I have a lot of family up in the Vallejo area and visit often for big parties (weddings, major birthdays, holiday parties, etc.). When I am up here, I always go to Bongga for my hair / makeup / special event needs. She did my hair and makeup for two recent weddings and I have her booked again for for when I visit in a few weeks for my grandma's 80th birthday party. When I am in the area (usually 3-4 times a year), I will always get a trim or a cut by Bongga. This past weekend, she gave me a fresh cut - kept my length (as I requested), but trimmed my dry ends and added layers in all of the perfect places to frame my face and give my hair some more movement and volume. I do not color my hair, but I have recommended her to family members who do color their hair and they have all been very happy with it. I am considering adding some color to my hair soon and she will be the first person I will go to with my coloring requests. I have also recommended her for hair and makeup to some of my friends for their special event needs. She is GREAT for weddings and bridal showers because she can create an amazing fresh and natural look. She works magic in bringing out a woman's natural beauty. Worst haircut experience I've ever had. First, she told me ahead of time the credit card machine was broken and to bring cash. I had $60 cash, enough for the $45 haircut and tip. I have long hair and didn't want too much taken off. She repeatedly tried to convince me to take more off, and I had to be really assertive to get what I wanted. She then said she was going to cut my hair dry. I objected, because my hair was wavy that day, and I was worried that it wouldn't lay straight for the cut. She insisted on cutting it dry and said she would wash it later. When my hair is wavy, it has product in it and it's a bit tangled. She was roughly pulling the comb through it and I had to tell her it hurt. She does not manage hair in a gentle manner. She began cutting and I've never felt so nervous during a haircut. She was not at all precise; it felt like she was moving fast and her style was frenetic, almost violent. I really wondered if it was going to turn out okay. I have long thick hair, so I figured she couldn't do too much damage. She then told me she was going to dry shampoo it. What?? I said no, I wanted it washed. She said it would cost an additional $10 because of the length. I told her that was not on the website and it's not a policy I've ever encountered. She insisted that it is typical practice. It honestly felt like she did not want to wash and style my hair bc it would take too long. I told her I didn't have enough cash to pay the new fee for washing it. This would not have been an issue if I could pay by credit card. I felt like I didn't have any option but to have her dry shampoo it. The cut itself was average. She doesn't know my hair or my preferences (understandable), and I didn't feel like she was listening to me. I had to tell her to texturize more in the back. I have long layers in the front and it looked like there was a big chunk on the side, so I had to ask her to thin out the chunk. I told her I didn't want layers above my chin and guess what? I have layers above my chin. This is the worst haircut I've ever had AND the worst experience I've had getting my hair cut. To her credit, she made the changes I asked for. When it was time to pay, I expected the cut to be less than the quoted $45 because my hair not washed. She gave me an illogical argument about it costing $45 because it was long hair. What?? I was told it was $45 for a wash and cut. When I got there, I was told it was $55 for long hair to be washed and cut. All I got was a haircut. How am I being charged $45? My major complaints: 1) she gave me a price that was not listed on the website. She should tell people ahead of time that long hair incurs an extra charge; 2) given I did not have that information, she should have washed my hair anyway. That's what you do if you are committed to good customer service; 3) she is pushy about her preferences and does not seem to put the customer's preferences first. You get what you're paying for; in fact, I think you get less than what you're paying for. What a disappointment. I will not be returning. read more
