Not for someone who has a schedule or expects a certain peacefulness at the gym. It is filled with high school kids who get a discount memnership (school across the street that I once worked at,) who have not been taught gym etrtiquette. The last 6 months parents are bringing in their middle schoolers to work out. Supposed to be over 16 yo to even be in the gym. So a lot of wasted time when you come here at full price which is $$$.. I am joining a different gym. Sunset is crowded with people who do not need to be there. PS. The annex has less equipment and very small. So bad that I never go there and it is closer to my home. read more

As they say it was a beautiful day for baseball today. And even though my son's team got eliminated earlier in the weekend I still came with him to watch the other teams play their championship games. There were 3 games going at once (different fields of course), two baseball and one fast pitch softball. I was mainly focused on the game my son was. His team lost to the Dodgers in a close 15-14 nail biter the day before, so he was wanting them to beat their opponents, the Padres. All I can say was both teams were good. Errors were made, great plays were made as well. The game actually went into extra innings 8 instead of six, with the Padres winning in the bottom of the eighth on a walk-off single. Like Jim McKay said: "The Thrill of victory, and the agony of Defeat". Luckily these kids are all friends and even after all the ups and downs, in the end they still chant the other teams name and go give high fives. We've been members for many years and like the club because of its convenience and the cost which is much lower than other fancy clubs in the area. The club is dated but we like it because it's super family-friendly! Sadly the training equipment is dated and not well maintained, and it's dirty. The cleaning ness in the locker room is terrible and despite continuous feedback and complaints nothing changes. The swim program would be excellent if only the management of it was better organized. read more

My husband and I recently joined Sunset Athletic Club and just love it! The four saltwater pools are just wonderful, the weight room has everything you need, plus lots and lots of cardio equipment with multiple TV screens. What really sets it apart is the down to earth, friendly, family feel to the place. S.A.C. does not have that corporate feel to it at all, unlike Lifetime or 24 Hour. The front desk people work there for years, which is always a good sign for a gym, and are friendly, as well as unscripted. The gym is locally owned, and the owner is often on premises, keeping an eye on things. A bonus is the sauna and jacuzzi in the locker rooms, and fresh towel service. In addition, we enjoy going to their new add-on, Club 77, which is all state of the art equipment, just for 16 and over. Worse neighbor ever! They back up to residential houses and they have no concerns about being good neighbors. Their landscaping service runs a street sweeper and leaf blowers staring at 9:00 pm every Sunday night. This goes on for an hour or more. They had a maintenance issue with their air system which causes a high pitched squeal that could be heard for blocks. This went on for a week. All calls are met with zero action and blaming their contracted companies. read more

I do not feel safe here. They eliminated Covid rules and when I voiced concerns to management was told there is nothing they can do about it which is nonsense since other businesses, including health clubs are requiring masks and distancing. SAC workout areas are often full of people not wearing masks, not keeping a safe or polite distance and not wiping down equipment. I have not seen employees sanitize equipment and some areas in the gym are downright filthy. There is an inordinate number of teenagers who work out in the weight room. They might all be fabulous people but most do not follow any type of gym ettiquette standing around equipment to chat and playing on phones while on equipment. Most do not wear a mask at all and even when masks were required they wore them on their chin. This club is expensive, they are not the only option in town and new clubs keep sprouting up so it is baffling as to why they do not value their members. read more

THE ROCK WALL: the rock wall is not a good place for people who really rock climb, but it is an EXCELLENT place for beginners. They have a very small little bouldering cave and the rope routes have auto-belays, so you clip in and go, without having another person hold your ropes. They also have an after school climbing group for middle-schoolers and maybe grade-schoolers too! NOTE for you parents, don't just drop your kids off, you have to sign a waiver for those lil uns (i.e. under 18). THE CLUB: SAC is an awesome place to be a member! The staff, including the trainers and instructors are so nice! Their amenities are very new and clean and pretty and nice and varied and coooool. The only drawback is the price, because I hear it's a little spendy, but even then if you're an active person, you will have access to salt-filtered swimming pools, basketball, rock climbing, racquetball, tennis, weights, classes, aerobic machines, etc., etc., etc! read more

