Very happy to have found this Gem I booked a guided ride last week for my daughter and although we were never nervous since it was her first time riding, we felt so comfortable here! Our guide was so helpful, kind and takes amazing pics by the way. No phones are allowed in the ride and you cannot pet horses while they're tied up but they let you love on the horses that are in the ranch pens. We will be booking again next week. Love this place because you can feel the love they have for their animals.

Had the best ride with Hanna. She was so informative. Love how all of the horses are rescue and hearing their back stories. Super romantic with strawberries and chocolate . I LOVED my experience with my ride. I took my nieces from out of town and they said they had the BEST time! The ride guide was so pleasant and kind to us. The horses had personality! lol we all laughed at how different each horse was. I definitely plan on going again with my own children. They both told me that when they come to visit California they wanna do a horse ride. (They are from Washington state)

My friends and I always the best time at Sunshine & Daydreams in Norco. This past weekend, we went on a 2 hour ride with Oscar as our guide. There were were 5 of us this time and we had a blast. My first time going horseback riding and I would love to return. The track was not boring whatsoever and we went thru different turns, up hills, and down hills. My horse Bubbles was a delight so well behaved along with the rest of the horses. I was so nervous but with the help of our guide checking in on us every so often I felt confident maneuvering Bubbles. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and after the trip I was surprised with 3 roses, 2 mini bottles of Apple Cider, and some chocolate along with some strawberries. This was a cool adventure. My uncle took me and my cousin here for horseback riding. I opted for a wagon ride last minute. They were accommodating towards us. Our ride lasted about 45 minutes. When you book your ride it has to be reserved online or by phone before you show up. There is a deposit required for your time slot and number of horses needed. You can't be late or they take your deposit. You can't reschedule or they take your deposit too. There are no refunds. I understand they are running a business. Rule of thumb if you can't get there don't schedule it until you know for sure, or you will lose money. My guide was very nice she was the owner. She was very passionate about horses and her livestock. I really enjoyed her stories and insight on the area. She offered me try fresh goat milk and an umbrella for the ride. Definitely recommend trying out her lessons or riding tours as a group. It was exciting. It looks like they had a petting zoo too. There is a small parking area in the back on site too.

What a GREAT Sunday afternoon to ride. My girlfriend and had an amazing time. Madison was our guide and she was awesome. It was my girlfriend's first time riding a horse and she had no difficulty with her horse, Captain Kirk. We will DEFINITELY be back to ride again real soon.

What an incredible experience! Let me start with the booking, as easy as it gets. All the instructions were there at your fingertips and they follow up with multiple emails for instructions and reminders and an electronic waiver, which was super convenient. Onto the actual adventure, our guide was Ebony, and she was incredible, literally incredible. She was super informative right from the very beginning and super knowledgeable as well about the trail and just everything that we were seeing. It was fun to learn a little bit about her and a lot about just the nature preserve and all the little fun facts that we probably wouldn't have known otherwise. I hope that we can come back sometime soon. We were there to celebrate my dad's birthday and he had an amazing time as well. Thank you for helping make this experience super special and memorable and thank you for the top-tier Customer Service! And let me not forget to mention that everyone who works there that we encountered was super friendly. 10. Stars! read more

This past weekend's horseback riding trip was such a smooth and peaceful experience from start to finish. The staff was pleasant, welcoming, and made everything easy. Lauren, our trail leader, was amazing--very knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly experienced with both the riders and the horses. My horse was INDIGO. But all the horses were calm and not temperamental at all, which made the ride even more enjoyable and relaxing. I chose the early morning ride, and it was absolutely perfect. I had removed my flannel beforehand and wore only a sleeveless tee, which worked out great as the sun started to come up. Parking was very convenient, and I especially loved that this location is only about 20 minutes from my home in Canyon Springs. The trails through the Santa Ana Riverbed were lovely--peaceful, scenic, and exactly what I was hoping for. I will definitely be doing this again. It was such a better experience and value than driving all the way into the Los Angeles area for a ride. This gave me exactly what I wanted: a serene, beautiful morning on horseback in nature. I have gone on several trail rides this year with S&D and have had a wonderful experience each time. I've taken my granddaughter for her 7th birthday, my brother who had never ridden before and joined some early morning rides as a solo. The guides clearly know and care for the horses as individuals and give a sense of their personalities (horseanalities?!) This month, August 2 & 10, Irene was our guide. She is a lifelong horsewoman with quality teaching skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor. Riding in the Hidden Valley open space trails provides an immersive sense of being far from city-life; a lovely vacation in an 1 or 2 hour package. Try it and see for yourself! Upon arrival they were very unorganized. They asked if I had booked already and I told them yes. After about 10 minutes they said they only had one reservation. However, I showed them the Zelle transfer and I paid for 2 riders. They were very kind as they were trying to figure out the mix up. Our ride guide Madison was amazing though. So knowledgeable in horses, you could tell she loves horses and what she does. She took awesome photos of us on the trail. Madison honestly made me forget about the little hiccup at the beginning. Would definitely go back. read more

