Surf Mall has a quirky, beachy charm and offers some truly unique surf gear and souvenirs. The O2 bar is an interesting touch if you're into novelty experiences. That said, much of the merchandise is overpriced, even by tourist-area standards. The layout can be confusing;figuring out which register to pay at for different items feels like a scavenger hunt. Plus, the place is pretty overstimulating with loud music, flashing lights, and a lot going on all at once. Worth a quick browse if you're in the area, but be prepared for sensory overload and some sticker shock. read more

A teen's dream & fun place to shop - from the "naughty" stuff in the back to the rock posters & oxygen bar in the middle. The front "smacks!" you with Hawaiian shaved ice, a caricature artist, and a plethera of costume jewelry! Trends out the wazzoo! Wait until my 15 year-old daughter sees all of the 'Overwatch' stuff! I'm a big kid and bought myself a (another . . . ) Minion POP! Only $10. They had other adorable and unique ones too, that I hadn't seen before. There are several good quality tees, hoodies & sweatshirts. Also big "hippie" type throws, incense, etc. (Some of the shot glasses are really dirty - damn!) The big posters are nicely priced. My favorite artist of ALL TIME's was only $12. The nice thing is that there are plenty of other affordable items here as well. Just be prepared for major crowding during peak hours!!! read more

Calling this place overpriced is not fair given the inflated cost for most items on the boardwalk, but there is a somewhat reasonable amount of price hike expected and then there is the completely and utterly ridiculous and unreasonable. One area within the surf mall that is unreasonable is the collector card and memorabilia section. A large portion of the items are overpriced even by Ocean City standards. Although, I have been in the hobby long enough to know that the slabbed (graded) 1986 Michael Jordan Rookie card they are selling for $10,000 (firm) only has a real market value of $5,000-6,000 given its grade. This is just one example of many. Just double check what you are looking at before you purchase it. read more

The absolute WORST!! If you have kids tell them to run and NEVER shop there. They accuse innocent people of shoplifting when all they are doing is shopping. Heard the same from so many people. SHOPPERS BEWARE: if you're looking for a leisurely shopping experience on the boardwalk look elsewhere. Recently my nephew was shopping along with two friends for a necklace. He found one that he liked and carried it in his hands as he continued to shop. After deciding not to purchase the item he returned it to its proper place. He was then verbally assaulted by a worker who accused him of the "intention to shoplift". When police arrived he asked them to check cctv. They did and it corroborated his story but his accuser insisted on pressing charges and he was led out in handcuffs and booked. He had to hire an attorney at some cost and fight the charges. After some investigating it has come to light that his experience is the norm for this mall. So many people with similar experiences. Save yourselves the trouble and stay away!!! read more

As I walked in there I was not greeted whatsoever which I wouldn't expect out of like a boardwalk store you know. But something I would not expect out of a place is complete utter disrespect. It's simply unbearable how much disrespect goes on here. It feels like it's a bunch of elitists is trying to get ahead. As Ocean City being the best family resort I feel that this is completely unbearable. This place is over zealous in accusing customers of shoplifting. The store is confusing, not staffed appropriately, and does not make it obvious where to pay, therefore if you move from one section to another with merchandise you are likely to be accused of shoplifting. Worse, you may not be allowed to pay for this merchandise and instead may be arrested, which happened to a family member this summer. When this family member went to court there were 20 other defendants in the same session all accused of shoplifting at the Surf Mall. Perhaps the problem isn't with the patrons but rather the store itself. read more

so i was leaving the boardwalk when i check for my phone and it was not there. i then start retracing my steps when my final hope was the surf mall. so im running into the store and i ask the worker if they seen my phone... they did. apparently the guy found and was waiting for someone to call my phone but it was dead so he put it on the charger and waited 30 mins. in total the service was amazing and huge thanks to the guy who found my phone! They accuse paying customers of shoplifting when they are simply browsing and after they have made actual purchases. I can not believe business owners would treat their customers this way. We went into the oxygen bar thinking that we would try it.. it turned out to be one of the biggest scams- the machine didn't work properly, and when one of my friends left behind the nose tube- Jackson, an employee, came up behind us in the store and started screaming "GET THE F*** OUT, GET YOUR TRASH AND GET THE F*** OUT". It was a terrible experience and in no situation should the employee EVER yell, let alone curse out a customer. Avoid this location at all costs. read more

I loved this place when I was a kid and it's definitely changed. I feel like as a child walking through here there was the old time photos that was absolutely mesmerizing, and it felt a lot bigger. As an adult, I guess things just look smaller. My kids thought it was awesome in here. They loved the poster walls, and all of the fireworks and especially the collectors toys in the one area. Still a cool spot to go especially if it's raining. I will say it felt like there was no air conditioner at all. It was pretty humid Inside. read more

I used to come here everytime I visited ocean city as a child, i loved the atmosphere and the different booths. But my latest experience at the surf mall has changed my outlook and has soured my impression of this side of the boardwalk. I walk in with some friends and we casually make our way around the store before splitting up to look at what peeked our different interests. Note: the whole time I was being stared down by employees (but I'm used to it being a person of color and the racial stereotypes associated with my darker skin tone) I should not have ignored such a bright red flag. As I look at some bracelets, I see one I thought my friend would like and held it behind my back to suprise her. On my way over , and employee stopped me and accused me of trying to shoplift. I told him what I was doing and he replied in a very aggressive and angry tone "Shut the fuck up, and let me speak" at this point I'm in shock, as other people start to look at me. This employee then says "I've seen too many people like you attempt to do what you're trying and I'm sick of it" His words are still burned into my mind as he started getting into my face about calling the cops while other employees gathered around him. Unfortunately I knew that it would be their word against mine to cops and I didn't need an arrest warrant at 18 so I offered to buy the bracelet. The employee charged me $15 for the $9 bracelet with plastic beads on a thin piece of Elastic. I didn't want the bracelet but I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, so I didn't care. I'm now stuck with this horrible memory burnt into my brain and a bracelet souvenir of how I was racially profiled and wrongfully accused of theft. The one positive thing I have gotten from this experience was an A+ on my racial injustice paper for school, in which I wrote about my experience. read more

