We got 2 bagels with plain cream cheese, and 2 Taylor Made sandwiches on plain bagels. Ordered online and picked up in store. Inside plenty of people were waiting for their orders. I was able to pick up our order without waiting. As soon as I took the first bagel out of the bag, I was already impressed. The bagel was huge, loaded with lots of cream cheese. All of the other bagels were also fluffy and chewy. Our bagels were toasted to just the right consistency. After eating half of our bagels, we declared these are the best bagels we've ever had! This is my favorite Bagel shop in town, but make sure you are there before 2 or they won't actually serve you, even though it says they are open till 4. Walked in today a bit after 2pm, no bagels on the shelf's, every chair is up on a table, every light is off, and was told they didn't have any bagels. This is an hour and a half prior to close, it's pretty abhorrent that a "Bagel Shop" doesn't have bagels during their operating hours. If I had come in at 3:30 and been told the same thing I would have no issue, but this is almost 2 hours before your scheduled close. Hopes were high for this place. I arrived early and they were already busy but fast. the bagels are huge. Too bad that my sandwich came barely warm, never mind toasted; the bagel itself was extremely doughy and tasted like barely anything and more like enriched white bread in the shape of a bagel than a bagel - and this was their 'whole wheat', which was apparently just a name. The lox was mediocre and dry with poor texture. the sandwich contents was 90% iceburg lettuce and mushy tomatoes and 10% lox. The sign for lox and cream cheese on a bagel read $9.50. The guy who rang me up tried to charge me $11 and change for lox, lettuce and tomato with no cream cheese or butter. I told him I had ten dollars, the sign said 9.50 and I did not get cream cheese. His response was non verbal, just a mmmhmm ok and rude. On top of this being the worst tasting bagel place for the hype I have visited so far in NY, they attempted to overcharge me. Sunrise is one of my favorite bagel spots in Kingston. Maybe my actual favorite. The bagels are *real* (which means something to people who understand bagels) not doughy hard rolls with a hole punched in the middle. This means they are boiled and baked in the traditional method. You don't always get that in bagel shops these days and it really, truly makes a difference. The bagels are always fresh and delicious with lots of varieties. Their sandwiches are generous and delicious with quality ingredients. Note: They do not accept credit cards, but they have an ATM on site. They have their own parking lot (yay!) and the staff is extremely friendly. A long time ago, I took my son there when he was 2. He was talking to the owner and kept saying "I love Bagel! I love bagel!" and she presented him with a bagel that was literally as big as his head. He was the happiest boy alive and chewed on that thing all the way home. read more

This is THE spot. If you're in the area for a stay or shopping in the Kingston area and this isn't where you're getting your bagels and sandwiches from, you are missing out. First, do note that it is CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM inside, to the left of the door. Second, and most importantly, the bagels were fantastic. We got the go to bacon, egg and cheese on a poppy seed bagel, a Ruben on a rye bagel, an everything bagel with cream cheese, and a cinnamon raisin bagel with veggie cream cheese. These bagels are the kind that aren't perfectly round and doughy -- they're slightly irregular and lean just slightly closer to bready than dense and doughy. This is the kind of bagel that I remember being able to pick up from a cart or bagel shop in NYC as a kid. For all of that and while they were juggling a steady flow of other customers, we only waited about 10-12 minutes. My only criticism would be that the bagels with cream cheese just weren't toasted enough but I can overlook that easily. Finally, I was completely charmed by the young man behind the counter. He knew at least half of the customers that walked in by name Address address them that way. He asked about their families and seemed genuine when he asked how they were doing. Goddamn, these are huge bagels. $20 worth of these bagels will feed several hundred normal people for weeks, and about a dozen people in my family at brunch. They are so big that my mom cuts them into thirds, which is absolute insanity. Get it together, Mom. I still cut them in half like a normal human being, but I almost consider scooping them, which completely out of character because who would waste perfectly good bagel insides? The shop is run by a few older gents that are eager to please, and they've got the everything, the salt, the onion...all the bagels you need, and even some plain for people that don't like flavor.
