I am so thankful to have found such a knowledgeable and caring exotic vet for my hamster, Tiger. Dr. Chan brought so much kindness to every step of Tiger's care, from treating an injured leg and a skin condition to ultimately identifying a mass in her abdomen that was causing her to decline quickly. Dr. Chan guided us through the available treatment options with sensitivity and compassion. Given Tiger's age and quality of life, we made the difficult decision to euthanize her to end her suffering, and we felt fully supported throughout the entire process. We even received a condolence card afterward signed by the hospital staff. It was thoughtful gesture that truly meant a lot to us. It's hard to find vets who can treat hamsters so I'm grateful to have found Dr. Chan. read more

I regret having Sunset Veterinary Hospital cared for my pets especially my pet cat, Argyle. They are money focused. They have charged you for asking questions. My previous veterinary doctor was Dr. Deepti Pal, a knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. Dr. Pal is transparent with her prices. The only one reason I did not have Dr. Pal take care of Argyle was her schedule and location. I regret it having Sunset Veterinary Hospital take care of Argyle. By far, the front desk, Jackie, is the worst front desk person anyone has to deal with. A business is not about dictatorship unless you have pee'd on them and claim the doctors and owners as your property. Dr. Pal has her own business in San Francisco, CA and it will be worth having Dr. Pal care for my pets. read more

I visited Sunset Veterinary Hospital on September 2nd because my cat had been throwing up for a week. I came with a specific request to run a blood test. Dr. Chu examined my cat and immediately gave me an estimate of nearly \$1,500 for various lab tests and services, many of which had nothing to do with my cat's issue. It felt like I was being pressured into unnecessary services, and the focus was more on money than on care or compassion. I chose to proceed only with the blood work for liver and kidney function, along with the exam, and the total was still close to \$400. The technician promised to call me with the results the same day. As of September 9th--an entire week later--I still have not received a call. I've called the clinic five times, and each time the front desk gives me excuses but no answers. Lastly, they don't bring your pet back to you until you pay the bill. That's very poor judgment, especially since I've used this vet before for smaller issues and always paid my bill. This kind of treatment shows a lack of trust and compassion. This has been a very disappointing and frustrating experience. I do not recommend this veterinary hospital due to poor communication, lack of compassion, and questionable practices. read more

This doctor, Dr. Chu, seems to tack on many additional tests and quite literally tries to milk you. We expressed to her our extremely tight budget and how we just want to help our cat get treated for her UTI. All of a sudden we had well over $1,300 of spent and expected expenses! It is sad feeling taken advantage of, when you are in a vulnerable moment. We will be stepping away and taking her to a different clinic moving forward. My advice is to save the time and money and go somewhere that genuinely cares. read more

Just a walks away from our house, we are regular people there. They x rayed her when she was coughing. I suspected she had found a bone on a walk. They said they found nothing. She coughed out a bone fragment the size of a dime and the hacking slowly went down as days went by. I saved the piece and took a pic of it but was too frustrated that they didn't find it on the x ray that I didn't bother calling for full results. It was triangle sized, very rigid. I'm glad she coughed it up with no issues because it could've done some harm. Soft muzzle will be enforced more now with walks. I wish they could just scope but they said no they have to do x ray first. But They did really well with the cats for the checkup and were very gentle with our dog during the checkup. I still felt anxious because she's anxious haha it rubs off but it calmed it down quite a bit when she was warming up quite quickly! She went with them without whining or bolting back to me. read more

