2 different vision insurance plans. Unfortunately, Dr. Shoaib was not aware of VSP and Cigna being two different insurance plans..When I called to discuss this with the doctor, I was not received with understanding or warmth. I went there on a Tuesday and was told my glasses would be ready by Thursday/Friday. I never heard back and went there Saturday, to be told my glasses weren't ready. I had to request for the glasses to be shipped to me, and did not get them until the following Friday. I also never received the "free drink" vouchers for Enid's that are promised to customers. Overall, if you do not want to spend a ton of money, I would not recommend going here. If you are v rich, I think that this is the place to go. Sunny Eye Shop, I think better communication and listening to your customers would go a long way. read more

Had a great experience getting an exam and buying new glasses here recently. Everyone I worked with was friendly and helpful--really top notch service. The exam was smooth, with all new technology and no need for dilation or anything. I was even able to see footage from my retinal scan within minutes. The selection of glasses is definitely on the higher-end but they feel like quality pieces, not just overpriced Luxottica stuff. There is a wide range of manufacturers, styles, and materials. I spent time "interviewing" a number of frames, and the whole team was very helpful in narrowing down to a final selection. The lenses were cut in-house by the optician, Zuleika, and were ready within a week. Everything looked great upon pickup. I even dropped off my previous pair of glasses for a hinge repair, and they were fixed promptly and successfully. The overall price I was quoted was a bit higher than I had expected when I walked in, but I did choose a lot of lens add-ons and an expensive frame. If price is a major concern I would be very direct about it. I had a budget in mind for just the frames, and the team was very good about showing me options within that range. I may need to swing back for an adjustment of my new frames, but everything else has been very seamless and a great experience. I don't think I'll need new glasses again for a good while, but I would come back to Sunny Eye Shop for the next pair! read more

I went in to Dr. Shoaib with what I thought was going to be a scratched cornea. I had put a contact back in my eye weeks earlier, slept with it in, and low and behold woke up with a swollen and irritated eyeball. Complete idiotic move on my part, but Dr. Shoaib was so kind and understanding when she realized how worried I really was. A short exam (and no wait) later and I was all set to go with an eye drop prescription (for what turned out to be an infection--EEK) and the recommendation to check-in again in a few days to make sure the infection was healing properly. I will be making my way over there for that check-up sometime this week! In terms of cost I paid my usual $30 co-pay, and Doc even asked if "that was all right by me" (which was a really compassionate gesture in this world of insurance company robberies). read more

If your like me, you are easily overwhelmed with picking out frames. This shop has some really cool options along with classic looks. The optician Zuleika was super helpful and recommend a variety of flattering frames at different price points. I've received so many compliments on my Mykita frames and they are honestly the most comfortable I've ever had! My eye exam by Sunny was thorough, and I left with samples of a new contact lens for dry eyes. Overall this is a really great shop if you want cool glasses and need help picking frames. Keep an open mind, try some frames outside of your comfort zone you might be pleasantly surprised. read more

5 stars for service, professionalism and being friendly Sunny Eye Shop in Green Point Brooklyn was the perfect place for a guy like me. Allowing a Dr to examine me for abnormalities and sitting there while they tell me their findings is awful. Dr. Saniya Shoaib listened to my concerns about my eyes and my fears about the process. She made me feel very comfortable and explained exactly what would happen during the examination. The staff at Sunny Eye were also great. I couldn't find my health insurance card but they took the time to figure out if my health plan included their shop. This was key for me. If they required the card I would have used that as an excuse to not get an eye exam. :) Turns out I do need glasses but over all my eyes are healthy. I'm glad that I found Sunny Eye because they have a wide selection of glasses including standard styles and more fashion forward options. read more

