I'm not really sure how to write a review for this, but I'll give it a try. I purchased a groupon for this place and was excited to use it. Seamless scheduling process is the only positive i can provide for this place. And i hate reading reviews where people just complain...so I'll do my best to not sound that way. I purchased a hot-stone massage, which is more than a standard massage. We discussed this before the massage, but she "forgot" to give me a hot stone massage. She told me that if i schedule again, she'll give ma a complementary upgrade. Now, its not really a complementary upgrade when i already paid for it! I emailed Sunset Massage for a refund of the services not provided, and i got a short email back telling me to contact Groupon (no apologies for the poor service, or any other inquiries...just to contact Groupon). Now, my family genes are such that the men have hairy legs (really, not that unusual for men to have hair on their legs). But it does not warrant a "wow, have you ever considered mowing the grass" from your "massage therapist" as she is massaging your legs. Right!? And then she went on to tell me how weird my feet are, and proclaimed that after the hundreds of feet she has seen, she's never seen feet like mine, they are the "weirdest feet" she said to me. Folks, i have 4 really long toes, and one really short pinkie toe. Get over it. And when the next appointment arrived and she heard the door ringer go off in lobby, she stopped my massage, OPENED THE DOOR and told the person to have a seat and that she'll be right out...all the while there i am laying on massage table for the person to see. LOL. at this point, I'm just like 'get me outta here, this place is creepy!' and was happy to be done. good thing i have a sense of humor and can get a chuckle out of it all. She gave me a tiny dixie cup filled with water (seriously, I've gotten shots at TGI Fridays with more liquid in it) and told me to be sure I'm peeing once an hour. Enough already. She also told me that her massage would be significantly better than any massage I've ever gotten at Massage Envy or Elements Massage. Which, I have to agree with her on! At those places I'm treated with respect, i get the product i pay for, and the environment is warm, comfortable, and welcoming. So I'm sorry if you purchased a groupon here, i hope your experience is better than mine! read more

It was a really lousy experience. The place was dirty, cheap and hastily thrown together - NOT making me feel relaxed. Black polyester sheets on the massage bed - seriously? Was there a thrift shop sale on 70's merchandise? The masseuse did not have lotions - only oils. What masseuse does not have lotions? The massage was not relaxing but rather painful. I asked her to change her style, and stop poking into me like I was Thnanksgiving turkey - she refused: she said this is the massage she does. I left 30 minutes into it - it was so bad, it was not worth staying for. All in all, it was not worth even the Groupon priced $30 - I certainly would NOT go there again. read more

I don't write reviews for places very often, but this was rather out of the ordinary. Like Steve W., I also purchased a Groupon for this. I have some lower back/hip pain (not sciatica, but my illiosacral joint) due to some mild scoliosis and just the general fact that people in my family have bad backs and necks. I was hoping to get that relived. The positive (and reason for 2 stars instead of one) is that the massage itself was excellent. I was surprised to find I have a massive knot of tension near my spine, and it was worked on really well. I bought deep-tissue massage, and it was deep-tissue, the way I like it! The negative: also like Steve, my massage therapist had a lot of comments on my body. Full disclosure: I've been diagnosed with BDD, and have a lot of issues with body image. After commenting on my initials, and how when said together they sound like another word for "urine," (gee, yeah, like I'd never noticed that before), the therapist commented constantly on how thin/skinny I was. I'm actually at a healthy weight right now, and I lift weights seriously, so I'm pretty strong. She said that it's hard to massage smaller people because don't have "enough to work with," and it's hard to do heavier people because they have too much fat. !!!! When she worked on my neck, she said, "boy, you need to eat more!" Really? Why would you ever say anything like that, especially when you don't know what people are dealing with in their lives? I would think that a massage therapist would promote body-positivity. When she uncovered my back, she asked if I was cold. I said no, I was actually a little warm (typical for me--always warm!). She said, "Oh, thin people are always cold. You'll get cold." Um. No. Actually, I'm kinda warm. Evidently I might also get bunions, thanks to her examination of my feet. I don't wear heels or tight shoes, soooo. It was really the strangest, and most uncomfortable thing. I'm pretty shy, and when you're lying naked on a table, it's hard to pipe up and say, "Hey, I have a lot of issues with weight, so could you not comment?" If the massage were silent, and not so judgey, this would have been a LOT better. read more

