After interviewing eight potential painting contractors we chose to hire Watercolors. It was a great decision! First: for those starting this process of choosing a contractor, do your due diligence and check your painter's name, company's name, and license number. You may be surprised by the results--I know I was. Watercolors has a license in good standing, employee insurance, and is bonded. The license is held 100% by the owner, Jason Weihrauch, an upright person who stands behind his workers and delivers personal attention. Second: consider the written bid. A bid should be detailed about the specific materials that will be used. Jason's bid included the products, number of coats of paint, expected prep work, and even the port-a-potty. Third: the job itself. Watercolors did extensive and complete prep work. They even, for an extra agreed upon (more than fair) amount, fixed some window sills with termite damage. My neighbor was so impressed with the job that transformed my old deck, they hired Watercolors that day! And they were quite pleased with the result as well. He quickly saw the trouble spots, had solutions and didn't try to over-sell me on work I did not want or feel was needed. He was punctual and fast to provide his proposal. For couples, where each has their separate opinions, Jason is your man. He got along great with both of us, helped us choose colors for the exterior of our house (yes, he really made choosing colors easy for us), and he gave a fair estimate for the work. Jason is a down-to-earth, honest guy with a sense of humor. He treats you with respect as he does his employees. He does not rush them with their work. He provides worker's compensation insurance which is important for people working up on ladders. His lead painter, Carlos, is the reason the work comes out flawless. Carlos' pride, work ethic, and attention to detail shows in his work. He is thorough in prepping the house before painting. When we pointed out details we wanted, Carlos was there to do it. We were very, very pleased with Jason and his team of painters. We needed the entire interior of my father-in-laws house painted, year's of smokers in the house plus multiple room colors (some rooms had up to three shades of purples and another room had light blue walls and a dark blue ceiling). All I knew was I wanted all the walls and the ceiling to be white and I honestly didn't care which shade of white. Jason suggested we go with Frost which we did and it looks great, plus it's one of Kelley Moore's stock colors so we will never need to worry about having to mix paint for future jobs since the house is going to be rented. After Jason was done my husband and I walked in the house and it looked normal the way you would expect a house to look and it took Jason asking what we thought to realize that it had been painted. Please keep in mind nothing about the inside of this house was normal when Jason started and when he was finished it looked like you would expect a house to look. I am a little late in posting about a paint job that Watercolors did for me. I had three outside shade structures that were in terrible condition with peeling paint and very rough lumber. They power washed everything and then sanded all three structures very extensively. They then painted everything with 2 coats of paint and it looks great. They also painted a bedroom and bathroom and this was done very nicely with very fine detail. Very easy to work with. read more

Working with Jason and his team was a great experience. We've been homeowners for 30 years, and unfortunately, I can't say that about most of the contractors who have worked on our homes. Either the job takes much longer than planned (because they are simultaneously working on six other jobs), they don't consult with the homeowner often enough because they are in such a rush, they use the wrong materials, or their craftsmanship is sub-par. Jason's team convinced me that it IS possible to have a very positive experience with a contractor! While painting the entire exterior of our home as well as part of the interior, the team communicated with us every step of the way, worked all day every day, used the appropriate type of paint for each area (including special areas such as the porch), and were always polite, neat, and friendly. Jason was very patient with us in choosing the colors, and we couldn't be happier with the results. His prices were fair and reasonable. They were not the lowest price out there, in part because Jason carries workers' comp insurance for his workers. If you have ever seen a painter working on the roof line of a two-story house, you'll know that having insurance protection in case of an accident is very important. Contractors are required to carry insurance for their employees, but many (if not most) of them don't; they tell the licensing board that they don't have any employees, which is not true. Personally, I don't care to work with a dishonest contractor. In addition to painting the house, Jason referred us to a great guy who fixed some areas of dry rot on the house. We liked him so much that we asked him to repair our deck while he was here. Also, one day when it was raining and the painters couldn't paint, they offered to pressure wash our deck for a reasonable price and did a great job on it.