Writing a bad review about a business that purports to take care of animals is not something I wanted to do today (or ever). My dog brings so much joy to my life, and he needs help that I can't provide. I need to rely on and trust my veterinarian but I just can't do that with Sunset Vet anymore. They took advantage of me, and I suggest you not let it happen to you as well. They will catastrophize and coax you into spending large sums of money for unnecessary testing: then, when results are wrong and their diagnoses turn out to be way off base, they won't even admit their mistake. Today I asked for my money back after being sent on a wild goose chase to save my dog's life, all on the false premise that he had a severe autoimmune disorder that could cause internal bleeding. Their diagnosis could not have been more wrong - it was based on bloodwork they did in-house that turned out to be wildly inaccurate. When they conveyed to me this morning that my dog was in a life threatening emergency they didn't say or even imply that their bloodwork may not necessarily have been right, but they did suggest I come back and pay another $500 for more bloodwork. The suggestion that we do more of the same testing for the same thing just a day later was weird to me, and should have made me think harder about their original advice. Instead I go to a veterinary ER where I learned (after paying another $300 to have the bloodwork redone) that my dog is completely fine and the numbers from Sunset Vet appear to be wrong. After spending $800 on this wild ride, thinking all day that I had to do whatever it took to save my dog's life, they offered me 80 bucks as a courtesy, but for some reason alleged they made no mistake. I want to say their original advice to treat my dog as if his life was in danger was just them erring on the side of caution but I can't: their disregard for accuracy caused havoc (albeit havoc that would have made them $500 more had I come back as they suggested). If the situation was different and my dog was in real danger, how am I to know they wouldn't treat it with the same carelessness. Even assuming they acknowledge something is wrong, I have reason to believe they would confidently lead me astray with a false diagnosis. And I know for certain that they wouldn't hold themselves accountable afterwards. But in a way none of this matters from my POV anymore. While I was writing this, I got an email from Sunset Vet informing me they could no longer provide care for my dog. Although petty in a you-can't-fire-me-I-already-quit sort of way, this termination letter says something really fundamental about their business. They'd rather refuse care to my dog than admit they screwed up. I guess that's one way to do business as a veterinarian but I leave it to you to decide if their heart's in the right place. read more

Frankly I'm not clear how this business getting occasional good reviews. Unless it is rigged. Usually you expect from vets that they care about animals and getting paid for their services. I didn't get any impressions that this business is care about animals. I'd suggest if you love your pet take your business some place else. Here are few examples: 1. My dog generally didn't want to go to this vet and resist every time. I should be getting a clue. Unfortunately I didn't. hey always take your pet away without much explanation and he is coming shaking after every treatment regardless how little it will be. That is not a good sign. 2. During grooming the technician mentioned a readiness in my dog ears. So as a loving parent I took him to the vet. The vet charged me ~ $400 for number of tests and cleaning procedures, but then the nurse mentioned it was nothing to worry and may not be worth it after I already payed. Not to mention stress that was added to a my lovely puppy. 3. I order medicine online to save a few bucks that require vet authorization. First it was rejected a few times as medicine was not correct. No communications from a vet. I needed to wait and figure out by myself. I got confirmation from a vet that right medicine will be approved. So, I ordered a right one and is still not approval after 3 days. Now I'm calling back and forth and nobody be able to give me proper explanation what is going on. So, 2 weeks after original order still no medicine in sight and no communication from a vet. 4. Common curtesy is not part of this establishment. They will charge you for everything without much details if those treatments are actually needed or not. Not to mention I come with appointments number of times and got inside 30 - 45 minutes later post appointment time. I know things can be delayed, but again phones and emails were invented long time ago and they could call me ahead of time instead of me wasting half of my working day. They LOST my dog. We drove around Sunset for an hour until we found him. I've been coming here since my dog was a puppy to get his very first shots. For 3 years I've came to this place but never left happy. Ever since covid, they didn't allow customers to go in with them when their pet is getting a check up, shots, or anything. Understandable back then but now that the mask mandate has been lifted, they are still not allowing anyone inside the lobby. This is irritating as no one is able to see what they're doing to their pets. Today I dropped off my dog to a tech to get his annual shots. The girl that took him from me did not once smile and was very stand-offish from the start. She told me that it would take roughly 10 minutes for my dog to be finished. So I went to go drop off something a few blocks away to my auntie. In less than 3 minutes, the tech calls me and tells me the total price and that he'll be ready outside. I specifically told her that I would need 4 or more minutes to be outside the vet. A few minutes later, I parked my car, and as I was walking across the street to the vet, a girl who was also waiting for her pet to be finished, told me that my dog got loose from the technician and he ran down the block. My heart sank and everything became dark. My immediate reaction was to run after him but the tech who ran after my dog was no where in sight. I drove around every single block close by, asked every single person I saw if they saw a dog running. Almost an hour later, a man that was helping us find my dog the entire time, let us know he found my dog. We found my dog on 38th and Ortega. ONE block away from Sunset Blvd, where he may have potentially been roadkill. This has been such a traumatizing experience. I am never coming back to this place and I hope anyone who does, think twice before coming. read more

