We were in town for a memorial service and this hotel was comfortable and clean. Yes, the decor is a bit dated, but far better than other older hotels I've stayed in. They've updated some important things; there are charging outlets on the nightstand and Keurig coffee makers in the room. I liked that they use refillable bottles for shampoo, etc rather than the small disposable containers. I did not like the layout of the bathroom which was even less short-person friendly than a typical hotel. Seriously...I had to take a roll of TP and put it on the toilet tank because the holders were out of reach....and forget about trying to adjust the shower head...I would have needed a step stool for sure....at least it was set at an OK angle and setting. Staff were all very nice and friendly. We enjoyed the cooked to order breakfast which was not included but priced very reasonably. The yogurt bowl was around $5.50 and was delicious and attractively presented. Honestly I was expecting a blob of yogurt with some granola...this was much nicer and tastier. Coffee and juice are complimentary. The hot cocoa bar in the lobby was lovely and we really enjoyed all the holiday decorations. read more

This is a decent Hilton in desperate need of a refresh. Everything about it feels old but we were comfortable for the night. Pool is closed summer 2025. The little bar area is nice. We paid for the hotel breakfast (shoutout to Reggie who made us pancakes after the waffle machine broke!)...but there is a Dunkin right across the street. If you're looking for Hilton luxury you won't find it here but its perfectly nice for a night or two. read more

Considering the price that I paid, I would give the hotel an 8 out of 10 for my overnight stay.The room included a CLEAN microwave, refrigerator and Keurig. The rug, comforters, sheets, bathroom, remote control, desk, glass table, and mirrors were all CLEAN! The staff was very friendly, welcoming and pro-active. When I checked in the front desk agent explained that the breakfast is made-to-order and is not complimentary. I had arrived at 7pm, the restaurant would be open for "only a couple more hours but the bar is open!" There was plenty of comfortable space in the lobby that could be used for a larger group to meet or to play games. I had been unable to check in online using the app. I had been able to choose a room, though. I had to provide ID with a credit card at the front desk. The front desk person did not wear a mask. The only reason I mention this is because Hilton promotes on their website that you can check in online for a completely online experience. Also, the Hilton website states that everyone, all their employees, in their public spaces wheres masks. They no longer do. When I was checked in, I was given the room that I had chosen online. I had 2 full-size beds( not queen size). The room was only mostly clean, though. The fan in the bathroom had all kinds of fuzz in it. It was very loud and rumbled badly. The air system could use some cleaning, as well. The beds were very comfortable. However, each bed had 3 pillows instead of 4. The pillows were also very comfortable. I slept better here than I did at home! I do have a Service Dog who accompanies me. She was very interested in under one bed. There were a few small old pieces of dog food there. read more

