Anyone moving to San Angelo ... Do not rent from Sunset & The Annex Apartments San Angelo Texas!!! We have carpenter ants they were biting our son and causing a welt-like reaction. They didn't want to do anything till we said we were not going to renew our lease. Then that day they sent someone to spray where the ants were. We asked to be let out of our lease due to this issue and they declined it. Well now the carpenter ants have moved to our bedroom and are coming from under the floorboards and on the walls. Just be warned they only put bandaids on things and almost never fix anything till you threaten legal or say you aren't renewing the lease. read more

Sunset Apartments The AC kept flooding my apartment! It happened twice in about 6 months, second time while I was on vacation. They called it NORMAL, mold & all!! They claimed, we do not have black mold in Texas..... It was making me sick in the couple of weeks or so I was stuck living there while I moved out. Wellington Apartments I could hear my neighbors just about anytime they were moving & half a dozen of my neighbors or so LOVED to let their stupid dogs bark all through the NIGHT!!!! Arg!! I do not care for dogs like some, so this was a HUGE negative. Desert Shadows Apartments I have lived here once before, loved it both times!! Carpet is worn looking & some other things are not in the best condition. But it is not bad & it is mold free, flood free, & very reasonably, & I do not hear my neighbors EVER!! Oh, and, the AC works well & it is well insulated with washer/dryer hook ups!! I live on the bottom floor. They are remodeling the parking lot for more space right now, almost done!! It is looking good!!!! But now I am moving out. Lol Anytime I have had any major issues they took care of them promptly! read more

The whole apartment is over priced for such outdated things. There is something seriously wrong with the light switches in some apartments. They are weird to use. The kitchen is small but okay. The biggest problem here is a lack of a pantry. Yes, there is NO pantry. I had to get storage for my food. The apartment does NOT stay cool. Poor insulation. There are not many outlets and there are none in the hallway. Have fun vacuuming. The walls are thin and my neighbor gets loud when he has people over. I can hear his dog whining sometimes when he is gone all day and it makes me sad. I want to comfort him. The pet policy is VERY strict. $400 per pet? and $200 not refundable? Serious? For a cat? A perfect cat that will not ruin anything. Make sure you see a vet in San Angelo before renting here. Yes, only a San Angelo vet. All pets must be over 9 months old on their paperwork. Also, they accuse you of having an animal that you do NOT have. We do not have a brown dog. Where would they even get that from? I have a cat that they know about who is terrified of dogs. They have a strict clean up your dog's poo outside. If you get caught not picking it up just once, they force you to get rid of the dog because they are heartless. I've lived in Sunset Apartments for over 16 years. I decided to move because I had become and here's why: 1. I asked for a 6 month lease when my lease ended in February because I wanted to move. Immediately my rent went up by $100. Why, I have no idea. It doesn't make sense. On the website it says that a 6 month lease is available, but there's no indication of rent, for any of the apartments. 2. The apartments have absolutely NO insulation and are cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There are no double paned windows, which would help. Adding to that since there's very little insulation in the apartments, and I could hear what my neighbors are doing, such as flushing the toilet or taking a shower. 3. The kitchen very small with very limited cabinet or counter space. There's not very much room on the shelves in all of the closets and laundry room. Besides, there is no pantry to put things on or in and I had to put my food in the cabinets The kitchen counters stain no matter what spills on them because they're so old. 4. I was given a plunger for the bathroom and told that if my toilet clogs I was to use it to fix the problem. The thing is I'm NOT A PLUMBER and shouldn't have to do that. I thought maintenance was included in my rent. I guess not. I'm also supposed to replace the batteries in the smoke detectors, which I don't mind doing, but I'm too short to get to the ones that are high up on the wall and I'm not about to climb a ladder to put the batteries in. Maintenance should do that. Another thing I was supposed to do was clean out the garbage disposal when I spilled spaghetti in it and clogged the darned thing up so I did, but it didn't help. Maintenance eventually came in and fixed it, it turned out the stupid thing was broken anyway. 5 Besides all that, I was told I had to pay for burner pans for the stove because mine were dirty. I told the manager that I needed new ones and she replied, in a condescending voice, that I should have known they were dirty because they set off the smoke alarm and that I would have to buy them myself because I only had a 6 month lease. Unfortunately, she told me I had to pay for them. 6. The air ducts don't get cleaned out very often. That should be done once a year, in my opinion. I have allergies, and dirty air ducts make it worse. The only time that's ever been done is when I specifically asked for it. I thought that maintenance was included in the rent, but I guess not. I had to pay for all kinds of things that I shouldn't have to and have to perform things I have no idea how to do, such as plumbing. Sunset Apartments nickels and dimes you for everything. I got a notice that I owed $3.45 because I hadn't paid enough rent. I paid exactly what was in the system, nothing more, nothing less. The office could have picked up the phone and called me just to let me know and I would have paid it. I realize it had to be put in writing for the record, but calling me on the phone and recording it in my record seems much more courteous. Then I noticed a credit on my account for five cents. If I paid $3.45, then where did the five cent credit come from? I paid $894/month for rent, which is ridiculous for an apartment that has never been touched since it was built. The only thing that has are the refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. New tenants are paying over $1000/month just for a 2 BR/2 BA apartment in this complex, which is ridiculous. There are completely renovated apartments in town that have lower rents. If I were just moving to San Angelo I would not choose Sunset Apartments. This place is just not worth it. read more

