Very historic little shop. Very small but has a little of everything. There's an eclectic selection. Lots of local things, as well as shirts, food, peanuts (boiled & roasted), ceramics, apple fritters, apple bread, body lotions, candles, etc. It won't take long to walk through this entire place. Nice place to take a stretch and enjoy the historic building. Very friendly people. Wish more things were clearly priced. Would have purchased a couple things, but didn't want to walk up with 4 things to ask price of them as it is a small place and there were people in there. This is an old style grocery market outside Blairsville. It has gas pumps . We got little bottles of coke and neihi grape soda. They have hot boiled peanuts. Country ham, chocolates, canned food. There is no reason to give this rustic rest stop on our way to the northern end of Georgia mountains less than the tribute of 5 stars. Sunrise Grocery popped up on our GPS as a must stop and do a bit of a walk about to shake numb legs from a long drive. I'm looking for a parking spot, and we sure got lucky; right up front but not blocking the lone gas pump. Oh, this is a delightfully quaint and rickety fantastic old building with aisles of locally made goodness. Artwork made from photographs is proudly displayed, and homemade soaps and jars of jams are a central theme. The produce is centered on a colorfully red ball of beefsteak tomatoes and Vine ripened watermelons and Georgia peaches. We made the friendly couple running this Sunrise Grocery country store a big happy part of our buying spree, and of course, we got the famous boiled peanuts, the Cajun taste. A fun picture taking moment outside where the boiling kettles are and a quick use as permitted to use a clean red door outhouse, and we are back on the road again. The store is nestled between Blood Mountain and Richard B Russell Scenic Highway, about a dozen miles from Brasstown Bald. Also, essential for the motorcyclist, there is paved parking, two gasoline pumps, clean bathrooms, and lots of things to eat and drink. It is the perfect stop between riding the twisties. Stopped here our first night for wood! Such a blessing to have this business. We were able to get some items for our cabin stay. We went back the next morning which was Sunday. Many places are closed here in town to n Sunday. We absolutely loved the gas pumps! There was a customers actually getting gas! We will be getting gas tomorrow! Phenomenal, absolutely stellar store in the North Georgia mountains run by a Vietnam veteran leatherneck (Semper Fi). They sell just about everything you could want at a country store as well as gasoline, but the service and the warm feeling is what makes this place top notch. I was there about this time a week ago today. I spent quite a bit of money here over the several days I was at the nearby state park. No Covid regulations here, but up to this point cashiers treated me respectfully while wearing my mask. I went in to buy some soap on the way to the airport for a coworker who had a birthday the next day. I was the only customer. I was trying to smell the soap through my mask to see what she might like. The two employees started laughing... I looked up and they were both looking directly at me. I asked them why they were laughing and they continued to giggle looking at me right in the eye. When I checked out the cashier continued to hold back her giggle, and tossed my debit card on the counter, rather than politely handing it to me. I have always shopped here on my annual visits for produce, boiled peanuts, etc. It was the most disappointing encounter I have ever had at a merchant. I can only assume it was because I was wearing my k95 mask. As a RN from Miami who regularly tests for Covid, lives in an area where there have been almost 180000 cases, 4000 deaths, my son's best friend's father has died, and I have known many unable to go to work after spending weeks in the hospital...masks are no laughing matter to me. Cases may be low in your area, but with tourists coming in to experience a mountain getaway... that may change. Maybe be more respectful of those coming in to spend money in your store during a pandemic. Very disappointing. read more

RIGHT ON THE WAY! This little grocery store is the perfect stop if you are camping in the area or leaving the city of Blairsville. They carry groceries, firewood, produce, souvenirs, boiled peanuts and other items that you may need. You can even get your gas here! They had a really nice selection of ciders including apple, peach, muscadine, blackberry and other flavors. We decided to purchase the muscadine and peach flavors. Now, I prefer to have 100% juice with no added sugar but I was really curious about these drinks. Although they were a little sweet for me, they were really authentic in taste and definitely would be a better choice than pop or other carbonated beverages. I have to say that their roasted peanuts are the real deal. They were very fresh, lightly toasted without salt and absolutely delicious! If you purchase these make sure that they are packed and placed out of reach in the rear of your vehicle because they are so tempting. We stumbled in on this true mountain treasure 35 years ago when Jason's grandparents ran the store. Boy what a lucky stumble that was! Over the years we have grown to count Jason and his trusty sidekick, Beverly, as family. There is so much to see and enjoy in this quaint little store. We proudly wear our old timer's t-shirts (short sleeve in summer and long sleeve in the fall) all year. I sometimes get a snack on my way to the nearby waterfalls. I highly recommend their local honey. And I enjoy their fresh, local, free-range eggs. Many spots in Appalachia attempt to recreate what once was, but very few just are. Sunrise Grocery IS what once was. They are the same place my mom pulled into with five girls packed into a Caprice Classic station wagon like Vienna Sausages in a can. She could get gas at a fair price, a bag of potato chips or boiled peanuts, and a pack of bologna for lunch. You always got good conversation, found out about recent bear visits, and got some good local fresh produce. I still stop by Sunrise every Wednesday when we head up to Vogel. My boys know there is only one place around to get good boiled peanuts, a cold drink, a hunk of old fashioned cheddar cheese, and a Davey Crocket hat.
