Blackwoods is the perfect campground when visiting Acadia. Each site has it's own level of privacy and benefits to it's location. This is only our second time camping at Blackwoods but it starts to feel like home after a few nights. Some of the perks include: running water spigots, dish washing stations, dumpsters throughout the driveways, sheltered bathrooms with flushing toilets and sinks to wash hands. I love hearing the ocean at night and getting up to stargaze on the ocean cliffs. You will never forget seeing the incredibly dark sky over the ocean once you experience it at Acadia.

We had a livley time at Blackwoods. Things of note for first time NP campers: Bathrooms do not have soap or towels Bring your own kindling If you are RV camping make sure that you know the site is assessable. If you are tenting with a bigger group or family get a group site in Loop B. Loop A seems quieter though Take advantage of easy hiking access!!!

Acadia is pretty incredible. Staying inside the park at the campground is the best way to experience it. The sites were clean and you felt like you were actually camping in the woods and not parked somewhere with trees. No hookups at this campground, so you need to rely on your tanks and battery's if your RV'ing. The campground had an awesome theater but sadly no movies or productions taking place when we were there (fourth of July week) Overall nice, but wish they had something for the little ones.

This campground is located in the heart of Acadia and is close to everything we wanted to see! Some things were a bit of a drive like Bar Harbor but it was beautiful driving through the entire area! There are many trailheads that start from Blackwoods which is super convenient. Cadillac mountain is one of them which I believe you need a permit to enter because of the large amount of people who want to do it. The campground did not have showers but it had very clean restrooms and a separate room for washing dishes. Our site was a small way away from the car which was inconvenient as we have a rooftop tent too but we made it work. I would 100% come back here! Great place to see the stars too.

We had a great time at this campground. Super clean and organized with nice restroom facilities and clearly marked places to dispose of trash and food scraps. It's beautiful here and the campground is located in a lovely part of the park. It's also near the trailhead for the South Ridge Cadillac Mountain hike, which was a tough hike with lots of elevation gains and rocks, but very rewarding and just an absolutely beautiful hike. Drive your car down to the road where you enter the campground and park alongside the road, the trailhead is about 100 feet as you exit the campground to the left. There is also a little path to a pretty lookout over the water - it seems like there might be a trial there, but either we didn't find it or there isn't one, but the path to the lookout is wonderful - we went to it at night with headlamps and it was really cool to go out there at night (it was overcast the day we were there so not sure if it's a good star viewing location or not). Campground gets a big thumbs up from us!

We didn't know for sure what day we would be in the area, so we did not book a campsite in advance of our vacation. As we got closer to Acadia National Park, we eventually figured out what day we'd be there, but we figured it was going to be crowded and we'd have no chance of getting a reservation. We lucked out! We literally got the very last campsite available, we must have logged on at just the right moment, three days in advance of arrival. So be sure to check the info on when reservations are available. It was a great site. Level, near the clean bathroom, in a lovely woodland and not too close to neighboring campsites, if you kind of like a bit of privacy. They're close, but you're not right on top of each other. We had great neighbors next to us, they came over and said hello when they saw our license plate and realized we were from the same home state. Very, very poor Verizon cell service, though. We didn't use the showers, so can't comment on that. It was quiet during the night.

The amazing view of the ocean at the end of the campground's ocean path...best part of this campground.

We stayed July 4th weekend and when we booked in January this was one of the last tent sites available. Granted it was July 4th, but still something to think about. There are a few lucky tent sites that overlook the water which would be incredible. Maybe next time we can book earlier and snag one. Each site has everything you will need -- a platform for your tent (perfect incase it rains), an electrical outlet, running water, a picnic table and a firepit. It is clean and well-kept, and you are never too far from a bathroom / shower facility. Just note that the shower is $1 for 5 minutes and you'll need quarters. There is a main house where you can buy wood and other supplies. During non-covid times they also have a gathering place where you can buy snacks. I believe the rate is around $50 dollars a night but I'm not sure if the rate changes depending on the weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was higher than normal over July 4th. This is a wonderful campsite and I'd happily return. In comparison, I've also camped at the Oceanside KOA in Bar Harbor and this campsite is way better. Be sure to check it out!

Our group campsite came with a few picnic tables and firepit grills. There was an apple tree in our site and a very cute porcupine eating the apples in the tree at night.

There are no showers but there is electricity and running water. Up the road a mile there are paid showers, which my husband reports are also "clean enough" and had hot water.

We booked our stay in March 2025, and reserved an ocean front back in site water electric. We arrive and they have is in a pull through across from the Ocean Front site we booked water and electric. My wife called the office to see if a mistake was make and Brenda at the office implied that my wife had no idea what she had reserved even though we had an email confirmation showing we had reserved an ocean front site. Brenda then completely dismissed my wife saying well we don't have any available anyway. There was no attempt to make this right whatsoever. We understand booking issues arise but for no communication prior to our arrival of the change was frustrating especially since we would have chosen a full hookup site had we been informed of the unavailability of an ocean front site. Our site was incredibly unleveled causing us to be unable to use the main entrance to our camper requiring our guests to walk through our bedroom to gain access to the bathroom and living room of our camper. We had emailed the campground about the experience as their handout requested to contact them before writing a bad review. Well it's over two weeks later and no one has responded to my wife's email. I found the combination of rocky coastline, dense evergreen forests, and mountain summits accessible within a relatively compact area meant there was always something worth stopping for. The scenery shifted constantly as I moved through the park, and keeping a camera within reach at all times was not an exaggeration. Cadillac Mountain is the natural anchor of my visit. The drive to the summit is worth doing on its own, but I chose to hike the Gorge Trail leading up to it on foot. It was a serious undertaking that included real rock climbing sections and rewarded me with views that felt genuinely earned. I budgeted a full half day for the hike rather than driving. The summit itself has a gift shop, and the views from the top looked out in every direction with nothing obstructing them. A reservation for the Cadillac summit road costs a few dollars and needs to be booked online in advance, so I handled that before I arrived. The Beehive Trail is another strong option for hikers who want something with more exposure and elevation gain than a standard walk. I also built Sand Beach and Thunder Hole into my loop drive, and the carriage roads offered a different pace entirely, peaceful and scenic with no vehicle traffic to contend with, making them ideal for biking if I had access to wheels. Parking was a genuine challenge during peak season and on weekends in particular. Arriving early in the morning was the only reliable way to secure a spot at the popular stops without waiting an hour or more. A late fall visit would hit a sweet spot where crowds thin out considerably, the air is crisp, and the park takes on a quieter quality that peak season cannot offer. I made sure to buy my park pass at the visitor center and did my research on seasonal hours before I went, as services and shuttles wind down toward the end of October.