I hadn't been to an optometrist in years because I knew I had 20/20 vision. Thing is glaucoma has appeared in my family so I wanted to get that checked out. I chose sunny eye shop because of her description on Zocdoc--she's into fashion and medicine and so made her own eyeglass shop! How cool is that!? Long story short I'm ecstatic I chose to come here. She's extremely knowledgeable, easy going, honest, and relatable--like I'd be down to get drinks with her after an eye appointment but I didn't wanna be weird so I didn't ask. Her shop has a wide arrange of cute, hip and fun eyeglass frames, and she helps you pick the ones that look best on you by giving her honest opinion and focusing entirely on you. I appreciated her being patient with me as I can be indecisive when I don't have a friend with me. 3/11/16: Before I thought this business just made an honest mistake, but now reading their responses here I'm not so sure. When I get home I'll look for the original bill which shows what I was originally charged and the updated bill that shows the higher price later on so I can post them here. If it wasn't a mistake by this office, then I would have been given the older (cheaper) contact lens versions when I came to pick them up & all would have been well. But problems arose because they correctly ordered the newer contacts I asked for (or how could I pick them up??), but billed me for the older ones (their mistake). If they had just apologized and taken responsibility for the mistake, I would have given them the benefit of the doubt and never bothered writing a review. ========== 3/4/16: What you wrote in your response is patently false. I did not get angry when you asked my name, I can't remember names myself so why would I get angry about that? As for the refund, I never asked you to refund my copay for the exam, I asked you to refund the amount I overpaid for the contact lenses after I returned an entire unopened box of contacts at the higher price. I only suggested in my review here that waiving the copay was an option since you were not in any way open to offering a discount on the contacts. I mentioned multiple times while I was there that it didn't seem right to raise the price after the fact. All you did was blame the person who works for you & kept saying she charged me for the older version of those contacts. When I said I might have made a different decision on the type of contacts I ordered if I'd known the higher price, all you said was: "I ordered you extra trial pairs," which is something all my eye doctors have done & it costs you nothing. You had at least 5-10 minutes to offer a discount or any kind of "make good" for your office's mistake, but never did. If you had been open to offering a discount on the contacts, then you would have at some point, like when I returned the 3rd box. You only refunded me the minor overpayment on the contacts after I specifically asked for it & you were initially confused by the request (makes sense, this isn't a common situation), but your first response was to say I only lost out on a few dollars of insurance coverage, not to notice I'd paid anything above that. An honest oversight, but it doesn't inspire confidence in your billing system. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by Sunny Eye Shop. I didn't schedule an appt and just walked in to see if they could possibly see me - they squeezed me in without a long wait. The doctor, Sunny, was very thorough with the eye exam. She turned me on to daily contacts and was really patient with me while I tried different samples out over the course of a few weeks. I have dry eyes so I really need contacts that retain a lot of moisture. So she let me use a few samples to see what worked best for me. It was nice to know that I could try them out before committing. Especially considering the price of dailies. I wondered at the time why it took me so long to try them out then I remembered that daily contacts are WAY more expensive than the monthly contacts I was using. But honestly, it's totally worth it (my insurance does cover a portion of the cost). I would be curious to know if they match the 1800contacts price, which is pretty common with some eye shops. Sunny is very friendly and willing to work with you and your insurance. My fiance came in at the same time as me to get glasses for the first time. His insurance didn't cover much, but they seemed to offer very reasonable prices regardless. While I'm in the area, I will definitely keep going back! read more

I scheduled my eye exam appointment and filled out the questionnaire on ZocDoc, which sped up the paperwork process at the office. The space at Sunny Eye Shop is very well designed with modern and trendy looking furniture, and a lot of natural light source. There's also plenty of space to move around and try on the different styles of glasses/frames. They have a wide variety of frames to chose from and the staff is super friendly and helpful picking up a frame that fits your face. Dr Shoaib appears to be very knowledgeable in her field. She is a very skilled optometrist and accurate at measuring your eyesight with a great ease. She explained everything clearly, and yet the exam seemed to go very quickly. She is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable. She's not only a great doctor but a great person. Extremely professional and friendly place that made my appointment enjoyable! Dr Saniya is awesome! I made my appointment in ZocDoc because their office is near my apartment. Amanda and Dr Saniya were very friendly from the get go and my appointment started right on time. I went in for a regular check up and decided to try contacts. I had been to at least 3 doctors who all said I couldn't wear contacts for one reason or another. Dr Saniya was able to get the contacts in my eyes and taught me how to do it myself. Being a first time user it took me forever and I even had to go back to keep trying but she was always patient and always had a new tip to help me get the contacts in. I highly recommend Sunny Eye shop if you live in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint area. read more

When I needed new glasses, I decided to make an appointment here after reading a bunch of horror stories about the chains like Lenscrafters being rude and unhelpful, scamming you into spending more than you need, refusing to give you your prescription when the exam is done, etc etc. And I'm glad I did! Sunny was friendly, helpful, and professional. Every step of the process was nice and easy, and I had no trouble making an appointment within a week, rather than having to wait for weeks on end when I needed new glasses. The exam itself was thorough and high quality - she came up with the exact same prescription that my last eye doctor found for me a few years earlier, which is a good sign. If she had given me a totally different prescription I would have been a little concerned. After the exam when I said that I wanted to shop around for frames and asked for my prescription, they gave it to me with no questions asked. And then later when I had an issue with the lenses I bought elsewhere, Sunny brought me in to give me another look and helped me adjust to them. Overall I am a very satisfied customer and will definitely be back for my next exam. read more
