I had an absolutely lovely experience at Sekai while on a business trip to Toronto. I legit found them on Yelp while driving from the airport to my hotel. They were only a few blocks from where I was staying and after giving them a call, I had an appointment for a gel manicure later that evening. I arrived to find a cute salon with big windows and a lot of natural light, great for people watching. While it was relatively small, it felt very cozy and the staff welcomed me with open arms. I was having a bit of a hard time figuring out what color to go with and they were so kind to help me narrow down the perfect shade. My nail tech was awesome and it was as if we had known each other for a while. I had to have gel polish removed which made my appointment a bit longer, about 1.5 hours total and it flew by as we chatted about tattoos, piercings, where I should go for dinner, guys, drama in the music industry, and so much more. I wish I could remember her name but if you read this - you know who you are! My total came out to about $70 after tip and my nails look freakin' awesome. It's been just over two weeks and they still look on point. I've also gotten several compliments on the color! Just peep the photo I uploaded to Yelp. I stumbled on this place by chance and so glad I did. It's beautiful, clean and feminine without being trendy or fussy. I love the big windows (and natural light). Perfect for people watching. I was here during the day on a Tuesday, which wasn't too busy so I never felt rushed or crowded. The woman who did my pedicure and threading was very sweet and always checked in to make sure the temperature of things was good. She was a perfectionist and I felt great leaving the salon knowing my toes and eyebrows looked fantastic! I opted for the signature pedicure with massage. **Update: Ada is no longer working there. Kudos to Sekai who added Ada to their team, who has been doing my nails for years (as well as the occasional brow wax). I followed her here from her previous beauty bar that was pricey, but I always came back because of the awesome service she provides. So lucky for me, now that she moved to Sekai on weekends, I can get a combo mani + pedi for slightly better prices (some may say it's still slightly pricey). She's very gentle yet effective and I always feel super pampered at the end of my appointment cause she gives the best leg massages! She also checks in with you throughout the appointment to ensure you're comfortable. I know some people complain they don't like long appointment times? Odd because I enjoy getting pampered. The drying time might make your appointment feel longer but if you're getting gel/shellac on your nails you're pretty much out of there in decent time. For a gel mani and regular pedi I was there for maybe 1.5 hours max. The lady at the front desk was also super friendly when I was cashing out. Overall the salon is very clean with t, but the salon itself is slightly outdated as they've been open for awhile now so I think they could use a bit of a decor refresh. read more

This place is an excellent salon. I'm currently treating myself to a shellac manicure every two-three weeks and loving it. I put on an incredibly indulgent podcast (Oprah, Goop, something equally cringeworthy to most) and give myself one hour of me time. Today, I did just this and my nails are hot pink and perfect. The only reason it's not a full five stars is because it's a little on the pricy side for a mani and it took over an hour. Likely worth it for most, but I'm new to the nail game. read more

My nails were in horrid shape - I'm talking borderline homeless status. I called Sekai and had the pleasure of speaking with Sana (the owner) on the phone who quickly gave me the price low-down of the services I was interested in and booked me to come in 20 mins later. Now, Sekai is so freaking cute - it's got the charm and aesthetic of a well dress fashionista. Upon entering I was greeted warmly by none other than Sana who helped me pick a colour for my nails. This process can often be exhausting and can slightly give me anxiety as I'm picking the perfect temporary polish - insert eye roll. Anyways, a wonderful woman cleaned, buffed and painted my tootsies while another one got to work on my hands. When all was said and done, my anal retentiveness kicked in and I felt like there was one nail that was crooked (I later learned it was my finger not the paint job) but the team at Sekai was more than happy to fix that bad boy and send me along the way. All in all, LOVED my experience (9.5/10). I concur with the other Yelper that suggested that a loyalty card would make the place just a tad bit sweeter :). Either way, I'll be back!! read more

