I've been wanting to write this review for almost a year, and I finally got around to it because I will never forget what Sunshine Veterinary Care did for my dog Sandy. When I adopted Sandy from the shelter, she was extremely sick. I took her to another clinic, and the doctor told me that she was so sick that she was probably going to die and that I should consider returning her to the shelter. I left that place heartbroken and devastated, but I knew I wasn't going to give up on Sandy. I started searching everywhere for another veterinarian, and it was so difficult to find one that could see her. Then I found Sunshine Veterinary Care. They didn't have any openings that day, but they made an exception and found a way to see Sandy. I will forever be grateful for that. Doctor Z told me Sandy had about a 50/50 chance of making it. He and his amazing staff did everything they could for her, and two days later, it felt like Sandy came back to life. Today, I'm incredibly grateful that I didn't give up on her and that I found Sunshine Veterinary Care. Doctor Z and his entire team treated Sandy with so much care, compassion, and dedication. Thank you, Sunshine Veterinary Care, for saving my girl and giving us more time together. I will always be grateful for everything you did for Sandy. Lily and Daisy have always had Dr. Z as their vet. Lily is now 10 years old and Daisy is 9. Following Dr. Z from clinic to clinic until he eventually opened his own practice has always been our way of showing how much we respect and trust him, not only for the way he practices medicine, but for the bedside manner and genuine kindness he has consistently shown both his human and furry patients. We drive from Temescal Valley for their appointments and are happy to do so! My dogs are my only family, and as they're aging, I'm extremely grateful to have someone like Dr. Z as their primary care veterinarian. As with any growing clinic, Dr. Z's availability can sometimes be limited, but he has built a wonderful team of VAs, RVTs, CSRs, and others around him. Top of mind, Destiny and Vanessa have been amazing during our technician appointments, as have many others on the team. I would be remiss to say every situation has been perfect, but things get busy, people go through things, and veterinary clinics in particular deal with incredibly emotional life-and-death situations. We are all human. A little compassion, understanding, and willingness to ask questions can go a long way, especially when it comes to the health of animals who rely on us to make the best decisions we can for their care. TLDR: I won't be bringing my dog back here. They dropped the ball on things that have been standard at other vets I've been to. I've brought my dog here twice, once for a wellness exam and the other for a vaccine. The first time I think I waited about 30 minutes since the vet was in surgery according to the front desk, which is fine, except it felt like our appointment was super rushed. He quickly looked at my pup and was about to end the visit before I asked if we could get labs done and ask him a few questions about my concerns. He didn't once ask me if I had any concerns, just said she looked good. I thought it was strange that he didn't suggest labs considering she was a new patient. My dog was 10 years old at the time, so labs should have been suggested considering she is a senior. Anyways, they ended up giving me a discount because of the wait. However I don't think that should have meant a discount in quality of care too? My biggest gripe is the lack of communication. Every vet I've taken my dog to has given me an update when labs come back (typically through a message in the online portal), even if they're all good, and the labs are quickly uploaded onto the online portal so I can see it. Sunshine vet has an online portal that they seem to not use. After waiting 2 weeks after getting my dogs labs done, I hadn't heard from the doctor so I had to call and ask for the results. Additionally, the doctors notes were not uploaded or given to me, so I called for that a few months after the visit and although it had been months, they did not have the notes on hand. I ended up having to ask again a few days later before they sent them to me. That also does not give me confidence in them since they don't have their patient's records readily available. Another huge drawback is that they charge a tech fee for shots. I space out my dogs shots so it's completely unreasonable for me to pay an additional $20(? can't remember the exact fee but it was somewhere around there) every time I take her in for a shot. Overall, a strange experience that did not make me feel comfortable. I expect good communication and documents to be accessible at the bare minimum. read more

I'll never bring my dogs back or recommend this place! I brought my new puppy in for a health certificate, as I was moving states. I suspected she had a UTI, so they did a urinalysis. The vet tech confirmed she had a UTI, gave us antibiotics. We didn't get the health certificate to fly. We made another appointment a week later. The vet tech ran another urinalysis and said she was clear to fly. I filled out the information about my flight. The vet tech messed up the health certificate 4 times! I had to call the clinic twice to correct the information. The 4th time I went in person and there were still mistakes on the health certificate. I haven't seen the actual vet at any point. I fly my puppy up the next week. 2 days later, I realize she still has symptoms of the UTI. I took her in to the vet and they ran another urinalysis, ultrasound and x-ray. She still had the UTI, plus protein in her urine. She had urine crystals present. The vet recommended antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and prescription food for the UTI. She had blood work done because the UTI isn't responding to the antibiotics. I'm taking her in next week for a urine culture. So far, I've taken my puppy back to the vet 3 times after Sunshine Veterinary Care. All of the visits have been for the same issue. Sunshine Veterinary Care cleared my puppy to fly when she was still sick! That is disgusting! If my puppy died on the flight I would've sued Sunshine Veterinary Care for their negligence! Sunshine Veterinary Care bills totaled over $800, for 2 visits. Additionally, the vet visits in the new state are over $1,110 in one month because of Sunshine Veterinary Care's negligence! read more

We bought our puppy who already had 3 DHPP shots within the correct time span and only needed the one year booster and brought all the paperwork showing that. They had a miscommunication where the veterinarian did not know that our pup already that that series completed until the one year booster because of lack of communication with the front staff who had our papers. They gave him an additional 4th shot, charged us for it and all, and acted like it was no big deal! We only realized he got that totally unnecessary vaccine during the billing and when we called them out on it, all they said was something along the lines of "don't worry he won't die from it" No apologies for their own mistake, that WE and our pup had to pay for. read more