Our feathered buddy has been recovering well since then. My parrot also sees Dr. Chan for his routine checkups, and I've received some great guidance and education there as well. Overpriced quacks! Worst PET hospital EVER! I do not recommend this location to anyone who cares about their animal. I had three animals at this location for the last few years. You WILL get charged the maximum amount for Minimum services!! Unfortunately, nobody at Sunset Vet cares about your animals well being! I have really tried with Dr Chu but I cannot support this vet any longer. We had Dr Chan initially and she was great, but somehow switch to Dr Chu and have not had good experience. I am frustrated that some vets seem to nickel and dime you for everything when it comes to your pet. I needed anti-inflammatories for my geriatric arthritic cat and she wanted me to come in to get blood work prior to the prescription. Sometimes we have to take risks in both adult and vet medicine but the trauma of taking a very old cat to the vet for unnecessary bloodwork prior to a short course of anti-inflammatories, really? Let's just do the right thing. The last "spiel" she gave me about sedating my dog for x-ray's and then withholding anti-inflammatories was just too much. I need a vet that has common sense and doesn't just practice cookbook medicine. Dr Chu is not that vet! read more

Jackie at the front desk is truly the main problem. I was 15m late to an appt to get sutures removed - parking was impossible. I knocked and they greeted me sternly and said, don't knock, you must call. Ok. I called. I was told that because I was late they would try to fit me in as best they could. So we waited in front of the office a bit, and then I walked the dogs on the opposite side of the street while my daughter was in visual range. I was awaiting a call, as I've done before without issue. Then as I crossed and turned back down the street, my daughter came to me hurriedly and said she had been accosted by a woman who had been yelling and was scary. So we kept our distance from the woman. Not only did they never call me as I waited more than an hour. Jackie decided it was best to chide me for missing the appointment and warn me that this was my second "no-show" and they would drop me if there were a third. I tried to explain but she said it was unreasonable for me to expect a call. Her emails were robotic and without an ounce of empathy. So I dropped them. If this were my business and my principal front desk person behaved like this, she would be out of a job the next day. read more

I have been coming to Sunset Veterinary Clinic for years. I had brought my cat here for many years in mid 2010s before she passed away and in general I found them to be a solid neighborhood vet. We recently got a rescue dog and decided to take him here even though we no longer live in the neighborhood. We went out of our way coming here from Potrero Hill. I learned the hard way that this place is no longer what it used to be. I am not sure if there's been an ownership change, but vets and the receptionist are all new now and lack compassion, empathy and are unprofessional. Here's my story The doggy had an appointment for follow up shots and after slugging through the high afternoon traffic cross town with a dog and toddler in tow, we arrived to the front door just about 10 minutes late for a 30 minute appointment. The front staff were unsympathetic to our tardiness and dismissed immediately our friendly pleas to see if there's a way to have the vaccinations done (plenty of time to finish them in 20 minutes that remained was my point). While I was talking to the receptionist manager trying to negotiate a way to get the immunizations for the doggy, I get a an email informing us about our no show to the appointment. I felt slapped in the face!!! Yes we were late but we were not no show. I work in medical field. You never turn away a patient from a doctor's/vet appointment. This is healthcare we're taking about not a haircut appointment. There could be serious issues going on with the patients! At the very least they could have been reasonable, and said something like: "okay I know you're late, but there are still 20 minutes left for your appointment, lets see how much we can accomplish in that time. Any issues left over would need a new appointment." That is what I do at least. Well, needless to say, they had zero sympathy even after seeing a toddler and a rescue dog waiting patiently outside their clinic door. I have lost confidence in this clinic and I am not sure if it is run by humans and animal lovers. I will be taking the doggy to a different vet and you should think twice before bringing your pet here about what kind of values you are supporting. read more