I had a massage, Mani, and Pedi for my birthday. Things I liked and loved: Warm welcome, for an introvert like me I felt very comfortable in a new place. :) The masseuse was really nice, she even mentioned how to tie my hair way up, so it did not bother me when I laid on my back(hey little details COUNT!). The massage was so relaxing I fell asleep (I think at one point I snored LOL). I felt like I could tell her how I wanted the pressure to be, and where to focus After I was done (I was asked if I wanted some tea or water, felt so spoiled!) I went to get my warm Pedi and Mani, the lady asked me if the water I put my feet and hands was too hot, it was perfect. The warm Pedi and Mani involve a plastic bag with some oils and treatment and another heated bag to put your feet and hands in (Mani and Pedi were done in different times, not at same time). The treatment left my hands and feet SO SOFT!! Because I had to leave, the store manager gave me a spray that smelled so good to have my hand nail polish dry quicker. Usually, it takes about an hr to dry for me. With the spray, it took 30 min. Put on my jacket without damaging my polish. I was a whole new person when I left! read more

I researched nail salons and beauty bars for relaxing pedicures while my boyfriend and I were in town. While the team was very accommodating with helping make our appointments via email, we were disappointed. The pedicure chairs are not the most comfortable and not suitable for tall men by any means. The water basins, while lined for sanitary purposes, were lack-luster. We were hoping the pedicures would make up for a lack of comfort, but it was VERY basic. I brought my own polish, as I am a Deborah Lippman brand enthusiast. I recommend upgrading the dixie cup offerings for water/tea or removing the amenity all together. In my opinion, other salons are a better value for the price and amenities. read more

I have had two gel manicures done at Sekai in the last month. Both times the polish discoloured within a few days. I was told this happens sometimes with lighter colours but I exclusively get light coloured gel manicures and I have never had them discolour when done at any other salon. When I went back after my first manicure, the esthetician removing my polish even commented to say it looked like a different colour as she was taking the polish off. She then was so aggressive with removing the polish that within 1 week I had 4 broken nails, with some nails having 3 or 4 breaks just on one nail. I winced and commented that she was hurting me. The polish was clearly not soft enough to come off but instead of leaving it she scraped and filed aggressively. Within 1 week the polish started lifting and peeling off. I am used to gel manicures lasting at least 2 weeks. I expect for the price that the gel manicure would not discolour within 3 days, peel and have left my nails so damaged that they repeatedly break. I will not be going back. read more

I've been to Sekai twice now and unfortunately had one ok experience and one horrible one. The Pros: Adorable salon, feels very clean/sanitary and the women running it couldn't be friendlier/more hospitable. Cons: I had both a mani and a pedi during my first visit and it wasn't the best that I've had but it was good enough to come back when it was convenient. The exfoliation/scrub process was pretty lacklustre and my polish (both toes/hands) only last about a day and a half. I get manis/pedis done all the time and don't have this issue with my regular salon. The second visit was the deal breaker. The girl doing my nails was incredibly aggressive with the cuticle pusher and ended up cutting four of my fingers. I left the salon actively bleeding and my hands hurt for days. The polish was applied pretty poorly, bad enough that my partner noticed as soon as I got home. The weirdest part was that the manicurist didn't really acknowledge what she had done. I've had an accidental nick at the salon before but to not apologize or say anything? I've got all kinds of painful hangnails forming now, it's definitely going to take a couple of weeks for my hands to recuperate. I really do think that the women running the place are doing a great job and I feel bad that I didn't speak up when I was leaving. I was a bit shocked at the time and wasn't even sure where to begin. The guy behind the counter where I usually go always checks my nails before leaving and once he even insisted on a polish change when he wasn't happy with what he saw. He's also always walking around and watching people to see if they seem happy with the process. If he catches someone repeatedly checking out their nails he always comes over to make sure they're happy. I really appreciate that attention and it ensures that the customers are getting a good service, even the ones that feel uncomfortable speaking up in front of the manicurist. read more

I came to Sekai in two different occasions. I got my face threading during the fall and was pretty disappointed with the result for the price I paid. Over $50 for full face thread and came home to notice how the aestheticians have missed many spots all over my face. Was kind of debating whether or not give Sekai another try, but I'm happy I did! Went back for a pedicure today and it was very well done. They were gentle on my feet and the lady made sure I had no issues with what she was doing (making sure the water was alright, making sure she was scrubbing too hard, etc.). They let me hang around for over 30 minutes making sure the nails were completely dry before letting me slip my socks and boots back on. Came home to freshly painted nails with no chips/smudges! The service here is extremely welcoming and warming - probably one of the nicest and comfiest I ever experienced. Definitely going to come back for more mani/pedi's in the future! One thing I'm skeptical about is their cleanness - the place is generally spotless, they saran wrap their foot tubs for each client, and they use gloves during pedicures; but I what I noticed is that when they cleaning the foot tubs, they would just remove the saran wrap on top and nothing is done to make sure the tub is completely sanitized after each use. These small extra-precaution is what really gets me when I get my beauty services done - I need places to make sure they know how clean they are. Will definitely give an update this review once I have more services. Plus, I think this place should have a loyalty points system going on!!! read more

