We ordered a fu qi fei pian, mapo tofu, and a beef shank pancake/wrap. The fu qi fei pian was utterly delicious!!! It wasn't overly oily nor spicy, but the perfect balance of spicy, sour, and sweet. The peanuts were delightfully crunchy, and the tripe and beef shank were very well done as well. Definitely our favourite dish. The beef wrap came in a lovely flaky crust... but the entire execution was spoiled by the fact that the wrap came overloaded with excessive hoisin sauce. The beef taste was therefore completely masked, and all I could taste was the sickening sweetness and saltiness of the sauce. What a shame! Finally, the mapo tofu. At first taste, it was very good and tasty. However, you will notice immediately that it is quite salty! Okay to have with rice, but could definitely use some more tofu to balance out the extreme saltiness. The dishes are well done, but a bit too overpowering in flavour. The service is friendly, albeit slow. Still a good find in London!

There are approximately 5 - dumplings, potstickers, rice, noodles and soup. The dumplings and potstickers offer variations on their fillings (pork, beef, chicken, veg). But like many places with a succinct menu, they do what they offer well. Clearly homemade dough. I preferred the dumplings (steamed...small) to the potstickers (fried...large), and the soup over the noodles but all were good. The three sauces offered weren't soy based and varied in spice level from mild to a bit of a kick. Good value for money. I received 2 soups, noodles, 10 potstickers and 18 dumplings for $40. When I arrived the owner added another 10 potstickers and 10 dumplings to my bag for free as they were about to close. I froze the extras because they are very filling! Definitely give this place a try.

The roast duck was cooked ok, the eggplant pot was comforting, but sauce and flavor were not rich enough, but kids love the beef noodle dish. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable or unique. Service was pleasant, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere, but based on our experience, it was good rather than exceptional.

The fish with 1000-year-old egg congee was top notch; the fish was gently cooked, and the amt. of preserved egg was appropriate. The congee base was strong and appropriately thick without it being stiff. The corn and taro congee had a bit less flavor. The pea pod leaf vegetable was nicely stir-fried and retained a lot of heat. My reservation is usually that the veggie becomes too oily, but this time it seemed okay. The stir-fried beef with button mushrooms was top notch; the beef was tender, and the button mushrooms provided textural contrast to the beef. The beef tendon was also really soft, in a really nice way. The shrimp with egg rice noodle is always a classic, egg gently used as a sauce and the noodle with an appropriate bite to it. The place closes down (i.e. the patrons have to leave by 9p) at 9p, which makes for a bit of a rushed dinner, so beware.

I'm not familiar with this cheese they use a lot of, but it does have a nice complexity to it without too much grease. The dip though, it was just beautiful with how smokey and much umami it had with a light citric bite at the end. Garlic's Burger - 4/5 The only critique I had with this was with the bun, which was unfortunately rather dry / thick compared to the burger itself. Otherwise it works pretty well in terms of composition as the buttery goodness of the roll blends with the rather tender patty (despite their 3oz. sizing they were remarkably tender even without much pink at all). The side we got was their caeser (option for fries or soup alternative). Very creamy (and garlicky, as promised by the name). Hot and smokey fettucine - 5/5 It was nothing like I imagined it when I ordered it, but remarkably creative as it was rather far from typical italian that I've had. Technique wise it was top notch, which edged it closer to a thai or chinese dry noodle stir fry without any obvious sauce base (afaik just oil and spicy pepper). Very solid amount of heat as a good medium for the spicy-minded, which is surprising given that it's the only item on the menu marked spicy. Flavor-wise the chicken came out closer to what I'd imagine sausage to be at with how smokey it tasted, but with a nice aroma to it from browning the noodles and garlic.

The pizza, however, was the star of the show. It was genuinely excellent, topped with pesto, arugula, and ham. It was so good that I still miss it! By the time we were done waiting for the new grill top, we were starting to lose our appetite. If you're getting the all-you-can-eat option, watch out for that. It could mean you have more trouble finishing the second round of food. As with most a.y.c.e. options, you have to pay for what you don't finish, so some part of me wonders if this isn't some sort of sneaky strategy to make you full faster.
