I would rate this place a zero, but cannot. We had one of their friendly rats it mice visit us. I used place liked this when we rented by the hour. Just remember, the owner also owns the DQ in Gilman. Wonder if the DQ is housing rats and mice and the droppings are around your food... read more

It is time for me to go back to Illinois for my high school reunion but I will not be staying here. Two years ago, over Memorial Day weekend, I stayed in a room on the 2nd floor with no elevator. There was someone in the next room crying and moaning all the time like a child with developmental or emotional issues or a woman in labor. One morning I went for breakfast and the UNATTENDED breakfast area was terrible. A previous guest had put syrup on a waffle and then placed it into the waffle maker. I was single but a 2nd bed (usually not needed except to place clothes) was missing. There was a huge area in the room with no furniture! A family lives in this hotel and takes up half of the first floor so don't try to get a room on the 1st floor. Disappointing to say the least. read more

This is a fine example of a modest-sized motel in small town America offering clean rooms, friendly enough service, and a willingness to summon the Police. We had no interest in the so-called "keg stands" or late night drunken wrestling, so it was nice to learn that the staff summoned the local Police to shut down the late night noise coming from another guests' room.[1] The room was $70/night, plus tax, so not the cheapest motel. Then again, I'm not sure that there's another place to stay in this super small town. Footnote: [1] These guests just so happened to be our friends. Super 8 is not the upscale lodging choice but often a very practical one. When traveling to or from a destination and the need is a clean, safe place to spend the night this motel in Gilman fits the bill. The room had a Queen size bed and was non-smoking. The property was a little on the older side so I always worry there will be tell tale stale smoke smells but not the case here. The bathroom was clean and the shower hot and felt great after a long day in the car..they had the standard soap, shampoo and conditioner -nice not to have to unpack my own -just to pack it back up in the morning! The TV and air conditioning worked fine. I think out the door taxes and all with the AARP discount we spent $55. Really unbelievable right? Well , I'm not done. We left just after sunrise with coffee in hand, however I was obviously not fully awake as about 2 hours down the road I went looking for my travel pillow and it was no where to be found. We realized I had likely forgotten it and left it on the bed ( hate that!) I was very bummed out as it was a very comfy pillow I had gotten at a store that closed down so I knew I'd probably not be able to replace it. It was nap size, had a fuzzy zip off lining...anyway I really found it perfect to elevate my head on top of my regular pillow. I called Super 8 at that location and sure enough they had found it. I wanted to go back for it but that wasn't an option so the lady ( who had checked us out that morning ) was so gracious--she offered to mail it to our home. I asked if she could tack the postage on to our bill and she couldn't but said she'd send it and I could just mail her a check for the postage when I got home. Sure enough, my pillow got home before I did and I sent her a check and thank you note but isn't it awesome there are still people in the world like this! My friend and I rolled in late and they had a room for us. It was clean, comfortable, and very quiet on the inside. The only problem is the nearby train tracks, and for some reason the trains feel a need to blow the whistle at all hours of the night. So I woke up a few times from that, but this place is so well built I didn't feel or hear the rumble of the train going by, just those initial blasts. The staff was very friendly and helpful to us and other guests. There were absolutely no incidents all night and the location did not feel in the least unsafe or lower class. I can only speak for my own experience, not the other poor reviews here, but I would definitely return and recommend it to others. read more

Budget friendly hotel. Stayed in room #113. Free WiFi, flat panel tv, with lots of channels including several HBO channels. Mini-fridge, microwave, hairdryer, pet friendly with a fee, self service laundry, non-smoking hotel, (you can smoke outside, 15 feet away from entrance). The king size bed was very comfortable, I slept well. Room smelled clean, carpet was clean, and seemed freshly vacuumed. Microwave, and mini-fridge were clean. Small bathroom, linens were clean, but only 2 towels for 2 people. Front desk staff was nice, she brought us extra towels, and pillows to our room. A/C looked new, and was quiet, and worked great. Breakfast area was nice, basic breakfast choices of cereal, yogurt, bread, and pastries, coffee and juice. There is a McDonald's, Burger King, and Monical's Pizza delivers. Hotel is near train tracks, lots of trains coming through at all times of the day and night. I love trains, so for me, it wasn't an issue. My only issues with my stay were the couch was stained, and desperately needed to be cleaned, and vacuumed under cushion, and the desk chair needs to be thrown out, or repaired. The back security entrance is not functioning, anyone could just walk on inside. Quiet night, enjoyed my stay. I would definitely return when in the area. read more

