Much to my wife's dismay, I have only got two haircuts "out" since COVID. One was for a wedding in the summer and one was yesterday as I prepare to see my daughter play D2 lacrosse in a quest for national recognition for her and her team in her senior year!
Penfield Road Supercuts got me right in and Kaylee was polite, efficient and creative in making my mop look like a pretty good top! She gave me recommendations on products and listened to me about my life that can be very extra with all that I do!
I got right in, was super happy with the cut and Kaylee is a great ambassador for Supercuts, really the only place I will go for a cut (besides my neighbor or my wife cleaning up my messes!)
A second thing that pushed me over the top regarding this store was what happened in chair number 1 as you come in. A young man was getting his hair cut and was really liking it. He responded to the stylist named Jerry and he got a pretty cool shave/cut that made him smile.
Upon going up to pay, the young man who was developmentally disabled was surprised by the total for the haircut. He was short $1 but it could have been a million by his reaction.
Alls anyone disabled (or anyone for that matter) wants is to be ACCEPTED. This break from the script mortified the customer, him apologizing over and over.
Through all of this, Jerry very, super nicely assured him that it was fine. That the price has changed and that Jerry would pick up the $1 and that it was no problem whatsoever.
The young man assured Jerry that he would be back with the right amount next cut and Jerry said that would be fine.
This empathy, this caring, this connecting is what is missing in our digital world. I applaud Supercuts and I applaud Kaylee and Jerry for a phenomenal representing of their company and their own personhood.
As a special educator teaching teachers in college, junior high students and high school students suspended after school, I worry about how they will be treated or handled. This could have gotten ugly but Jerry, not only kindly paid the remainder of the bill but also forwent a tip and I've spoken with so many stylists that I know the tip helps a great deal when you are an hourly employee.
So Kaylee and Jerry both got $10 tips from this customer but more importantly, I hope they get the recognition for their excellent service on a slow day! read more