We stayed here Christmas evening on our way to Michigan for the holidays. Room 204 was absolutely nasty the furniture was ragged and the carpet was falling apart. Very poor customer service. The onsite manager, Michele Blanchette, is very unprofessional and rude. I contacted the hotel in reference to my digital key not working properly. I asked the lady on the phone, Michele Blanchette, for more information in reference to my issue. She began yelling at me, before I could ask her to calm down and just cancel my reservation she slammed the phone down in my ear. I called back again and asked the nice young lady, Laura, if she would please cancel my reservation and I would find another place to stay. I also asked for the managers information so I could report Michelle for her very poor attitude and nasty behavior. This is unacceptable for a Hilton. Had my daughter's sweet 16 birthday there, just 4 of us, upon arrival, noticed the pool out of order. Asked for a discount, fd clerk said $25, but we'd need to go through the site/3rd party it was made through. Fine, np, they said, after speaking to hotel, hotel said no discount! I am disappointed in the other reviews because I have had such great stays here!! I stay here every month about 3-4 nights as I travel to visit family. The only reason it doesn't get a 5 is because of the location...away from everything-although there is a nice Mexican restaurant next door! ;-) The breakfast is better than any other and it's included in the rate, rooms are clean, servers at breakfast, dinner, bartenders are all very friendly! (Especially Diamond, at breakfast! She always remembers my husband and I each visit, which is very nice and welcoming.) I truly have nothing bad to say-this hotel is so welcoming that people actually hang out in the lobby and talk and I've met some very nice people from all over the U.S.! First off, it pains me to give this hotel one star. Secondly, PLEASE do yourself a favor and read this review, it may be long but it could save you a lot of trouble. For my son's fifth birthday I asked him what he wanted to do, he replied "stay in a fancy hotel and go swimming." Not that the Hilton Garden Inn is "fancy" but to a 5 year old?? It still cost $105 for a one night stay even with advance purchase...anyway. We get there and it's covered with drunk, and I don't mean fun woo hoo drunken people, I mean falling over, red eyed, sweaty, obnoxious drunken people. I specifically asked not to be placed in a room near these party animals (traveling with my two young children) and was met with attitude, and then a room change...apparently they were going to be my neighbors for the night. OK, not much wrong there... Dinner: ONE server for the restaurant AND bar, FAIL! There was a wedding going on that night as well and guests were pouring into the restaurant ordering alcohol and it took over 30 minutes to order and another 45 to get our food. Back in the room, my son starts opening his gifts, out of the corner of my eye I see my daughter playing with what I assumed was something from one of my son's gifts. Then I see her struggling to put it down, I immediately go see what it was and it was a glue mouse trap, a DIRTY glue mouse trap. It was covered in sticky glue, hair, peanut butter and a still unidentified white substance. My mother vomited, she said Kyla had it in her mouth. I don't even know where to go from here, but I can tell you this...aside from the Front Desk Manager, who not only admitted fault and apologized about a million times, the rest of the Hilton establishment has been nothing more than a disgrace! I called Hilton worldwide after my daughter's doctor was concerned what substance was on the trap and they refused to tell me anything other than peanut butter. We had to call poison control, my daughter's doctor sent her to the hospital for blood tests (she, my daughter, is 21 months old). She had to undergo a series of tests, one which was particularly upsetting was a bleed test where they literally cut her then waited to see how long it took for her blood to clot. It took over 3 minutes, felt like a hundred, she didn't know what was going on and why daddy wouldn't make it stop. Hilton worldwide responded to me that they made a file for me and someone would be in contact within 3 days...what?? The hotel management checked in on my daughter (OH I should also state that our NYE was totally ruined because we were at the doctor, on the phone with poison control then at the hospital due to the mouse trap) and after I got all the results back I asked how they would like to pay for the medical fees associated with our stay and if they had any sort of compensation in mind for everything that happened, on top or ruining my son's fifth birthday and our NYE. I was met with "an adjuster will contact you on the medical bills" and that they are sending us a one night stay at a Hilton Garden Inn, but that it will take 8 weeks to receive... I am so mad, I have actually never been more upset with a company, let alone one with a reputation such as the Hilton's. My husband and I were so unbelievably stressed and worried about our daughter coupled with her other medical conditions, munching on dirty rat traps is dangerous!! It took 3 days for us to clear it all up, I missed work and so did my husband to take Kyla to the doctor and hospital. I researched Hilton's values and mission statement and sent them an email on how it's all bullshit and they failed on each count. I am more than angry that my family is being treated like something they can just sweep under the rug, with a smile. I think the front desk manager truly feels bad but everyone else has been condescending and downright rude (with a smile...i think that's their true mission). Other than the rat trap the room was a filthy mess. The bed was lumpy, I mean literally you could see nothing but lumps, the bathtub was black on the bottom, the walls had stains on them and it just looked like a cheap, dirty, hotel with "Hilton" slapped on the front. Shame on you, Hilton, for trying to fool people with your fancy names, website, and self-degrading celebrity family members. Shame on you for not trying to make things right. My biggest gripe is charging business people like myself for breakfast. I can understand on the weekend for visitors who may never come back to stay, but this is my 3rd business trip to Chicago area in the last few months and am always looking for a regular place to stay. Despite the other reviews here, I found this facility to be quite good! The staff was very friendly, and while I was admittedly here several times during the week (not on the weekend as some of the other [poor] reviews), it was clean, well-kept and enjoyable. The food here isn't great, but I don't think people go to Hilton Gardens for the food. Not many other food options close, although there is a pretty good Mexican place in the strip mall right next to the property. All in all, this was average to above for me! read more

