I cant thank Dr. Metten and Shelly enough. Shelly, you are so amazing. Knowing I had to put my baby down and our primary vet was ill, you were a life savior. I dudnt want to drop off my baby to pass, I wanted her to be at home. Thank you for your help. Dr. Metten and his grandson were both so compassionate to me and my family. Madison was well taken care of and I'm forever grateful.

For having to put a dog down, it was as good as it could have been. The doctor and Shelly were so kind and caring. They even came over quite late on a work night since we were so desperate. Thank you!

I never could have imagined how difficult saying goodbye to our beloved Henry was going to be, but one thing that put our mind at ease was being able to let him pass peacefully in his home. From the moment I called, Shelley was kind and sympathetic. Dr. Metten was able to come at short notice early on a Sunday morning. He was gentle with our sweet boy and was able to put him to rest quickly and painlessly. We received a handwritten note a few days later which was so thoughtful. Our Henry's ashes were returned to us in a beautiful wooden box, along with his paw print. Everyone at Sunset Pet are angels for doing what they do. I could not recommend them more. Thank you for helping us during an incredibly difficult time.

Dr. METTEN was wonderful. I had to put my beautiful chocolate lab down on short notice. My 3 year old lab was suffering from stage 4 lymphoma and I knew I had limited time. My sweet boy turned for the worst one day and I knew it was the right time before he began to suffer. I called this office in the morning(sunday), and Dr. Metten was able to come in the afternoon. He brought a young vet student with him which was helpful. The at home euthansia is less stressful for sick animals. I am thankful I found this compassionate vet to come on short notice.

I highly recommend Dr. Metten and his wife Shelley. The service they provided was compassionate and caring during a difficult time for me. I appreciated the comfort our home provided when my 15 1/2 year old pup passed over the rainbow bridge. Thank you very much!

I can't say enough good things about the home services that Sunset Pet Veterinary Care provides. Between the initial calls and visit, follow-up calls and then the final visit, he enabled one of our pack members to go peacefully in his own bed surround by all his pack members. They made a very tough situation a little easier for our family. They followed up with hand written card about a week later. Very caring and compassionate.

My sweetest baby. He was a good boy for a long time.

I knew it was time for my baby to go, but I was panicked because I couldn't find a euthanasia service still making house calls during Covid. I had called so many providers and they were all not doing home visits. I really thought I would have no choice but to drive him to the vet and send him in without his family to hold his hand. The relief washed over me as soon as I spoke with Shelly on the phone. My Sullivan was in a bad way, but they were going to make sure he had a comfortable and safe euthanasia at home where he knew he was loved and safe. She was so sweet and reassuring and explained all the details in the kindest way. Dr. Metten and his assistant, Enzo, arrived at our appointment time the next day, masked and taking all COVID precautions. They were so compassionate and professional. They carried out the procedure calmly and with utmost care, and had so many reassuring words for our grieving family. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the fact that I didn't have to say goodbye to my buddy in a veterinary parking lot, or leave him alone with strangers and allow him to be frightened or feel abandoned in his time of need. We got to give him the dignified send-off he deserved after so many years of providing us with affection, love and entertainment.

I just want to say thank you to Dr. Metten, Shelly, and their grandson for helping us through this hard time. Despite having to say goodbye to my beagle girl of almost 16 years, Zoe, Dr. Metten and his team made the whole experience as easy as possible and were so incredibly kind throughout. I seriously don't know what we would have done without them. A sincere thank you and bless you for what you do.

This review is a year late. A year ago, around the holidays, after having recently moved to N .County, my cat of 18 years quickly declined in health. I was an emotional wreck and wasn't sure how to move forward. I called several veterinarians as it was looking more and more likely that I was going to have to say goodbye to my sweet Gus. Dr. Metten and his wife, Shelley, were a Godsend. They were authentic, compassionate and caring. They were immediate with their ability to be physically present and sensitive to the emotional turmoil I felt. Gus crossed the rainbow bridge in the comfort of his home with Dr. Metten's help. I could not have asked for a more compassionate, caring team in the wake of such a painful parting.

I am most thankful with connecting with Shelly and Dr. Metten. In hope that my sweet Sanchi cat at 20 years old would fall a sleep in her final days I could never think of euthanization-since I never experienced that with a pet. My first cat who lived till 19 yrs fell asleep and passed. It was a blessing to know how much love and care that Shelly and Dr Metten bring to such heartful , difficult moment. Everything is explained in full detail. They are there 24/7 for you each moment as needed. To me they are Angels on earth to help our pets make a peaceful transition. The process completely changed my view on euthanization. Dr Metten shared his journey to India as I had pictures of India Masters in the room and chant music on which Sanchi cat enjoyed. Knowing he was bringing this energy to the experience made it even more healing. As she received the first injection to prepare to sleep I sensed her spirit rising in preparation for her body to pass on. Knowing that Sanchi's spirit is reborn brings a sense of peace to the experience. Shelly and Dr Metten are passionate and dedicated to their service. They care about you as much as they care about your pet. I would highly recommend Sunset Pet Care.