Originally, I was going to give Sekai a 4. It seemed really hot when I went in, and they didn't have the usual chairs with the tub below, but just a plastic lines bucket that they fill. But I had my mani/pedi on Tuesday and it's now Saturday and there's not a chip in sight. What??? Regular polish and I handle silverware every day, which is notorious for making nails chip. My dishwasher also broke and I had to handwash dishes for the rest of the week. As you can see, the acid test for me is how smooth and even my mani/pedi is and how long it lasts. On this front, Sekai did a remarkable job. There's nothing worse than paying for someone to make your nails look great and the next day (or often even later that night, they chip.) Lately, I've been to a lot of places that really fail on both these fronts and it's kept me from going for regular visits. The girls who did my feet and hands were very professional and friendly. The receptionist was great on the phone, fitting me in for a simultaneous mani/pedi within the hour. Everything inside the salon looked clean and fresh. The best part? $40.00 for a great thorough mani/pedi. With tax it comes to $47, and i always leave a nice tip. But it's a good price for a proper job. This was a great experience and I think I found my new place to get my nails did :) read more

I do not write reviews. In fact, I've written one on Yelp - ever. I needed to come and tell you that it does not get any better. I've moved out of the area, into Etobicoke and still make the trek to Sekai. I've tried nail salons near my home, near my office in midtown, and frankly none compare. There's a lot of areas for consideration when it comes to a great nail salon. Cleanliness, friendliness, cost, ability to accommodate, variety, environment...etc. Sekai gets a gold star in all categories. I always feel at home when I visit. All of the girls are super nice and friendly and put up with me when I'm being too chatty with a smile. I've called merely hours before I intended to visit and have been accommodated. Every time I go I get the same services (shellac mani and regular pedi, which both seem to last a life time ) so I can't speak to their other services, but my friend swears by Sekai for her eyebrows. I promise I will expand my horizons and report back one day. The only thing Sekai is missing is some sort of a "frequent flyer" card to reward me for making my mission on TTC from Etobicoke, other than that I will never leave you or run astray Sekai!!! read more

When I first moved to Toronto I searched for a place to get my nails done. I was looking for a place that was a perfect mix between cheap nail salon and a high-end spa and just so happened to stumble upon Sekai. I've been going there fairly religiously every 2 weeks or so since September. I love this place and have recommended Sekai to so many people and they all feel the same way. Melissa sits at the front desk and makes this place feel like home. I thought she owned Sekai up until quite recently when I had to ask her. She is so knowledgable and goes above and beyond to make sure you have the best possible experience. There was one time when the lamp for my shellac polish wasn't setting the polish correctly. The aesthetician was not pleased with the work and because I was in a bit of a rush I had to leave before she could fix it. The team at Sekai completely compensated this mishap and proved to me their high level of standards. The way they dealt with the situation was amazing and probably the best customer service I have ever had. Also, they have pretty good deals for a mani and pedi for $45, brow wax for $10 and other great monthly benefits. I cant say enough good things about this place and look forward to going back all the time. read more