Would have loved to give them five stars because the ride was enjoyable but their communication post ride really sucks. They don't allow you to bring cameras on the ride, which is understandable, they don't want you falling off or spooking the horses but they also promise to take PLENTY of pictures during the ride. They took ONE. They also say they're going to text you the picture afterwards yet here I am, more than a month after my ride with no picture, despite several calls and voicemails asking for them to send it to me. read more

Little disappointed in my visit. Staff was extremely nice ... we weren't allowed to take our phone for photos which is OK but instructor only took a couple and as the horses were walking. I was trying to get next to my son and neither our horses were cooperative so we did not get one good photo I think 3-4 total.. I paid extra for 2 strong draft horses and I felt my horse was tired and irritated the entire time.. I just feel like I paid too much money for not a great experience. I was having a bad day and wanted to do something I've been wanting to do for a while and it was not fun. Sorry. read more

First of all, just because we got there 10 mins late they didn't give us the entire tour, instead of an hour they did 35 mins. Second, it's the first time in a horse back riding tour that they don't allow phones. The tour guide is supposed to take pictures for you with their personal phone and send it at the end of the tour and she sent it until the next day because we texted her and called couple of times. Lastly, the pictures and videos are pathetic, bad quality! Overall, we had a bad experience and didn't enjoyed the ride. Do not recommend this place!!!!!! 3/3/25 we were the last tour. read more

There was good and bad about my experience here. I'll start with the good. The male guide was very personable, friendly, easy to talk to and he interacted with the whole group. He was kind enough to inform us in advance he'd be taking pictures for us and texting them to us later. He'd check in on everyone to make sure we were doing ok. The horses were well behaved and very calm. A child would have no problem riding on them. The hour trail ride was a nice experience and let you see different scenery. This part of the tour I'd rate a 5 out of 5. The staff and other issues I'd rate a 3 out of 5. There was an incident where I received an email the day before (less than 24 hour notice) telling me my starting time had been rebooked without me being asked if it was ok or not. Inside that email was also them reminding me of their cancellation/reschedule/refund policy. "We will only offer to refund your ride if you make the request a minimum of 48 hours prior to your scheduled ride. We will only offer to reschedule your ride if you make the request a minimum of 24 hours prior to your scheduled ride. We will NOT refund or reschedule any rides cancelled for any reason within 24 hours of the schedule ride time, including rides booked same day." As soon as I saw this email I called them but it was just after 5pm and no answer. I did end up getting a call back from them about 2 hours later. I ended up discussing this time change and email with the lady; explained my point of view on how I felt about this initial experience with their business and I hadn't even gone to their place of business yet. She did apologize and offer to put my starting time back, but made it sound like it'd inconvenience the stable master. Stating that most people wouldn't have minded the change because they're going there to relax and have fun. If I was in a different position, I guess I'd normally agree with that assessment. But I would have asked the customer first instead of just changing times without their permission or approval. Unfortunately I'm not in that type of position to go with the flow. That was the reason I specifically chose that time to begin with. With health issues demanding medications be taken at specific times throughout the day and also scheduled to work that afternoon, I had to account for delays or traffic on the way home. There were quite a few employees there working with the horses. They didn't interact with the customers, which is fine, but there was one specific lady that came off unpleasant, very serious (like she never smiled), and curt. Apparently I got too close to the horses that were tied up to the posts and she looks at me and tells me to go stand over on the sidewalk. It wasn't the exact words that were offensive but her tone of voice, unfriendly face, and manner that made it come off as rude. The ranch looked clean and well kept. All the horses I viewed looked healthy and well taken care of. They had one porta potty for the guests and it definitely needed servicing. The waste tank was practically full and the user before me warned me to "use at my own risk." At least they had a sink to wash your hands afterwards. Overall, the actual ride and guide were great. I did enjoy myself and would recommend the experience. I think the hour trail ride was long enough for me. With the horses kicking up dust, some Cottonwood/Poplar Seeds floating around like pollen and not being about to take any water with you. My mouth did get dry and I was thirsty but I made it through :) read more

We had a great time at S&D! Our guide Hailey was amazing! She was very thorough giving detailed instructions and advice and was super friendly! The trails were beautiful and well maintained. Our horses were also great! There is a trail that takes you around the perimeter of the ranch so you can see all of the animals which was fun. We will definitely return soon for another ride. read more

First time riding horses and was able to take my son along. We both had a great time. Everyone is extremely nice and helpful. They have lockers to put your things so no need to worry about losing anything on your ride. The horses are well trained and basically walk themselves. I will definitely come back again. The only thing I wish was different was anyone under 18 has to wear a helmet but I do understand that's done for safety and insurance purposes so I know their hands are tied with that rule. The whole experience made me wish I lived in a place I could have my own horse cause it was so much fun. Thank you for the memories made riding with my son on the 4th of July! read more

