The present owners have decorated the all-amenities interior with affirmative signage that seems to encourage the occupants to soak in the restorative surroundings which include a private lake front great for fishing, wading, birding, or adventuring out in a classic rowboat. Although it'd be tempting to spend an entire visit just reading on the deck or stretched out in the spacious yard while chucking another log into the fire pit, this location is also ideally situated for day trips to some of the Upper Penninsula's most popular destinations, including Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore, Tahquemenon Falls, Castle Rock, Oswald's Bear Ranch, the shipwreck museum, lighthouses,and the quaint town of Newberry, to name a few. We couldn't help feeling we had the best of both worlds - although we were within walking distance of a convenience store/gas station that boasted everything from homemade dough nuts to basic produce, to firewood, to a full ice cream counter and deli, once we were near the lake, we thought we were miles from the rest of the world. While our children enjoyed following frogs along the shoreline and skipping stones, when they tired of outdoor play or had exhausted themselves playing in the nearby waterfalls, they could take a break in the beautifully furnished living room and find a favorite show on demand. My husband and I were delighted with the wi-fi so that we could catch up on work. When we were ready to unplug, we could read in our king sized bed and have the option to either shut out the world, or watch the night fall on the lake from the sliding door in our bedroom. Since this rental sleeps at least 8 with lots of space and privacy, we can't wait to return for another visit and invite a few friends! This space made for a vacation to treasure!

You also didn't need to go too far to enjoy the towns around Au Train. There were a total of 11 people and the place sleeps a good 14. Everyone was comfortable and enjoyed our time at the cabin. Ages 2-80 and there was something nearby for all to do. They also have cable and WiFi in the cabin as well so if you want a little down time it's available to you. It was a 6-6:30 hr drive for us but it was worth it. I definitely recommend this place if you have a large family looking to enjoy some time together out in nature. They do offer a smaller cabin next door to this place as well.

But don't expect a dishwasher. I have no complaints, really. Not everything works perfectly, but then would they call it "cabins" if the facility operated like a 4* hotel? What would it take to get a five star rating out of me? I'm not sure. Maybe EITHER more rustic & secluded OR more luxurious & refined? The caretaker Don stopped by the next morning after arrival to collect the rest of $, he was extremely helpful with ?'s we had about area. This one sounded and looked great from the little info shown on the web page. There was a contact phone number and email address and that's about it. You had to call for other information such as how to pay or reserve the cabin. I understand that up north people are a bit more trusting but then again they sometimes use that to try and scam you as well. Well keep in mind all the other resorts and such were booked for the entire month of July yet this guys cabin wasn't. He didn't offer a secure 3rd party site to pay by CC or PayPal, there were no reviews ANYWHERE online for his cabin, the address given didn't show up on google maps or on a gps or anywhere else online. Also he responded to our request to reserve the place telling us to send a check to a P.O box all the way in Charlevoix and this cabin is in the middle of the Hiawatha forest! Too many red flags! So, I told him we wanted it but asked him several questions in my reply email along with my suspicions and concerns before I agreed to send him a check, rightfully so. He then waited almost 2 days to reply and once he did, he said someone else already booked it for the dates we wanted. What a coincidence, right??? As soon as we started asking smart questions "all of a sudden" it was no longer available. BE CAREFUL of scams and never send a check or money order to anyone ever! This guy almost scammed me out of $125 and this cabin probably doesn't even exist! Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! Find a place with secure payment options and legit reviews! Stay away from Sam Supernaw's Hiawatha Log Cabin!

we are truly disappointed to have to leave a bad review we had such a great time in the u.p. and it…read morewas nice to use the cabin as a warm spot to sleep. first we were woken up at 3am to what I would assume I'd thier water heater making the loudest most alarming noise. this water heater is in the closet of the bedroom you sleep in 2 feet from the top of the bed. I think now it's the cleaning schedule they have for it Maybe to run in the middle of the night while you have renters. then the day we leave after going through thier check out list multiple times which is to basically clean the house for the house keepers so they dont have to pay them. they message us stating there was a dog there and we now owe them more money. I have picture, gps, and video proof all my animals were at home being cared for. if there was any dog hair from us it fell of our clothes and was absolutely minimal. we have huskies and st Bernard's they shed alot even with fresh cleaned clothes there is a small amount of hair on my clothes and we were there for a week. it is entirely possible a few dog hairs fell off our clothes but not nearly as much as my own post partum hair I bet. if you have animals I don't suggest staying with them or they will attempt to charge you more if they find a dog hair.
