The "manager" owner's wife came up to us after we were seated and was extremely nasty. Ask us what we are doing here, turning her lips and rolling her eyes stating that there is minimum to seat here. First off she has no idea what we were willing to spend. Overalls she found out that an employee did put us there and apologized, but it was too late. We were so disgusted with the customer service we left!!! We ended up finding this little nice bar near by that was playing all the games called superbar.

I know nothing about the scene in San Jose, but I'm betting it's the only biker rock and roll bar in the city, maybe even the only rock bar. But don't be intimidated by being a biker bar in a dark, warehouse area by the docks, it is a very friendly, chill place, where everyone seems to know each other and party together. Heavy metal seems to the main genre here, but one band was an 80s 90s pop cover band. I enjoyed 2 meals from the little but good quality kitchen, including the Papa's Loco, good bar food. I also splurged on the steak sandwich, it was good, but I'd probably just stick to a hamburger next time.

She recommended several of the dishes that we ended up trying, including the Bacalao and Manchego Croquetas (easily one of the best appetizers I've had in the last few years), as well as the ribs (amazingly sauced and fall-apart tender). She even told us about a few off-menu items, like the Big Boss Burger which I can't tell how big the patty was but it was huge and very well stuffed and cooked to perfection. Drink selection was prime. I had a mule which is my go-to but it tasted crisper than usual, so I asked and they told me they make the ginger beer for it in-house. Good whiskey and bourbon selections as well. And GAMES. Not just videogames too (there's a lot of that, including an arcade cabinet for two people to play fighting games there!!!!!) but they also had a giant Jenga, a big connect four, and several other smaller games in order to be able to appease crowds with kids. A lot of the menu is videogame themed, which is by design, but don't let it put you off from taking the place seriously. This is very well run and I'm already looking for reasons to go back again.

There are tons of TVs around and, in talking to our server, they have basically any sports package you would want so if you want to watch a game, this is the place to do it. We split a club sandwich. Several football fans asked about the game being changed and were told that we had to watch volleyball. Many started to close out their checks and after closing mine and going to the host's desk, Miss Gabriele snatched the parking ticket from my hand and proceeded to validate my ticket. I was beyond stunned and in total disbelief. I went to speak to the manager and he was very dismissive and as I looked over, there was Gabriele laughing and flashing a heart with her two hands my way. She was very antagonistic in manner and the manager did absolutely nothing. I have never been treated in such an unprofessional manner as I was at this establishment. The…read moreatmosphere and warmth of our initial experience was so great that I made it a deliberate mission to find it again when visiting recently. We were thrilled when we finally walked through the door again after wracking our brains to remember our favorite spot in Old Town. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young woman who, mentioned it was her very first day as an assistant to the bartender. Despite being brand new, she was warm, engaged, and genuinely welcoming, excited for us that we had made it back after several years, and impressed with our efforts. Shortly thereafter the bartender on duty approached us mid-conversation, visibly irritated. When I mentioned that we hadn't yet decided on drinks but were being well taken care of in the meantime, she interrupted sharply to bark at us that she was the bartender and the ONLY one who could help us. The tone was unwelcoming enough that after a moment, my companion and I determined that we would prefer to move on and left without ordering. The atmosphere is truly special, and it deserves to be matched by the experience guests receive at the bar. Our experience was simply not the vibe that night, and I truly was disappointed FOR the new hire who was doing what she should in engaging us until we could be served. I sincerely hope to return on a future visit to San Juan and to rediscover the experience that first brought me back to La Grieta.