Amazing desk receptionists and doctors! At 6am this morning, I was researching bird hospitals in the city for our very ill parakeet. I discovered Sunset Vet has an avian vet, and my bird and I waited in the car until they opened at 8am. The receptionist could not have been kinder, and the doctor was willing to see me first thing. Unfortunately, my bird passed away (quickly and in peace). The folks at this vet hospital were SO sensitive and caring. They offered to help us in any way. Shoutout to Dr Chan and team for being efficient, mindful and caring for my cat. It's the first time I brought Lincoln to the vet since getting him a few months ago. We were both super stressed as it was my first time owning a cat. I figured to bring him in for a wellness check to see how he's doing and update some of his shots that have since been due. The process is straightforward. You fill up an online form for both yourself and the patient. After which, you schedule an appointment with the doctor. I managed to get an appointment in a week after filling in the forms. (Not sure what it will be like for emergency appointments tho). I arrived on time but had to wait outside. They called over the phone to make sure they have all thge necessary information and what kind of procedures I wanted. After the appointment, Dr Chan came out to talk to me and gave advice on how I should take care of Lincoln going forward. She was patient and answered all my questions thoroughly. This is a long overdue review. I've been coming here for quite some time. The staff is always friendly and helps to the best of their abilities. Dr. Alice Chan has been informative from the beginning. I've gotten to know her very well as there was a period where I did bring my dog in quite a bit. She's very responsive in terms of emails and getting back to me in a timely manner. She's made the process of getting to know my dog and her diagnoses a lot better throughout the past year. She definitely cares about the pets' well beings. The front desk staff, Brittney and Jenson are amazing too! They know me by a first name/ voice base. haha, but they are great- along with the rest of the staff. Understanding and accommodating. Highly recommend. If I could give this place all the negative stars in the world I would. Save your time and go some where else. This was one of the most ridiculous Vet's I've ever been to. We got no care for our dog and was prescribed a coughing pill and some anti nausea pill that we never even asked for or was even recommended. We went for a wellness check and BTW what the hell is a coughing pill?!? Also when asked what the coughing pill was they did not have an answer for it. RED FLAG! Thanks for screwing up our PET INSURANCE. Because they prescribed some nonsense placebo of a pill Pet Insurance isn't covered for all of the real EMERGENCY Hospital visits that we now have to pay out of pocket. Thank you for making us owe THOUSANDS of dollars to the emergency pet hospitals for the care we really needed help to pay on. Should of listened to other reviewers. DO NOT GO HERE. I take my puppy Bubba here and he LOVES them. Every time we go it's for a shot and he still walks in like they are his BFFs. I've seen both Dr. Chan and Dr. Chu and they are both wonderful. They really take the time to talk to you about any concerns or questions. Staff are also very friendly. Very disappointed with the care we got for our dog's chronic infections. We brought our Poodle in who's ears had been bothering her for some time and our washes at home weren't helping sufficiently. The refused to do any deep cleanings and told us it was probably an allergy - and we should change her food. We did and as nothing was improving we tried to schedule follow up care but couldn't get her in for a couple months. At the SFSPCA, where we had to go to get care instead, the Vet explained that only 20% of dog ear infections are allergy related. When being treated there they made sure to schedule follow up appointments to ensure that the ear problem resolves. I feel like the quality of care was poor and our dogs health and well-being wasn't being considered when sent away for dietary treatment without follow up appointment read more

