My Honest Experience at K&K Nails…read more I've been going to K&K Nails for almost four years and have always seen Kim. I travel from the east end all the way to the west end because, in the beginning, the salon was very clean, Kim paid close attention to detail, and she made sure I left with exactly what I wanted. That level of care is what kept me coming back. Over time, things started to change. The salon became louder, and Kim often listened in on my phone conversations and even added her own comments. It was uncomfortable, but I continued going because I was still happy with the results. In the last year, the quality of the service declined a lot. When I brought my partner with me, Kim would have someone else do her nails. Twice, the gel polish wasn't cured properly and ruined her nails right before a vacation. Another time, the same technician caused actual damage to her nails. After that, my partner decided she wouldn't return. My final visit was the point where I decided not to go back. I asked Kim to cut my nails down, and instead of checking the length with me, she cut them extremely short without asking. The nails didn't match at all. Some were straight, some were crooked or twisted, and the shapes on both hands were completely different. While doing my nails, she kept stopping mid-service to chat with the other staff, even while drilling. This went on through the whole appointment. When I spoke up about it, I did so calmly. I explained that the service had been declining for a while and that I wasn't trying to nitpick, but I wanted her to understand what I was seeing. Instead of listening, she said she didn't want her day ruined. Then she said she didn't understand what I meant. When I clarified, she responded with, "Well, I don't know what you understand." Eventually, she told me that if I wasn't happy, I shouldn't come back. I also found out afterward that she made a comment in front of my partner saying, "Of course she's going to complain," simply because I asked for a specific polish. Another thing I've noticed over the years is how differently customers are treated. When Black customers are in the salon, there's more upselling and more dismissive behaviour. When non-Black clients say no, it's respected. Watching that inconsistency has been uncomfortable and disappointing. Based on all of this, I can't recommend K&K Nails anymore. The service isn't consistent, the professionalism has dropped, and I no longer feel respected as a customer.