NEVER GOING BACK! RACIST MASSEUSE! I got this scheduled from a Groupon. I got there on time. The masseuse just got there and was late to open the shop. So my massage started late. And here's where the racism happened: 1. Right when I got on the table, she asked if I was Hmong. I said I was Chinese. She said "You know you can be Hmong and Chinese at the same time." I know my nationality. Do not correct me. 2. Then she compliments me "Your English is very good." I said I was born here. Don't think she heard me. 3. She finishes with "You use 'and', 'or' and 'but' very good. Some don't. They say 'what you doing?' instead of 'what are you doing?'" and then she laughs. She questions me on knowing what I am, thinks it's good to compliment a 'foreigner' for mastering her English and then makes fun of non-English speakers. I would've walked out of there right then but I didn't think I would get my money back from this Groupon. Oh, and I'm pregnant so then she complains about how I'm ruining her method since she's not used to giving prenatal massages. You should. You're the masseuse. My recommendation: NEVER GO THERE! I've been going to Jane for about 3 years and absolutely LOVE her massages! I go every 2 weeks and her massages help me stay healthy. She always enquires if any particular body area needs attention and is careful to make sure she takes care of the problem. The room is always carefully prepared to minimize noise and to maintain a pleasant temperature winter or summer. She always offers me a choice of scents to use and is very attentive if I tell her that a certain spot feels sensitive and changes the pressure to accomodate me. I plan on continuing my massage every 2 weeks with her, so as you might guess, I am a very happy and satisfied customer! read more

I purchased the massage on groupon. I was very surprised when I arrived at the address. A Post-it note greeted me at the door stating that the STE moved to the basement. Next to the stairway was a small room- I had to wait in a public hallway and could hear every word that was said by Jane and the client before me. Therefore, I was not surprised that I could hear people passing in the hall, sneezing, and giggling during my massage. The traffic outside, on the stairs, and the stairway door were also distracting. I've had a number of deep-tissue massages before. Jane does it differently-it is more of large pinching/pulsing instead of deep, slow, and smooth strokes. While my muscles felt less tight, I wasn't really relaxed at the end. She even forgot to warm up the hot stones before I came, so couldn't even have them for my massage. She offered them for the last 15 min, but I declined- I couldn't see paying extra for stones only at the end. Another thing-I'm not much for talking during my massage-I keep quiet and try not to answer. Jane liked to talk and spent the first 10 min of my massage trying to tell me the benefits regular massages and the packages she would offer. She didn't stop babbling until I said that I like massages because, "I like the quiet." I had planned to give a massage to my husband for his birthday, but I can't send him there. Jane said she's switching to a new STE, but it is down only one room, so I think noise would still be a problem. I would suggest switching buildings (I went the the 76th street location), and keeping the talk at a minimum. read more

Awful! I also purchased via Groupon. The therapist was 5+ minutes late and the door was locked. I almost left! Once they arrived, I was led into the waiting area. The massage room was hot - no AC in the room. The music was only in the waiting area, not the room so I could hear a loud conversation going on outside. The therapists hands reeked of cigarette smoke - not plesant or relaxing. And worst of all I was shorted on time and didn't even recieve 60 minutes of massage. I will not be back. read more

I wish I could give NEGATIVE stars!!!!! Horrible experience! They have very limited hours and only allow groupon clients daytime appointments. On 5/8/12 I scheduled an appointment through their website (which is the only way to schedule) at their "new" Whitefish Bay location. Because this was during the day I had to make arrangements with my employer for a day where it was ok for me to leave early. I made my appointment for 7/18/12 at 2pm (yesterday). I arrived to the location at 1:50pm to find a small, very warm, but still pleasant room that had a small couch, chair and two doors. One door said "massage in session" so I took a seat and began to wait. By 2:30pm, when I still had not come in contact with anyone,I attempted to contact the available numbers on their website only to get voicemail. I continued to wait. At 2:50pm, after waiting now one entire hour, the therapist (who is apparently also the owner, Karla) came out of the massage room asking if I was the 3pm client. I explained to her that I was scheduled for 2pm and had been waiting. She was very rude and informed me that she purchased this location in June of this year (after I had scheduled my appointment) and all "groupon clients" were to be contacted to change location. I was very upset by this, especially since I had made arrangements with my work and for my children to be able to come to my very first massage. She could offer me no assistance and instructed me to contact the telephone number I had already tried several times. She then suggested I text the number, which she reported "having better luck with." I did so and heard nothing for several hours. When I did receive a text message back there was NO apology. It simply said "you were supposed to be emailed to change location. I will have Rachel, your therapist, contact you and we will add a free 30 minutes to your massage." It is now a day later and I have yet to here from this Rachel person. The location they would like to change me to is not convenient and has horrible reviews which is why I chose not to schedule there initially. I am very displeased with this situation. Not only did I not receive the services, but the customer service is TERRIBLE and I do not wish to conduct any type of business with them, ever. I have reported them to Groupon and asked for a refund. Please do not waste your time or money. I cannot believe they have been in business since 1999. What a joke! read more