I just want to start by saying thank you to everyone here. We brought our hamster Teddy here a few times when he had some health issues as they have an exotic vet and they were very helpful and kind. We lost our sweet boy recently and they were so patient and again extremely helpful. I'm horrible with names (I apologize) but one of the staff members even stayed late so we could drop Teddy off after he passed and I am truly grateful. We received a thoughtful card in the mail with messages from the staff. Having a sick pet, even losing one is so hard but knowing the staff genuinely cares really makes a difference. 0/5 they don't care for you or your pet's wellbeing. they're not friendly, empathetic, or welcoming. they'll terminate you without giving an explanation & claim it's "mutual". the front desk worker, kenzi, isn't friendly. it feels like we're a nuisance every time we schedule an appointment. the manager, jackie, is even worse. she's rude & the one the wrote the termination letter. they all need training on customer service & jackie needs to be trained how to be a manager. they're not fit for their jobs. also, when you're in the waiting room, they're always gossiping & talking to each other. you have to wait until they're done before you can check-in. i put this past them & still stayed b/c of dr chan. we had good rapport or what i thought was good rapport. i wanted a follow up on the termination letter. i wrote an email & called to speak to jackie, the manager, so she can give me an explanation. i was told she'd call me back, but i didn't receive any call backs or responses. she hid from the situation like a coward. if you terminated me, stand by it & give me an explanation instead of running away from it. it's probably b/c she knows she's in the wrong & doesn't want to apologize. dr chan said she'll call me, but she didn't. she writes me an email saying she stands by the termination b/c i "verbally abused" them. this is in fact not true! dr chan never once called me to hear my side of the situation before siding with her staff. here's what happened on friday 10/18: i called at 8:11am to see if I can make a last minute appointment since my dog has been having diarrhea for 2 days & blood in the diarrhea for 1 day. blood in diarrhea is something serious. if you google it, it says to go to a vet right away which is why i called. kenzi said there were no appointments available, but she had to to check with dr chu & said she'll call me back right away. when someone says they'll call you back right away, you'd expect a call within 15 minutes max. she also mentioned they have emergency appointments available for $250 & will check with dr chu to see if we're considered an emergency appointment. i didn't receive a call back right away as mentioned, so i called back 40 minutes later at 8:51am to follow up. i've been sitting around waiting for a call & trying to figure out what to do. when i called back, jackie, the manager, picked up & she was already had attitude when i was following up. i originally gave her the benefit of the doubt & thought maybe she was having a bad day. she was telling me things that were the exact opposite of what kenzi originally told me. she said a note was submitted to dr chu, but she doesn't have time to read it b/c she has surgeries scheduled. then i asked when do you think i'll get a call back. she said 2pm is when she'll be free. again, blood in diarrhea is an urgent matter. is waiting until 2pm urgent? i then asked if there are even any emergency appointments available & she replied no, we don't have any. at this point, i got upset b/c i felt like i should've been notified with this information at 8:11am by kenzi instead of sitting around for 40 minutes. if i had known that dr chu answer the note until 2pm or if there wasn't any emergency appointments, i would've already left the house to go to an urgent care. i asked why wasn't i told this earlier & she proceeds to tell me it's b/c of the surgeries. even if it's b/c of surgeries, i should've been told this from the start & i didn't feel like the situation was treated urgently & with care or compassion. i then questioned jackie on why i wasn't given an explanation of how 2 people working at the same place can give 2 totally different information. she had no answer & didn't apologize for the miscommunication. i still don't even know what information is correct as both conversations were the exact opposite. jackie apologizes only b/c i asked for an apology. it was not a sincere apology. she then sarcastically asks if i need more need information on emergency hospitals. the emergency hospitals are on their website. my dog is 10 & not a puppy. i wouldn't be a responsible dog mom if i didn't know where the closest emergency hospitals are. i replied no thanks & hung up. where's the verbal abuse?! jackie answered the phone with attitude & i met her with the same energy. since she started it, wouldn't that mean she verbally abused me first? why dish it if you can't take it? with what i thought was good rapport with dr chan, you'd think she'd want to hear both sides of the situation, but she didn't & sided with her staff. the urgent care we went to asked for my dog's records to see if there was anything in his past history that caused the diarrhea. they sent the records to a different hospital! isn't this malpractice? i would expect people working with medical records to do a thorough job & send it to the correct hospital. unfortunately, they can't even do that. if you want your pet taken care of, this is not the place. read more

