I was one of those skeptical guys who thought about getting solar, but didn't trust the sells pitch given by these people who seemed desperate to get in my pockets. I have been approached by people going door to door and by various people while in the streets. All from different companies. My brief questions to these reps were usually not answered to my satisfaction. Then, met a Sunrun rep while at Home Depot. He wasn't desperate, but very mild and engaged me on a human level. I agreed to have a sales rep come to my house. I then met Zhan Chen, Sunrun rep, who came to my house on a Sunday morning which was my only available time. He gave a detailed, no pressure and informative presentation. I was impressed with him and he answered my questions to my satisfaction. He told me what to expect from start to finish. And I have to say, he was not wrong. Everything he said happened exactly like he said. I even refinanced my house through their loan department (Loan pal) at the end of the project. Through the refi, I was able to pay off the solar contract before making my first payment. This resulted in me getting the 30% tax break back in my pocket at tax time, instead of having to give it to the finance company as the contract called for. Now I have no solar payments, Solar power for electricity, a back up battery and $12k returned from my solar rebate. My mortgage only went up by $60 per month. I am beyond happy. read more

My system has been down for 3 mos+. Sunrun kept me update every few weeks that they were still waiting for parts from manufacturing. All the customer service people told me was to wait and more wait - no ETA. So sad that they can not resolve in timely manner. 12/19/2023 Finally, Sunrun informed that they got the parts and came out on 12/04 (system down starting 08/23). The technician found that they had installed the system incorrectly with one of the cable was not screwed in at all. He tightened it and the system seemed to work correctly thus far. No parts needed to be replaced! So, we got our system out of service for 3+ months while they waited for parts that they did not need! While we waited for their repair, their representative mentioned that they would consider compensation for the time lost. As I expected, that was for reducing my pressing for quicker repair. They just informed that since we own the system, no performance guarantee, thus, the time lost due to their mistake was tough luck for us! And they had no responsibility or customer consideration. Too bad! Sunrun does not care about their reputation nor customer satisfaction since they are big enough. If you want to use Sunrun, my advice is to buy electricity from them only; the whole system. I signed contacts with this company after meeting them in Costco on Moreno Blvd, in San Diego In 2021. As of today They have not installed nor given me a date for installation. Sun Run has advised me that SDG&E is holding up the process. Well I called SDG&E and they advised me they asked 4 questions to Sun Run. Sun Run couldn't answer those questions and advised SDG&E to put our project on hold. That was 1-10-22. Sun Run is not a responsive company in my opinion. read more

I was going to wait until my panels were activated to write a review but I don't know if that will ever happen. I saw Sunrun was affiliated with Costco and I generally trust their vetting of businesses & products, so signed a contact with Sunrun in May of 2021. They were fantastic. Sales people were helpful, well informed and courteous. The gentleman who came out to design my layout seemed ok although I would later find out he messed up the design. The installers were very nice and fast. They informed me that there was a problem with my design, but after a few phone calls to their office they went ahead with the quick & clean install. 6 months later the panels, equipment, and back up battery are all just sitting on my house. No inspections, no activation, nothing. Once a week I receive a robo text or email saying: "We are working on your re-permit". I have contacted the city & county building permit offices and there are no pending redesigns and/or re-permits for my property. Every time I contact Sunrun I get the same "re-permit" crap. Unless you enjoy frustration and want to be the solar joke of your neighborhood find another solar company. read more

We have had solar on our home through Vivint Solar - they were bought out by Sunrun . We have received bills from SCE for $2000.00 every year . Now Sunrun has turned off our panels for non payment - I have auto pay and it gets taken out every month . So now the panels are deactivated and they are demanding $30.000.00 for the panels - is this a ponzu scheme ? I have never been so upset of a company . Warning!! Sunrun will be your best friend as long as your system is running fine. As soon as there is a problem, beware. Our inverter went bad on our system which means no electricity was being generated. We contacted Sunrun as soon as we realized this. Took them 6 months and many many phone calls from.us to find the new part and get it installed. We were told that the new systems took 1st priority with 80 percent of the inventory going to them first and existing customers had to wait. Every phone call I made I ask what Sunrun was going to do for us. We made every payment to them and had high electric bills at the same time. Oh, they said, when your system is fixed we will issue you a credit. I was satisfied with that until they wanted to only issue us a $75.00 credit!! NOT ACCEPTABLE!! Not even a year after getting the solar pannels installed my roof starting sinking in and I have water damage inside my house. After filing several complaints they finally agreed to remove the solar pannels "at no cost" then my removal appointment was rescheduled and now I'm being told that I am responsible for the cost of removal and installation for each solar pannel so that I can higher a contractor to replace my roof (when they were the ones who stated my roof was good for 10 years) which was a complete lie because not even 1 year later the roof has completley gone to SH** read more

