Sunshine Skate Center - My honest reaction to this place: disgusted - Skating Rinks Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

One of my favorite places to go to hangout with friends. I met some amazing skaters and they helped me become so much better!!

Went to a birthday party and the entire staff was extremely rude. Nobody that works there is helpful and if you ask a question expect to get snapped at. I was shocked at how unfriendly the employees are. There was a middle aged man and two teenage girls working there. All three of them looked like they hated their jobs. My sons go cart stopped working and the girl working there just looked at him and walked away. When my husband went to help him get it started she fussed at him for walking onto the skating rink but he immediately put her in her place. As soon as the party was over they shut all of the games off with no warning and when my husband asked to trade his tokens in the guy rudely told him he can come back to use them. read more

Refuses to provide an enjoyable skating experience for younger skaters. I brought my kids into skate last night (12/28/23) because it was my oldest son's birthday, and we wanted to have a fun outing as a family. We were one of the first few people there. I requested slow rolling skates for youngest two (6, and 4). I was told that they only had walkers for my six year old, and that they had already run out of walkers for my four year old. That's a bummer, but I figured we would just try with the skates provided. The skates that they gave my six year old were not walkers, and did not roll slow. We skated for a few minutes and it was apparent that my kids were not ready for these skates. I asked the two kids running the skating counter if they would please tighten the bearings a bit, and they refused. They offered a walking device to my kids and we tried that. Now, when they fall every thirty seconds the walking device is being thrown across the skating rink floor. Just 10/10 disaster. Nobody is enjoying this experience. One of the employees who I'd previously discussed this problem with comes out to skate, and squeezes through two small children at high speeds, and knocked my daughter over. He was heard talking ugly to other small children and cussing by my oldest son. I venture out to the front and kindly ask to speak to the manager. The manager comes out and I explain what's happening. He tells me that they don't even have walkers in my six year old size (this is the child that I was told was receiving walkers.) And he hesitantly agrees to tighten the bearings on my four year old skates, but he wouldn't work on my six year olds skates. I rounded up all of my kids, asked to be refunded, and we left. This was a terrible birthday evening for my family. Everyone behaved as if they were excited to be assholes. I've never been to a skating rink that wouldn't eagerly tighten bearings for little skaters, and I've never been to a skating rink that had so few walkers available. I truly tried everything that I possibly could to make this experience work. Your employees and your policies made that impossible. read more

Was very racist. I went to the concession stand and was told the concession stand was closed. A Caucasian women walked up it was opened. I spent just as much money for my party as the next person. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I absolutely hate this place. For one, there is holes in the skating rink , and the workers are super rude. The transition for the music is horrible. They only have roller skates. They don't have any roller blades. There is like no one working. The people at the concession just sit there on there phone and ate. You don't even have WI-Fi there. read more

Yelp needs a NEGATIVE Star rating.... I only hope that no other parent falls victim to this Skate Center!! ITS HORRIBLE! Customer service is atrocious, rude at every turn! It's a very sad sight for me to see. I grew up at this skate center when Mr. and Mrs. Campbell owned it. It was the place to be!!! Now I'll never come back!!!! We waited in line at the concession for 15 minutes, once it was the lady's turn in front of me the girl at the counter said "Sorry we're closed" both of us explained we had been waiting and no one told us they would be closing for any issue. Her response was "Again I'm sorry but we're closed" I then went to the manager and he said " we have to get the pizza and drinks for the parties out you'll just have to wait" I paid to get in this dump.... I wasn't part of a party.. So because of that I'm low woman on the totem pole?? I was considering having my daughter's birthday party here.... Not now!!! DO NOT VISIT THIS SKATE CENTER!!!! read more

Took the kids there today and tried to buy pizza for them and the staff told me I had to wait because the party gets first dibs on the pizza to see if they wanted to purchase extra even tho I paid for my kids to skate just like the party people did so I felt like it was unfair and the manager and staff was rude. read more

WORST CUSTOME SERVICE EVER! We chose to have the private birthday party here for the Go-Karts. Big mistake! The people working here are rude and not kid friendly. They don't even provide a hostess to you for your party like other venues. We were 10 mins early with the majority of our birthday crew ready. They didn't pass out the skates or turn on the lights or music to the rink for the kids to skate first until about 15-20 mins past our party time. When the kids were in the Go-karts, the white guy supposedly controlling the time went over time and rushed everyone to the snack area to eat with 10 mins left. However, since they didn't start on time, he shouldn't have expected us to leave in 10 mins. But obviously with 30 kids and parents that was impossible. We were 10 mins past our scheduled time and they started rushing our guests after they delayed the start of our party. As we were singing happy birthday, the white chick with curly hair had the audacity to almost hit a child with her cart and a parent quickly put her in her place. The white chick with straight black hair threw away food and drinks that people had just fixed. They didn't let any kids cash in their tokens. A lot of parents were ready to go to war for their rude customer service and the way they were treating people. The guy who said he was the manager, was just as rude and didn't care to address any concerns which means he felt it was ok. Whoever is the owner of this establishment, needs to fire this whole staff. We could have easily paid for extra time, although they delayed our party. Please go to Dreamland in Tillman's corner. SUNSHINE ON HILLCREST IS NOT THE PLACE TO HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY. THEY HAVE NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ARE THE RUDEST STAFF EVER!!! read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. My wife and I wanted to take my daughter and 3 friends to skate for her birthday. When we got here, they told us we couldn't bring her cookie cake in. Ok. I understand "no outside food" policies. So we went in and went to the snack bar. No one was working it. We talked to one of the workers up front, who got someone to open the snack bar, but when we asked for pizza (which is on the menu), the worker said that they probably wouldn't have pizza tonight. Friday night with a rink full of teenagers they're not serving pizza, seriously? All they had were stale nachos and corn dogs. So, I ordered a pizza from a local restaurant, and went to get it while the kids skated. When I returned with the pizza, I told the kids to come out to eat it (since I couldn't bring it inside). The worker at the front (manager?) told my wife that if the kids came out, they would not be allowed back in! This place is awful, it smells foul, the food is awful, the workers are unfriendly and unhelpful, and we will NEVER be back. read more