Nice club here but the staff says nothing to the mask wearers that keep it below their noses. What's the point of even wearing one when you're still breathing on everyone with your nose open? Or wearing it under your chin? I know it's uncomfortable to remind grown adults how the mask is supposed to be worn because they apparently "don't know", but it's your job to enforce rules and follow the guidelines. I am loving SAC for myself and the family. It's not just a place to workout, but a center for many of our activities. The swim team is great, LOVE the outdoor pool and hot tub. Love the deck outside and use of the grills. Great rock wall in addition to everything else. Our three boys actually enjoy going to child watch "kids club". Friday nights out and crazy days for when the kids don't have school. As a former life guard and pool guy I really appreciate the saline system they use and the pools are all super clean. I will say the fitness equipment is a little dated and cramped. So if you only want a place to workout and care about that space the most... You won't get maximum value here for your membership. This place makes me think I could handle being a stay at home dad. Okay, perhaps not. But it's great to meet my wife and kids here for dinner after work. Oh, I do think members should get first sign up for swim team. I think I had to get here by 4:30 AM to be sure they had a spot. But in all, I could not be happier. It was well worth the six month wait to get in. read more

Much of the equipment is broken down. Club is not kept clean. Management just doesn't seem to care: will not fix broken equipment, offers services such as private lessons for swim, etc, when you sign up, then doesn't have the staff to follow through. Most fitness classes are geared toward seniors. Compared to other clubs, it has limited classes. I think in it's day, this was a great club. Now it seems to be slowly dying. It used to take 6-8 months to get into the club, now the wait list is just a month or two...if that. Childcare is $8 per hour, per child. It is located in a not-attached building that is an old house, musty, gross, certainly no cameras. I would never leave my kids there. you would think that since they literally had a swim instructor who was arrested for molesting kids, they would put some safeguards in. Nope. If you are a senior citizen who wants a club with lots of people your age and classes geared to you, and if you don't mind cardio machines that move, but can't adjust for incline or resistance, this is your place. OR, if you just want a tennis club, this is great. One plus, you can bring your own food to the pool in summer, and it is never crowded at the pool. There is also a climbing wall for kids, but it is open around 2-4 hours most days. For a family needing childcare, you are better to go to a club where it is included AND there are cameras, windows, or something. read more

I gave this club 5 stars to offset the reviews below. Rating an athletic club down because of their service at their food bar? We've been going here for many years. Sure, the facilities aren't all sparkly with hip designs and the latest marketing glitz. However, there is lots to do. The staff get to know you personally. It is generally well run. The owner uses his own facilities and regularly interacts with members! I think they've handled the pandemic well and I'm really glad they've made it through. I'll take a family-friendly, local, well-run place over a generic, corporate, impersonal place any day! read more

This is my local Gym that I live walking distance from my house. My family has been members off and on for over 15 years, and my wife and I are now members. It is an amazing value for a full service club. You can get a whole year at 10% off, and there is always machines available and is rarely crowded to the point where you have to make sacrifices in your work-out. The Pools are amazing, they have indoor salt-water pools that are much more enjoyable than chlorine pools. They have a bevy of classes available for all types of interests and there is a diverse and enjoyable membership base where you meet good people. It has a very neighborhood feeling to it, and is very unpretentious. I highly recommend SAC as a full service club. read more

Given all the fake reviews on Google, I feel compelled to post about SAC. I am not a member, but have visited as a guest several times, including 2x in the last year. The pros: 1. Lovely outdoor pool with filtered shade portico for lounging. Not the largest pool indoors, but still nice. Interiors are attractive too. 2. The front-line staff are very sweet, especially with kids. Friends with kids like the flexibility of their athletic camps in the summer. The cons: 1. Sometimes 1 lifeguard is expected to cover both inside and outside pools because it's slow. I don't think a pool should be unattended yet open for use. 2. Subpar administration. For a long time, SAC held a monopoly on health clubs nearby and the admin attitude reflects that. ExampleA: I was an invited guest to an event. The manager came up and lit into me about the problems occurring with the event, without even inquiring who was in charge or the situation. When I could get a word in edgewise, I directed her to the person in charge. I watched my friend give exact permissions she had obtained from SAC staff and did the manager apologize to either of us? No, she stomped off. ExampleB: On another occasion, staff struggled to enter credit card numbers, and called me 3x after the event to have me repeat my number over the phone. It kept being different staff members calling. Pay cash! Conclusion: SAC is a nice facility, but has its flaws. Also consider Bethany Athletic Club and Hawthorne Farm AC. read more

