The doctor comes in and tells me several (4) to be exact are infected in my gums and they want to set up a consultation to go ever a plan and costs. 2nd time I come in, I wait forever and get put in a procedure room and wait over 40 minutes when they finally tell me she is with an emergency appointment. OK. So today, my 3rd appointment and 2nd time trying to see doctor, I sit in a room with 5 others who get taken back. By 2:23pm i go to head desk, when my appointment was 2pm and have confirmed via text. Finally put in a procedure room with extreme pain of 2 of the previously infected teeth (that they did not want to give me antibiotics for until they scheduled a procedure) so "yes" now in extreme pain with swelling and ready to lance it myself and still waiting. I am so beyond stressed that I finally walk out at 2:40pm (40 minutes my 2nd time, when this is coming from my own pocket). Truly dismissive of someone in need and was putting trust in them. Did I slide through cracks....Hell yes...be cautious...this is absolutely worst experience of someone in desperate, painful need that had 2 appointments with complete dismissive reactions. The staff in this office are so friendly and accommodating. My daughter needed a cleaning. They found that she needed a root canal during her cleaning. After the cleaning, the tooth started bothering her and she was in pain. I called the office and they squeezed us in last minute to alleviate the pain. I was very thankful that I didn't have to go through the holiday with her in pain. They really care about their patients and their experiences. I started invisalign with Dr. Full, and the experience with her was great. She was punctual, kind, and communicated well. Halfway through, she went on maternity leave, and Dr. Parr took over care and it's been a nightmare since. He is rude, always in a rush, always late (which is crazy considering how much of a rush he is always in), and very combative and dismissive. I went in today for my next round of trays, with two missing buttons I was hoping to get put back on for the trays. Instead of adding the buttons and giving me my trays, he shaved off the buttons and said that we were "done". He didn't communicate with me what he was doing, and why, prior to button removal. He just took off the buttons, left the room, and left the poor assistant to deal with my confusion and questions. After I left, I called the office to talk to an office manager about the ordeal. Of course, that person was, unfortunately, Dr. Parr. I told him what bothered me regarding the appointment, and he became combative and aggressive with me on the phone. He was interrupting and refused to listen to what I had to say, and why I was so upset with how the appointment went. He just kept repeating that I was not "compliant" (I had to cancel a couple appointments recently because of my job in midwifery). Regardless, I was compliant with the trays, and it should not have been a big deal to miss a couple appointments when I am continuing to wear the trays as I was advised to. He also said some buttons were missing and that is why my last round of trays didn't track, as if it was MY fault the buttons continue to fall off. I can't tell you how many times I had to go in there to get buttons put back on because they didn't put them on right the first time. Right at the start of the appt, he asked me how it was going with the trays, and I said "Good, but I am so ready for it to be over" and he twisted this and said that I told him I was "done with them" later on when I talked to him on the phone), which is complete bullshit. Overall, my experience with him has been horrible. I had no issues when I was in the care of Dr. Full. If you are going to use Surf City Dental, I would avoid Dr. Parr at all costs. read more

Ok, so I've already written a review for this place. All things aside I gave this business a second chance and made an appointment despite their receptionist who was unhelpful. I was given a no cost consultation, to which I was satisfied. Because as everyone knows you're only allowed four visits into a dental office per year (might have been only two, not sure) before it becomes OOP. I really needed to find a good dentist out here in the middle of nowhere, North Carolina. I received a reminder text of my appointment the day of because I had made my appointment the day before. I show up about 10 minutes early. Enough time to fill out paperwork before I spoke to a dental technician or a dentist. I walked in and was surprised to see two people at the desk, it had always been the unhelpful receptionist. Also please note, there was not one person of color in their office aside from myself, which always makes me feel uneasy, like I'm in a horror film. (Bust out the popcorn) Well, the office manager was the one to greet me and check me in to my appointment. She oddly explained how to fill out the self explanatory forms in a detailed manner, as if to make sure I knew what I was filling out (based on lack of education?). Anywho, I explained I didn't want to fill out the insurance portion because I wanted to see what the technician or dentist was willing to do to fix my crown. When I had filled out the sheets about 90% of the way, the manager asked if I was done. I replied yes, and she escorted me to where the dental offices were. But somehow I was sent to her office. I felt like I was a child who was sent to the principals office for speaking back to a teacher. I kid you not, she went on to ask if I had any questions for her "at this time". My mind was thinking, are people here not used to brown people asking questions? If I speak too loudly will I be escorted out by cops? Are they going to arrest me? Seriously that's how it felt in her office. She assured me it was only to clarify any questions I had. I then asked "about dentistry"? Are you a dental technician or a dentist? She said no, we just wanted to get everything clear about what our receptionist is capable of. I let her know, had her receptionist offered me a solution to my questions such as a no cost consultation, or let me know that everyone within the military network of dentistry offers the exact same prices, I would have had better information. So instead of having a dental appointment where I spoke to a dentist, I had an appointment with the office manager and was reprimanded (or what felt like being reprimanded). Needless to say I left their office after this horrible experience. I guess it was my fault for wanting some kind of help in this ridiculous county, or at this ridiculous office. Save your time and effort and stay away from this office. read more

