I can't believe I forgot to review this place after our stay in late August. In my defense, we were…read morein the process of moving cross country. Originally we were going to stay in a Motel 6 in Des Moines due to pets and a tight budget. However, after arriving to possible drug deals in progress, we moved on to a Holiday Inn Express, which was booked but arranged for us to stay at another Holiday Inn Express in a neighboring town. The cost was reasonable for the quality of accommodations, and we were relieved they allowed our small travelling circus to stay when most non-Motel 6s have a 1 or 2 dog limit. We had a good night's rest in a safe, clean room and awoke to a decent continental breakfast. The only dark spot was when a bunch of drunken men went screaming down the hallway at some odd hour in the morning and upset our dogs, but it wasn't an ongoing problem so I can't hold that against the hotel. If you're travelling across country or intentionally visiting the area, this is a safe, clean pet friendly place to stay. As far as I can tell, once you're past Nebraska, Motel 6 is no longer a viable option.

We checked in late and when we got to our assigned room the beds were unmade, coffee was on the counter, so the room had obviously not been cleaned. We went back down to get another room and the woman was apologetic. She then assigned us a room on the first floor which was not ideal but since there was only one person in duty and it was after 10:30, we just went with it. The floor had not been vacuumed and we could hear the people outside as if they were right outside our window. They weren't being loud so it didn't feel right to say anything. The bathroom was clean and we just needed a few hours sleep before getting back on the road. At 3:30 AM, there was a knock and then a woman opened the door. It made my daughter scream and my husband and I were yelling that we were in the room. There was no apology just an "ok, ok I'm leaving." as she left. My daughter and I didn't get back to sleep until after 5:00 AM and then had to be up at 6:30. I called the front desk to let them know it wasn't ok that someone came in our room at that hour. The voice of the woman on the phone was the same as the woman who came in our room but she just said would check with the other staff. She did apologize. My husband went to talk with her before we checked out to see what had happened, and she said it was a new girl they were training and she was "auditing the rooms to see if they needed cleaning." The whole thing didn't make sense and she told my husband she would discount the room. When we checked out the discount was not on the room so my husband let the new front desk person know that we were to get a discount but that still paying 120 a night was too much when we weren't able to sleep. The story that the new person told the manager was a different story than the one we were told but the manager did say the rate would be taken down to the lowest one they could give. As of the time we left, they couldn't get the system to work to give the discount but were told we would get an emailed receipt for the lower rate. I appreciate the manager taking our sleepless night seriously and hopefully there will be new protocols for entering rooms in the middle of the night and for ensuring the rooms are clean. Overall, staying in a room that has stuff all over the floor then being woken up by someone coming in the room and then getting several stories of others being blamed makes for a terrible experience. We won't put this one on our twice annual route to and from IL.

We were on a road-trip and we just needed to stop to sleep and shower. Hotel doesn't really look anything like the pictures. Our room was soooo dirty and outdated. Random little bugs everywhere, horribly stained carpet, gross furniture, bed. I didn't want to touch anything. The carpet had all sorts of weird stains like dark stains and white stains. Made me super grossed out. I understand that it's just by a raceway and that this is probably where those people go and it makes sense that it's run down but it is not what I expected from reviews online or from pictures. It was gross!! And I don't usually have many hotels that I find gross. Haven't stayed in a "gross" hotel in years so that's saying something.

Clean, quiet and comfortable…read more Wyndham Rewards offered this hotel at a low rate, so I decided to give it a shot on a road trip. The entire hotel, including the room, was thoroughly clean. The room was very nice for a competitively-priced (even before discount) rate. A king-sized with plenty of pillows was quite comfortable. Even the shower was new and provided a refreshing start to the morning. For entertainment, the TV had well over 100 stations. I did not have enough time to go through and count them all. Everyone on staff here was very friendly too. I highly recommend this Days Inn.

Had it been my choice, I would not have stayed here, but I was at the mercy of someone else's trip planning. Let's begin with the outside appearance. According to the website photos, it appears to be well-maintained, with a garden out front. It is not. There is no garden, only empty flower beds with rocks in them. When you finally manage to open the front door with the full weight of your body thrown against it, you're greeted with an odor that cannot be described as anything other than a filthy, decaying building that nobody cares enough about to clean or maintain properly, with an underlying hint of mold and mildew. Speaking of disrepair, even the molding on the edges of the reception desk are peeling off, like you would see at a poorly-funded public school that hasn't been renovated since the '50s...maybe even longer. They boast an indoor pool, which is surrounded by carpeted area and is most likely to blame for the horrible smell that permeates every part of this hellish establishment. Both nights, my husband and I had the displeasure of staying within sight of the pool, on ground level. Both nights, we had to endure shouting and blatant disregard and disrespect by other guests (which I'm guessing are actually tenants) who don't seem to understand that voices echo, and carry, and disturb others who are trying to sleep at dark-thirty. The bathroom looked like something out of the opening scene to CSI. Bring your shower shoes. The bedspread was not something I wanted to sit on, even in jeans. Speaking of things that remind me of CSI, my neighbors (close friends) and I opened the doors that separate our rooms inside. There was not only a disgusting, mysterious substance on the inside-facing part of the door, but a razor blade cartridge on the floor in the space between. I really hate playing "Guess What THAT Is!" while in hotel rooms I'm paying hard-earned money for. Luckily, I WAS able to dissipate the stench in the room by plugging in my essential oil diffuser, but still--I shouldn't have to do that to remove odors from a room I'm paying nearly $80 a night for after taxes. Speaking of how much we paid per night...the name "Best Value" is a misnomer. We could've stayed at the Quality Inn, across the road, for less money, no fear of bugs, AND actually had a continental breakfast included. This particular hotel provides stale cold cereal that's been in the plastic dispensers for so long that the Froot Loops are beginning to fade; burnt coffee; grainy cream cheese; and bagels. Stay and eat at your own risk, but don't be surprised if you get zero sleep or go home with something you didn't arrive with, whether it be athlete's foot, food poisoning from spoiled cream cheese, or bugs. The sad part is, it looks like this place was well taken care of just a couple of years ago. It's amazing what can happen when an owner only cares about money rather than the comfort and satisfaction of their guests.

The pictures will show more than my words. I will say the person at the front desk was polite, and helpful, but that's where the good ended. The motel smelled like cigarette smoke, even in my non smoking room, which left me smelling like cigarettes. The hallways were dirty as well. My first room they assigned was not clean at all, the second room was better but not great either, still dirty but cleaner than the last. St that point I needed to just get to the wedding I was attending as a groomsmen, and I didn't want to play room roulette any more. Again the pictures of the room will show the state of the room. The "Continental" breakfast was best described all prepackaged items and cereal. It was a disgrace to call it a continental breakfast by the least. All in all, if you need a quick and cheap place to stay at and a decent bed, and your not going to spend a lot of time at the motel, then go ahead and book it. Also, if you don't mind people coming up to your car asking for change and or a ride then book it. I was very disappointed and have stayed at a few other econo lodges and this by far has to be the worst.