As Hilton is a chain and there seems to be Hilton Garden Inns everywhere, you would think it would be consistent. Unfortunately it's not. When you get right down to it, a lot of your experience depends on location. This HIlton Garden is located in what was a cornfield south of Kankakee five years ago. There's nothing different about it except the staff and the clientele. The people that stay in this hotel on weekends look like strays from a buffalo herd, and the rooms are left in horrible shape. We're talking no tell - motel type situations where people just stay for a couple of hours and leave sexual oozings all over the bed. Both my business companion and I had to request different rooms on Sunday because some jerks left jizz and juice on the bed and checked out early. Bad enough to sleep in your own wet spots but someone elses? Forget it. But once the Kankakee scum leave, it's not too bad. Although they had a habit of deactivating my room key on a daily basis, they were pretty decent people. For example, I like a light breakfast, I generally have a toasted muffin and yogurt or fruit. Rather than charge me the full amount for the continental breakfast buffet, they just charged me a few bucks for what I ate. Rooms were kept reasonably clean once the local dirtbags quit staying there. Although I can't hold the Hilton chain responsible for the actions of locals, it's their very presence that brought this place down to two stars. read more

Worst Hilton Garden Inn I've ever stayed at by far. I've stayed at HGI's all around the country for the past couple years, and my experience has always been good-to-excellent. Not at this place. Recent stay experiences: 1. When I initially called to book a reservation, the young lady at the desk told me they were booked for the last day I wanted. When I asked her what I should do, she advised me to go ahead and book Sun-Thurs, and insisted that as long as I stop by on Wed or so and tell them I want to extend to Friday, given that I'm a Hilton Honors member, she was certain they'd be able to extend me. Not only did this not happen (I had to leave), but on 3 different occasions people who said they were going to get back to me -- front desk girl, 2 managers -- never got back to me. Not being able to squeeze me in for another night is acceptable, not getting back to me when you say you are going to is NOT. Very unprofessional. They offered me a $25 Wal-Mart gift card which definitely does not make up for the inconvenience I was caused. 2. Room-service quality erratic. The first night I got the salmon it was fantastic, so I ordered it again the 2nd night -- new cook apparently -- it was terrible, looked liked it had been thrown onto the plate, no garnishings, sauce, nothing -- terrible. Also they forgot the vegetables that are supposed to come with it. They did later bring me up the garnishings and vegetables, and threw in a free dessert, but it was too late, I had long since finished. (And I don't eat dessert anyway). 3. I had a package delivered to me here. It arrived on Thursday after I checked-out. I called on Friday to let them know that I'd come by to pick it up, the girl at the front desk said she sent it back to the sender. I asked her why she didn't contact me, she said she didn't have my number (how could she not get my # through the Hilton Honors program?)? Then I asked why she didn't email me, she said yes she did have my email address on file but she didn't think to email me. This fiasco caused me a LOT of trouble. The people at the front desk at this place are definitely NOT the sharpest tools in the shed. The only thing good about this place is the breakfast staff. My fiancee and I stayed one night on August 21, 2010, as we were spending Saturday and Sunday at Haight Quarry to become PADI Scuba certified. Although the hotel was nice, clean and had friendly staff and a great breakfast, I cannot give it a high rating because when we returned home I discovered I had been eaten alive by bedbugs. My legs and torso were covered in bites that swelled up and became itchy, sore and extremely uncomfortable. When I called the hotel directly, the receptionist took my information and said she would speak with her manager. I never received the courtesy of a return call. My fiancee is a Hilton Honors and Gold VIP member. He wrote an email to Hilton with attached photos of my legs, covered in bites, and has not received the courtesy of a reply. We had to wash everything in very hot water at home, pay $40 to have our comforter professionally washed in an industrial sized machine, and I've been having to take antihistamines every day, which make me drowsy, and the pain and sleepiness are interfering with my work and every day activities. We have yet to determine if we managed to come home without any followers! It will probably take a few weeks before we can absolutely be sure. It is strange that I was the only one affected, but that is what happened. Therefore, I write this review as a warning to others. Check every hotel bed very carefully for signs of bugs and notify the staff immediately and change rooms. This hotel, especially. And, don't expect any response - not even an apology, if anything happens. read more

