Custom Deck did a great job on my new deck. I had a complete tearout and replacement of my old…read moredeck. They went through all the pros and cons of material and construction options with me so I could make the best decision for my needs and budget. They also provided written documentation of how they were going to do everything - details on how the support posts would be set, on the structure, and on the deck boards, etc, many of which were beyond what the local building code requires. And then they were able to deliver on what they said they would do. The new support structure for my deck is rock solid, I swear I could park a truck on it. Good communication with me throughout the entire process. And the finished product is beautiful. I went with a composite deck material. While not the least expensive quote that I had, they were competitive. I went with them because I wanted it done right and last many years, and I fee that they were able to give me that.

A classic case of over promising and under delivering. My job was filled with compromises and cute…read morecorners, which is is exactly what they said set them apart from other contractors. To be fair, the deck looks nice, but the process of getting there was rough. The experience started out great. Our sales rep, Tyler was a pro and the sales material he provided were super polished. We ended up choosing this company because of their promises about not cutting corners and extra details like the use of ground screws vs posts, joist tape, stainless steel fastener, etc. Unfortunately, after signing the contract and the initial email with all the alleged contact info, for all the necessary parties, the problems started. We were out of town when they started the job, but immediately upon arriving, we notice that the failed to lay down the commercial weed barrier under the footprint of the deck. Frankly, i would not have even noticed, but for the fact that giant weed was growing out of the gravel they laid down. Moreover, the gravel they did lay down was super uneven and they left giant holes where the posts I removed were located. To be fair, I did the demo myself, but they supposed came out earlier to check on the site and they made no mention about filling in the holes where the posts were. More annoyingly, when I called them on the lack of the contracted weed barrier, Jason, our PM, tried to convince me that it was not necessary. I immediately, mentioned the weed I saw that brought my attention to issue. Moreover, his attitude was dismissive and patronizing. Next, when the framing started in earnest, I was surprised that they sent out a single guy named Dan to build the entire deck by himself. Dan was a total pro, but with how nice the operation presented itself, and the size of some of the boards, you would expect at least a two man crew. Also, early on, it seemed pretty clear that the crew that installed the ground screws, had limited communication with the guy who was actually building the deck. After the first day, it turned out the several ground screws needed to be reinstalled and they ended up leaving at least two in the ground without capping or covering. Even after reinstalling the screws, it would later turn out that a few of them were not plumb, which would create issues later on. Finally, after the framing was completed, it turned out that the space between the joist were a foot too wide so they failed the city inspection. In the end, they had to rip off the entire top of the frame and redo it. Moreover there were about a dozen 2x6's with huge nails were left on my drive way for several weeks. Once the frame got approved, the Trex went on pretty quick, but likely because of the delays, several fasteners were missed, the bench boards were crooked. More glaringly, they failed install the promised structural screws that fastened the joists to the frame (despite promises to do the same) In fact, we had one joist, (the one where they had to reinstall the ground screw, where the the frame was basically floating over it. Also, with one of the ground screws not being plumb, the joist was not sitting flush on the footing, More annoyingly, when we initially brought up these issues to CDC, they first mentioned how they had new processes to avoid these issues in the future. Little good that would do me. Next, they mention the "lifetime guarantee," but why not get the job done the first time? In the end they ended up putting shims to fill in the space. Here's hoping no issues will come up, because reaching people was also a bit of chore. Final gripe, the job site was a disaster for the several weeks it took for them to finish the job, tags were left on lumber, despite the job starting in July, we still have unused Trex sitting on my driveway. Also, the Bagster (rather than a dumpster) they left on my drive was was left on my lawn as well. I had to personally move it to save my grass. Overall a rough experience and a company that I cannot recommend.

After meeting with Taylor from Skyview and representatives from two rival companies, the decision as to who to sign with was easy to make because the rival companies didn't come close to offering the value, the customization and flexibility, or the quality of projected final product as Skyview. And that's just talking about the product and the return on investment for the cost (I have quotes from other companies for sunrooms half the size for roughly the same price, and they didn't have the same quality of building materials). When you factor in the high level of professionalism, exceptional customer service, and frequent, respectful communication, the value of working with Skyview gets better and better. Considering the amount of time that goes into a project like building a sunroom, working with a team that is respectful, reliable, friendly, and helpful is really important. The quality of the people themselves can make or break your experience. From the time we sat down to discuss options and make plans for our custom sunroom, all the way through the final completion and walk-through of the space, every individual member of the team was exceptional (from the crew building the room to the electricians brought in to the folks organizing logistics and communication from the office to the person actually designing our space). Whenever my partner or I had stupid questions, any member of the crew on site would take the time out to talk it through with us with impressive patience. Or Taylor or Valerie would respond to our email queries within a couple hours, often sooner than later. If there was a concern or question about the build itself, Matt would quickly involve himself to make sure things were addressed to our satisfaction. Even though this was one of many jobs for this team, they never once made us feel like *just another job*. This is especially a shout-out to the building crew since they were here all day long, day after day, in the bitter cold and over the holidays (not on the holidays, though, which we were happy they could enjoy). That they were always so great to work with or talk to in spite of the demands of the job goes to show how genuinely kind and professional they all are. The sunroom they built for us is off the back of our house. The first step was tearing out the old concrete patio and pouring a new slab. Then they began putting up the structure, putting in electrical, etc. They built a gabled roof into the existing roof of the house, which meant removing gutters, tearing into walls, shingling, putting up new gutters. They put down beautiful flooring, installed a ceiling fan (that we supplied, as per the agreement), put up a new interior wall (bead board) with an opening for a dog door (as requested), ran new electrical, installed a baseboard heater to make the room usable all year. The trim-work done at the end is beautiful. When all was said and done, they cleaned up the room and the yard quickly and efficiently. What I'm trying to say is, a lot of time, energy, expertise, and coordination went into putting this together for us. The sunroom has been completely finished for about a week and we have already spent more waking hours in it than the rest of the house. We love it. Our pets love it. We had friends in from out of town and they were blown away by it. I might build another sunroom off this sunroom just to have another project with this team. If you're thinking about a sunroom or other related project, I highly encourage you to contact Skyview and set up a consultation. There were no strings attached until we signed the contract. There's no risk because you can walk away if you aren't satisfied with the plan. But they customize their projects according to your wants and needs, so I think you'll be impressed.