My family had a great and an unforgettable day horse back riding. My seven year old was nervous but capable since she was given a pony perfect for her size and temperament named Bubbles while my nine year old had a gentle one named Sadie. I love my little Mandy whose white coat and red spots looked so impressive. My hubby has a solid dark brown male horse Donnie. All were well fed and healthy and strong. We had Ebony as our guide and teacher and she was patient, knowledgeable and with great calming positive energy that's great for us new riders. Other than the issue of the difficulty of reaching them, they made up for it when Sonja (owner) called me back and replied and got me on a discounted weekend deal for 3 riders on a time slot that worked out for us. We get to use different trails: uphill, downhill, roadside, horse trails, and etc. highly recommended! read more

First time on this trail ride. No stranger to riding though we did have a first timer in our group. Everything from calling to book to our dismount was awesome!!! Our tour guide Irene was super sweet and attentive of everyone in our group! Everyone helped to match us with the right horse and we enjoyed our ride from beginning to end! I've been on a few different trail rides with other companies but the ease of booking, customer service, horses, trail, and overall experience is top notch here!!! Had a wonderful ride today with our guys Sophie. Me and my wife was enjoying her birthday gift going on a horseback trail ride. Hill horses was well managed and they're very gentle. 15 out of 10!!! Danielle and Brooke were excellent guides. Even added some excitement to our ride. Had a police chase happen right by up when riding and those horses handled the speeding cars like champs. If you're a beginner and worried about being thrown off...FEAR NOT! I've been going here for years and have recommended this place to many people in the past, however, yesterday the experience me and my friends had was not pleasant. At my last visit the staff seemed very unprepared and couldn't find a bridle for a horse I was going to ride and spent some time trying to find this. They also gave my friend a horse that they said was "fussy" despite it being his first time riding. This horse was attempting to buck multiple times and tried nipping at his legs throughout the ride. The instructors response to this was to tell him to adjust his hold on the horse with a "just hold him lower" phrase but never showed him how he was holding it wrong and never checked in to see if the rider was okay and then continued on the trail. It wasn't until the 3rd time the horse had attempted to buck that she moved the horse closer to her. He was so scared he didn't want a picture and it was no longer a fun experience for him. When we mentioned this to the employees when we were done with our ride they made it seem like it was our fault despite them being advertised to welcome first time riders. They mentioned the things HE should have done to make his experience better even though as a first time rider he didn't know this information and felt that the instructions during the ride were unclear. In addition, I also had a horse that was spooked by the trailers on the road on our way to and back from the trail and took off on a short impromptu sprint 2-3 times. The saddle I had was also crooked and was leaning far left by the time we arrived back although I had mentioned this was misaligned when I had first gotten on the horse at the beginning of our ride. Near the end of the trail she also seemed to be bothered by her bridle and distracted as she was no longer walking straight and continuously nodding her head. I think in the future they can work more with their riders since not all riders are audio learners, but visual learners instead. I also think they should try paying more attention to things ahead of time so if an animal is missing supplies or is not tacked correctly, this issue can be fixed ahead of time and not done at the last minute. I also feel that the staff know the horses the best and should be able to create a welcoming environment to any rider as advertised and assign riders with little to no experience with a less "fussy" horse as that can make or break the experience for the individual riding that day. Overall, this experience was disappointing for myself and my friend. Although I've been multiple times throughout the last few years without issues, this experience has changed my perspective completely. I no longer plan on going back due to the negative response to our situation, the unpreparedness from the staff, and lack of empathy to their customers on multiple occasions. read more

Specialties

Sunshine and Daydreams is a local, private horseback riding stable created by Sonja Trefethen in 1990 as an alternative to traditional rent strings. There are two barns: one in Norco, Horsetown USA at the edge of the Hidden Valley Wildlife preserve, and another at Schabarum Regional Park in Rowland Heights. Sunshine and Daydreams is renowned for it's specialization in safety and instruction. The majority of Sunshine and Daydreams' customers are beginners, many of whom have never ridden a horse before, although many advanced riders enjoy learning faster-paced transitions with instruction from the staff. Every rider is individually coached based on their knowledge and practice of correct horseback riding with the purpose of beginning or improving their horsemanship skills. Safe and independent riding is at the core of Sunshine and Daydreams' goal. We offer the truest trail-riding experience possible. Individual groups are not bunched together in mass rides, nor are the horses put in a line and marched nose-to-tail at one set speed. Each reservation is guided privately by at least one of our experienced trail guides, and riders are encouraged to ride side-by-side while being completely in control of the direction and speed of their horse. Experience is always taken into consideration. All riders are asked to respect the skills of their fellow group-members, and ride at the pace of the weakest rider in the group.

History

Established in 1992.