What a great stay! This was our first stay at a Hilton Garden Inn and we were very pleased with the hotel and definitely with the staff. The night we checked in, Zack (special) was extremely helpful in offering and explaining the differences between rooms and the guest services available. We also appreciate the schedule for opening the fitness room and the pool to both be open to guests from 5am-11pm. That makes both much easier to fit into a busy travel schedule. Just stayed there for a week. UNCLEAN Staff was 5 star, but housekeeping was 1 star. Pros: The desk staff and the breakfast servers are very friendly. They always greeted us and were very friendly. The breakfast was great, and the ladies serving made sure everything was perfect. I think $11 is a little pricey for some eggs and toast. Cons: When I arrived I threw the sheets back so inspect the bed for cleanliness. I found several long black hairs in my bed. URRP! I called the front desk and they had housekeeping come up and change the bedding immediately, along with giving me a free dinner at their restaurant. So that was handled well. By the way I checked the bathroom as well. There were hairs in the sink, so that hadn't been cleaned. They also have the glasses with the little paper covers. REALLY! I think we have all seen enough YouTube video to know why you NEVER drink out of those. When have you ever seen the dirty glasses being taken for cleaning????? They have a card in the room that says the bedding is changed every three days and when you checkout. Well we have proven the checkout thing to be false. I marked my sheet when it was put on in front of me. I stayed for 5 days and the bedding was never changed so that isn't happening either. Middle of the road hotel. Our room wasn't clean, but I have very high standards for cleanliness. Staff was friendly, though the bartender had to look up how to make a Cosmo, even tho it's on their small menu, and it came out mostly lime juice. Breakfast is $11 / person, which is ridiculous if all you want is oatmeal and fruit. The pool was fun, but crowded. Some kid wore muddy boots in there so the floor was ewwwww. Ok ok, so it's not just hotel, but in fact the only sit down restaurant for breakfast nearby, but $10.95 for breakfast is too much of a gamble. -Pillow was missing a pillow case when I initially got into the room. -Rooms are dated. Furniture, bathroom fixtures and common areas could all use a refresh. -Staff not so friendly. I didn't get that warm and inviting feeling. Minimal interaction. This was my first stay at a Hilton Garden Inn. I've been staying here while on business for the past month. The staff have been great. My room has been kept clean since I got here. My breakfasts have been paid for through the company I've been contracting for. So for free, you can't beat the breakfast here. Although if I had to pay $11 every morning for breakfast, I'd just go over to the gas station and get some Tornadoes. One problem I had was with the shower in the mornings. The water was usually cold and would sometimes warm up after awhile but usually went back to being cold. Another problem I had was when I would do laundry. The north dryer does not dry at all. I've had to lay my clothes out in my room in order to dry them. All in all a good stay. read more

Not only was money stolen from gifts that were given to them at the reception, but after coming home and receiving my credit card bill I was charged a $423.00 that wasn't even mine! I used to live in Kankakee County and I return there several times a year to visit. Hilton has always been my choice. I didn't have good luck this time, however. I should mention that the staff does a really good job. Both Aaron and Kyle at the front desk were VERY helpful. However, the first room I was given smelled very musty. I turned the a/c on high and hoped that this would help. It didn't. Aaron moved me to another room....which was a little better but still smelled VERY musty. :( I've never had this problem before at the Hilton. Also, when I went to bed at night, I closed the bathroom door....and opening that door in the morning ....made it smell like a gas station public restroom. I highly recommend BLEACH cleaner in the bathrooms on the floors and shower. I think it would help to keep it more sanitary. Sorry, Hilton....... read more

We had our wedding reception at the Hilton Garden Inn and Marsha and Shelly did a great job making sure everything was perfect! They were very accommodating and thorough. The prices were very reasonable for what we got. The food was outstanding, and the rooms were very nice and clean. Our guests seemed very happy with their stays as well, they loved that there was a bar on site and a breakfast buffet available for a reasonable charge, and the 24 hour Walmart next door was very convenient for everyone. I'm not sure why this hotel got low ratings in the past, but we had a very nice stay last weekend. Loved the fireplace in the lobby, the fruit infused water and warm cookies! Our rooms were clean, rest rooms were clean, beds comfortable although the memory foam mattress sure got warm. Their staff was very pleasant and helpful. Maintenance responded within 5 minutes of our call when a lightbulb went out. We ate at their bar and grill because of the raging blizzard outside and were happily surprised! Burgers and soup were great, pasta sauce was a little floury, but overall we would eat there again. We will definitely stay at the Kankakee Garden Inn again. read more

