This gym is expensive and feels old. I think it's at least $99 per month for a couple, and $125 or more for a family membership. If playing racquetball and swimming laps are important to you, then it might be worth it. They just raised their rates and I'm not able to see any upgrades. Very few spin class options. The bathrooms are very run down, especially the men's, where there is no privacy. The men's open showers are right out of a 1950's military barrack. The ventilation is bad, so the smells coming from the one toilet stall mix with the steam and fill the whole bathroom and changing area. And though it's not the gym's fault, some of the gym members have very bad hygiene standards in the bathroom. The age demographic generally skews 65+. You can potentially save hundreds of dollars per year elsewhere. read more

Don't let this company have your card information I have canceled or put my my account on hold multiple times and they just don't stop charging me. Superior Athletics has unequal facilities for men and women. On the women's side they have partitions in the showers for privacy. On the men's side there are no partitions. You have to stand there in a group shower next to some guy washing his a** and there's nothing you can do about it. Women refuse to except that type of shower situation, and I think men should speak up and refuse to except that condition as well. I have talked to Superior Athletics' management about this, and they poo pooed it off like they really don't care. I really like this gym there is good cardio equipment, good machines (that is new) and the staff and other members are pretty friendly. The free weights could be better from the dumbbells to weight plates. I would like to give the gym 5 stars, but below are my reasons for the 4 stars. 1) the cleanliness of the gym could be better, looking at some of the equipment you can see spilled food substances spilled on the equipment,(spilled substance that's been there for weeks) yes members should clean after themselves and wipe down equipment after they are done, but they don't. 2) dust bunnies under equipment and on top of equipment, I know this sounds petty and nip picking but if I am paying for a membership the gym should be free of dust and clean. 3) different brands of weight plates and dumbbells. To me it's like the weight plates and dumbbells were pieced together from other gyms that closed down. 4) it would be a good option to have a set of Ez Bars starting at 10lbs to 100lbs. There is the straight curl bar but to give the members another option would be great and a better lift. Would I continue paying a membership here YES the gym has potential and I am just giving my view. I would also recommend Superior Gym to anyone who is looking for a good gym to join. I've been coming here for nearly 2 years. This place could be great. It's adequate. I would love to see more stations for cleaning off equipment. (I'd do it) Even the cruddy little gyms I've been to have some spray and paper towels. This place? One for one section! Place some more so people will use them. Large areas with one station. Hell who knows if they even clean the place. I've NEVER seen any equipment cleaned. (Yes, the other places do.) I'd say that for weight equipment. It's about 50/50 new/old. And when I say old we're talking 30 years. (I know cause I was here when it was new!) Most of it still works fine. A few don't. The stickers are gone-no warnings or instructions available. The additional products like grips, tricep ropes, are worn and need replacing on several pieces of equipment. The staff are usually busy doing a class or training; otherwise I never see anyone who works here (front desk excluded). read more

Customer service sucks. Stephanie at the front desk is rude and I called to ask about a guest pass and she tells me it's $30 if I'm a student. So I get an Uber ride there only for her to try and charge me $50 because she said she forgot to mention I had to be under 26. (I'm 28) So even though she is the one that made the mistake. She would not honor her word and made me waste my time and money to come there. So irritating and frustrating when I have very limited time to enjoy my family while visiting. read more

Occasionally I use this branch rather than my regular one on Barnett Rd. The Cardley Ave. club is the original and largest of the three branches. It has a large swimming pool, ball courts, lots and lots of machines and weights plus there is even a "kids" exercise room. It has the advantage of being open Sundays. One the downside, its main parking lot is sometimes full, though it has another shared lot across the street. Its lookers are poorly designed and getting old and worn looking. The monthly fee for this club is higher than for the Barnett branch but then it has the pool and other amenities not at Barnett. read more

Best gym I've ever been to! It's huge - there are more rooms and more equipment than I could possibly use. Everyone is SUPER friendly and helpful and the facilities are very clean. All their equipment works perfectly and they have more classes than I know what to do with. It's also cool that my membership allows me to take classes at the other club because there are different programs. I doubt I will because there are so many options at the one I'm going to, but it's a nice option. I HIGHLY recommend this club and for $40/month it can't be beat! read more

