This business must have changed owners. The reviews here are old, newest is from 2024. When I went today in Jan. 2026 there were no other customers and one worker, Ken. I explained the haircut I wanted but he either didn't understand or had his own ideas that he wanted to implement, which turned out to be a basic bob, for which I was charged $35 when the website says a women's haircut is $25. He used only a razor, not scissors, which I found strange and feel that I now have split ends. I asked that my bangs be cut eyebrow length straight across. He cut them parted, short and much shorter in the middle. The effect is that of a six year old who cut their own bangs. He was a nice person, though. read more

Terrible experience. The lady doesn't know how to properly do hair and has terrible customer service and will make you feel rushed. The place is dirty and unkept. It's not worth it spend your money somewhere else. read more

I keep coming back out of convenience, but I know I should get my hair cut elsewhere. I've had some inconsistent haircuts from the same person and sometimes I feel my haircuts are rushed (ie. less than 10 minutes). At the same time, i've also had decent haircuts. I think it's a matter of whether they are in a rush to close or move on to the next customer. Luckily, i'm pretty nonchalant about my haircuts. I know that it will grow back eventually (for now) and I will end up looking like Shaggy Rogers in a month's time. I guess all the childhood years of having my presbyopic mom cut my hair has taken its mental toll. With that said, if you're a guy needing a simple trim, Hair & Us is not a terrible option. In my mind, it's on the same level as a place like Great Clips. See if you can get Jimmy, who actually takes his time (30 minutes) and really takes pride in what he does. read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!! The owner of this hair salon either does not care or does not understand the meaning of customer satisfaction. My good friend requested a certain hair color, and was not satisfied with the result. When presented with this situation, the owner did not agree with her complaint, and said that she would only correct this if my friend paid again for this to be done. No. Nein. Non. Nyet. And other ways of saying no. I needed a trim. We're not talking layers or anything, just a simple trim of six months' worth of growth. I figured any place that cuts hair can do it, heck, I could probably have my dude do it but he's busy as crap, so I thought I'd get it done on my lunch hour. This place is close, so I walked over and poked my head in the door. First mistake. This dude in the worst sweater I've ever seen is talking on the phone at the front, and as another woman in the salon is walking toward me, he gets off the phone and steals her client. He's got his hands in my hair immediately, while I'm still taking my coat off. I should have walked out then, as I was getting a major creep vibe, but I figured it'd be quick and painless and over soon. He asks if I'd like my hair cut dry, and I say it's fine to wash it, no need to dry since I work so close (and I don't mind wet hair). He takes me over to the sink and proceeds to do the worst and most awkward wash I've ever had. My face was in his armpit most of the time, and meanwhile he's asking me really awkward questions. How old am I? Early 20s? Where do I work? Oh, working with kids, huh? My hair is a lovely color. Do I have siblings? Where am I from? Where do I live? I'm giving minimal answers, which usually are a signal to stop talking. Alas, broadcast not received. I feel him putting some goo in my hair, and he explains that it's leave-in conditioner, they don't sell it, it's made especially for them, and it's very expensive. It smells like creep. He obviously has no idea how to work with long hair, as he jerks my head around and violently pats it with a towel to try to get the water out, which did nothing. So after he was done tugging and slapping my scalp, he tells me to move over to the chair, but my hair is TOO LONG for him to cut sitting down. My hair isn't that long, people. I've never encountered this before. So he makes me stand up for the entire cut, and keeps poking at my head to keep me "upright" (I don't know how he knew, since he was approximately one foot shorter than I am), meanwhile trying to sell me a manicure from his wife next door, and someone else in the shop is trying to sell me highlights (I have naturally red hair and I don't do any chemical processes on it). I thought I could tell that he was missing spots from where I was sitting, but I also thought maybe I was imagining it. I also asked him to cut off three inches ("that's a lot for a girl. Most girls ask for, you know, half an inch or something"), and he cut off some amount between five and six inches. I also have to mention that the place was filthy. There was hair (not just a little, but a lot) stuck to the walls. He had to clean off the dirtiest mirror ever just to hand it to me so I could see my hair in the mirror. He goes to ring me out, and tries his best to flip through the screens as quickly as possible, and charges me $18. Now, this is not exactly an expensive place to get hair cut. I know this. If I'd wanted anything more than a trim, I would have gone somewhere nicer. But I wanted inexpensive, and I saw on the screen that he tried to flip through fast that a women's wet cut was $13, which likely means that he charged me $6 for the leave-in conditioner that he didn't ask to put in my hair. When I got home I realized that I didn't make anything up. My hair is too short, uneven, and has random long pieces in the back. The only thing I regret more than tipping is having gone there in the first place. read more