We started as a way to rescue older and neglected horses. Taking folk out on trail rides was a relaxing way to condition the horses and pay for the feed. Some of us are just born horse crazy ! I have been asking since I was 4 riding since I was 6 and owned since I was 9. I rode all the horses in the barn and if they thru me off I rode them again! I started as a trail guide as a summer job when I was 14. And started my own when I was 16 with neglected and senior horses looking for a second chance. I moved to Riverside and expanded my string in 1999. My barn manager Darian has been riding with me for over 10 years she is a amazing horseman and instructor, the horses and riders are as lucky as I am that she came into my barn. It is our passion to share the art of horseback riding with other horse crazy people adults who work but would rather be riding and kids that would rather be riding then work. Recently JCSD has put up 20 miles per hour speed limit signs that say yield to pedestrians and some mirrors to help see around sharp turns. 20 mile per hour speed limit might be an okay speed limit on the straight parts of the trail, but 20 miles per hour isn't at all safe around the sharp turns. I have had to jump in the bushes and pull my dog off the trail several times from E-bikes racing around a curve in the trail.

I thought this would be a great way to use our funds and teach him pool safety. Fast forward to today, my son has since turned 7 this year, and he still does not know how to swim or even put his head under the water. Granted, we were not going consistently. But for the past 3 months we have taken him weekly. Before that we did 2 other months I believe. I thought, let's just keep trying, maybe it's just that he's scared and he'll learn if we stick it out. My child struggles with sensory issues and has not been interested in getting his face wet. He also has a harder time being around other kids in very close proximity which, he definitely is here. He did the group lessons for 30 mins and they're basically shoulder to shoulder most of the time. So, the good: when he first started he really liked the two different teachers that worked w/him. The class was usually just him and one other child. The location is clean, and the staff seemed friendly. My son also mostly enjoyed the time and being in the pool, so it was good for getting more experience around other kids, teachers and being in a new environment. The negative: the teachers rotate so you never know who you're going to get. So one teacher might know where your kid is at, but then a new person comes in the next week and it's like starting all over. It seems hard to build a comfortable relationship with the teachers because of this as well. Also, my son never progressed much at all. He moved to the larger pool this year and it's been 3 kids to 1 teacher. recently, however, there were 4 kids in the class. I timed it on my phone out of curiosity- to see exactly how much 1:1 time he got during that class. 4 mins and 9 seconds. Total. The class moved like a conveyor belt just shuffling the kids around, I couldn't believe the kids were getting less than 5 mins each with the teacher. The time in between their turn, they're just holding on to the edge of the pool waiting. My son felt very cramped and two other kids were being kids and having fun but disrupting the class, so the teacher's attention was mainly spent on telling them to stop doing what they were doing. My son was frustrated and felt like he wasted his time. He also had safety concerns because the kids were practically on top of him at times and kicking and splashing in his personal space, so I don't blame him. He's already afraid as it is. Today we went back and there were 4 kids again. He just didn't want to do it again. The kids seem to be on a hamster wheel. The teachers, though friendly, simply don't have adequate time to actually teach the kids anything solid. It's like busy work. I also had a strange phone conversation with the owner recently. to be frank, she kept trying to rush me off the phone and I kept having to say "oh, wait sorry" (nicely) because i had more than one question but she seemed bothered with me. She also didn't explain about making up a certain day and how many days I had to reschedule when my kid got sick. You only get one make up class for the whole year which seems odd to me. We already missed two classes due to vacation (1 planned reschedule) and sickness (she apparently gave us 7 days from the date of the class to reschedule but didn't actually communicate that to me- I found out from the girls at the front desk AFTER the fact and the 7 days passed, which was frustrating because I would have brought him in. I guess I was supposed to assume what she meant when she asked "what does he have??" As in asking what illness he had. I said idk, a cold I think? But wasn't sure. So she "made a note" on her end but never specified that I had to come in within 7 days to make it up. Which really was just a courtesy reschedule because they don't even offer that. So, oh well. Honestly though, even beyond all this, I could see and feel the judgement when I mentioned today that my kid was more easily overwhelmed and we would maybe look into one on one classes for the future. I got the impression that there was very little understanding or empathy there for my child, and my family and I felt brushed off. Bottom line, just not for us. 4 kids is too many for one pool. 4 mins is not enough time to give each kid when you're paying for 30. Maybe one on one classes are different, or with smaller groups, but I had too many incidents where I brought up a concern and felt dismissed. In the future we'll be going elsewhere but I'm bummed we went for so long with really not much to show for it. At the very least my kid got a little more comfortable being in the water but for paying about $400-$500 total and like 4-5 months of weekly classes? I would not say this was worth that time or money unfortunately.