I think the cleanest hotel I've been too (and I been to plenty!) the cleaning staff is amazing too, very friendly people. Where or where can the staff be? Oh where oh where can they be? Waited for a half hour along with a group of others and she finally shows up with an attitude. Sorry for disturbing you but aren't you supposed to be at the desk? Placed on the second floor because there were no rooms on the first floor hum? Only four cars in the lot hum? Wouldn't be so bad if there was an elevator but NO ELEVATOR. Thanks I love having to carry up my suitcases with arthritis. You know it's funny you can't get a room on the first floor but you can tailgate on an open bbq grill right next to the building and by the gas tank of the pick-up truck of the "grill" master. Who by the way gets to keep his easy light pre fuel charcoal in the ground right next to the building. The room was somewhat clean besides the abandoned water bottle under the bed, the filthy outside of the refrigerator, the dead bug in the bathroom and man who was preparing the food coughing all over without covering his mouth. However the bathroom was so small there was barely enough room for both me and the bug. You can't close the door and sit at the same time. Recommendations to the owner invest in an elevator and staff that work. Learn how to measure distance and you will find your smoking area in back is no more than six feet from the broken security door. You may want to fix that as well. read more

The staff is rude and intrusive. We asked for a rollout bed the first night and they brought it the following morning, ignoring the do not disturb sign. I work nights and needed to sleep in. Housekeeping also did not leave when we asked them to, as they were already unwelcome. My aunt was in another room with her dogs and she left her number with the manager in case the dogs got loud. When we called about the rollout bed they said they didn't have any and that they had "140" complaints about the dogs. To add to the lie they said they had called my aunt which was untrue. The majority of the staff barely speaks English which is probably not a good way to run a business. read more

Various members of my family, and myself, have stayed at this motel twice a year for many years. It has continually gone downhill and has now hit bottom. I just got off the phone with my 85 year-old mother who spent last weekend at this motel, checking in Friday and checking out today. When she awoke Saturday morning she discovered itchy red bumps all over her arms, neck and head which she thought was perhaps an allergic reaction to something she'd eaten. The next morning she discovered many more now on her legs and feet. A trip to urgent care revealed she was COVERED WITH BED BUG BITES!!! She subsequently found two, captured them in a tissue and confronted the manager with the evidence. The mgr. swore there had been no previous complaints. However, that severe of an infestation did not occur over night. The motel refunded the cost of the room. Now that my mother has returned home she can not bring her luggage and clothing indoors. The clothes must be bagged in plastic outside and taken to a commercial laundry. The several pieces of luggage will have to be thrown out.. There are far better and cleaner lodgings in the local area. read more

This place was called home to me for two weeks! I went to the motel 6 first thought it was better and more convenient i was so wrong. Walked into this place and the manager was so nice! He gave me a better rate because i was staying longer which was so nice of him. His customer service was excellent. Housekeeping could of been a little better but I'm giving them five stars because of him being very accommodating towards my stay. Even when i didn't get housekeeping done they always made sure to ask me later during the day which was nice. The two employees that did the housekeeping where a older persons a lady and a man they where really friendly and always made sure i has everything i need. I took one star off because the breakfast could of been a little better but it wasn't a big deal to me just thought that they could of had some waffles and eggs. They just have cereal coffee and some bagels but it's a small town so maybe they don't get much traffic. I will definitely rebook but heads up if you want that discounted rate talk to the manager only he can give you specials rates. read more

Did not call the desk because we needed to get some sleep anyway. Basic breakfast with good quality offerings. Last night i stayed in room 115. The door to the bathroom can't close because the toilet is in the way. Thankfully i was by myself for this stay. Then i tried turning off the light above the sink and the switch broke. Lovely. When i got into bed and all of the pillows smelled like sweaty men. Disgusting. I will not stay here again. read more

This looked to be a newer hotel. Coming across 24 heading east, stop here for the last night on our trip. Just a bit further I was ask to go, wished I had stopped earlier. The bathroom was so small I didn't even get a shower. I usually do that at night, since I was traveling with my father, to give him the bathroom in the morning. He did state that I didn't get my shower. I just simply replied we will get to my home tomorrow and then I will take one. This motel is used by quite a few trucker - which must smoke ALOT. We had a non smoking room and I could smell the smoke. They had a fan going in the hall on the second floor. I said something to the front desk personnel about the smoke and the fan. They believe the fan is HELPING - all it does it move the smoke ALL around. They need to put a fan in the outer wall to put the smoke out of the building and block of the smoking room from the non-smoking room. The breakfast room was nothing special, had the smallest meal for breakfast on my trip because it just didn't appeal to me - but it was clean. My father didn't think is smelled too bad....I believe the older he gets he gets more tolerate with things! There were a few truckers outside - that were VERY friendly - that suggested the diner across the street. They do know where to eat. The food was great and reasonably priced. read more

Totally wanted to give this hotel 5 stars. The day manager was awesome. Friendly and accommodating check in was hassle-free and my room was clean, warm and inviting. But heres the rub, when I was looking for a place to stay in Gilman, IL let me tell you, there are few choices, this hotel says Relax in our hot tub. I specifically chose this hotel for that particular amenity. I have a bad back and thought it would be good therapy. When I checked in I was assured it was open for business. When I went out for dinner and came back... I got the old switcheroo. Big sign on door...out of order!!!! So that is why I can NOT, in good conscious, recommend this place to anyone. EVER!