Was down here for Bears training camp. Practice got done at 1130 and we got to hotel at 1245. Check in isn't till 3. My father has disability's and wasn't feeling well, the staff was able to get the room cleaned fast and got us in at 2. We were extremely happy about that. Staff at the desk was great. Needed more coffee and creamer, Shannon at the front desk was extremely accommodating and got us everything we needed. She even chatted with us for a bit. So nice ! It's nice when things aren't going your way and there staff is there to help out. Hilton Garden Inn should be happy they have a great staff and Shannon helped us out a lot. We stayed here because we were attending an event here from out of town and thought it would be convenient to. When looking for directions using yelp I discovered the previous reviews. I was terrified! By the time I was done writing all the horrible reviews to my boyfriend we had arrived. We went in anyways and I'm glad we did. Our room was clean and the convention center was very nice. The staff was amazing, helpful and friendly. Nice comfortable, clean bed. This morning we had a great breakfast prepared by the chef to order. Overall great experience and would recommend to anyone. Maybe it has been under new ownership since the previous reviews. This hotel needs a little more concern over their guests welfare. I told the desk that my wife has to walk with a cane so, you think they would have put us closer to the wedding. not so! also, there were ants living in the space where the coffee and microwave were. they couldn't do anything about the ants while we were there but, they did knock one day off the bill! read more

Only complaint I had over all was breakfast was outrageously expensive. On one hand, the food was good, but $11 for a "buffet"? Never again. I asked the guy at the front desk why it wasn't free and he said it was all hilton garden inns. I've never stayed in one before but that seems strange to me. We stayed two nights with a group that had an event there and besides the breaksfast everything else was GREAT!! No idea what their regular rates are since we got a discounted deal with the group, but our rate seemed reasonable. The rooms were very clean, the front desk was very accommodating when I asked for non-feather pillows, the housekeeper that I bumped into coming back from the pool one morning offered to help me open my lock since my key wasn't working. Called down to the front desk and they sincerely apologized and brought up new ones for me. They said it might have gotten decoded or something with a cellphone?? The ballroom which is at the other end of the hotel was beautiful! I guess the whole hotel just recently went under some renovations recently. I guess thats why the rooms looked so clean LOL They had some kurig coffee machines with the individual little cups in the rooms which I really liked. But they don't have any coffee in the lobby out after breakfast which was also strange to me. My wife and I loved the lady working breakfast. Val I think her name was. Very personable!!! Likes: -pleasant interior -room was spacious. Liked the armchair and footrest -room had a microwave and a refrigerator -staff were friendly. -the pool and the whirlpool are nice. The small size of the pool and the 3-4 foot depth is good for small children. -I liked the orange infused water offered at the entrance. Dislikes: -two double beds instead of two queens make sleeping arrangements difficult for families. Even two small children were hard to fit on a double bed by the time I put pillows on either side to keep them from falling off. -no free breakfast. The breakfast buffet looked good, but at $11 for adults and $7 for children, that adds a lot to the price of the room for a family, compared to hotels that include breakfast. -saw some things housekeeping missed upon arrival. However, the next day, they were taken care of by the person who cleaned the room, though I hadn't said anything. -poor acoustics in the pool area. You have to shout to have a conversation. -the cookies provided were not as good as the cookies at other Hiltons I have stayed at. -all glasses were paper or plastic, which I didn't feel were safe to put into the microwave. However, there was no glassware, nor any alternate method for heating drinks or food. Lacking other options, when I did nuke one of the cups for 90 seconds, a brown spot formed on it. I would have really preferred to have some glassware available. -there is nothing special about the location. It's close to the highway, but a few miles from town and within walking distance only of places like Walmart, a Mexican restaurant and a Taco Bell. Overall, a pleasant enough stay, but not a place I'd rush to return to. read more