I went with Sunrun over other good companies that our neighbors used, thinking I would somehow have better service and quality of work, as Sunrun was vetted through Costco. I wish I had read other reviews and just gone with another company. It would have saved me money, but also a lot of time and headache. This project has been a disaster. After I signed my contracts, etc, there was no oversight or accountability whatsoever. The right hand at Sunrun does not know what the left hand is doing. The installation was subcontracted to an inept group who were incentivized to finish quickly without any supervision. They had to come back 3 separate times because they either didn't receive proper instructions, or they ignored the instructions they were given. At "completion" the result is a total embarrassment, and, it's failed city inspection to top it off. Now, over 50 broken tiles on my roof, caulking all over the place, wiring sticking out, bright steel railings with raw edges showing and overhanging up to 4 feet passed the panels, and more. It looks like I my son went up there and installed it. Every time I speak with someone at Sunrun, they apologize and tell me they are escalating it. Then, it just gets passed to another uninformed employee who apologizes and tells me who else to speak with. Or, I get a call from the manager at the subcontractor who tells me that they did a great job. (SMH) Who exists at Sunrun who is actually in charge and cares about this company's reputation?? I am now looking into how to reject this project and have it all removed. I refuse to spend the $19,000 installation cost for this disastrous headache. For those of you considering SUNRUN, You should reconsider looking for another company. Costco shame on you for marketing this company. The sale's person will say anything to make the sale. I will take some of the blame. Make sure you read your contract carefully. They do have items buried in the 70 page contract that they do not disclose to you and that you should be aware of. If this company is so good, why are they afraid to tell you all the facts? Be aware that by the end of the contract you will be paying just under double the amount each year that you started at. They state that they monitor your system to make sure that it is generating power that they guaranteed. This is not true. My system was down for over a 1/2 month. And no one reached out to me. I noticed it through my app that my system was not generating any power. When I reached out to SunRun and ask them to fix it, they were swaying back-and-forth deciding if it was in my contract and if the issue met the criteria so that I would not have to pay for it. Pay for it? The system was not even one year old. You will see other reviews complaining about their systems failing and trying to get service. (nightmare) The solar panels are their system. They are using my house as a source to acquire the energy. They should be responsible to come and fix their panels or system no matter what the issue is. These people are foul! They came to my house. Addressed me by name and inquired directly to the specific dollar of my PG&E. The problem is, I've NEVER applied to their services EVER! They shouldn't know my name, come to my house or dig into my finances! After calling customer service to explain and ask to be removed the agent hung up on me. i got sun run through Costco my sales rep is Josh he is out in the Antelope Valley. They installed the panels March 16th it is now July 20th and panels are not turned on. They relocated my braker box and the new location was not approved by the inspector, I keep calling them and I get the run around. Consumer affairs is next. I am not pleased with this Solar Company. I signed two 45 day contracts with this company to install Critter Guards. When this did not come through with first 45 day contract, they sent me another one to sign and never contacted me to have them is stalled. When I would call they would transfer me to different Departments, telling me that some one would call me back, they never did! I purchased my Sunrun panels through Costco and they never return my call. We have had Sunrun for 8 years and have been mostly pleased with them. However, at the beginning of October I put a request in to have the panels removed (and then reinstalled) so that I could proceed with a having my roof replaced. Sunrun assigned my project to a partner contractor who fairly quickly came a removed the panels. When my roofing company tried to pull their permit through our city they were told they couldn't get their permit until the permit for the removal and reinstallation of the solar panels had been pulled. As soon as I was told this by my roofing company, I contacted my Sunrun project manager (I left a voice message). I did not hear back from her after several days, so then I sent her an email. She did respond to that email by asking for my roofing company's contact information so that the Sunrun partner company and the roofing company could work together to get the permits. That was a week ago and since then I have left several voicemails, sent several emails and have heard nothing. Today I spoke with someone else in customer service and was told that it takes 4-6 weeks to pull a permit!! This is absolutely NOT true as my roofing company could have had their permit that same day had the solar permit been pulled. When I explained this I was told that the permit had to be pulled from the county not the city. Then I called the city and asked for a step by step description of how the process works. I was told the solar permit (actually two permits, a fire department and a building permit) must be pulled PRIOR to the panels being removed, then the roofing permit can be pulled. The city confirmed that they have jurisdiction over my home, not the county. Sunrun's partner company screwed up by not pulling the permit when they should have. Now I'm having a terrible time getting anyone to do anything about it. My roof could have been finished by now and the panels back up. Instead I am losing production that I am paying for, my roof won't get fixed before the rain comes and I'll have water damage in my home!! read more