The pools here are wonderful. We take the whole family for swimming year round. They have an outdoor pool in the summer with BBQs, which is also great activity. The indoor track is above the basketball courts so the space is efficient. The down sides are that the cardio equipment is old and the weight room is a little sparse. They don't have the big machines like you would get at 24 hour fitness. Basically, this is a swim and racket club with some cardio and weights to please everyone. read more

Been traveling from Springfield to Eugene for the girls' practice every 2 weeks. Needed to find something to do for 2 hours each time. AND...my sister says all I ever post about is food so I thought I would post/yelp about the OTHER things I do. SAC is very much like Courtsports in Springfield. Nice facility with TONS of options...indoor walking, running, rock wall, cardio, weights, yoga, Pilates, group fitness, trainers, and 3 salt water pools (lap, therapy, family & hot tub). Outdoor there is tennis, more basketball, more pools and running (I think...you'll never catch me running unless it's to dinner!). You are personally greeted at the front desk and they are well staffed enough to take you on a tour. They have temporary locks (in exchange for keys or ID). Tons of large white clean towels in the locker and pool areas. Tons of clean white hand towels in the athletic areas. Locker room has tons of lockers and benches as well as a seating area with TV to keep kids busy while YOU change (moms will know what a luxury that is). There are curling irons, hair dryers, hair spray, deodorant and lotion on the many vanity counters with multiple wash basins. There are also stools so you can sit and fuss over your look if your that kinda girl . There's even a stand up tanning booth, hot tub and TONS of showers with shower soap, shampoo & conditioner. Courteous staff, happy/polite patrons, easy location just off the main highway and any kind of work out equipment you'd desire. Can't wait to go back wednesday night! read more

This is the most poorly managed business I've ever come in contact with in my 36 years of being on this planet. None of the staff seem to know what's going on half the time. It's impossible to sign up for things online or even over the phone. You have to literally go in in person to do anything. Then once you're at the front desk, the staff person there usually does not know how to help you. It's laughable how disorganized it is. I want to like this club...I really do. But literally at every turn I'm floored again by how unprofessional and difficult it is to be a member at SAC. I'm surprised anyone has the patience to be a member at a place like this. read more

I joined for the tennis, as that's all that I care about. They have 7 indoor courts, 4 new and 3 older ones. The courts are in decent shape, although the dividers and nets get worn down pretty quickly. My main complaint is that SAC allows so many members that it's not always possible to get a court to play on the weekend mornings. I can understand an occasional tournament or event that takes priority, but it's not unusual to not get a court at all. They do have organized events, like men's morning or group lessons or mixed doubles nights, etc. These are good, but cut down on the available court time if you're not participating. read more

We are taking swimming class there for our kids and disappointed at the swimming pool service. The swimming club manager Gale is just rude. I observe her yelling and barking on regular basis. On our first day we arrived 5min earlier and kids saw their friends in the small pool and joined them. Gale practically screamed across the room"you are not members! You are not allowed in the pool before the class!" The coach arrived 10min late and finished 5min earlier and not much engaged with the kids at all. After two classes a parent who has been a member there for 5 years and taken her kids for swimming class there before complained to Gale, she was told by Gale "you don't know what you are talking about!" Amazingly I saw a similar comment on yelp in October 2013 about Gale. Certainly this is not a place I would join as athletic club, not for the lack of professional service. read more

I've been a member there for 8 years, only because it is very close(blocks) from my house. One the positive side:they seem to expand their facility every few years, loads of classes at myriad times,childcare on premesis. Downside: terrible, terrible in every way customer service, unfriendly, rude at times, completely unhelpful, very little consistency in staff and no apparent training. The facility OK but the real reason for only two stars is the lack of professional management and inconsistent services. You have to call every time before you go there to make sure that the child care and pool is open as scheduled. For example during this current July heat wave the outdoor pool is CLOSED ALL WEEK! The say it is because of sunscreen in the pool??? I have called the competitors in town (Bethany) and they say they have never closed for "sunscreen". Unless you live really close, AVIOD. read more

I guess for families it would be great, but we don't have children and don't really like being around them. So this limits when we can go as it seems to be crawling with children most of the time. Good facilities 10/10 swimming, after my buds and I went to the bistro to get a pretzel, we waited almost an hour to get the microwaveable pretzel. Shortly understaffed but still we checked up on the pretzel status at least 3 times and still nothing until one of the girls was very aggressive to make sure we left with a pretzel. Point being, don't get a pretzel it takes too long and is over priced. read more

