He said "yes, yes" and immediately started trying to lift the boat by the rudder, which would destroy the rudder and severely damage the hull. I had to scream at them to get them to stop. I should have cancelled everything there and left. Talking to Anji on the phone before hand, a few weeks before then the day before coming in, I asked if they could do the work I needed done and if they had the capacity (no one else did but I should have just waited, but someone I trusted recommended them). Anji said yes, yes, they can work on my boat and fix the stern tube leak. After the haul out, he spent probably half an hour talking with me. Since my haul out, I've seen him do this with everyone -- he likes to schmooze. I've seen him talk to wealthy boat owners and paint rosy pictures repeatedly as nothing was done on their boat. Again I went over the work that I wanted them to do and what I knew about the problem, but Anji's mechanic compatriot hadn't heard a word of what Anji promised but left with "yeah, if you want us to do it, we can do it", but then said he needed to think about it. I paid for a week of time in the yard for him to think about it, assuming that that meant he would actually take a look at the boat to estimate work. This is radically different than boat yards with a staff of mechanics and boatswains with a service writer. It turned in to chasing them around the yard and them being annoyed to see me and giving more rules about interrupting them (even to ask them to please come by when they have time and talk to me was unacceptable). There's a horrible conflict of interest here. You pay per day while the boat is in the yard, so if you pay to wait for them to do work, they have no incentive to do work. Your boat is essentially held hostage. My leak was minor and I could have and should have launched again but pride told me that I should fix my own boat. Anji, after I arrived, told me that the yard is open "from 9 till 5... or 6". Several times before 6, I was locked in and had to jump the gate to get out. Then eventually it was changed to 5pm, strictly enforced. Previously on weekends, a pretty large group of people would work late wrapping up until 7 or 8, and that's when I got most of the work done (I often have day-job tasks on Sat and Sun). I spent $1,800 for a bit over two months of yard time, probably close to as much at the hardware store buying tools like gear pullers for the prop that I hadn't planned to buy, gas for a long commute from the city and rental cars. It would have been cheaper to have paid a boat yard with an actual service dept to do the work. Ski boats and sporty motorboats got a different treatment, and one other person in the yard confirmed that: Anji loves the fancy new small motorboats. Often there's no one around the front of the yard where the sheds are that they fix those on, so it seems like they bring in independent people as they need. Then sometimes there's a few people there working on boats. This is during the week. Likewise it was a month before anyone picked up trash and there was a new lady doing that (cans were long overflowing and flies were swarming). Then I didn't see her for weeks then they had her standing a boat. It really seems like there are two co-owners or an owner and one employee, and everyone else is a temp. Looking back, the handful of positive reviews about the new ownership were all from people with expensive new small ski boats. The front yard/shed and back yard are completely different universes. When they blocked me, they tried to block under the centerboard until I stopped them, then I was left listing to port and pointing down an incline to the point where plastic bottles would fall over. The grand finale was the launch. Since I came in, a very large wooden boat was placed partially blocking me. The whole yard is a jigsaw puzzle and almost no boat can be launched again after you're there for a month because what you thought was a path for the TravelLeft in front of you fills with boats. In the process of trying to maneuver the TravelLift to get me out, my Harken MKIII (high end but previous generation) roller furler was smashed and rigging hit hard enough to loosen. They had no interest in providing insurance info and kept trying to tell me that the rigging is "very tough" and offered to unbend the furler with a clamp and forgive the last few days ($140) worth of yard time, demonstrating a profound ignorance of sailboats whose rigging is akin to a violin. I've seen enough dinghies dismasted after shrouds hit the hoist to believe everything is fine. That's going to cost a *lot*. But part of me is happy just to be out of there. tl;dr both myself and my boat were treated as completely expendable from the start and I paid more than a real boat yard would charge for them to wreck my boat.

They close at 5 so all rentals have to be back by 4:30, which is really early when the sun is up til past 8... We called multiple times in advance and no one told us about this until we showed up at 11:30 and had no option but to keep our boat for only 3 hours (although we paid for 4). The paperwork and delivery of the boat took well over an hour (they gave our boat to someone else, so we had to wait for a new one to be pulled and put into the water. A lady at the front seemed to know this, the other lady clearly said "don't worry, they'll deal with this at the dock" to her. I'm sure if she had warned the dock guy we wouldn't have had to wait so long. So plan ahead for these things. It's a $30 fee if you return your boat past 4:30. We were late, we made a stink about it, which I think was reasonable considering that we had our boat for less than 4 hours and again, NO ONE warned us about this before making the drive out there and this wasn't on their website. The rest of the staff did the minimum. No customer service awards, that's for sure. This place is good enough. Their rental prices are reasonable, and they don't really have any competition in the area, so it's fine. I'll likely return in the future. Again, only because there is no alternative in the area, but they don't try particularly hard. Hopefully my experience is better next time. I didn't get to try the food at the restaurant, although it seemed to have a good selection.

Warning if you plan on living on your boat…read moreat brentwood marina and have cats, don't let your cat out of your boat because the owners let their dogs kill cats. I'm not sure if they still drown cats that they catch in traps, I know they use to. One of my cats disappeared I can only pray that their dogs didn't get a hold of it. Not only is that animal cruelty it is illegal! They say it is a family atmosphere yet one of the owners sons is not allowed there. The marina is on private property, that is the loop hole they use to make up their own rules as they go along. Be careful they are very nice "at first". You will probably be okay if you don't bring guests. (What is the purpose of having your boat at a marina if the owners are going to pick and choose if and when you can have guests?). That is my opinion from my own experiences while living at the marina. The problems started when I called the sheriff because I had a guest come from Tahoe and She needed to use the restroom. She was stopped by one of the owners and was told the bathrooms are for paying tenants and they made her leave. A couple days later they gave me a 30 day notice to vacate and told several of the other tenants that they need to make sure there boats are registered (which mine has always been registered) because the sheriffs are going to be coming and they can thank Dana for that. When other tenants were seen coming to my boat Pete would tell them they better pick sides. Pete said he is getting rid of the Bleeders. (People that stand up for themselves?) I felt like I was dealing with third graders! Unreal...