I needed a last minute lashes place for my friends wedding and they have fantastic hours of operation and they are decently priced (not the cheapest but the quality is so great). The space is clean and quite large and open concept. Great for groups. We had one woman do our lashes Joanna. She is so skilled and kind and funny and fast! I am definitely making this my new go to. They give you all the fancy ginger water when you go in and you are met with a smile. Their pedicure is great but I cant say the same for their manicure. You hands are not soaked in water to get rid of the dead skin (but your feet are!). I wanted french tip with square tops but it didnt look very good. Summary: I've only been here for eyebrow threading. I had both fantastic and HORRIFIC experiences. My first visit was everything I could have ever dreamed of! The young woman gave me a consultation and walked me through step by step how she would go about grooming my wild brows down. Efficient, clean, and did precisely what I asked. The second visit was a nightmare. The older woman sat me down in the chair and didn't ask me what I wanted. She went immediately to town roughly on my eyebrow, and in the first rip I felt that a large amount of have had been yanked out. I looked up at her panicked, but she didn't pause until she was finished with the brow. She eventually asked me to check in the mirror and sure enough: I had a wispy thin tail on my right eyebrow. My heart sank; it took me months to grow my eyebrows out to their full glory. Gone in half a second! The first woman was lovely, and I should have requested her for my second visit. I've only had my brows done here but I come back like clockwork about every 2 months. The location is very convenient. The reception staff has always been well versed, friendly, polite and very accommodating to last minute bookings. I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for my appointment and they offer tea and water while you wait. The prices are VERY reasonable. I like my brows full but tidy and every now and then I'll splurge and get them tinted while I'm at it. I got a deep cleansing facial from Joanna and it was heavenly! Joanna took all the time necessary to do thorough extractions unlike others who rush through and miss areas. I was surprised to receive a foot massage while the mask was left on my face. So nice! She removed my milia without leaving scars as I have experienced at another salon. Love this place! They have always been so accommodating and the owners are absolutely awesome! Shauna is amazing; just great at what she does. As a very regular spa-goer, I have certainly had my share of bad experiences - and it's so nice to find a place that you LOVE! I am a huge fan of this establishment! This was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had at a salon. I booked and regula pedi and shellac manicure. I was asked to come 15 minutes early I came about 25 minutes early to allow for the shellac removal from my previous manicure. There was a miscommunication regarding the pricing when I booked and I ended up paying $5 more than what I was told but it was okay because the girl st the front said it was because it was a Shellac manicure and she waived the removal charge due to the miss communication from another staff. The girl who was working at the front was really nice and started the process of removal, then the woman who started my pedi took off the foils after I only had them on for maybe about 10 minutes only. I was wondering why but though she's the expert. Then she asked me if she shouldn't cut my toe nails, I did say I wanted them short. She only cut some of them and then when I asked if she could make them a bit shorter she was very annoyed and even rolled her eyes at me. This made me feel like very uncomfortable and I was not trying to be rude at all. She also barely buffed and scrubbed but my feet weren't in too bad shape, but I feel like she was not really paying attention when doing it and was not doing it properly. Okay understandably it's not the funnest thing to do, then when going to the the manicure she applied the foils again and was really scrapping the shellac without it being soft yet but she seemed in a very big hurry. Then another very nice lady took over however they were in a very huge rush and did not want to really wait for he shellac to soften and she filed the top layer of my nails to the point that it was hurting my index finger. They didn't not really trim and do things carefully and I felt like it was rushed and done very poorly. I even made a comment I wish I could come in the next day since nice they were in a hurry to close but I had a flight the next day. The next morning my nail ( the one that was filed the most harshly to remove the shellac fast) broke because of the harsh filing they did and frankly I'm disappointed because I wanted them to be nice for a special occasion. Very disappointed and felt very uncomfortable when I just wanted it to be a nice treat. The person who greeted me at the beginning and started the shellac removal was very nice and the person who finished my nails was super nice but rushing and not don't things with care. The person who did my pedi though made me feel not good and weird for asking them to be shorter. read more

My friends know I am very picky about waxing. When I love something they hear all about it. Now you are gonna hear all about it: I just had the best waxing experience I have had in this city! The wax was high quality. Johanna was able to take charge of the experience in a way that put me completely at ease. I have had waxing appointments in other places where the Esthetician seemed more embarrassed than I was. Not here. Joanna and I had fun chatting and she cared about making me comfortable. She had excellent communication about what I wanted. She had excellent technique and cared about the small details. It is their policy to clean off the wax afterwards!! So rarely is the time taken for that. This is the only place I am going from now on. read more

We went for the Brazilian wax and it was both a comfortable and quick appointment, the lady did a fantastic job she was very kind and did her job well. The wax they use is really good and is a lot less painful than other places I've been to. The price is pretty affordable as well.