We are so relieved to find a veterinary clinic we are happy with! This place was so clean. The vet and staff here were so sweet and kind to our 2 dogs. The receptionist even gave them treats before and after their appointments. Our dogs are not easy to deal with. One has high anxiety while the other is scared of new people. To our surprise, this was not a struggle for the vet and nurse at all. They managed both dogs so quickly and calmly. Although our dogs were scared, they were quiet and cooperative for the most part. We have had negative experiences in the past where vets have been aggressive or rough and the dogs come home traumatized for days. Not this time! The dogs were happy to be home and return to their normal routines. The vet was very informative and gave his expert opinion without making us feel pressured into making any purchases or future appointments. He seems to genuinely care and wants the best for our pets. If I could give this place less than 1 star I would. I brought my dog for a nail trim/anal expression/ear cleaning. They chopped his nails off so close that he was bleeding profusely all over my arm when the technician handed him back to me. Then the technician tried to lie, telling me it was because of his dew claws when it was so obviously his two center nails on BOTH back feet. No apology, no sense of empathy. The staff there were very nice! And because I waited a little long they waived the checkup fee.

I usually take my dog, Bella to another vet, however I decided to give this clinic a try because it is closer to me. Also, I wanted to get a second opinion regarding my dog's recent diagnosis with Cushing's Disease. Bella never had any major health issues while growing up, but now that she is older (15 years old - super senior!) she is more prone to health issues. The clinic has ample parking in the plaza right next to Delicious Food Corner. The receptionist area is very spacious, modern, and new! The receptionist, Krystal was warm and inviting. She checked me in with ease and walked me into the room. Bella was curious and explored a bit, so I knew the clinic was a good sign! I met Dr. Liao and vet tech Ashley. Dr. Liao is awesome, personable, and super friendly! He did a general examination with her Cushing's, skin & coat, and followed up with her monthly Cytopoint injections. I updated him to speed regarding her past history and blood work from her other vet and dermatologist. Dr. Liao is very knowledgeable in the field. He explained more in depth regarding her health and what other methods I can do to help make her feel more comfortable. Dr. Liao also created a wellness supplement company called Wellnergy Pets. Wellnergy Pets has variety of products to help with pets' skin & coat, joints, anxiety, allergies, and itchy dry skin! Name the issue and he probably has the cure! He is opening a pet boarding soon too! What can't this vet not do?! You can tell he has so much patience, dedication and compassion for his patients. Dr. Z is really nice and very knowledgeable about dogs and cats. I took my cat here first for her infected ear and Dr. Z thoroughly explained what the issue could be. After applying medication, her ear is fully healed and there are no problems months after. My dog had a tumor and a rock in her stomach recently and he was able to perform a successful surgery. He explained everything very thoroughly before the procedure and guided us through the post-surgery care. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a fantastic vet! read more

It's saddens me to write this review. Seriously. First, to clear up a bit of confusion. Dr. Zonram Liao is sometimes referred to as Dr. Z, and sometimes Dr. Liao. He is the only vet at the practice. Now, to the issue at hand: If you look through my other reviews will you'll see that I've reviewed many businesses across the country, including a number of vet practices and boarding. I have moved an inordinate number of times, and finding a new vet (and hairstylist and nail technician and doctors) is a giant pain... I usually use Yelp to help me to choose. Originally came to Sunshine after seeing all the great reviews. The doctor is very nice, I thought the prices were reasonable, and everybody seemed very professional. My dog was in need of an allergy shot - which he needs approximately every six weeks. We had seen a vet in Arizona six weeks prior, but had to make a new client appointment so the vet could look at the dog and give him the next shot. While Hubby and I were there, we asked if additional shots would need appointments or if we could just come in and see a tech. We were told that we could just see a tech, but that we should call first to let them know that we're coming. It has been six weeks, the dog was itchy, so I called... Every other place I have ever gone to, which includes multiple practices in AZ, TX, and Northern CA, we have NEVER been charged a fee for the "tech appointment." Only for the shot. (Which is weight-based, and over $80 by itself.) However, Sunshine charges a $35 tech fee. It literally took me more time to pay than the appointment took. They take the dog back give him the shot and bring him back out. That's it. 30 seconds. For $35. Per the receptionist's recommendation, I called in after office hours to speak to the vet directly, to see if I could just get the shot from them and give it to the dog myself and whether I was charged properly. They won't sell me the medication. As far as the charge, it was correct. He started to give me the whole, "It's for the tech's time" song and dance. So I guess the $80 shots actually cost over $115. Every six weeks. Now I have to find yet another vet. This is stupid. read more

I came here after I saw they were new and had good reviews so figured I'd give them a shot. The veterinarian was very nice, very gentle with my dog and very loving. He heard my complaints and automatically stated we needed blood work , xray and urine collection which I already knew they would want. I was expecting to pay over 1k but it was a little under including doctor visit of $65. I ended up finding out my dog had two masses and he even went about doing extra test without charging me. I spent $990 but included xray , extensive lab work , catheter to catch urine , iv fluids , iv meds , rx meds , consult and doctor visit. Maybe I could have found it cheaper somewhere else but I didn't have time and tbh he was so nice. The place is clean and the way he presented the information to me was very direct and gentle. I could see he was broken by the news too and I could feel his sincerity. I'm a healthcare worker and I know how this goes and I really felt like he cared. I would recommend him and I would bring my other dogs back if I ever needed them to be seen. The clinic is clean , staff is kind and tbh if maybe I would have asked to negotiate the price or lower it I think he would have. He's not in it for the money , he's in it because he has a passion. And we need more vets like that. One thing I would recommend is following up on your patients. My old vet would call the day after to see how my dogs were doing and I appreciate that.