I tried out two other gyms in Medford, trying to find that perfect match (and because I'm one of those jerks who takes advantage of free trials), and this gym is the one! I was disappointed when I learned that they do not offer free trials, but what they do offer is a $12 day pass. It's kind of steep for a single day, but it's nice to be able to try it out. In addition to offering the one day pass, they also offer other temporary memberships that are more expensive but don't require a joining fee. This worked nicely for me, since I was in Medford temporarily. I might note here that if you join their pricing is comparable to other (worse) gyms in the area. The facilities are awesome. They are super clean, and pretty much meat-head free. They have basketball and racquet-ball courts, a large pool in which they do a wide range of classes, a women-only room, a large a free weight area, a room dedicated to machines, as well as dedicated to training rooms. That list is not at all comprehensive. Their machines are always in good repair, and they even have a snack bar where they make fresh smoothies. This place is really classing up the joint. I ended up doing a temporary one month pass, and then leaving Medford after about two weeks, and found myself wishing there was something like this back home. Maybe I just don't know about it, but I'm guessing that here in the bay area, the pricing won't be as reasonable if I do end up finding something similar. read more

An amazing gym with all the best equipment. I'm a long time Oz fitness member that recently switched over to Superior after being very unhappy with Oz recently and can't believe what I was missing. After going to Superior I was blown away by all the high tech equipment they have available here. I go here during the evening hours and the gym is not crowded at all. There's never a wait for the equipment and I feel like I get a much better work out. Not to mention they have a bigger pool that is very clean. Only thing I miss about Oz is the steam room and the later hours. But other than that so far I really can't complain. It's been great so far and is light years ahead of Oz fitness. If you join the main club you can access both clubs which is always nice if you want to change things up a bit. read more

Been a member there for a year. The pool is excellent (salt, no chlorine). Usually I can get in, but sometimes it's full, not too often. The gym upstairs is well-equipped, lots of machines of various types. Took TRX classes from Peter Wolf, my wife took Pilates classes from him. An awesome instructor, very helpful, especially for novices, but what a workout! I'd highly recommend going to his classes. The trainer did a good job of helping me set up a routine, and walking me through the process. I'll continue to be a member. read more

Nice, well-equipped gym, no pushy sales tactics to get you signed up, friendly people, and best of all, this isn't a pick-up joint or a meat market. All ages come, all abilities and the women's only section is a thoughtful touch, although I've never been hassled by men anywhere here. I've only given 4 stars, they would get 5 from me if they kept the locker rooms a tad cleaner and if whoever sets the TV stations gets over their love affair with Fox News. It seems like 2 out of 5 TVs in the main cardio room are set to that and the one in the lobby too. Ugh. read more

I'm slightly biased on this review because I know one of the trainers, but I still frequent this gym and have to say, after being a long time 24 hour fitness member in many different cities, this is by far the best equipped gym with the friendliest staff. I love the woman's gym, the iron and oxygen room, and all the new and innovative ways to keep people active and engaged. They offer all kinds of classes every day, which are included in your membership fees, at both clubs. The gym is open late until 11:30 on weeknights, though sometimes I wish it were open later on weekends, the hours are pretty fair. read more

My first impression of Superior Athletic Club was positive. It seemed to have adequate equipment, fairly clean with an upscale clientele. And a non chlorine pool with adequate lap swim times. However, my second visit was more than terrible - it was an invasion of privacy and security. I worked out in small area with equipment I could utilize (I have some limitation with knee problems). I was told the women's dressing room had a sauna and Jacuzzi. I was also told women could use those areas in the nude since it was women's only area. I saw women exiting the Jacuzzi area in the nude so I thought - why not? I entered the small Jacuzzi room area and into the comforting hot water with adequate jets. As I perused the room, I noticed a small rectangular metal door on the wall. It was open. Curiosity - I went over to look into it. A man from the other side of the wall was looking back at me! Apparently, there is a business maintenance room there. Why the door was open and why he was looking at me are serious questions? I slammed the door shut - very angrily. There is no lock on it from the women's side...just a small old slide bolt. I dressed and reported this to the front desk where I was told "sorry". I asked for an incident report (it was not offered to me) which I completed on site. After I left the facility, a short time later the female manager called me. She did not offer an apology and only seemed to want to make excuses about maintenance, etc. I reported the incident to Medford Police who filled out a report. The young male employee still works there as far as I know. There will be follow up on that issue. There was a young woman in the dressing room (under age of 18). Beyond that ALL women who enter that area deserve respect and security and privacy. The facility does not seem concerned and has not provided any offer of apology or conciliation to me. This is not about money. This is about the RIGHT thing to do to correct the issue so no other woman will experience what I did. It is their responsibility to assure security and privacy for women at their facility at all times. There will be additional follow up on this matter. read more