DO NOT RIDE AT THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU ARE OKAY WITH: 1. Untrained horses 2. Very spooky horses(they will spook at nothing and throw you off) 3. In-person viewing of horses getting kicked in the face 4. Ill-fitting tack 5. Terrible wranglers 6. Irrelevant rules 7. Rude owner 8. A chance of a boring non-scenic ride First off, we did not go through the riverbed as promised. That is the most iconic part about riding in Norco. Instead of that, we went through the dusty fields. It was very windy that day, so the dust started blowing in everyone's eyes. Along the way, there is a special stretch where the 2-hour riders canter the horses. Once we got there, one of the beginner's horses took off with him. A beginner-trail-ride trained horse will never take off, even if that is the part they get cantered. Next, the wrangler was ponying a little girl on a nice little bay horse. The reason I am saying a nice little bay horse is because the horse really was nice. She was young, and had this spark none of the others had. I knew I liked her from when the wrangler first brought her out. So I don't know exactly what she did to the wrangler, but I turn my head and see the wrangler kicking that mare IN THE FACE. Now, one thing about me is I have this rule--if you won't do half of something to your kid, don't do it to your horse. Kicking a horse in the *face* is very extreme and harmful. Most horses become head shy when they get beat in the face. Unfortunately, it is common to see a head shy horse, and it take a while to heal those mental wounds. Now, that wrangler didn't kick the mare in the face only once. Not even twice or three times. She went on and on in a rage, kicking and kicking, and pulling down on the bit. The young mare wasn't even doing anything anymore, but that wrangler kept at it. She really reminded me of that psychotic "Cash me Ousside" girl. Remember now folks, using such harsh "training" methods on a young horse will have consequences in the future. It is a terrible way to fix bad habits. WOULD YOU DO THAT TO YOUR OWN CHILD?? Another fault there was the fact that if that mare was as young as she looked, and caused problems, she should not be out on trail ridden by a young child who even had to be ponied. Bad decision, but money making is most important huh? Now to the best (haha just kidding, it is actually the worst) part--we were almost finished with the ride and suddenly my horse slowed down a little before passing a very small ditch. Drum roll please--he spooked and jumped in the air. Of course, I went along on the flight and fell on my left hip on the almost cement ground. After I fell, I couldn't get up for a solid 5 minutes. Once I got up, the world around me started to darken and there was a loud buzzing in my ears. Yes, I almost fainted. I have fallen countless times already, but it was never this bad. I mean, the ground was practically cement, so that made the fall tremendously worse than it could have been if I had a soft landing. It really hurt to put pressure on my left leg/side. I knew I didn't break anything there, but boy did it hurt. The wrangler offered me to ride her horse. He was a lot smaller than the horse I was riding, but I refused. Miraculously, I managed to swing up onto my tall horse from the ground. It literally felt like someone was cutting my entire hip in half when I swung up. But hey, victory ensued! I was up and alive. Everyone made it back safe and sound, but wow this is an experience to learn from. Never am I ever riding here again, and I (along with many of my horse friends with and without clients) will never recommend that someone rides here. It is for their own good. An experienced horse trainer and breeder friend of mine and I both concluded that the horses at this place are very unsafe to be ridden by beginners. My horse spooked at literally nothing, and the horse behind us spooked at us and jumped back (that same horse was the one who took off earlier). Not a good beginner horse characteristic. In conclusion, I do not regret riding here, but I will never be coming back again. It was too expensive and painful to be a good experience all in all. My hip bone popped out of alignment and pinched my sciatica nerve. This occurred in April, but I still have problems with my left hip to this day. For the first couple months, I couldn't walk, run, or sleep on anything but my stomach or right side. Since then, I've spent HUNDREDS of dollars on a chiropractor to adjust my hip... Folks, do not risk riding at this terrible place. Ride at Western Trails, or at another place. Just not here. If I, an experienced equestrian, got such an injury, then you can too. read more

So first off, I'm no stranger to horses. I own one for myself and keep it at my parent's place. I wanted to do something cute for my first anniversary with my boyfriend because he'd already surprised me with a fancy dinner. He'd never been around horses before, and the only horses my parents and I own are Arabians, which, depending on the mindset of the animal, are typically not suitable for people who have never ridden a horse before, AKA my boyfriend, lol. So I started looking online for places close to home that catered for what I wanted. This was not the first place on the list when I typed in horseback riding, trust me I checked them all out, but I knew a nose to tail string wouldn't cut it, and the Sweetheart Ride was the first thing I saw when I clicked on the link for this place. I called up and with a pleasant greeting and a quick Q&A, everything was booked smoothly. I LOVE good costumer service. The place we rode out of was a little difficult to find seeing as my beloved decided he knew riverside better than the owner, but once he started listening to the directions we found it with no problem. The horses were well maintained and looked really healthy and sound ( they weren't limping). The guide was super easy to ride with, and kept the conversation going really well. Her instructions for riding were very straightforward, and it was their way or the highway, but she explained that it was to keep consistency for the horses, and it makes for a safer ride, which is always important when you're riding a 1200 pound flight animal. The combination of the beautiful scenery from the Hidden Valley Wildlife Preserve, the chocolates, champagne, horses, and a great guide was just so beyond exemplary, and I would definitely recommend going on this ride, or any other rides that they have to offer. They will certainly be getting more business from me and anyone I talk to! read more