I brought my terminally-sick cockatiel to Dr. Chan, and she provided incredible guidance on how best to navigate his last days. She was clear and compassionate in her communication/explanation of available tests and procedures, and I never felt rushed or confused. She gently guided me to what was clearly the best choice for my tiel, which was humane euthanasia. When the sad day came, I was given plenty of space and time to say goodbye, and was even allowed to bring in his flock mates into the room so he wasn't alone. Throughout the process, Dr. Chan also followed up with me to check in and see what I wanted to do. It was a bittersweet two week journey: goodbyes to our beloved pets are painful, but I felt fully prepared for the situation and got to make the most of it. I'm thankful to have selected care from SVH and to have Dr. Chan walk us through my little Ross' last days. read more

Pretty long story; bear with me. I was coming home one day from Jackson rancheria, pulled an all nighter with the boyfriend. As we were back home in the sunset, we left our pup in the car while we picked up breakfast. When we came back to the car, we found our Trident Vitality gum packet completely torn apart:( Poor Truffle wuffles got to them before we did. I panicked and being the diligent researcher I am, I searched all over the internet on the iphone for symptoms and red flags. Apparently xylitol(sweetener for most gums) is deadly for dogs. I started crying on the spot. Seeing how broken down I was about this situation, the boyfriend and I rushed to yelp a vet nearby. Sunset veterinary hospital came up as the number 1 search. I called in at around 930 am, and they said I can bring my baby in right away. When I got there, I was all out of sorts. I filled out paper work and sadly handed the pup to the vet tech. Everyone was very nice and calm about the situtation. They reassured me everything was going to be okay, and told me we brought him in right on time. The vet was Dr. Bannow, and since he was performing surgery on someone elses' baby at the time, the staff informed me on the procedure on truffles instead. I was to return at 5, after a phone call from Dr Bannow. I ended up calling him, and he explained that they had to induce vomit and had to be kept under an IV until 5. Everything turned out wonderfully. I was sooo happy to pick up my baby!! He had to wear his YUCKY cone aka e collar, since he had to keep the needle in his pawsies for the follow up the next day. So truffles ended up yacking out the greeen trident vitality. I was so thankful... Sure.. the prices were a little steep. about 650.. but how can you put a price on your best friend/your baby?? I have always appreciated the care that my dog and cat receive from the vets and techs at Sunset Veterinary. They take true pride in caring for and providing the best options for their well-being. So, this rating is not for them. They are top-notch This rating is for their front office staff since the pandemic. Their voice mail does not indicate who they are and since they DO NOT RETURN calls, I don't even know if they get the message. Their phones went down for several days and they provided a different number to contact, if you contacted them via email. No notification was given on the website. I have tried to arrange for a subscription for a prescription from an online source to keep costs down, and the source repeatedly contacted them, trying to get it approved. Whilst I love this clinic and they care to my pets, the front desk is unprofessional and I am seriously considering moving care. read more

My dog Spot and I have been coming to Dr Chan at Sunset Veterinary Hospital for the last year and a half. He's always received excellent care, and it is clear that the staff and veterinarians genuinely like the animals they work with. Spot is a bit of a reactive soul, and they are always cautious with him around other dogs. They've made time at a last minute when it was necessary, and follow up promptly after any lab work. I highly recommend them as a great veterinarian's office in San Francisco. read more

We take both our dogs to see Dr Chan. She's amazing! She is so kind and caring. They are currently doing drop offs like most pet hospitals and they call shortly after to discuss your pets needs. Dr Chan is very informative and she only wants what's best for your pet. Location is a bit out the way for me but its worth it because I know my pets are in the best care at Sunset Vet. read more

