I've been going to Luxeye for more than 10 years and my experiences there have been stellar, so I thought I should really leave a review. I originally went to Luxeye Gramercy Park but after they closed, I was loyal enough to go to W'burg because they are that good. It's extremely easy to get to, steps away from the first L stop in Brooklyn. Why are they so great? They have a big staff but everyone is extremely extremely nice. I saw Kathleen Aoyagi for ages and she was awesome, but recently moved - I liked that she messaged her patients and told us about the change. My new optometrist (who isn't new at the store, she's been there for awhile) was really good at my first contact len/glasses check, too. They are careful about encouraging you to get a full opthamalogist check if you need it. They always tell me about rebates available for my yearly contact lens order and offer specials and discounts - sometimes by email, sometimes at time of purchase (my last purchase of a year of contacts came with a month of contacts free, which is a lot of value), and they always ship me my contacts to my house for free (you have to ask). They have a really good selection of frames, and I've gotten 2 pairs over the years, both excellent quality. They haven't tried to upsell me on some kind of special useless coating the way my last eye shop (at costco lol) did. They also have a selection of sunglasses that are kinda tempting, as I'm a sunglasses sucker. :) Overall they're just an extremely good business that I'm happy to stay loyal to, and I really recommend them. I always leave there smiling because they are so friendly (how often can you say that after a medical appointment?) and go get myself a slice of pie at the bakery on the way to the L. read more

I've been seeing the optometrist here for 4 years. The doctor just recently changed, but the service is still kind and efficient. It's very easy to make an appointment online. I'd been procrastinating having my eyes examined for months due to Covid. Looked up affordable places near me to avoid taking mass transit during a pandemic and this place popped up with good reviews. I was running late. Totally mortified and felt terrible. They were very sweet and understanding. My exam was thorough and quick. Doctor was super nice and professional. I left with a pair of contacts to test out before committing to a years supply. The glasses selection is great. They said they'd be ready to pick up in a week (normal) I got a text two days later informing me that my glasses were ready to pick up! (Unheard of!) Icing on the cake, the total cost of eye exam, contacts, and new glasses came in 100 dollars cheaper then my old optometrist's office! I'll be coming back here from now on! Quick, on time, easy eye exam. I haven't had one since I was a child. I had Dr Kathleen Aoyagi she was brilliant- super chill, explained everything. Lady at the front desk I believe her name is Anne is lovely and kind. My high end glasses broke. First I went to the shop where I bought them, they suggested to use some glue to fix them. I went to Luxeye, they fixed them without ten minutes, and didn't want any money for it. Of course I bought my next pair of Thom Browne glasses there, great experience all around! read more

This has been my best experience at an optical, ever! I have been to a few mom & pop's retailer that charge an extra $100 over retail or more for their frames. I've also been to a few mass retail opticals which were fine with the exception the I feel that they try to sell you options that you may not need and are extremely competitive with their co-workers to get you to purchase frames and add-on that may not be necessary. This is the case for me since I only really use glasses due to long hours in front of my computer screen. Back to my experience at Luxe Eye Optical, they set me up with an appointment the next day. I went in a few minutes earlier than my scheduled time, registered with the girls at the front and they adjusted my sunnies and cleaned them while I waited for my appointment time. I was called in exactly at my appointment time. The optician was extremely down to earth but professional. She asked about my optical history and explained every part of the exam along the way. I picked out my frames (already had set my eyes on a specific pair of Chanel's) they had a nice selection of high end brands to choose from such as Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior, Ray Ban, Persol and Celine. They also carry frames that are budget friendly but still very nice looking. I took longer than I had expected when it was time to choose frames because I became distracted with a pair of frames in the window and couldn't make up my mind. They didn't pressure me and gave me all the time I needed before I finally made my final decision. I opted for Crizal lenses but had I not, the lenses would have been ready in an hour or two. I returned in two days and my frames were ready, just as they told me they would be! Overall the whole process was easy and fast, I was also able to use my insurance here and my flex pay card as well. read more