just went to sunshine and daydreams for the first time yesterday! I surprised my best friend as a going away to college present for the both of us! we had always talked about going horseback riding when we were kids because I used to ride and she had never been on a horse before, long story short yesterday was her first time on a horse. Sunshine and daydreams website is very easy to navigate and make your reservation which was very helpful. also, Sonja answered her phone EVERYTIME I called and was very helpful in answering all my questions. she assured me that because my friend was a beginner that she would be fine and she was! there are a couple different rides to chose from and we chose the 2 hour weekday. it was soo fun! I loved the fact that it wasn't a normal nose-to-tail trial ride and we had more "freedom" with our horses and that it was just us 2 and our guide. our horses were very well behaved but we still got some action when we trotted and cantered down the trails! our guide was very nice and helpful and my beginner friend had a blast! I WOULD DEFINITLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYONE BEGINNERS AND ADVANCED RIDERS. I recommend that IF YOU HAVE A BEGINNER RIDER WITH YOU to let the guide know before you get on the horse to go over with the beginner(s) the rules and how to of riding horses properly. My opinion? S&D is the best place in the area. I went there last Saturday for the first time and I'm pretty sure I'll go again and again. If you want to experience something different from the usual "tailgating" ride, this is what you're looking for. You are allowed to ride along with your friend(s) so that you can both enjoy the view and have a nice chat. Even the one hour ride is amazing because you don't spend much time on paved road, maybe just 15 minutes before getting on the actual trail. The staff is super friendly and they will gladly answer any question. Elizabeth, my guide, told me about the breeds they own and how to recognize some of them. Since I've always loved horses, I really appreciated the fact that she shared this info with me. Before leaving the stables, your guide will explain to you how to do pretty much anything and they will make sure that every doubt has been clarified. If they notice anything wrong, they will promptly correct you in order to keep you safe and make your ride pleasant. One more thing that I loved about S&D is that there are no big groups. They divide you into parties, according to how many riders your party has. Mine was a party of 5 and as I said before, the fact that the horses weren't tailgating each other let us talk to each other and have a great time. Guys, go ride with S&D! read more

I'm a grad student who's inside all day, and I desperately needed to get out and see the summer sun. I had seen people horse riding in Norco and thought I'd give it a try. Sunshine and Daydreams had their schedule up online so making an appointment and paying was really easy convenient. Alex was my guide and I believe Bella was my horse. It was quite the ride. We started off on North Ave and we rode by a nursery and through the Santa Ana river bed, which is now a nature preserve. It was surprisingly green with even some exotic plants present (there was a Bamboo canopy over the trail). We took another trail uphill, which led us to a 1920s era hydroelectric plant (ruins) which I thought was pretty cool. Alex, my guide, was personable and customized the ride to my needs. He asked what type of a ride I was looking for (easy, medium, hard trail) and provided solid riding instruction. I had never ridden before so I wasn't aware how our feet were supposed to be positioned in stirrups or how to hold reigns. I learned basic commands: clicking/squeezing to speed up and pulling in reigns to slow down. We even progressed to a trot a few times-which felt surprisingly different on the saddle (very bouncy). All in all, it was a fun ride with a great value. Would highly recommend! read more

Took my family horseback riding here to celebrate a birthday. It was a very bad experience. The trail was horrible way too much dust/dirt. The horses sneezed the whole ride jerking and all. I felt so bad for these animals, the condition of the trail was certainly not up to my expectations. I understand and expected some dirt but it was totally ridiculous and there was no warning as to just how much dust we would have to deal with. Thank goodness we all had our COVID19 face mask but I was still coughing and choking on all that dust. We all needed to be hosed off after the ride. Dirt was everywhere. In our eyes, my eyes burned for the remaider of the day our hair was temporarily colored dusty brown. Please don't go here if you suffer from any allergies I will never go there again. Would much rather drive to San Diego which would be another hour for me but worth it for a more pleasant experience. Also, they tell you phones are not allowed and they will take pictures and send by text/email for free. The pictures were awful, all of them were blurry and weren't worth printing. This was a big let down considering we were celebrating a birthday. But an experience like this for any reason warrants good pictures. You have been warned! read more

Instruction and a trail ride I'm an organizer for a horseback riding MeetUp group and I was looking for a new event location stable where we could rent horses, but get more challenge and instruction than your typical rental stable, yet not have to sign-up for a lesson package or training in the arena. Sunshine and Daydreams really meets this need. As other folks said, the location is in a neighborhood and mapquest is good, but you have to look for the address on the mailbox, park on the street and walk up to the top of the driveway to find where you meet your guides and horses. While the starting spot isn't an impressive, fancy barn, (more like a backyard) Sonja and Darian the owner and our guide were very professional, safety conscious and caring. The two-hour ride we went on (me and my meetup group co-organizer) was fun for both me as a more experienced rider and my less experienced friend who felt she got a great opportunity to practice, try new things and learn from Darian while we were out on the trail. The views were great and we got the opportunity to ride hills and flat terrain. I will be scheduling other MeetUp events here and riding again myself! read more