I highly recommend this veterinary hospital. Prior to recently moving to San Francisco I lived in Atherton and took my dog to Whipple Avenue Pet Hospital in Redwood City. It was a short drive from where I lived and they seemed to okay. About a month ago I took my dog in for a teeth cleaning, and while my dog was under anesthesia they phoned my wife and said our dog needed to have 12 teeth extracted and explained why. I told my wife to tell them we do not authorize any extractions and to only clean the teeth and to remove the 4 small dermal masses (very small growths on her shin). They removed the dermal masses and performed an analysis on them to see if any were cancerous and they were not. I had Whipple Pet Hospital send my dogs medical file and X-Rays to the Sunset Veterinary Hospital, filled out an online form about my dogs health history, etc. and the hospital then scheduled me for an appointment. I met with Dr. Lau and she reviewed the dental X-Rays and said she could see that 4 teeth needed to be extracted, but couldn't tell if any others needed to be extracted until the dog was under anesthesia and a thorough examination could be done. A couple of weeks later I delivered the dog for the 4 teeth to be extracted and to have a new small dermal mass removed. Dr. Lau called me after everything was completed and told me that ONLY 4 teeth needed to be extracted and on the Dental Discharge Letter stated, in writing, "remainder of teeth had no significant periodontal disease requiring extractions." And Dr. Lau said that this type of dermal mass is never cancerous and it would be a waste of my money to pay for an analysis. About an hour later, Dr. Lau phoned me to tell me my dog was not happy being in her cage and that if I was able to come and pick her up early, and be able to watch her, she felt it would be less stressful on the dog. I went I got my dog early. I found an honest vet who could have agreed with Whipple Avenue Pet Hospital and charged a ton of more money by extracting 8 additional teeth and performing an analysis on the dermal mass. Whipple Avenue Pet Hospital in Redwood City, based on my experience, should never be trusted. They have a corrupt culture. I plan to continue going to Sunset Veterinary Hospital and seeing Dr. Lau. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Chan and her amazing team at Sunset Veterinary Hospital! I desperately called a few weeks ago to see if they could see my rabbit, who had been dealing with a lot of health issues in the past months and had stopped eating entirely. Despite us being a new client to the hospital, Jackie was super kind and empathetic on the phone, and worked with Dr. Chan to squeeze my girl in for an appointment the very next morning! Dr. Chan spent nearly half an hour on the phone with me answering every last question I had. She also kindly and quickly answered all the million follow up questions I emailed her. The technicians were all so kind as well - so grateful to everyone for taking care of my girl (she can be a real handful!). The team made a very stressful time a little less stressful for both my bun and I. If only I had known years before that Sunset Veterinary Hospital sees exotics! I definitely feel so much more at ease knowing they are close by with a top notch team. read more

I have been bringing my dog to Dr. Chan since she was puppy. Dr. Chan, Dr. Chu, and the staff at SVH are so friendly and my dog loves going there. They provide amazing service and I feel great about the care Luna has received. They are very attentive and responsive about questions I have about Luna. I also appreciate the post-op calls after the few procedures Luna has received. I recently moved back to Southern California but love this place so much that I've seriously considered to keep SVH as Luna's main vet clinic. I highly recommend SVH to anyone in search of a good vet. read more

I recently switched vets because SFSPCA felt like they've gotten too big, too busy, and too impersonal. Anyway, I've only had Dr. Chan seeing my pets so far. One of my dogs was having pretty bad cough. Dr. Chan saw her once, did some x-ray, and gave her some meds, and BAM, she's all good now. Dr. Chan is very thorough with her exam and gave detailed explanations. I told her that she better not move elsewhere because I don't want to look for another vet! read more

I brought my two kittens in for their FVRCP shot. We spoke to the vet on the phone and she asked if we wanted them to have a rabies shot. My partner said no (something like "not at this time, thanks"). Unfortunately the doctor somehow misunderstood the "no" and gave them the rabies shots anyway. I understand mistakes happen and she may have been distracted. It's not that big a deal to have given them the shot. But what frustrates me is that when I called to ask for a refund for their error, they wouldn't give it to me! So we definitely won't be back here again. It's a bummer because my partner had been going to this vet for many years and it's in our neighborhood. It's also frustrating because in my first email to them, I told them I was coming in for just the FVRCP, so there's written documentation of my original request. It's honestly tempting me to want to record any phone conversations with vets in case this happens to me again. Hopefully I'll find a better vet, though. read more
