Most sites are seasonal and folks have kept things clean and neat. We stayed 7 nights and were in site 2 (by the office) then in site 29 (in the fields). Going off season (late Sept - early Oct) is best as this campground is on a beautiful lake for swimming and kayaking (which we did and saw eagles and loons), but, could get pretty crazy busy in summertime. Bathrooms are in need of an upgrade but there was plenty of hot water! We would stay here again if passing through, lots to explore with Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge near by and St. Stephen New Brunswick, the chocolate capital of Canada !

The reason I give this 5 stars is the owners. They were exceptional! We came to this campground on our way to Canada because our Heartland RV frame fell apart on the highway. We limped into this campground since it was the closest one we could find. They put us in a spot that was easy to get into and let us stay as long as we needed while we sorted things out with the RV. It turned out the RV was totaled. We are full-timers and had to move out of it and leave it stored there. The owners were so kind and patient with us while it was stored there for months while we tried to get some resolution with Heartland (which never happened), and they did not even charge us to store it because they knew we had enough problems to deal with. I am so grateful to the owners of this campground. They were like angels to us in our time of need. Thank you Keene's Lake, you have no idea how much we appreciate your help. In my reviews I always mention how the cell coverage is since we work remotely. Verizon did not work well here at all because it is so close to Canada and our phone and hotspot kept roaming. Our T-Mobile phone and data worked better but it wasn't a very strong signal.

a trip to maine--obviously, but i need to point out the obvious--and why a trip to maine you ask--a…read morephone conversation with my girlfriend and we figured out that the two of us have never been to maine--other than me but it was a drive from new hampshire to portland to fly out. anyway, there was one light house in particular that she needed to see--and she had it in her phone. and of course it was the west quoddy head lighthouse. so we hopped in the car and drove to lubec all the way from albuquerque which is a long story in itself. i was tasked to find lodging all along the trip, and realized that there was not a lot in lubec. Found the West Quoddy Station, and sure why not give it a try. We were so glad we did. the first thing we noticed is that it was QUIET. peaceful quiet. and was everything as advertised. we had the starboard bouy barn, and it was nice and roomy. having a kitchen meant we could just get something in town and cook in the room. to be able to just have a nice meal and enjoy the scenery was fantastic. the room was nice and warm for may, and the shower was terrific. big bathroom which is a plus. definitely worth the drive!!

This place is located in one of the most beautiful areas in Maine. The grounds and the buildings are gorgeous, as are all of the surroundings. The exterior of the buildings is immaculately maintained and the landscaping is lovely. We stayed in the Cabin. I booked it because of location and the history of the building. The photos showed it was primitive but clean, and I'm fine with primitive, as long as it's clean. Check in process is very old fashioned...you arrive to find your name on a public bulletin board outside the office, and go to your unlocked cabin to find your keys and a printed welcome note with instructions. Obviously this is not an automated process, and a decent amount of effort goes into this process every day. It was actually quaint. The management had sent a very nice email with a long, detailed list of interesting things to do & amazing sights in the area, along with how to access them. This was very thoughtful & helpful! As stated earlier, the location is breathtaking. Several wildflowers were blooming, including lupines, and the sweeping views of the water were just gorgeous. We loved strolling the grounds and got some amazing photos. It truly felt like "real Maine", not some tourist version. When we arrived & got into the cabin, we noticed an odor that went beyond the usual musty old cabin smell. But it was still at the beginning of the season, so I assumed the old cabin had been shut up all winter and just needed to be aired out. It was fairly dark inside even with the curtains open. I was disappointed to see the leather chair that looked comfy in the photos was actually very old and the seat had what looked to be broken springs showing through, so we didn't sit on it. The kitchen appeared clean & very well appointed with everything you'd need to cook your own meals, including a full size fridge, toaster, microwave and a gas range, and every cooking and eating utensil, including a tea kettle. The bathroom appeared clean, with thick towels, a hair dryer, and soaps/shampoo/conditioner. We opened the windows to let the fresh air in, anxious to go exploring the lighthouse and surrounding area. When we returned, the cabin had still not aired out. Upon turning down the beds, we saw there was a lot of pet hair on the bedspread and on the pillowcases and sheets (we were not traveling with animals). Upon turning on the lamps we saw the shades were stained and there were cobwebs and piles of pet hair on the floors and in the corners, and it was at this point that we noticed one of the bath towels didn't look clean. I'd now lost faith, but there is very little in the way of other places to stay in the area & it was already getting late. My husband said "it's only one night" and we were getting up early the next morning anyway, so we quickly ran to the local Dollar General just before they closed and bought our own blankets and towels. We made the best of it, getting up at 4am (the sky was already getting light at this time) to see the sunrise at West Quoddy Lighthouse, which was an amazing experience! In the light of the morning we saw just how much pet hair was on the floors, and it was pretty gross, but by then we were leaving, heading out for our next adventure. This is my advice to anyone booking the Cabin at West Quoddy Station: check your expectations. We didn't experience any of the spaces other than the Cabin, so this review is only for that particular building. The Cabin IS quite primitive, it smells very musty, and the level of clean was not to our personal satisfaction. But if you're up for some history and adventure and as my husband says "you don't mind feeling like you're staying in some random guy's hunting cabin", you might find yourself having an adventure in an historic building at one of the most beautiful spots in the U.S.