I just got the most comfortable pair of contacts! I really liked that the optician gave me a lot of options and also made suggestions for toric lenses. (A lot of other opticians in my life have been kind of lazy and will just give me the next stronger contact and call it an adjustment.) If I didn't want contacts (which at the time, I was unsure of) they have a great selection of modern frames. The folks who work there try really hard to help you find exactly what you're looking for which is good if you're a busy person, but maybe bad if you enjoy a browsing experience. Even though I've moved away from this location now, I'll definitely consider this my personal eye doctor because they are people I can trust. Also, they never seem to be too busy so you can get in and out if you need to. read more

Fate and the fact that I had about $500 left in my flex spending account brought me to Luxeye. It's a very modern looking joint with an excellent selection of eyewear it seems from an array of really fashionable brands. I randomly walked in one weekend, wanted to sort of make a change in the type of frames I wore, and was immediately helped by one of their helpful associates. I finally settled on a pair of really nice Gucci frames, got my eye's examined, and placed my order. My glasses were ready within about 4 days and I was called back to get fitted by their skillful optician. I'm used to sort of the mom and pop optical places that you usually find in a suburb (you know, like the one i grew up in), so I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. This place seems to have all the new high-end technology you'd expect to find in a joint whose job it is to help you see better. The staff is really helpful and accommodating, and you have a lot of varieties of frames in the shop to choose from. If you think you're going to need an eye exam, call ahead just to make sure you can get all checked out. They also offer an extra discount on the exam if you're planning on actually purchasing frames and lenses from them. All in all, great experience, happy with my purchase . . highly recommended. read more

I'm so over franchises. Don't you want to be customized? Individuality brings creativity, freedom and choice. Did I travel all the way to Brooklyn just to get glasses from an indie eye glass store? The fact that I love Brooklyn and all it has to offer had absolutely nothing to do with my decision. I lie. The store is a decent size and seems rather new. The workers are extremely friendly and when I first walked in the optometrist came up to me and asked if I needed any help. This is an "all hands to the pump" kind of business which I appreciate. They have a nice selection of high end brands as well as local brands. Everything happened so fast I didn't know what hit me. One minute I was browsing and the next I was bending over politely asking for another. Don't let the quickness fool you, it just displays how efficient they are. The woman helping me asked what type of frames I was looking for and immediately began recommending a few. After I decided on Super + Visor (local BK brand), she printed out my insurance plan and went step by step with me through the charges. She was so convincing (or I was being an ignoramus) that I handed over my HSA card to be charged $300* within 15 minutes of entering the store and before getting an eye exam. The exam was thorough, the follow up call to confirm my glasses were ready for pick up was appeasing and I left with a smile. No lackluster experience here. They know their craft, don't try to hustle you out of your money and have friendly customer service. ------------------------------------------ *The reason my final cost came out to so much was because I needed to get ultra light feather weight lenses. What a waste of time. Went in looking for a new pair of glasses. Walked in wearing scrubs after work, approximately 20 minutes before close. 1 of the employees helped the guy who walked in immediately before me, showing him frames, & explaining to him that the pattern for which he was looking is called tortoise shell. Once he left, she asked me how I was doing "over there" -- 5 feet away. I told her that I was looking for some new frames. Apparently prospective business didn't interest her, as she proffered no more help for me. Normally I don't mind when retail employees leave me to browse rather than hovering over me, but when I'm looking at glasses that are locked to the racks, it behooves them to assist me if they want my $. Needless to say, they lost my business. Just a note on the frames: they are almost exclusively hipster. read more

I've had my eye on Luxeye since it opened. Very conveniently located. A few months ago, they weren't taking my insurance, but now they take all kinds. The front of desk guy answered all of my questions, looked up my insurance on the computer and showed me some stylish and attractive frames. The man who seemed to be the owner was quietly efficient and helpful. The best interaction was with Dr. Schwartz who gave me my eye exam. She was patient, caring, and genuinely friendly. Such a great experience for not even having an appointment! The joke is that I had stopped into Eyeco Vision just a block and a half north to see about becoming a new customer. Luxeye (the eye support artists previously known as "Shine") is by far the best optical store in Williamsburg, if not Brooklyn. It's so good that I continue to go here even though it's not "in plan" for my insurance. But the professionalism and extra effort the Luxeye people put into their work makes it worth going to (and they'll help you do the paperwork for reimbursments). read more