We lived in phase 2 of Sunset Apartments while my husband was in tech school. We had a crazy loud neighbor but I've learned that any time you live in an apartment complex you have at least one and since we laughed at her more than she annoyed us it was okay. We never had any problems with the office. The insulation in the apartment wasn't so great but when we were moving out they were putting up new siding so maybe that has improved. My only real complaint is that the kitchen is very small so counter and cabinet space is painfully limited. Also because it is a galley style kitchen more than one person cannot be in the kitchen at once if you are cooking or cleaning. I would say that this complex isn't great for dogs because the maintenance crew doesn't do a lot to take care of the grass and there are really sharp sticker things that I guess fall off of the tress and always got stuck in our dog's paw pads. So if you have a dog and want to live here I suggest buying hard soled doggy shoes otherwise you'll be dealing with bloody paws every time your dog wants to walk in the grass/dirt. read more

Good layout of the apartments. I lived in a two bedroom for six months. The insulation of the apartments isn't that great, so expect larger electricity bills. You can have pets and you actually get part of the deposit back. The kitchen is smaller....so don't expect much cabinet space. The work out room has some outdated machines and not much else. Didn't ever use the pool since I lived there during the winter months. The people in the office staff were nice but a bit ditzy. The apartments will fix things really quickly if you need them. read more

Extremely outdated appliances and cabinetry, smelly water (like fish), poor water pressure. It's very similar to a dive hotel. We had a maintenance issue with our dishwasher breaking and they took over a week to respond. They only came out after I followed up with them via email. The day after maintenance "fixed" the dishwasher it was broken again. 10/10 do not not recommend. read more

When we first got to San Angelo, we needed to find a place to live ASAP. Sunset was the first apartment complex we looked at. The lady helping us, Lisa, was nice and helpful. We were looking for a one bedroom and while they didn't have one open for a few weeks, she showed us a two bedroom which is similar, supposedly. After looking at other places and not finding anything available for over a month, we decided to come back here and try to get that one bedroom. We called beforehand, but rushed to get there before they closed to turn in a "$100 holding fee." We were cutting it close- we had about 10 minutes. Anyways, when we were there, we were given an application to fill out. While my husband was filling it out, I saw on a door that said "Not a public restroom." Well, I had to go! I figured they'd make an exception since I'd just handed them a check for $100. I asked the girl, who was not the same woman we'd been shown around by earlier, as I think she'd gone home by then. Since it was kind of an emergency and without missing a beat she said I could "leave and find somewhere and come back" if I wanted to, but she couldn't make an exception for me to use their bathroom. Are you kidding me? That was such lousy service. We kept waiting for the people to move out of the one bedroom apartment so we could move in, but we definitely kept our options open. We eventually found somewhere better and they kept my $100 (go figure). For a one bedroom apartment at Sunset, it was $630 a month (even though we were originally quoted $620 a week before when we called AND it was listed in the apartment handbook given to us by the Goodfellow Housing Office as $620. Anyways, they only pay for trash. We got in across the street for $645 with everything included except electric (even cable and internet included!). The apartment we're at has stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops and is fairly quiet. Sunset had awful yellow counter tops and old appliances. However, as the woman told us "for $25 more a month, you can have slightly more updated appliaces." It wasn't the place for us. read more

This place sucks! First of all! Their pools are always dirty! The apartments have ants crawling out of random places, management is terrible! The girls in the office are not friendly at all and they talk about other staff in front of the tenants , which i find very unprofessional. My family and i moved out and they found so many dumb reasons to keep our deposit. So when they say they will give you your deposit back as long as you leave the apartment in good condition its not true, Terrible place to live in! read more

This place is the worse in town. The apartment is very old with no upgrades. From all the apartments I have lived in this is the ghetto version. It is over priced for what you get. Management is rude and lazy. Good luck getting them to work. It would be a good thing to know your tenant rights before moving here because they violate them everyday. One more thing, they have the large ants which crawls out from the outlets. I highly recommend the Alamo village apartments. The management is excellent, not heartless compared to sunset. I recommend upgrade the apartments and eliminate the office staff and replace with good professional staff who has a heart. read more