my daughters gave me gift certificates to go riding here . im so glad they did !the stables were easy to find ,and nice parking too. the staff was very friendly,and im 5ft tall and im really glad they had a platform with steps so i got on my horse no problem! the horses were right there ready to go ,and they all looked well taken care of.ive gone twice and my guide ashley was wonderful! she made me feel completly at ease i was a little neurvous the first time. i grew up riding horses but it had been 20 years since i last rode one and she talked to me and and my confedence came right back and all the love i had for riding since i was 2yrs old in my heart came right back and i was completly at ease !!!!and very happy too!!.the ride through the bamboo tunnels was really cool and we stopped and took pictures . i had great horses to ride, lil bit is awesome!they are family friendly too ! our group had a family with a couple kids maybe 9yr and 14yrs old and they had fun too!theyve got 2hr rides too im going back soon ill go for a 2hour ride next ! im really happy with the stables and the staff are great ,the ride in the riverbed is cool and the horses are wonderfull! read more

I took my mom and two sisters here for a Sunday ride and it was Awsome. I used the online booking as it was about 2 minutes before their closing time.It was easy and straight forward. Once I booked I had a few questions so I called. The lady(forgot her name) was very helpful and willing to answer my may questions. I let her know I had just used the online booking and she took the time to look up my booking and confirm it for me. Upon arrival the staff was very welcoming and warm. The horses all seemed to be well taken care of and happy. Megan who I believe is the manager let me know she would be our guide. I let her know that my mom had not been on a horse since childhood and my sister had never rode at all. She wasted no time making them comfortable explaining and answering all questions and never once was inpatient. She not only knew her stuff and obviously loves what she does, she is also willing to share and do all she can to make your ride as fun and safe as possible.She is the BEST.Out of all of the places to go ride horses I would without a doubt recommed Sunsine and Megan first. read more

Loved this place I took my bestfriend for her 18th birthday only thing that sucked was we weren't allowed to have our phones in case they got lost but another lady was taking videos almost the whole time our instructor saw her once and told her not to she was super nice the other lady who came along had her niece with her she was very annoying because she kept trying to be a know it all and the whole time kind of bragging on how often she rides horses. At the end of our ride we were all getting off our horses and it was clear we wait for the instructor because she was going one by one helping us get off I already knew how to get off and still waited for her that's just the right thing to do. Then when the instructor got the 3rd out of 4th person off the lady decided to get off her horse as the instructor turned her back. Then she tried to act like she didn't kno she wasn't supposed to get off without the instructor. Overall it was a fun experience it was super hot but none of us let it ruin it for us only change I would ask for is better pictures the ones they sent were super blurry read more

I took my son here this afternoon. We had decided the previous night that we had wanted to go for a ride the next day. I booked a 2 hour block on their website and in the middle of it I hit the back button on accident and was not able to pay for it. I checked the schedule the today and my name was not on the schedule, so I decided to call. When I got a hold of the owner, she was very accommodating and was able to get us in at around the same time that we had planned. When we got their our guide Stephanie greeted us at the gate and got us set up and on our way within 5 minutes. My son, who has only ridden once or twice before, had some slight difficulty working with the horse, but Stephanie was constantly working with him and reminding him of what he was supposed to be doing. The ride was amazing, but nothing was better than seeing the smile on the face of my 13 year old the whole entire time. Stephanie took some amazing photos of us and was full of information. I would definitely come back and recommend them for people who are not that experienced. read more

We've been to lots of riding stables: locally, and at Catalina, Hawaii, Santa Barbara, and more; but we really liked the horses and guide at Sunshine and Daydreams. Two things (aside from the guide) stood out: 1) The horses did not have to ride nose-to-tail; you can ride side-by-side and take turns leading, and 2) The guide (Darian in our ride) respectfully gives you lots of riding tips to make you a better rider which benefits both you and the horse. It's like getting a ride and lesson wrapped into one. Darian was willing to use my camera to takes pictures of us throughout the ride. It was great. She told us about some packages they have where you can buy blocks of hours to take riding lessons; which sounds great and is something I look forward to very soon. Where the stables are located, you have 3,000 acres of trails to ride with some great views and stream crossings, ponds, and you can ride near the Santa Ana River. Great location. I only stumbled upon this site by accident. Happened to live relatively near it, and could not have dreamed of a better experience. My girlfriend and I took a special "Sweetheart Ride", and for everything that was provided, at the value it was, I was stunned to experience a lively farm, with a very friendly staff. The views during the sunset time slot were incredible, taking our breath away as the sun literally disappeared behind the multiple mountain facades that took the light from our squinting eyes. The horses were beautiful and very easy to get used to. Champagne, chocolates, and a wonderful experience all in all, at the value it was, this place was a "Hidden Gem" and we will most definitely return for another ride. Credit to Sonja, she was a "city slickers" best friend as we dream for an authentic ride into nature. Even the short trip up half a block of asphalt to the massive acreage was symbolic in its own right. Absolutely loved this place and cant wait to go back. read more

