I contacted 7 painters, heard back from 5, got quotes from 4, and selected J&M because they had the right answers, knew what they were doing, and offered the best value. If it sounds like they weren't the cheapest, that's true, because they used primer and two coats of the right paint where needed and did the prep the right way. When you're paying a large expense for your house, you want it done right so it will last and you don't have to do it again soon. They did a high quality job that I was very pleased with. The way to determine if the price is fair is to subtract the cost of materials and divide the remaining cost by the number of people-days it takes. From that perspective and from their quality of work, they were definitely the best deal and not worth doing the work myself. I'm glad I didn't because they knew more than I did and it turned out better. During the process, I observed all the work and asked a lot of questions. I like to hire technicians, not sales people. Technicians are honest, share information freely, and explain the principles. Marcos and his crew are definitely technicians that I trust. They did everything exactly as promised including showing up when scheduled. In some places, they went above and beyond, always aiming to please. I enjoyed working with them and I highly recommend them.

I got one bid for sanding and repainting in certain places. Then Tony Machado came to give me a bid. He talked me out of doing any painting. He explained that I should wait a few years, that the issues are minor and won't hurt my old growth redwood siding at all. It's more complicated than this simple explanation, but let's just say that he saved me a load of money and talked himself out of some income. That's a rare, honest worker. I'll surely use the Machado Brothers when the time comes to paint.

We had JJM painting paint our house a couple of years ago and while the team that did the work was…read moregood they did do some things wrong and then refused to correct them. In fact when I tried to get in touch directly with JJ he wouldn't return my calls. We had an issue with our metal railings that they had claimed they were going to use a metal paint on but after two years were starting to fail. All over the railings you can see the old color coming through. It turns out they didn't use metal paint (likely to save money and cut corners) What's worse is that I recommended them to my mom to use them so they even got another piece of business out of is and then treated us poorly by claiming that they wouldn't warrant the work. I definitely would not recommend them to anybody given their poor follow up to what was a 15K paint job.