Jane's massages are the best! I have been going to her for at least five or more years, at different locations. I currently go every two weeks to the Prospect Avenue location, which is very convenient for me. She always begins by asking if there is a particular area that needs special attention. She's successfully resolved many aches and pains for me over the years! Jane takes her cues from her clients as to whether they wish to converse at all during the session and honors one's wishes if silence is desired. Her room is very pleasant and conducive to relaxation. I've given my son gifts of massages, and he loves them as well. I look forward to my regular appointments and know that I reap the benefits of these in terms of my overall well-being. read more

I purchased a massage on groupon. I had called Jane to confirm my appointment, only to drive 40 minutes in a snowstorm to no one there! I was so livid. So, I wasted a Friday night driving in an attempt to relax and was only left more stressed. What made it worse, is that Jane is now offering me a 90 minute massage and I do not wish to return. I have requested a refund and $25 cancellation, just as they would have done if I was a 'no show.' The building was loud, old and unkempt. Zero stars! Ladies, this is not a luxurious spa retreat! I am sometimes wary with purchasing massages or nail services through groupon, and dumbly I thought this place would be more legit since it had multiple locations so it had to be legit, and nice, right? WRONG. My first impression was not good. When I checked in and was getting to know my massage therapist Dana, she asked me what I did for a living. (Social worker.) Her response to this, was to say "as my grandma used to say, if you don't work, you don't eat!" Now, I understand everyone has different political views, etc etc, but you don't know me from Adam, or exactly what field in social work I am in. How dare you insult my profession and my clients, within the first two minutes of meeting me? Not professional at all. I wanted to walk out right then and there, but decided to stay and get my massage since I had already purchased my groupon. I was led into the massage room. Tile floor, with a somewhat questionable carpet covering some of the tile. Changed and then laid down on sheets best described as best for a toddler bed. Ladies, I don't know about you but if I'm paying decent money I would like a somewhat spa quality experience, with some nice white sheets. These sheets had mutil colored balls on them. After laying there face down for a bit, she knocked on the door and with an atttitude asked eveything ok in here? Umm...yes, just waiting for you! So the basic massage was...ok. I felt she was a bit rough. And not in pressure, just with handling my limbs and things in general. Multiple times she was say, just relax! Well, I'm trying to except you are kind of man handling me! And the chatter! she didn't talk the whole time, what when she did I couldn't believe what she felt like she had to say! From talking about her schizophrenic relative (so glad when he moved out, all he did was smoke cigs and drink mt dew!?) To her bragging about having a car and a motorcycle, to her weirdly asking for compliments on how she was doing (do you like this? How about this?) Um yes?? Well, you said this was close to work, you said you like my touch, and then on and on about their massage packages. I couldn't wait to get out of there. The final straw was when she opened the door to poke her head out and tell the next customer it would be just a min...while I'm lying on the bed naked??? I used a Groupon here. The scheduling process was easy with the web-based system. But that is where the positives ended. The environment was not conducive to relaxation. It was cold in the room and the music in the room was very loud. I also did not think the stones were hot enough as she had left them piled next to my head and let them cool there. My therapist was not very friendly and the service that I bought was not good. I left feeling very weird about the whole situation- I have never had a bad hot stone massage (I've had several) and felt pretty ripped off by the whole process. read more

I purchased a message from this place through groupon and owe was I unhappy. First of all I called in to make an appointment and was told to make sure that I am on time and that if I need to reschedule I need to give the company at least 24 hours notice. That would have not been a problem had I had an issue with the appointment. So I live in Grafton, WI which is 30 minutes away from Milwaukee, WI. I come all the way here on a Saturday morning to find that there is no one here to give me a message. I call the person that I made the appointment with and their voicemail comes on stating that they do not work on the weekends and may check the voice messages or may not. So I look up the other office on Greefield. I call the number they have listed and leave a message. Neither office return my calls. I had to contact groupon and request my money back. This company is very unprofessional and does not care about the clients that they service. This would have been my first experience with this company but it never took place. When I looked at their website I was disappointed as well. The website states that they do not call and let the client know if the appointment needs to be rescheduled due to illness of the employees. This is so not how a place of business should be ran. I would suggest that anyone that is looking for a message from a place of peace and professionalism DO NOT COME HERE.
