Do not, and I mean do NOT waste your time at this place. I took time off work, drove 30mins, arrived 10mins early to my appointment and had to wait an hour to be seen. Around the 45min mark, I got frustrated and went to ask what the hold up was...I was then told there was 2 people ahead of me & the lady behind the desk had a blank look on her face as if there were nothing she could do. I asked for another vet office that could treat snakes and while I was on the phone with the other vet, a vet tech popped out of the back ready to help after I became visibly angry. I love Greg Brown. He's been a "buddy" to our sun conure, Zack, and out other birds for over 23 years. You can't find a better vet for your birds. The staff answering the phones is another issue. I know "snark" is cool now, but it's unprofessional. I've been trying to call for a well check for Zack and our other bird, Bubbles, for 2 weeks. I have a couple of days next week and was clear that I was specifically looking for an appointment on those days. They kept telling me to "call back next week." I called today and - you guessed it - they're booked up on the days I requested. Not even an "I'm sorry." I will call again when my schedule clears and know now that I have to get aggressive to get what I need out of them. I'm so disappointed. I have been taking my birds to Dr. Brown since the late 70's, when he was in Five Points and I continue to take my Yellow Naped Amazon, Bubba, to him to this day. Telling our ages now, aren't we? Columbia is certainly fortunate to have all those avian vets under one roof at Sunset Animal Clinic. Dr. Brown and Dr. Foy are not only professional and compassionate with exotic birds, they truly LOVE them. Quite frankly, one must be a little weird to relate to parrots and to think like a parrot, as I do, but they understand Bubba and me. They are the very best. 18 years ago, I brought my first snake to see Dr. Foy. He has been my favorite veterinarian from that day on. He is wonderful to my snakes and my cats. The whole staff has cared for my furbabies over the years, but Foy is my reptile man! Dr. Foy, Dr. Brown, Dr. Huse, Dr. Breland (and everyone who has come and gone in the almost 2 decades I have entrusted them with my pets) have ALL been wonderful. They truly care. It doesn't matter if you get an emergency appointment (because you think something is wrong & nothing is wrong) or you are having to make the most difficult decision of euthaniasia; THEY CARE. I took my African grey parrot Sophia for her first year check up, from the moment we arrived the staff were very friendly. Very nice atmosphere felt very comfortable as a matter of fact I decided to take her there from a wonderful review on Yelp. Well after filling out our paperwork we were called in shortly afterwards, a nurse came in and asked some questions about her diet ,age and etc. shortly afterwards the doctor came in such a pleasant man smiling and introduced himself , he ask questions about Sophia then proceeded to examine her . Now let me explain this I had her since she was only 12 weeks and now she's one year old and only likes me ! Let me tell you she took the doctor like he was her best friend I was kind of jealous. He gave great advice for her diet and taught me how to check her to make sure she's healthy. Sorry for rambling on I just can't say enough about this great experience. Everyone here is exceptionally kind and you can tell they are really passionate about what they do. I was pretty anxious about going to a new vet than i usually do for my rabbits spay, since we couldn't afford the $800 my usual vet would charge so we shopped around and drove from Charleston to Colombia just to go here. After meeting them i felt much better about leaving her there and they called to update me on her condition and everything went great. Not to mention it was about a quarter of what we would have paid at the other place for them to do a whole general appt with the spay. Sunset Animal Clinic is the best vet clinic I've been to, and the prices are very reasonable - especially for the services provided. Dr. Foy not only provides great medical care, he also took the time with us to help us understand and enjoy our puppy. Our puppy will be BIG but she wants to love and please humans and craves our attention. This makes her overwhelming at times. Dr Foy listened to our concerns (she is very excited jumps all over people, which worries us. But then she doesn't bark or SOMETHING, ANYTHING when she needs to go outside). He gave us useful ideas for dealing with her behaviors. Our puppy 'appears to be' a breed that is commonly restricted in apartments (e.g "Pit" Bull, Rottwiler, German Shepard, etc.). Dr. Foy listened to our problem, did not judge, and understood that our puppy is not necessarily one of THOSE breeds. However she may have some medical concerns common to those breeds (because no one can really look at a mutt and tell what her genetic makeup REALLY is) . He put the breed we claimed on her paperwork, which saved her and us as well. He also told us that medically speaking we should be careful of certain things (e.g. Parvovirus), and have extra innoculations just to be certain. He took the time to test puppy's temperament and he saw her for the sweetie she is. I really appreciate knowing she's good not just with us, but also good with the guy who give her injections! Dr. Foy is also very good at sorting through the hype and working in reality. I've had vets push certain products or medications or ideas on me before, but with no real logic behind the recommendation. Dr. Foy asks great, logical questions and backs the answers up with common sense facts which cut through the 'hype'. He is never condescending in the process. He also does not try to sell you things! Dr. Foy truly loves dogs and he loves his job. I've tried 2 other vets in this area and I will never go anywhere else. The only thing kinda little bit critical I can say is that he thinks cats cannot be trained. Well, he hasn't met MY kitty yet! read more

I was in a panic when one of my guinea pigs was possibly having a very dangerous medical condition that can kill some piggies within 12 hours. My vet was booked and couldn't see her. I call Sunset, though booked, agreed to work me in late in the day. The vet (I wish I could remember her name) was extremely caring and understanding. They took an unbelievable amount of time with her, more than I would have imagined. I was really blown away with all they did. I was even more shocked when I got the bill - FAR less than I anticipated. I can't say enough about the entire staff at Sunset Animal Clinic. As for the piggie, she is okay! Sunset has been my vet since I've had my dog over 9 years. They were also my parents vet for my pets growing up. Dr. Foy is top notch! I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. He is personable and truly cares. I love when he gets on their level and makes sure they're comfortable before taking any action. He has done eye surgeries on my dog and removed cancer from my dog this year. Most of their office staff are nice.I strongly suggest this place. I am sure any of their vets would be perfect! I have been taking my dogs to Sunset for 20 years and they are the best. They are knowledgeable and caring and charges are reasonable. They spend lots of time educating the owner and truly care for the pet. Very thorough in the exam. Very prompt with calling you with test results. I have had one dog who was sick most of his life and the care was fantastic. I now have a 14 year old beagle who is having some problems and the care is still great 15-20years later. I have tried a vet clinic closer to my home, but care was not the same. I highly recommend them. All the doctors in the practice are great. read more
