The wait can be infuriating on a weekend evening. When the food is good, it is really good, but sometimes on a busy night it comes out and the chicken is over cooked, the cheese is not totally melted, and you just waited 45 minutes for mediocre Mexican fast food. Listen I was born and raised in San Diego so I know mexican food. This place really deserves a 3.5. Their burritos are huge and pretty good. I Really love their bowls because they use real fresh food. But its thier own style. They aren't trying to be southern CA style, they are just NJ Beach style. I mean the bowls had grilled pepper and onions in it, which I will order without next time. Their salsa bar is ok, which they had a hotter sauce. My Cousin LOVED their fried Calamari. I do wish they were more Gluten Free Friendly. This is Not CALI style people, its very good for the area. Great tacos. My favorite is the Chicken Tender Taco. I've never had a bad meal here. Service can get slow, but nothing terrible. I'm not giving this location a fifth star because of bad parking. read more

Surf Taco is awesome. Great taco place with some really great options. I would recommend the tacos with the fried cod and making it Baja style. Their sauce bar is also really good. the baja sauce is the best in my opinion. Orders usually take about 10 min to make so if you are taking out i would definitely recommend to call in advance. I always go for the buffalo soldier - it has never steered me wrong! The atmosphere is fun, not really authentic jersey shore - more like Cali/Hawaii surf shack. Regardless, I always make a point to come here when I stay in Manasquan. My local friends were never keen on coming here for some reason, but I never saw why. The salsa bar is delicious. read more

I LOVE Surf Taco. I've been a customer of Surf Taco for years and the one in Manasquan is by far my favorite. The food is amazing - always fresh and delicious. There are lot of healthy options so I can feel good about whatever I'm eating. My favorite items: Maverick Chicken Burrito, no rice, no sour cream and the Aloha wrap with avocado. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. I love being able to sit outside in the summer and the beautiful flowers definitely add to the outdoor area. I eat at Surf Taco at least once a week and am always completely satisfied. It's the best!!!! read more

Surf Taco is a great example of how good food doesn't need to be expensive. If I lived closer, I would eat here every day. Really. There are certain foods I will go on crusades for, such as barbecue, breakfast tacos (it's an Austin thing), and fish tacos. My favorite? Baja style Surf Tacos. Why mess with perfection? They need to work on their quality control, otherwise this place is great. The menu is creative, delicious and fun and has a ton of options. This particular location is BYOB and right next to a liquor store so that's a big plus! read more

Visited this place for lunch during training. Delicious!! Get there early or you'll be in the mix of a BUSY lunch. The service was quick and the chips were fresh. Had the buffalo calamari and a shrimp taco. Returned for lunch on the following day. Chips weren't as fresh but tacos were on the money. read more

I order the grilled Mahi tacos. And you should too. They have an interesting taste (with chunks of pineapple included) and come on a soft white taco bed. The fish has always tasted fresh, and the slices of avocado in addition to the blackening combine for good eats. Surf Taco offers various home-made hot sauces and salsas, as well as a wonderful soda machine that stocks non-traditional flavors (I can't get enough of Coke Lime). Service is huge bummer and I ended up getting a Cali wrap to-go. The wrap wasn't wrapped up in foil all the way letting it fall and soak the entire bottom of the bag and 90% of the wrap itself was lettuce. extremely disappointed and probably wouldn't come this location again. read more

Every time I have eaten here I call ahead and order because it does take long to get your food. However, once you have the food it is easy to enjoy. Unlike some of the other reviewers I do like the tacos. I have gotten the fish tacos, the mahi mahi tacos, and the chicken tacos. They are all simple but good. They also have a delicious chicken bowl that has grilled peppers and onions in it (forget what it's called though). Their burritos are good also! The only entree I wouldn't recommend ordering is the nachos... they barely give you any cheese, which is the best part of nachos to begin with. Love coming to this small surf taco at the end of the road. The best thing to do is park, order your garlic shrimp burrito and then go walk over to the liquor store and grab yourself a nice IPA. This is the true surf taco experience. read more

When I worked closer to Surf Taco I would frequent the restaurant 3-4 times a week for lunch. The first few times I had it I wasn't really impressed and didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Now I could swear they put crack in the food because I'm hooked! The food is always very fresh. The flat screen tv's, music, and decor make for a great ambiance. Myself and four others visited surf taco for dinner and were all very disappointed. Everything we ordered was flavorless and disgusting. The food looks like it would be delisiouse, however it was bland and not worth eating. There was a lack of seasoning overall and everything was very wet. The shrimp tasted like bland boiled cabbage and the ground beef was..... Well not ground beef. We were all so very disappointed with our meals and would not return. It's a shame too that when we were asked by an employee clearing tables how everything was ( and we told her it was not good) she said and I quote " yeah Taco Bell is much better" I'm sorry,with places like choipoltle out there I am not sure how surf taco has any business at all except for the fact that they have locations where there is no other option. I ordered a cod taco salid w/ out the taco. Good choice as I had gastric by pass. This was the first time I was ever here, so I had no idea what to expect. Every thing sounded good. But my batter diped cod was served cold on a bed of cabbage w/ red, onions, avocodo, tomatoes ,black rice and beans under that.The rice and beans were good . I couldn't finish it so I asked the girl at the counter for a container, she then went in the kitchen and I could here her tell the cook about my cold fish, as she placed the left overs in a container. No one ever told me about the salsa bar, or if I could have it w/ my order. I was never offered any compensation for their poor performance. I paid $11.66 including tax. I was the only customer there at the time, about 1:30- 2 pm. read more

After seeing bumper stickers for years I finally had to change to have a surf taco. The surf taco itself was pretty good, though I wasn't impressed by either the mahi or garli shrimp since about 85% of both of them was the cabbage mixture. And like Masud said it was freezing in there even with a jacket on. read more

I'm not quite sure what happened to this place. Maybe they got too big and just aren't able to handle the large staff. I get food from surf taco at least once a week and usually spend at least $50. The recipes are great! Every once in a while I will get a burrito with not-so-great chicken in it... But hey, I understand that happens. So great recipes, decent food, fair prices. Why the 1 star? Wellllllll... They have some major health violations in the Manasquan location. I was in there the other day to pick up a large order and saw the young girl (I guess the cook/manager) playing with her hair and itching her nose and then TOUCH SOMEONES FOOD without gloves! GROSS!! I believe every food establishment should wear gloves when handling food! And then to touch your hair and nose and then touch someone's food? That's inexcusable! Best part is... When the girl saw me watching her she closed the curtain to the kitchen. This basically said to me- yes, we touch your food. Yes, we know it is a health code violation. No, we don't care. No, we aren't going to change. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Plus, the place was a mess, salsa all over the salsa bar, dirty dishes on the counter, etc. My only hope is to go to another surf taco location where maybe there is a different manager. read more

Really solid value at a go to destination in Manasquan. Often stop in for lunch every week and have had nothing but good experiences for past 5 years. The buffalo soldier and taco salad are must try's. read more