I had a very hard time finding an apartment in San Angelo. We needed a 7 month lease and we have a dog over 50 pounds. Sunset Apartments worked with me on everything. I got a 6 month lease and can go month-to-month after that. My fat dog was accepted with an additional deposit. I thought the extra refundable deposit was a little excessive; it was the cost to replace ALL the carpet in the entire apartment. But, it is refundable. It's a pretty typical apartment. This unit has two bedrooms and two full baths spread over about 1000 square feet. The kitchen is relatively open to the living and dining rooms. One odd thing is that the windows are maybe one foot off the ground. My dog enjoys looking out them, but I would be concerned if I had small kinds. There is a "cozy" fitness center with 2 treadmills, an elliptical, and 2 reclined bikes. There is also one giant weight machine. There are 2 pools in the complex which look well maintained. The grounds are clean and maintained once a week. I have had two maintenance requests and both have been handled within 2 days. The apartments are a little older, maybe built in the 70s. But they are clean and functional and the rent is reasonable. read more

This was the worst experience I ever had. We lived their for 10 years. The first 6 years were awesome. Then the apartment manager that was hired was substandard to put it best. If she can call herself that. Her name is Lisa and it's best if I leave her last name out. She literally stole money from us. Let me explain how. To be clear I also have video and voice calls as documentation if she decides to disagree with anything I have to say. First off when I moved in I was active military so their was no deposit needed. I lived alone so I had a one bedroom apartment. I eventually got married and had a baby. So we decided to move into a bigger apartment in the same complex. Everything was wonderful but at this time we had a different apartment manager. If we ever had a problem or needed anything it was taken care of. And for those who do move into this place the maintenance crew is great and Glen is a superb asset to this complex. So no worries there. Let me continue sorry for derailing from the point. The new manager made us sign a renewal lease and charged us a deposit this time. She claimed that since I no longer was active military the deposit waive no longer applied. Wow I had lived their for about 2 years at this point. I said fine had no choice. So I paid it plus a pet deposit because I had a acquired a cat. We moved into a 2 bedroom place at this time and had a lot of issues from the moment we moved into it. We had water pooring into the living room from the chimney and our windows had no glass on the outside. So crystals kept forming in the winter time.. Our electric bill was typically 200 to 240 dollars a month during the winter because of this. We complained and complained and after about two years of living their she finally did something about it. Next we had a broken drawer in our kitchen and a broken stove. Those were never fixed at all. I was informed by Glen that he never recieved a work order from Lisa. Wow again. Every year we would sign a new lease and under the terms we would get new blinds thst had gotten cracked or broken and our carpets steamed cleaned. Well during our last year there she did no such thing because my wife only signed a 6 month lease which led me to assume that she figured out we would be moving out. So she denied us those requests. Ten years of living their and she treated us like we were a nuisance. On the day we moved out and did our walk through she was no where around but she did send someone else with specific instructions on what to tell us. Even before we started the walk through I was informed that my two deposits would be kept from me. I recorded the entire encounter with video and was upfront about the recording and recieved consent to do so on video. Which I plan on posting to social media. I asked why considering how there was no damage to the place. They explained to me that the reason was because the blinds were broken and they would have to repaint the rooms. I was like wow I lived here for 8 years of course you have to paint. She knew what she was doing. I could not believe in the lack of integrity. My deposits totalled almost 800 dollars. I know for a fact that painting and window blinds plastic cheap ones don't cost 800 dollars. They also charged me 50 dollars for electricity because I moved out 2 weeks early from the apartment and cancelled my electricity. Which was a breach of my contract according to her. Even though I paid for a full extra month and 5 extra days of the next month. And no they did not supply me with any electricity during this time if you were wondering. In the end they sent me a bill in the mail for 18 dollars because my 800 dollars wasn't enough. Oh I forgot to mention that some of the money for the deposits was given to her cash. I later found out that the sunset apartments doesn't conduct money transactions that way. Everything should be paid by check or money order. Wow I was ignorant and taken advantage of by someone crooked and of low class. oTo those of you who plan on moving in the apartments a pretty and in a good neighborhood. But I recommend that you find a complex with a property manager that isn't a thief and practices dishonest endeavors. A total low life. read more

Worst staff ever! The manager, Lisa, is without a doubt the worst person for the job. She not only is lazy and doesn't want to do her job but she also talks down to you like she is better than you. We found this apartment only because we needed a place fast. This is the worst mistake ever. Maintenance staff is the only good thing there they have always been professional at least in my apt. If you want to deal with rude service who only care about your money then rent here. If you like something nicer keep shopping. read more