Me and my boyfriend were wrongly accused of stealing a bracelet that I got a couple stores down. One of the workers told us to get the f*** out before even looking at the cameras to see that we walked in with it on my ankle. After a while of trying to get them to watch it they finally let us go without even looking at the cameras that would clearly show us walking in with it. It was embarrassing for us to have all the customers around us think we were stupid enough to steal a cheap bracelet, and it was also unprofessional to have a worker curse at us for something we didn't do. read more

Before I left the store my friend was accused of stealing a ring from the stand I had bought my bracelet from. He continuously threatened to call the cops on us and refused to let us pay for the ring we didn't steal. My friend emptied her pockets and all of her bags and they still wouldn't let us go. We tore apart the whole stand apart to look for it. Finally, after I called my dad and told my friend he was on the way, they agreed to let us pay and let us go. read more

I have been coming to Ocean City since I was a kid, this place was always a hot spot. Now that I'm 28 years old, I figured I would go in Surf Mall and check it out. I was followed around by the staff, non-stop, from the moment I walked in the door, to the moment I left. They were hawks, like I was going to steal something. I went into the black light room, to look at posters, and the girl had the nerve to say to me, "If you're looking for air conditioner, this isn't the place. You've been in here for awhile." when I was literally only in there for 5 minutes, LOOKING AT THE BLACKLIGHT POSTERS. I then asked, "oh people come in here for air conditioning?" Her response was, "Yeah the kids come in here and they think they can cool off." And I responded with, "I'm 28 years old, I was looking at the posters.. definitely not what I was trying to do at all.." and kept looking. Now I don't look like a kid. Maybe I look 23-24, but not like a punk kid who's trying to keep out of the heat. Then there was a cute anklet I was looking at, and the moment I touched it, a worker came up to me and said, "Do you want me to put that behind the counter for you?" At that point, I was annoyed and really shouldn't have bought anything, but they did have some cool posters and the anklet, so I just bought what I wanted and left. I will never again purchase from this place, as I think that it's RIDICULOUS that I'm a 28 year old woman, who works a full-time day job, and while there's little kids and teenagers who were running around the place, probably stealing Pokémon cards and other silly pointless things, they were hawking me. They were watching me. Surf Mall, your store is cool and has some really neat stuff, but your employees suck and I came this close to not spending my money there that day, and never will again. read more

I used to buy a lot from the surf mall, but my 2 experiences this season really changed my view. A few days ago I had bought a sweatshirt from one of the "stores" and before buying, I walked to a different "store" within the surf mall to show my mom. One of the young (no older than 18) workers there proceeded to aggressively let me know that walking around with items, even with it still on the hanger, is strictly prohibited. Yea i get it, but the attitude won't take you anywhere in customer service. Yesterday, my family and I decided to return since we were popping into a lot of the stores on the boardwalk. We did not buy anything, but my sister was carrying the sweatshirt I purchased previously a few days prior. We made our way out of the store and 2 minutes later a middle-aged man approached my sister and I kid you not tried to rip the sweatshirt out of my sister's hand (she's 13 years old). He accused her of stealing the sweatshirt claiming that one of *his* workers told him so, yet didn't care to address the concern with my parents walking right next to her. If you ask me, this is extremely unprofessional... ripping a purchased item of clothing out of my sister's hand is absolutely pathetic. This man has no place in customer service and the entirety of the staff working there should pick up a few lessons in customer service as well. Being a resident of Ocean City, there is no doubt I will be passing this message along and will not be returning in the future. read more

I was at the Surf Mall on 08/27/15 at around 7 p.m. The girl that works the counter that sells cell phone cases was extremely rude. I was looking at some stereo speakers on the counter and she blasted it my ear from a control on the other side of the counter. I thought I accidentally turned it on and quickly turned it off only to get yelled at. Why she decided to turn it on while I was standing there is beyond me. I guess that is what she considers fun. I am sure the owner thinks otherwise! You don't disrespect adults who are there to possibly spend money. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I don't know why the heck the surf mall doesn't have more reviews! This place is a legend. I've been going there absolutely my entire life. Some of their shops have changed and so has some of the merchandise. But it's still awesome! Right when you walk in there's quite a few different Merchant selling some pretty cool jewelry some of what you not even going to find on eBay. If you have unusual piercing locations they have what you're looking for. There's all sorts of handbags shirts , Beach wear , custom stuff , there's an oxygen bar, surf stuff, smoking accessories, Collectibles and action figures and trading cards in an amazing selection of posters... ! They really do have everything. Lots of bad stuff lots of Throwbacks. I have to be honest it's not as cool as it was when I was younger but I figure that's because now it's super cold to kids that are younger than me now. If you like Boardwalk stuff and you go into most of the stores to see what they have I would say save your money and wait until you get here because it's cooler and cheaper. read more