If I could give no stars I would. In fact if I could take away stars I'd be happy. I paid OOP for years at this office. I finally got good insurance starting Jan 2022 put it on file at my apt in feb and had an ins specialist come and explain what would be covered and what would not. We were in agreement on a treatment plan that would be covered for the year. I got a bill for my cleaning a few months later for over $100 me being me I just paid it and said I'd ask questions later. My mistake. When I called the receptionist had no clue and said the manager was out of office and would call me back tmmr. Well that call never came I called multiple times demanding answers. Finally someone called me back and we were in agreement I was billed wrong. Which is why it was a partial payment t I owed not the whole thing for the visit. They said they would bill correctly and there would be a credit on my account for the amount I paid. I show up for my cleaning a few months later and ask if my credit is showing and they said no I don't have a credit. After my visit they send someone in to talk to me because wanted to know why that credit wasn't there. When I explained everything they said they would look into it and have a manager call me once again she was out of office. Days go by I call every day with no answers. Finally I get a call back and she says my insurance was out of network the whole time. And how does that make sense if I only owed partial payment for the first cleaning I had because they billed wrong?! I WAS FUMING! She then said I owed for the cleaning I had and I I lost it on her. This was one whole year that multiple people explained what my insurance would cover to me here and NOW you're telling me you never accepted it?! Someone in this office if not all have NO CLUE what they're doing and this is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. You won't get a damn dime from me again. And good luck ever getting that money from that visit. Disgusting. Learn how to run a business. I worked in medical ins for years and I can promise I knew what we accepted ins wise and what we did not. And you can always see balances when checking in/out. On any system. Like everyone I think, I don't much like dentists. Unfortunately my teeth have always required more than their share of attention. But Surf City Dental makes that experience much less painful than it might be. Everyone in the office from reception to billing to hygienists to assistants and Dr. Parr are really nice and informed and helpful. This most recent visit was to develop a treatment plan for a tooth that is breaking down completely. Dr. Parr, on an urgently scheduled appointment, took all the time needed to evaluate and explain the various options and then decide which made the best sense, considering all my individual factors. While I'm not looking forward to what will be a difficult procedure, I know I am in good hands. I also find their pricing to be very fair - and hey, who doesn't like to watch surfing videos in the waiting room? Their office is lovely and if you're looking for a dentist in the Surf City area, you can't go wrong with Surf City Dental. read more

For the second time we were highly pleased to receive outstanding dental care at Surf City Dental. Previously, my husband had a cavity filled. This time, I broke a front tooth off and Dr. Matthew Parr did a fantastic job of getting my smile back. We had to return home to West Virginia within a couple of days and Surf City Dental expedited my case so I was ready to return to work when we got home. From the initial phone call, through the initial office reception, to the professional dentistry Surf City Dental was wonderful. Ruby, Danielle, Amanda, and Jennifer are extremely friendly and helpful. We might even make the drive back for future dental care. read more

