David took the unit apart, and in removing the drain pan he found a buildup the was keeping the pan from emptying totally. He proceeded to remove the blower which definitely needed service and clean and reassemble the unit. He the checked the split system, put anti sludge that I had in the drain pan, flushed the drain and then clean both the outside units. We scheduled service for next year.

But, the Powell Brothers show up on time with a more than fair in fact, generous quote. Not only did they fix my unit, but they gained my admiration and friendship. This is what the Powell Brothers bring to our community. The national chains are going to hijack your bank account for their shareholders. These fellas work hard and do great work at a more than fair price. They should be your first and only consideration for heat and air. They are mine.

They also completely refused to itemize the invoice for the elderly couple. Shop around. I know Melton's had a good name in Clinton, but they were bought out by somebody else and not owned by the original owner anymore. Their blatant overcharge and lack of transparency is very concerning, especially in dealing with an elderly couple. My suspicion is that they refuse to itemize invoices to hide their upcharges, including the maintenance agreement that is included in the "one price". And, just as shady, they never gave them a written estimate of work. I saw another review on here about them doing that and the company replied that they'd fix that, but apparently never did. When I called and politely asked the owner to explain the excessive cost, he became belligerent and threatened me with a lawyer and was too embarrassed to tell me how much the new unit cost. But they weren't too embarrassed to tell my elderly friends that their new Goodman/Amana unit is just as good as the Trane that they were replacing. And watch out for their $150 Comfort yearly inspections, which somehow managed to miss the problems in their old unit last year while it was still under warranty. Bottom line: my friends trusted this company and got ripped off so bad the owner refused to explain the charges. Additionally, despite what Melton's website says, Trane told me that Melton's is not an authorized Trane dealer. Do your homework on this company before using them. I had a conversation with another HVAC company about an identical install. Their installed price? $5700