I agree with Shannon T. The members are really nice, but the management really sucks! She is absolutely correct, management does not respond to complaints or suggestions or pretends they care, but do nothing. The soap and shampoo containers are always broken, mold in showers and jacuzzi is out of commission a lot. Reserving tennis courts is really a pain in the ass and the parking lot is too small for the number of members. If you suggest they use only 4 of the courts for youth tournaments and leave the rest for paying members, they act like you are being inconsiderate. They will not reimburse or reduce monthly fees if the courts are unavailable. Sometimes you can only get a court 2 or 3 times a month because they are too "booked up". read more

My children have literally grown up attending SAC and it has been an amazing resource to let them explore and pursue a wide variety of fitness/athletic pursuits. I've been to Sunset Athletic Club on several occasions and every time it has been a success, except for my most recent trip. My colleague and I ordered one pizza each (which by the way were excruciatingly petite), we were told by the employee that they were to take around 10-15 to be delivered to us. This was proved true as we received the pizza in about 13 minutes. We both finished our pizzas extremely quickly as they were not even the size of a regular dinner plate. When the pizzas were gone, we found that we were still hungry and proceeded to order another pizza each. During this process we were mocked and utterly humiliated in front of our peers for ordering a second pizza. We shamefully handed the cashier our money and were told it would take the same amount of time. THIS WAS INCORRECT. After about 25 minutes I started to wonder if the employees had forgotten my pizza, not wanting to be rude I did not bring it to their attention and waited another 20 minutes. Of course we both thought this was an ABSURD amount of time for a TINY pizza I gave one of the employees a devilish glare through the glass which he received shyly. Five minutes later the pizzas were delivered. Worst experience of my life. read more

This is the worst club ever. They have very dirty locker rooms. Their machines are never wiped down unless a member does it. The weight room is always in total disarray. And their pool director runs the facility like it is a sovereign nation. All in all the only reason to join is in the summer for the outdoor pool but use it a lot because it is expensive. read more

My family has been a member of SAC for 15 years. Over that time period we have been impressed with the interest of the managment to expand offerings to appeal to the club membership. This is a very family oriented place with options to appeal to all ages. I love seeing gray haired women playing tennis with teenagers and all ages enjoying the fabulous pools and all ages and genders doing Zumba with Kristen or the many work out classes. The pools are the true gem here-- clean, inviting, indoor with no chlorine and the outdoor play area in the summer for kids cannot be beat. The party room for events is superb, I had my retirement party there and it was perfect-- Jennifer provides excellent service to make your event be just as you hoped. read more

Old tennis players at SAC are very cranky, rude, and complainers. They complain to administration office if your child misbehave or make noises in the court sometimes. Then SAC will terminate your membership w/o any warning w/o refund of the intial membership fee (1000) - Management is the worst ever, they don't know how to deal with these situations. People steal the valuable items, so watch out! This is not a good tennis place for junior tennis. read more

We've been members for over 2 years at Sunset Athletic Club and it's our experience that the club is neglected, unsanitary and poorly run. I've informed onsite staff several occasions the mold build up in the women's locker shower stalls. This is the thick black mold that cover the grout in between tiles. The family shower room outside the pool area often is wet and dirty with urine on the floor. My child slipped and fell on his head and when i reported the incident to staff onsite, he ignored us. The walls and ceiling is moldy. The pool is run by young staff who would rather surf on their mobile devices than ensure safe swimming environment for patrons. One time, one of the young staffers was cleaning the pool deck and spayed dirt and grim directly into pool while patrons were swimming in it. They appear to be inconsistent and selectively in enforcing policy. For these reasons I gave it 2-star. read more

wow, poor reviews spot on. great location, layout, swim facilities. just very, very, poorly managed. swim center jacuzzi down every 4 weeks or so. each time: know when it'll be fixed? "I dunno, i think they have to order a part". This has been going on for YEARS. No hot water (never water pressure) from swim center showers today? Once got berated by a towel laundry girl for not checking in at front desk. Must be a nepitism issue with this place. Just so lacidaisical. Hope this place can stay afloat and IMPROVE to deliver value.... notwithstanding absentee ownership, leadership, management of facilities. read more
