The following is factual, not emotional, but is worth the read. I've been in real estate and development for 40 years, and own properties in Nashville TN but live in another state, so can't personally inspect suppliers' work very often. Over a 2 year period I paid nearly $25,000 to Jeremy Scales of Sunshine for 3 HVAC units, all for the same commercial property. Generally, the quality of work is good but the honesty factor is severely lacking, though the one thing that Jeremy emphasizes, often very loudly, is how "honest" he is. 1) It wasn't Jeremy Scales' fault that the first air handler needed replacing late in 2023. He replaced it, but never would give me the serial number of the unit so I could call it in to the Goodman company for warranty. He kept saying he would, but never did. Before the job he had told me the warranty was 10 years and that he would personally service the unit for that 10-year period, and my understanding was that he would service it for free during the first year after installation if anything went wrong. After installation I found out that Goodman's commercial warranty is only 5 years, but he told me not to worry because he had already reported it to Goodman as a residential unit. Apparently he had done this before so that Goodman's 10 year residential warranty would be in effect for commercial properties. 2) It wasn't Jeremy Scales' fault that he had to replace a rooftop compressor in mid-2024 when a windstorm toppled the compressor over, but he again would not give me the serial numbers. Since the toppled compressor was actually still working fine before he removed it, he agreed to sell it for me and hauled it back to his house in Watertown. 3) It wasn't his fault that the building flooded on April 4 2025, and he subsequently had to replace the whole system; however, he would not give me the serial numbers for those units either. And, since the rooftop compressor that he had installed less than a year earlier was still working fine, and since he couldn't find an air handler that matched up to that compressor, he again agreed to sell it for me, and he hauled it back to Watertown 4) In April 2026 the new system went on the blitz. After several delays, he finally made a service call and then sent me a $130 invoice, which did not outline what the problem was or what he did. When I asked him for a summary of the problem and what he did to fix it, he told me that if I wanted that I would have to pay him for another hour of work, and if I didn't, or if I refused o pay the $130 invoice, he would sell the two working compressors of mine that he took to his house and "apply that to the invoice". Those two used units were worth at least $700. I refused to be blackmailed, so he "divorced" himself from me and told me he was going to sue me for defamation. For what? I have no idea. I'm sure that would hold up in court. However, I almost expect him to sabotage the new HVAC system. read more

Jeremy, with Sunshine, saved our family from freezing. A few weeks ago, when we had the long-winded cold snap, our emergency heat stopped working. We called several companies, and not many even answered their phones. Sunshine came to our rescue. He was VERY prompt, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Upon completion, he gave us an extremely fair price. This man is a true local man with a heart of gold. His number one priority was the safety and comfort of our family. Not a good experience at all. We used him to install new units and that went ok, not great. Messy work that needs to be fixed. When it came time for heat, it wouldn't work. Come to find out he "forgot" to put the right size breaker in. Fast forward to now and the air wouldn't work. Over two weeks to get a part and then tried to bill me for Freon. Over $1,200 and wanted me to pay up front claiming the manufacturer required proof of purchase for Freon before he could get the part. After checking with other contractors and the EPA, found out this was not true and that my Freon doesn't even have to be dumped. His "labor warranty" is worth nothing. He will try to get his money in other ways. Hale Mechanical came out, got my unit working immediately and will have my new part in a couple of days, covered by warranty! Edit to add: He is even texting me now upset that I am "bashing" him for "following the rules". He outright lied to me today and I literally was told that by the manufacturer. read more

Had come out for a warranty service call on a Hayward pool pump. I never saw a bill until the other day, and when it came it had a $ 5-a-day late fee! He never once mailed an invoice for $130, he only supposedly emailed them. After talking to him he removed the $ 5-a-day fee which took the $130 service call up to $860 by the time I saw the first invoice. I also talked to Hayward and they claim he never submitted anything to get my pump repaired. So he came out looked at my pump, did not invoice me for months, did not submit paperwork to Hayward. I debated giving him 2-stars as I know Hayward is a pain and that he did take off the excess charge. However, in my conversation he swore multiple times, this is not indicative of professionalism, nor of the Christian values that the Cross in his logo implies. I paid the $130 just so I could be done. I warn you if you decide to do business with this company, don't expect to receive a timely invoice and be ready for an outlandish late fee, that he blames on QuickBooks. As a person who has managed a store that used QuickBooks, I can tell you, that this is something he implemented and is not something QB does by default. Oh, the Hayward rep also noted that this company is no longer an authorized repairer for them because of multiple complaints. read more

I'd steer clear of this company. Jeremy Scales, the owner, is incompetent. Poster child for giving contractor's a bad name. Doesn't show up when he says he will. He got here right away to collect 3300 bucks. But a month later, he still wasn't done. I had said twice, can it done by X date and he assured me he would. Never happened. What he did complete was absolutely shoddy workmanship that I have to now pay somebody else to correct. No regard for my property. Left his cigarette butts all over my front yard. Incompetent, lack of communication, and price gouged 22-years experience doesn't mean they are good at what the do. Call a professional company like Lee Company or Bentley's (past experience) and get it done right the first time. Owner, Jeremy Scales initially appeared to care for our situation of being without AC on a hot Saturday afternoon yet took until Monday evening before having completed the job. Like anyone without AC in the summer - we were at their mercy, unfortunately, I had to reach out for answers and estimated time of arrival each time and miss work Monday. The service tech went above and beyond to help by texting and calling Jeremy for his next move when he knew the first trip we just needed to replace a fan motor and circuit board. We went all Sunday without any communication, follow up and certainly no work being done. At this point, I knew I should have just called a proven, professional company and paid the "emergency fee" for weekend service. Monday night I was handed a bill for almost $1,300 !! (Fan motor and board). Jeremy charged me 300% markup on the two parts and an extra $160 for windshield time (service trip to confirm what he already knew from the tech) back and forth from Mt. Juliet to Watertown. read more