Been to lots of hair places and return here - because it is convenient - lots of parking, same reliable staff. I brought in a picture from a catalog of a hair style I liked on someone my build and size- and he did just what I wanted. Better, actually. Low key, low prices, breeze in without wait lines. Family waiting can go buy groceries nearby. I keep coming back. read more

They're incompetent. I had been to this place a couple of times, before making an appointment for my wedding hairdo. The previous times I had been there was for a trim or at most steps/layers - and nothing really bad happened. I'd like to say, you can't really go wrong with a trim or layers but after reading the comments left by Margaret R., I'm not so sure. The woman (who seems to be running the business) was never very confident - but I can say that only in retrospect. I had visited her four or five days ahead of time and shown her the hairdo I had in mind. Instead of studying that hairdo in detail in advance, she asked me to upload the picture again on the spot. The minute she laid her hands on my hair, I knew she had no clue how to proceed. She set my hair on big curlers, whereas the curls in the picture were soft and delicate. I should have asked her to stop right then and walked out. She had told me the procedure would take one hour. Little did I know that what she actually meant was, "you'd be here for at least an hour and I'd be attending to other people as and when I please". I reminded her when I got there that day that I had only one hour for this appointment. An hour went by and she was nowhere close to finishing. I looked at myself in the mirror and the hairdo didn't seem to be converging at all to the image on the screen. I started getting nervous and she tried to calm me down by saying, "I can do whatever you want me to do; how do you want your hair?" Goodness! Look at the picture on your computer screen! I felt my hair and I didn't know what material it was anymore. It felt rough. Nobody would have liked to even hug me. I asked her to wash and blow-dry my hair at once. In the meantime, she started accusing me of putting her under-pressure. She washed my hair in the rudest possible way such that it hurt. Another co-worker took over at that point (obviously junior to her) who was rather sweet (and probably scared of what had just happened). She blew-dry my hair and since I had already been there 20 minutes more than the original plan, I didn't get anything done to my hair and left paying 20 dollars and no tip. I have beautiful long black hair and looked pretty with my natural hairstyle but I'd never forget the level of stress and disappointment "Hair & Us" caused me on this special day. read more

Owner Kim makes me look great each and every time. My secretary comes to Kim also and is thrilled with how she looks when she leaves. If you want an expensive ego boost with a sub-par haircut, go elsewhere. If you want a discounted price with discounted quality, go elsewhere. The pricing is on the higher side of okay. I haven't had the guy yet, but he seems quirky to me. The woman, however, did a wonderful job. She is very experienced and is the one of the few people to know how to cut my hair without me saying anything. She also has great memory so she knows just how I like my hair even if I don't show up for months at a time. She's a little short so she has a few unconventional ways of cutting hair like asking me to stand up so that she can accurately see the ends of my long and wavy hair, but it works. read more

I have been going exclusively to Hair & Us for about 5 years now. Jim is as good of a barber/stylist as I have found in Monroe County. I live on the west side of Rochester and drive to Brighton because he and the staff do such a great job. To me, it is worth the 20 min drive out there. The price is very reasonable and the new location is a great place! read more