I must say this was probably the best 25$ dollars I ever spent well worth it! I was very nervous upon arriving I did not know what to expect I've never been on a horse before but as soon as i met with our instructors Megan and Stephanie I knew it was going to be fun! They were very helpful to my friends and I and we did go in a group of 5 and they guided us every step of the way .They took plenty of pictures as promised and that was a big deal for me because I wanted this experience to be capture as a memory forever. The view was amazing and the ride itself was mellow and relaxing.my friends and I had a blast and we plan on returning soon its the best place to invest 25$ can not go wrong with that price and like I said before the scenery was amazing and I can not wait to return.Be sure to ask for Megan and Stephanie as your guide tour they'll make your horseback riding experience that much more worth it you wont regret it ! My mother and I (both novice riders) signed up for the 11am 1-hour weekday ride. We found the place easily. The directions were good and we were able to easily park. We were the only ones there at the time, and were quickly greeted. Our guide Darian (sp?) got us onto our horses (Scooter and Rex) and away we went! The area is residential, but not far from open meadows and Hidden Valley Animal Reserve and the Santa Ana River. There was plenty of room to ride! The horses were easygoing and seemed happy. They weren't fidgety or high-strung, but they also did not seem tired or overburdened. We had an easy walking ride through beautiful meadows. Our guide pointed out different wildlife as we rode and told us about the horses we were riding. She was knowledgeable and friendly and everything felt relaxed and comfortable. It was the most enjoyable horseback ride we've ever had, and we would definitely do it again. Hopefully we can take on the 2-hour ride soon! read more

I ride frequently at S&D Horseback Riding, and love it there! The staff if very friendly and attentive, the horses are well taken care of, and are extremely responsive, setting up a reservation or same day walk-in is always easy when you call and their website Is great too! What's really cool is you learn while you ride, and they take awesome pictures for you! The trails are beautiful, riding through the bamboo tunnels on the one hour ride with family and friends is fun, and their two hour ride gets you all over the Hidden Valley Wildlife Preserve, plus the two hour rides are great for learning to go a little faster, usually working on jog/trot transitions, but as well as cantering for more advanced riders! It is such a treat to not have to ride the horses in a straight line down the trail like most other rent strings, at S&D they always have you ride up together, side by side in the group! Lots to learn, beautiful trails, and great customer service! read more

My boyfriend and I went on a ride at S&D a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The time we booked our ride happened to have no one else, which allowed us to have an almost private ride through Norco. It was a guided trail and the girl who was guiding us was very nice, friendly, and informative. We picked the one hour long ride and went through flower gardens, and through and bamboo trail near the Santa Ana riverbed. However, we didn't have our ride next to the riverbed since it takes about an hour to get there from the ranch and an hour to get back. If you'd like to see the river, our guide mentioned that the two hour trail takes you down there. The entire experience with the ranch was positive. However, we did book our ride for around noon in the middle of summer which was a mistake on our part. It was really hot, so I recommend going in towards the morning or in the afternoon. We had a wonderful time and will likely be going again! :) read more

I booked a 2 hour ride for myself and 2 granddaughters. It had been 30 yrs since I had ridden, one g-kid never and one had been a few times. We were so excited and Sonya was a PERFECT GUIDE & TEACHER. She was no nonsense and taught us exactly what to do to keep us in control of the horses. The trail gave us a great view of the Santa Ana River. It was a fun morning and I am so glad we had such a great experience together. We can't wait to ride again. Our 2 hour ride was actually short by a half hour which Sonya said will be credited to our next ride. Also, love the fact that the horses are all getting a second chance at having a family of their own or the life that suits them best. I rode Rex, a retired race horse. He loves to work and is happy on the trail. Thank you Sonya, for being exactly what we needed on our "maiden trail ride". Caddie is already planning a ride for her 13th B-day. Sonja and her expert team are excellent teachers. Whether you wanted to or not, you'll earn something about riding a horse when you show up at the ranch. Their horses are kind and reasonable, and they have a beautiful personalities. Sunshine & Daydreams has the right equipment for anyone of any size, and they'll go above and beyond the expected to make you happy. Sonja is a tough horse lady, and if you don't want to learn how to stay safe on a horse, don't go to Sonja. But if you want to learn, have a beautiful ride across a wonderful wildlife preserve with startling views and even the occasional coyote or ground owl, and become part of a larger horse community that's been established for 20 years, go here, and keep coming back. Their prices are more than reasonable, and if you take a lesson block, they are even more reasonable - check 'em out and see what they can do for you. read more

This place saved the day! Took my little girl out today for a horseback ride at a different location. Unfortunately, they messed up the date and she couldn't ride there. There was no way I could disappoint my little girl on her birthday. As a part time dad, making sure every moment with her is special I couldn't let this day be ruined. I frantically searched Yelp and found S&D Horseback Riding, called, and was told "come on down we'll take care of you"! That they did... Their staff was very attentive, kind, and informative every step of the way. They add little things to their business to increase the experience each rider has. I am very grateful to have found this place and definitely will be coming back. My little girl got to have her special day and I got to be the hero of the day (for once) all thanks to this place. read more