They came to repair it and it is still off line right now! They have cancelled maintenance appointments without contacting me , so I sit at home waiting for them and lose money NOT being at work! Now I have a PG&E Net Energy Metering (NEM) over $1900.00 due on January 19th! How can I pay that?? Sunrun overpromises and underdelivers. Part of the process of shopping for solar is to see how much electrical production each company will deliver and at what price. Sunrun promised that my solar panels would produce a certain level of electiricty for a certain amount of money that was less expensive than other providers. Well, that sure is easy to do when their promises don't represent reality. They didn't come anywhere close to the promised level of electricity production. My escrow closed on June 24th , 2021 amd payoff was sent/ received June 25th directly from my escrow company. It's now July 21st and still hasn't been closed out from the sunrun transfer of service dept. on top of it LaSha the agent handling my account is horrible at returning emails , phone calls, or any updates not only to me but to my escrow agent. Horrible company. They tapped into my breaker box and completely screwed up my air conditioner. They have swore they would call me back within 24 4 times. Have yet to do that yet. I have a one year old and my air conditioner has worked for a total of about a week this summer. They have come out twice to look at it with no resolution other than the tech saying they guy who installed it ran everything wrong. Its been almost 2 months. Their customer service is horrible! Update: They keep putting me on hold and when I told them I won't go away until I talk to a manager that was supposed to call me two days ago, they hanged up on me. My stove is gas, my heater is gas, I don't use the dryer to dry my clothes, my water heater is on-demand electric. Before Sunrun I was paying the electricity company an average of $200. a month. So to make it easy to understand my review, I pay just a bit more each month to say "I have a solar system" and I am helping the environment, THANKS SunRun. P.S., My contract says if my panels underperform, Sunrun will give me a refund. If you are looking to get solar. There's two things you must know. 1. DO NOT UNDER ANY Circumstances Lease. You will get screwed. 2. DO NOT USE Sun Run Solar. They are unorganized and fail to provide info in a timely manner. They also use pressure sales tactics if you choose to sell your home and have a lease. How can I give 0 stars??? It's pouring rain, I have 2 spots on my roof that are leaking due to solar panel installation and they give 0 f*cks to offer any kind of help! I've called 3x and been "disconnected" 2x. My elderly mother is moving in with me in a couple days and the room that is raining into will be her room. She has dementia and Alzheimer's and is barely mobile these days. I've told Sunrun about this already but they don't seem to care at all! They said once I file I claim I can expect to hear back from them in 5-7 business days about setting up an appointment to have someone come inspect my roof. When I told them that it's literally raining inside the bedroom on my bed, they put a rush for them to get back to me 24-48hrs! I run a business and somehow my office number was entered into their systems as requesting a quote, I have had over 60 calls in 3 days. Multiple messages both live and robots calling all hours and this is after asking (begging) 4 live agents to stop calling. Now they are robo calling from different numbers so I can not block them. DON'T DO IT! SunRun is has horrible lease terms, and when the system fails to perform they credit back pennies on the dollar. They only way to break the lease is to buy it out for vastly more than what the failing system is worth. Our system consistently underperforms year-over-year, and their "guaranteed performance" is a joke. They pay us back less than half the rate of the utility company's rate. Between the lease payment and the utility bill each month it costs more then without solar! Also, we have had service tickets in place for over 6 months! Their customer care fails to communicate with their service side, and the technicians show up uninformed and without any replacement materials. The solar panels are working fine, as far as we know, but we have been given the runaround in regards to the "Reward" they bestow when a referral to them has been made and their product purchased. They promise $1000 for such referrals. I made one and their panels were installed, and so began a year-long process of being told the reward somehow got lost in the mail. Over twenty emails and countless phone calls later, it is still unresolved and I believe it is likely to remain so. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth, for sure, and I will not be recommending the company to anyone again, not because I don't like the product, but because I don't like the company's ethics. read more

This company is awful, I would not recommend them. The install of the system was fine but if you have a problem, good luck! Our system has been off for six months and we can't get anyone to address the issue. I have spent easily over 10 hours on the phone and can't get on the repair schedule. No one in corporate can figure out which department should deal with our issue and after six months we finally got on schedule and they sent a roof repair guy out when our issue is a wiring/electrical issue. Once everything was all set for installation, I received a cancelation notice via email without any explanations called customers' services unreliable. 2MONTHS after the instaler company texted that the issue has been resolved which was great I have asked the person handling my account its was provided and i gave him a call/text no reply I have called the customers services again and I was informed my issue will be handle and to escalate my concerns still pending up to this day unsolved. read more