I am extremely upset with the outcome and poor office planning that took place with my root canal and temporary crown. I had only been to the office once prior for a dental cleaning, the office was clean and the greeting/scheduling staff seemed nice. My hygienist that cleaned my teeth spent the entire time complaining out not being in her regular room and how it made her uncomfortable. My son had a cleaning at the same time (age 4) so I asked her a general question "when do children normally start losing their teeth"? She first answered 12-18months and I asked her if she understood my question. I said it again and she said "between 8-10 years old, no wait, let me ask someone who knows". I began to feel very uncomfortable. That day when the dentist came to see me we agreed that I needed a root canal on one of my molars. We scheduled it and I went in on Wednesday for the procedure. During the procedure the dentist was very nice, however every time he left the room and his dental assistant was working in my mouth another associate would come in and distract her with small talk. The dentist did not set the temporary crown (the dental assistant did) and I was reassured everything went well and to call if I had any problems. I left the office with prescriptions and went home to rest. The next morning I could barely open my mouth and I was in a tremendous amount of pain, my face was noticeably swollen so I called the office and I was told to "double up on pain medication, use a heating pad on my face and to call back if I did not feel better". I called back the next day and advised the medication increase and heat was making me feel better so I would not be "doubling up on pain medication any further" because I am still very uncomfortable but it's no longer unbearable. That evening I took Tylenol and went to bed, woke up the next morning back in the original situation - facial swelling and it felt like I had razor blades in my gum line and I could feel suction of the tooth going deeper into my gum when I chewed. I called the office and and advised the assistant of my situation and that I was down to two pain pills after doubling up and that I was getting very concerned because I now knew Tylenol could not treat the discomfort. I was advised that the dentist had left for a conference in Chicago and wouldn't be back until Tuesday, I could try to take the cap off myself, no one in the office could numb me or prescribe medication, that they had no back up or emergency dentist and if "I think it's that bad go to the ER". So I went to camp Lejeunes emergency room. They advised me that they could see that my gums were very inflamed but they do not have dentists on site and that they would recommend me contacting an emergency dentist. I was so overwhelmed that I went to my neighbor whose a hygienist she looked at my tooth, was very concerned and reached out to our close friends husband whose a naval dentist on Saturday morning. We went to his home and had him remove the crown in his living room in front of his one year old and family. When he removed the temp he said there were multiple reasons for my discomfort, it looked like the clamp that was put around my tooth was wedged into my gum lining, there was a sharp pointy piece of the crown wedged into my gum, and there was cement in between the contact of the two teeth so I couldn't floss to clean the food that was wedged inside. I will be calling Monday to cancel my payment arrangement for the crown and finding a new dentist office - I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of planning, care and empathy for patients provided while the dentist was out of office. read more

I am a terrible patient when it comes to dentists. Have had many bad experiences. Surf City Dental is great. I had 3 teeth extracted and at no time felt pain or discomfort. The staff is friendly and understanding. Dr. Parr was great and explained the options very clearly. I need more work done later and will not hesitate to return. read more

The Dental Practice is nothing short of amazing. When you first arrive, you are greeted with a beautiful facility. The design immediately puts you at ease and is a comfortable setting to wait for your appointment. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. After meeting Dr. Full, Chandler and Brooke, I knew I had found the right practice. Everyone was so nice and obviously took pride in their work. I cannot begin to say enough good things about Dr. Full. I do not respond well to Novocain, and previous dentists have had problems numbing my mouth. Dr. Full took such care to make sure I was comfortable and experienced as little pain as possible. She explained every aspect of the procedure and spent time answering all my questions. I have already recommended this practice to family members and would highly recommend Dr. Full to anyone looking for quality care from a sincerely professional and kind doctor. read more

Initially, this practice as a "life saver". Over Thanksgiving, I had a tooth chip and was in a lot of pain. I called and they were able to see me that day and take care of the problem. I was overjoyed by the help and their ability to work me in so quickly. They became my regular dentist and all was good until they canceled their contract with my insurance company and didn't bother to notify me. I received an electronic invoice for nearly $300 for a routine check-up and cleaning for my wife. When I called, the receptionist couldn't answer any of my questions and said the office manager would have to call me back. She said she arrived at 11 am and would call me shortly afterward. Fast forward 2 days - no call. I called back (after 11 am) 2 days later and was connected to her. When I questioned why the bill was so high for routine cleaning she stated that they no longer were affiliated with my carrier but that there were notices sent out and signage in the office - WTH?? I asked when they canceled the agreement and was told "some time mid-year". She said I would have to call my insurance provider for specifics. I called them only to be told that SCD had canceled their agreement Jan1 (which isn't mid-year). I called her back and let her know that while the dentists were really good, my family wouldn't be coming back and to cancel any appointments scheduled. My question is simple - when my wife checked in for her appointment and the receptionist checked the computer - why wasn't she told that the relationship with the carrier had been canceled and the procedure would be OOP? Seems simple enough if you're paying attention... My advice to anyone thinking about going to this practice would be to ask questions and if you're not 100% satisfied with the answers - leave. I don't, as a rule, leave reviews but this entire situation was ridiculous and easily preventable had the front desk girl been paying attention. read more

Surf City Dental as a practice along with Dr. Parr and all of the staff have always provided consistently good service and dental care. The office is really great and creates almost a "spa" atmosphere. I never have to wait more than a few minutes after arriving and I also like the use of the latest techniques and technology.