I am not, by any means, a difficult consumer. I'm the kind of person that tips 20% even when I get bad service and shushes my mother when she wants to send something back at a restaurant. Several years of retail and service industry jobs have made me empathetic to said professionals and I usually demand little to no service and give a ton of praise, even if its not due. In this case, I became the difficult consumer (or at least I felt like one). I had stopped by on an afternoon stroll and found a pair of glasses I liked. Made an appointment for the next week and the glasses were nowhere to be found. After I did my contact lens exam, only to find out the pair of glasses I had been pining over were sold, I moped around the store like Charlie Brown. One of the girls at the front said they could probably special order the glasses for me and found the pair I liked online. It would take a few weeks, but they would be there. Then, I panicked. What if it ended up that I didn't like them? What if i was in a hungover haze the week before and they were actually, really ugly? Instead of making me put down a deposit for the frames, they had be put down half and said if I didn't like them, I could use that deposit for another pair or lenses. Crisis averted. I came back a few times for follow up appointments and to pick up my contact supply. I returned again to try on my glasses and make sure I liked them, which I did! About a week later, they were ready and they sit on my nose as I write this. Everyone here was super nice and I love the pair of glasses I ended up with. They have a unique selection and decent hours, considering they're open for appointments on weekends and open until 8 PM during the week. Prices are fairly typical and they give you 10% off if you order contact lenses and frames. Not much of a discount, but considering I buy glasses once every five years, I'll spend the money for a pair I'm happy with. read more

Great service here ... above and beyond. First of all I have found Dr. Aoyagi to be thorough and very patient as we tried a few contact lens prescriptions to find the best fit. The staff have always been helpful and competent. Why do I say "above and beyond"? On a visit in mid-December I had a frustrating moment with one of those limitations-of-insurance coverage things. Insurers do seem experts at creating convoluted conditions to shave benefits, but that's another story. Bottom line here, the staff at Luxeye worked with me to work out a satisfactory pricing for my contacts and glasses. Then, at the end of a long day, because I was getting contacts fitted but came in wearing glasses, I accidentally left the glasses at the opticians on a day when the weather was just too bad to bike back there. When I called to confirm the glasses were there, the manager must have heard my dismay. She called back a few minutes later and offered to drop off my glasses on her way home after the shop closed, which she did. I'm not promising if you leave your glasses they will deliver them every time, but this kind of 'above and beyond' service gets big points in my book. Recommended. read more

Dr. Aoyagi is great! I'm usually not a fan of docs in eyeglass shops, but she is thoughtful and reasonable. She actually saved me money by recommending less expensive (and more comfortable) contacts. I had the shop replace the lenses on an older pair of glasses for less than another shop quoted (still more than getting a new pair of cheaper specs, but these are the most comfortable glasses I've ever owned). They also got pretty close to matching a contact lens deal I found online. Overall, way better than any of the eyeglass shops I dealt with in Manhattan. read more

Probably one of the best experiences I've had at an optometrist - even better than my hometown optometrist, whose intonations were always so soothing. I went in for a contact lens exam and was prepared to be grumpy because I had to pay for a prescription check - new government regulations mean that you HAVE to pony up every year for the exam, even if your prescription doesn't change. But everyone was very friendly from the get-go, and I ended up having a great experience. My doctor made me feel at home and she explained everything thoroughly as she was going. She was great about wanting to make sure I didn't get TOO strong of a prescription (headache territory), but could still see as well as possible (I'm practically blind in one eye). She speaks very quickly though, which means you sortof have to speak or forever hold your peace if you have questions (which she's happy to answer). She gave me two sets of contact lenses to test out, and when it came down to purchasing I went ahead and did it there instead of online because they have a nice exam+purchase deal that evened the odds. And really, I just loved them too much at that point to do my business elsewhere. Definitely love Luxeye. The peeps at both locations are super friendly, and basically made me enjoy spending money I didn't have. What more could you ask for?? read more