Being in a border town, this is a good place for people to stop if they want to stay somewhere for the night on their way to or from Atlantic Canada, or even to explore Downeast Maine. The motel, which overlooks the St. Croix River and the international border with Canada, is a bit dated, but is certainly reasonable. I had a room with a river view overlooking the St. Croix River and St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Amenities are certainly adequate, as I had a TV, refrigerator and microwave. The room and the bedding was clean, even if the furniture is a bit older. This place is more like 3.5 stars than 3 stars though.

Anyway, we have a small dog and we were given a room that was an insult to sleep there. The room was dank and smelly. It reeked of urine and feces. The lighting was poor. I would only recommend this place to a convicted felon if the jails were full up. The bed spread was wet, possibly dog urine but not our dog. The seats were embedded with food grease stains. The carpet hadn't been replaced since the 1970s. We wanted to leave immediately but were too exhausted. It was a motel stay from Hell.

Today started at 6:00 am to catch a 7:45 am boat departure with plan to see whales, seals,…read moredolphins, Bald Eagles, the lighthouse area we walked yesterday-the walking area to get to it is submerged in water at high tide today; ride through it and experience The Old Sows Pen (huge whirlpools where ingoing and outgoing tides intersect. Amazing 2 hour trip aboard The Lorna Dione Small boat with 6 passengers and our Captain Ralph. Man did Captain Ralph deliver !!! We saw 3 species of whales up close, heard their blow and got great pictures. Riding through the cut at lighthouse (we walked yesterday) was amazing and the whirlpools were thrilling. Captain Ralph made sure we got the whirlpool experience, including turning off motors and us going around 180 degrees .

Across the road is a river basin with a family of bald eagles nesting in the trees clearly visible from the house. At night you could hear the baby eagles chittering back and forth with the parents. Opening the windows in the master bedroom gave you the soothing sounds of the tidal river as it flowed past the house. Paul has a friend who is a lobsterman, and he obtained and steamed for us three monstrous lobsters. So good! Very conveniently located on the main road, 5 minutes drive to Machias and 25 minutes to Lubec and the Canadian border. We will absolutely stay here again!

The view was amazing! Be sure to wake up to the sunrise and keep a watch out for whales. We'll stay again when in the area!

A canoe is provided and there are fresh blueberries for the picking right outside the door. It is so peaceful and quiet with beautiful grounds. You will hear the loons call. The evenings have beautiful sunsets. Georgie is wonderful and leaves homemade goodies for you, this time it was whoopie pies and pickled beets. I highly recommend this place.