My 11 year old dog has a history of very aggressive MCTs, and Dr. Proulx has helped us put him on a fantastic regimen that has prevented any new tumors from appearing for 15 months, while minimizing dosages for steroids. Dr. Proulx is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He answers all of my questions thoughtfully, even when I call from home because I'm a nervous dog mom. We just took my dog to the urgent care this weekend, and it was a great experience. I called in advance to say I was coming up, and they were able to see him right away. They had great bedside manner, thoroughly explained our options for next steps, proactively provided cost transparency, and offered follow up appointments. They also helped me prioritize what was needed so I could decide what to schedule with my pcp to save some money - it's clear they aren't trying to take advantage of you! We saw Dr. Vezeleva, and I can't recommend her enough. When we were done speaking with the care staff, I asked the front desk if I could take my dog to the car to wait while they filled a prescription for me - they immediately brought him out so he could wait comfortably, and they even met me at my car to get me when everything was ready so that the end process as seamless as possible.

They had me wait in the waiting room for hours on end, and after hours of waiting on my cat(who was in critical condition), I asked for an update and they said it would be a couple more hours. When I got him back, it seemed like he was kept in his crate and not monitored. They charged me for the checkup ($180), tests and medicine, no X-rays... They did not give me the results for the test until I called and asked the next day. They also were supposed to fill a prescription that never happened. That was about $700. Again, told me it was STRESS that affects his ability to pee. We go to another vet and they immediately find crystals in his urine and know he is blocked. He also has a UTI. He could've died. Waste of money and time. Lots of other people have said their pets of died because of the care here. Sad as fuck.

I am now at a different vet who we LOVE, but our experience here at Bressi was never personable, and I always felt like I had to fish information out of the vet and the techs. Huge lack of follow up and communication as well. When I asked a question I was often met with, "oh it should be fine" "I'm not sure, let me go check." With my dog getting older, I did not trust her in their hands any longer based on my experience. Dr. Lax misdiagnosed my Australian shepherds back pain. I was told she may need to see a neurologist because of a spinal issue and that she should no longer jump up and down. When going to our new vet, he reviewed the x ray they took and said because of them not sedating her, the reason they gave that diagnosis is because she probably moved during the x ray. New vet did a thorough exam and she has been fine, no issues. I also recently found out that when they extracted some of her teeth 2 years ago, they left some roots in there which the new vet is now removing so they do not become infected or abscess. I would have understood if there was some reason why they left them in there...but the lack of transparency and lack of communication is what I don't appreciate. Huge opportunity here at this vet!

They sedated him bcuz he was stressed and then handed me a dog with little to no instructions except "if his tongue turns blue get him to an emergency vet". He's a French bulldog and if anyone knows this breed, they have a really hard time coming out of sedation. Theo was OUT! He wasn't eating or drinking so I kept calling to ask questions since I was never given any after care instructions (minus the "if his tongue turns blue takes him to an emergency vet"). Monday it started, by THURSDAY when I was the only one calling them...I had enough. No one EVER called to schedule his surgeries, I called Monday evening, Tuesday, Wednesday and THURSDAY. Every time to be told by (even the doctor) they'd call me back, no one ever called. The excuses were endless. While they didn't charge me for anything except the exam, I would not recommend taking your pet here. Thursday AFTERNOON I was told they wanted to switch doctors bcuz Dr Southern (I think that's her name) was "more hands on" but I had already told the front desk around 8a-9a that's day I'd never let them touch my dog again. Clearly the communication is lacking there. Denise* also had an attitude because I asked what my bill was and in which she replied "I'm not getting into it with you." So when it comes to your pet or the bill, Denise has no time or patience for customers. Frustration doesn't even begin to cover what I felt. I found another vet to to do his surgeries...$3000 LESS than Mohnacky and they specialize in the French Bulldog breed. I won't even get into the what Mohnacky was going to charge me...I had a few vets look the estimate I was given by Mohnacky and they were all in disbelief. My quote from Mohnacky was $5575 without his teeth cleaning (another $487 on top of $5575). I paid $3025 for neuter, removal of bladder stones, teeth cleaning and teeth extractions and labs at a vet in San Diego. The new vet also didn't charge me for X-rays since Mohnacky wasn't sharing my dogs medical record with them and they said it was not mine or my dogs fault. I had to call Mohnacky to finally ask for his records, I was put on hold and then hung up on. When I called again I told them I couldn't hold and the girl knew exactly who I was without me even saying a word, with a sigh she said "this is for Theo?" I got the email; they did not email the new vet as they said they would. Mohnacky also changes vets so much, my dog has seen Dr. Saaco, Dr. Yaeger, Dr Bulliard, another at vista I don't remember his name and then Dr. George in a span of 2yrs. I asked the front desk if they rotated doctors through their facilities, she said no. Dr Saaco has been the only one I've liked but she is no longer there and has her own practice in San Marcos. A LOT of red flags! I personally will ever take another pet here or any other Mohnacky in North County. I wouldn't allow them to change my goldfish's water honestly.