I just had a very good experience here. I was previously a customer at Moscot where I was very happy with the technology in use there - until they dropped every insurance company except for VSP. Well I don't have VSP - I have Eyemed. Enter Luxeye. Based on Yelp reviews I gave them a shot and the whole experience was great. I went on a weekend when the place was jammed with walk-in customers but I was seen immediately by Dr. Rogerson. We went over my history and had a few laughs and I was in and out of there happy with my exam, the professional attitudes of the staff (who handled the very crowded front desk as ably as possible on a crazy Saturday) and with my new prescription. They produced an itemized receipt to submit for flex spending reimbursement with ease and actually suggested it to me before I remembered to ask for it myself. The place was great and close to home. I love my eyes. If I could marry them, I would. I think anyone who wears corrective lens has learned to appreciate eyesight more than the rest. So, yeah, I really searched to find an optometrist I could trust. This place delivered. Before Luxeye, I had a bad experience with a downtown optometrist. They were just too busy, didn't take the time, and had misdiagnosed me with an "astigmatism". I ended up ordering contacts from an old prescription, because the ones they had me try gave me a huge headache. Luxeye fixed all of this. The optometrist is very cautious, kind, and really takes her time. She answered questions, and was super nice, even though I was starting to become a little distrustful of optometrists. If you're looking for someone to trust with one of your most precious organs, make an appointment and try them out. read more

Very friendly, informative and professional. I had a eye exam today but it was what they did the day before that started an incredible experience. I had a contact lense rip and ran into to see if they had my prescription in stock. No problem! Gave me one to hold me over til my FIRST appointment the next day. Once in for the appointment, the doctor was very friendly and informative...explaining in a very understanding manner each and everything she was doing. Visited twice, once to inquire about an arm-screw for a pair of eyeglasses, and another time about repairing a pair of sunglasses. For some reason, on both occasions, they staff were very unpleasant. It was bizarre and baffling, given how polite I was. Not only were they uninterested, they were borderline rude. I later had both pairs of glasses repaired at Caserta Eye in Manhattan. read more

Amazing experience. I was recently diagnosed as nearsighted, and since I have never worn contacts/glasses before, I was overwhelmed by the idea of picking out frames. The Luxeye staff was extraordinarily helpful, and the lady who assisted me had great suggestions without being bossy or negative. I had amazing frames picked out in record time, and all my friends LOVE my new glasses. I ordered my frames at 6pm on a Thursday night, and my frames were ready for pick-up by lunchtime on Friday. This place is like a used car dealer of eyewear. Come on in and buy your generic eyewear brand of choice from an asian guy with a cell phone attached to his belt. He's very sincere as he proceeds to tell you that EVERYTHING you try on looks great, all while informing you of the latest fashion trends that he clearly doesn't follow. While the aforementioned is happening, you are being stared at by his eagle-eyed asian counterpart. It was quite clear she assumed I was trying to steal something... must have been my skin color. To be fair, maybe she treats all her potential customers like thieves. I don't know. I do know her greeting could give you frostbite, she was so cold and robotic. Additionally, this place is ugly as hell and has a TV in the window playing a grainy loop of something terribly uninteresting. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PLACE DOING IN WILLIAMSBURG?!?!?!? They clearly do not get it. Hey Luxeye, walk in a boutique or two (maybe more) and get a clue. read more

I've been to so many eyeball places over the years and this is by far the best. The doctor was kind, professional, and knowledgeable. She was transparent about pricing and conscious about budget. She answered all my questions and spent a great deal of time listening to my concerns. The staff were also very courteous. The place was clean and well lit. Making the appointment was a breeze. My appointment was at 4:30 and when I got there at 4:30, I was seen right away. No mountain of paperwork. They had a clear explanation of my insurance benefits - all printed and ready to go before I even got there. I brought my dog and she was welcomed warmly. I would highly recommend this place! I had a great experience with these guys when I bought my glasses there last year and just had another. we're in the covid mess, I had lost my glasses and called them to get a copy of my prescription to get a cheap horrible pair online til I could get back to luxeye to get a new pair. they gave me a great deal on a new pair (same frames and same lenses) and shipped them out asap.
