It's a family-owned private gym and athletic training studio that recently went through a remodel and added more equipment--which was awesome to see. I did a drop-in session, but they also offer monthly memberships, one-on-one training, group training, and nutrition planning. During my visit, I got the chance to talk with two of the trainers. They were incredibly knowledgeable--not just about fitness and training, but also about proper nutrition and hormone health. That kind of insight is exactly what I look for in a gym and in a trainer. Nutrition and hormonal balance are key to real lifestyle changes. It's not always about pushing heavy weights--it's about finding the right balance. I really appreciated the energy at PDX Muscle. The gym is clean, welcoming, and there are no cliques. Everyone was friendly, and you can tell the owners and staff genuinely know what they're doing. I got a personal trainer. With two little ones, I decided it's time I get healthier. But, what do I know about fitness?! From day 1 - I was put at ease by Nick. He met with me, talked to me about my goals and discussed what sort of options were available to me. He never once made me feel like it was a hard sell - more, he was here to answer my questions and encourage me. Most importantly, he assured me that this wasn't going to be something that was going to drive me away. The team was going to work with me at my pace. I decided I'd go three mornings a week - totally crazy, right?! Now, I work with Vince three early mornings a week. Vince is awesome! He's fun to work with, super knowledgeable - always taking the time to explain things to me. And, most importantly, he's encouraging. I'm nowhere NEAR as advanced as some of the people I see, but Vince makes me feel like I have a place there. Just a few months ago, I would have NEVER thought you'd EVER find me in a gym. Now, I look forward to going!

The coaches do a great job of helping you with your technique when needed, but also stepping back so you can focus on your workout. There's a different workout every day so it never gets too routine. They have a nice variety of early morning and later in the afternoon. I love that the workouts are exactly 45 minutes. For some reason it's less of a mental barrier to show up and go hard for 45 minutes vs an hour. Guess that means I'll never join an F60.

Eveyone else is telling me, too, and I've gone down at least 4 sizes. Trisha is really key in making this work. She's encouraging, she's sweet, and she's not a mean drill seargent, but you will want to do what she says, even though these workouts are really hard. And it's more than the workouts, you also track your food and turn it in every week, and do stuff to get to the root of what you need in order to make changes, you all work together. Don't worry, this is not about you being good or bad...it's just about helping you get where you want to be, and you'll get out what you put into it - you might even find yourself putting more into it than you thought you would! And liking it! This can help you make permanent changes. You are not too out of shape for this. Trisha will meet you where you are. It's totally worth it.

Trisha is a motivating and skilled instructor, both in exercise as well as nutrition. She keeps the work out fun but incredibly challenging. I have never worked so hard and never felt so good. Getting up in the dark to go work out feels like a drag when my alarm first goes off, but by the time I join this wonderful group of women I feel pumped and full of energy. I feel even better once the workout is over, knowing I have worked so hard and accomplished physical and mental feats I never thought possible for me. Cons: The studio and individual pods were frequently unclean, with hair and dust visible. The shower was more often dirty than clean. Most importantly, two critical contract terms were never disclosed at sign-up. First, you cannot cancel before completing five months, yet staff told me cancellation was possible at any time. Second, after one year and nine months of membership, when I submitted a cancellation request with a doctor's recommendation, I was informed that two additional months of payment are required regardless of whether you continue attending. Regarding the workout system itself: the videos offer three difficulty levels and often include form explanations, which is a plus. However, in roughly half the cases the instructor's verbal cues contradict what they are actually doing on screen. For example, instructions about parallel hips, spinal alignment, or proper squat depth are frequently ignored by the demonstrators themselves. Someone following visually without a background in yoga or fitness training would easily pick up incorrect form without realizing it. Poor alignment can ultimately cause more harm than the exercise does good.

The heat is so intense that it even fries your hair if you're not careful. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a real gym or a positive fitness environment.

A manager handled a simple membership dues issue by yelling across the entire gym floor that my partner "could not work out until a fee was paid." This was done loudly, publicly, and with zero respect. My partner and I are both long-time Crunch members, and no one should be treated like that over a billing question. It was embarrassing to watch and even worse to experience. Situations like that should be handled privately and professionally, not broadcast across a room full of people. What made it more concerning is that employees mentioned this manager has a pattern of yelling at staff as well. If that is true, it is a serious culture problem, not just a one-time mistake. Crunch promotes a welcoming environment, but this was the exact opposite. I will be following up with management directly, but this needs to be addressed immediately. No member or employee should be treated this way.
